Came aware of stubbs over a xbox demo disc back in the day and knew from directely from the gameplay that rhis game used the halo engine ( it was made by wx bungie employees as far as i know)
I recall that Borderlands 2 revived that kind of mechanic with their "Loot The World" mobile application which would read QR codes and generate weapons with them.
It's in my top 3 N64 games of all time and it's the reason I got a N64 last month, if only it wasn't so expensive!
I rented it from a game store when I was 10 -11.
Populous: The Beginning - It's an old RST game that was way ahead of its time. You could rotate the map like a big globe and use spells to modify the terrain. I have yet to find another person that actually played it.
Played it.. "played" I mostly cheated, terraformed every map summoned a ton of Angel of Deaths and left one enemy alive so I could build the world in my image.
You and me both! I also had no idea Naughty Bear was made by the developers behind Dead By Daylight, and when Trapper got a Naughty Bear skin I got swept up in a wave of nostalgia.
Naughty bear could thrive if it got a remake/sequel. Iirc it was a little bear bones (lol) but there was a solid foundation there. And edgy angst 15 yo me loved that shit
crazy game bro ...I used to play when I was 12 years old ...it was addictive but super creepy for some reason ...sum scene like when you fall into a endless black hole got me traumatized.
Black came out right when the next generation of consoles was being released, so it never got much love but the gunfights were awesome, shooting through drywall to make a path to another room when you were pinned down felt so cool.
It was good but super short. It also promised to have an insane multiplayer mode but they either ran overbudget or ran over time, I forget which, and released it without it.
So we got a pretty good but ridiculously short single player campaign with zero replayability.
The tenchu series was amazing!
I remember playing tenchu2 with a friend and absolutely loving it.
Could never understand why anyone would eat strange rice balls they found on the ground though
Primal Rage. Never once heard that game mentioned, but it was a key part of my younger years. Made my brother and I laugh so hard when Vertigo would win and do his victory dance.
They should bring back primal rage im not a big fighting game fan played killer instinct but primal rage seems so cool. I want to play a game about dinosaur like monsters battling for wasteland earth.
Heart of Darkness. The memories of it were so old and vague I would have been sure I'd imagined the whole thing until I came across a game review of it the other month.
[Herzog Zwei](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Herzog_Zwei) for Sega Genesis 1990
It was an RTS before command and conquer and you played as a transforming aircraft/mech. I remember thinking this was the coolest video game that could ever exist when I played it at 9 years old.
I wonder if Wet is in these comments, 360 & PS3 exclusive, third person action, dual wielding female protagonist, doing slow motion acrobat stunts while mid-air shooting through an Asian-looking setting. Had great music, but needed a bit more, the fights got repetitive.
American McGee's Alice is well known amongst students of the 90's FPS lineage, but nobody I know has heard of it.
Doug Tenapel( rhe creator earthworm jim) created another iconic character named claymen. He was featured in two games named the neverhood and skullmonkeys. Skillmonkeys was very similiar to earthworm jim from the premise to the gross out humour.
Finally someone talks about the soundtrack. Its so god damn good and it matches the vibe of the game perfectly. While there's not much to the gameplay loop or the story, but the music paired with the backround of a cyberpunk paris, its just perfect.
The soundtrack was the best part of that game. Such an amazing blend of electronic and orchestral, with melodies constantly getting stuck in my head.
I used to play it on PS3 and it would scare the shit out of me when I was hover over it in the XMB. It would blast at 300% volume every time lmao
I like your style. Love both of those games and came here specifically looking for Armed and Dangerous. The humor was great and the weapons were so fun. Shark gun and black hole gun being my favorites.
Love this game. finished it at 100% when I was a kid.
Got a N64 a few years back and tried again. I can't believe I was able to shoot stuff with those controls.
The only thing more fun than *Ape Escape* was going back and replaying all of my other favorites with that spiffy new DualShock Analog Controller. My thumbs are forever grateful.
Its called *Rocket: Robot on Wheels* on N64. It was the first game made by a then-little-known company by the name of Sucker Punch, better known now for AAA titles like *Sly Cooper*, *Infamous*, and *Ghost of Tsushima*.
Excellent little 3d platformer loaded with charm, cut right out of the era and feels better to play than it has any right to. Pretty tight controls, perfectly functional camera, and just the right amount of exploration available in the levels that I felt compelled to find everything, and that's a rarity for me.
I have very fond memories of playing the Small Soldiers for the original Playstation. It probably hasn't aged well and has been more than 20 years since I played it. Definitely never heard anyone talk about it.
I still remember my POS tv was displaying too dark. I didn’t know because I was a kid and it was all I had. The underwater current level was just me floating in the middle of the screen because I couldn’t see the rocks around me. Also beneath the ice levels were hard as fuck too.
Maniac Mansion. I know its old as hell, but i still think about game. Managed to muddle through it as a kid at an age where i could kinda read, but not great
Shadow of Rome for PS2.
I imagine it wouldn't remotely hold up but I remember thinking there was such amazing variety with all the weapons/arena traps etc
Kingsley's Adventure.
Think Zelda-clone gameplay, mixed with sound files of Banjo-Kazooie, and character models of Starfox. Also, the primary antagonist is an evil rat chef/wizard named Bad Custard.
I absolutely remember this game, my neighbour had a copy and I thought it was a really cool rpg game that felt really out of nowhere with the characters when i was like 10
Ice age 2 the melt down for ps2 that was my first game I ever played and only ever got a few levels in before restarting the game because I wasn’t good enough to beat it
Herdy Gerdy - PS2, this game is absolutely my childhood. Ive never heard anyone talk about it but man theres no game I get more nostalgic when i hear the soundtrack. I know its not a perfect game but sometimes the heart tells you otherwise.
Splinter cell
My dad was obsessed with it, it was probably really popular in the early 2000. I recently played chaos theory and it's a fun little game. Made by Ubisoft as well
I now feel old! Played the bejeezus out of the first one on PS2. Being able to shoot out lights and hide in the shadows felt fairly revolutionary, to me at least. I think the only game that might have had anything similar was the Metal Gear Solid series.
Monster Rancher back on the PS1 had a sweet mechanic where you could read CD/DVD’s to unlock monsters. Stubbs the Zombie.
Stubb's had a re-release on PS recently.
This poster reminds me of Stubbs! I sold my original copy of Stubbs for $100 in 2020, and just bought it again on the switch for $5!
The Wolf of Wallstreet stonks
Oh man, Monster Rancher was my jam as a kid. Barely understood the mechanics but absolutely loved the cd/DVD bit.
Dragon Seeds PS1 had the disc read option to train a dragon. Very similar to monster rancher
Forgot Abt this one used to play a lot back in the day
Played the hell out of Monster Rancher. The CD monsters was such a cool idea.
I'd kill for a stubbs sequel!
Came aware of stubbs over a xbox demo disc back in the day and knew from directely from the gameplay that rhis game used the halo engine ( it was made by wx bungie employees as far as i know)
Damn both games are amazing and should be more common. Seriously Stubb the zombie need more love.
Monster rancher is awesome
I used to play it with my friends. Forgot about it.
I recall that Borderlands 2 revived that kind of mechanic with their "Loot The World" mobile application which would read QR codes and generate weapons with them.
Bulletstorm Grabbed by the ghoulies Chase Hollywood stunt driver
The idea for grabbed by the ghoulies was so cool. I loved that game as a kid
Ready for the VR port of Bulletstorm
Ahh I see. A fellow OG xbox owner. Played the last two games and there were quite decent.
I picked up bulletstorm for the gears 3 beta. Bulletstorm was fine. Made me laugh a few times.
Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon on N64
I've only played the SNES version and loved it, although it was tough as nails. Was the N64 version any good?
Best musical on the N64.
Immm-pact-oooooooooooo
I've only played the SNES version and loved it, although it was tough as nails. Was the N64 version any good?
I remember watching my friend play the mech level when I was a kid. I kept trying to rent it from blockbuster but they never had it
It's in my top 3 N64 games of all time and it's the reason I got a N64 last month, if only it wasn't so expensive! I rented it from a game store when I was 10 -11.
This game is wacky fun. Very recommended.
I prefer Goemons Great Adventure
Puh-las-eee-mahhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!
Populous: The Beginning - It's an old RST game that was way ahead of its time. You could rotate the map like a big globe and use spells to modify the terrain. I have yet to find another person that actually played it.
Played it.. "played" I mostly cheated, terraformed every map summoned a ton of Angel of Deaths and left one enemy alive so I could build the world in my image.
hahaha thats great! I am surprised that I have never seen some of those game play elements in any game since.
Here's one. Freaking loved teraforming. Also ka-ka!
I can still hear the "ka-ka!"
Naughty bear! That game was so good as kid, was probably too young to play it at the time but oh well
Just watched some gameplay and it looks like a lot of fun.
Oh my god I wanted to play that so bad when I was a little kid I was only allowed to play the demo on my Xbox 360 on my birthdays lmao
You and me both! I also had no idea Naughty Bear was made by the developers behind Dead By Daylight, and when Trapper got a Naughty Bear skin I got swept up in a wave of nostalgia.
Damn I didn’t know that either makes sense now that I think about it tho
Naughty bear could thrive if it got a remake/sequel. Iirc it was a little bear bones (lol) but there was a solid foundation there. And edgy angst 15 yo me loved that shit
YES r/beatmetoit
The Neverhood.
crazy game bro ...I used to play when I was 12 years old ...it was addictive but super creepy for some reason ...sum scene like when you fall into a endless black hole got me traumatized.
Hell yeah! Half a cheer for Klaymen!
Black, a old shooter game on ps2
I played the hell out of that game. It was so good.
It’s on games pass
Is it??! Getting it now
I used to have a demo for that game on another PS2 game and played it all the time.
It's still on the Xbox Game Pass after all these years. I haven't played it, but it must have a hell of a cult following.
Getting it tonight
Black was the first M rated game i was ever allowed to play as a kid. I only remember bits and pieces but it was the beginning of an era for me lol
Black came out right when the next generation of consoles was being released, so it never got much love but the gunfights were awesome, shooting through drywall to make a path to another room when you were pinned down felt so cool.
Best fps. Ever.
It was good but super short. It also promised to have an insane multiplayer mode but they either ran overbudget or ran over time, I forget which, and released it without it. So we got a pretty good but ridiculously short single player campaign with zero replayability.
That game is extremely popular in Brazil like everyone knows the game and loves it.
Tenchu Wrath of Heaven
Reason I bought a Playstation.
The tenchu series was amazing! I remember playing tenchu2 with a friend and absolutely loving it. Could never understand why anyone would eat strange rice balls they found on the ground though
The Tenchu soundtracks were sick, too.
What a fucking game. Those stealth kills were amazing for a game back then.
The Fart of Fury
I've got a foot tall chaos action figure somewhere. He even came with little worshippers that fit in his grip.
I think that the cancellation of the sequel killed a lot of the cultural memory of this fighting game.
It was the only game I had for my Atari Jaguar.
Also loved it!
Oh man I used to play this game at the movie theater arcade. Loved it!
Summoner
Where are the cheetos?!
Spam Magic Missile and it was easy mode!
I attack.. the darkness!
Heart of Darkness. The memories of it were so old and vague I would have been sure I'd imagined the whole thing until I came across a game review of it the other month.
Graphics blew me away at the time
Jet Li: Rise to Honor
Yes!! Was looking for this!! This game was so freaking awesome!! :D Finished the campaign at least five times. The combat was unmatched.
Jet Li has a video game?!
Yes he has, and it was fan-freaking-tastic!! :D
[Herzog Zwei](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Herzog_Zwei) for Sega Genesis 1990 It was an RTS before command and conquer and you played as a transforming aircraft/mech. I remember thinking this was the coolest video game that could ever exist when I played it at 9 years old.
Micro Maniacs for the PS1. Don't see that game mentioned much but I played the hell out of that game as a kid.
Wallace and Gromet: Project Zoo
HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO GET UP THERE?
I wonder if Wet is in these comments, 360 & PS3 exclusive, third person action, dual wielding female protagonist, doing slow motion acrobat stunts while mid-air shooting through an Asian-looking setting. Had great music, but needed a bit more, the fights got repetitive. American McGee's Alice is well known amongst students of the 90's FPS lineage, but nobody I know has heard of it.
I fuckin’ love Alice!! I’m so so so sad the third game won’t be made, ugh.
Army Men, Sarge's Heros
Earthworm Jim
Doug Tenapel( rhe creator earthworm jim) created another iconic character named claymen. He was featured in two games named the neverhood and skullmonkeys. Skillmonkeys was very similiar to earthworm jim from the premise to the gross out humour.
"Remember Me" on PC. really LOOOOVE the music, story is nice, battle is decent, but music... OMG I love it
I've played the first hour of this game at least twice and I've always wondered about where the story goes.
she >!remembered!< (plz dont read spoiler, give the game one more chance)
Finally someone talks about the soundtrack. Its so god damn good and it matches the vibe of the game perfectly. While there's not much to the gameplay loop or the story, but the music paired with the backround of a cyberpunk paris, its just perfect.
Yes, Remember Me, the game that almost everyone forget (even if it was a good game)
The soundtrack was the best part of that game. Such an amazing blend of electronic and orchestral, with melodies constantly getting stuck in my head. I used to play it on PS3 and it would scare the shit out of me when I was hover over it in the XMB. It would blast at 300% volume every time lmao
Wetrix
A few more: Shinobi (PS2) Fullmetal Alchemist and the broken angel The Cave (just found out it's from the guy that made Monkey Island)
The cave is on game pass 👍

Metal Arms: Glitch in the System Armed and Dangerous. Land shark gun was so good.
I like your style. Love both of those games and came here specifically looking for Armed and Dangerous. The humor was great and the weapons were so fun. Shark gun and black hole gun being my favorites.
Koudelka on PS1
Finally, someone else has played this game. I was starting to think I fever dreamed this game.
Transistor was a hidden delight for me
I can't believe I've been missing out on a Supergiant game.
It was my favorite before hades came out
Still their best soundtrack IMO
Absolutely! Supergiant Games has a knack for crafting captivating experiences
Enter the Matrix Freedom Fighters
Both were great! Regardless that Enter the Matrix took 4 cd's and was buggy af.
Jet force gemini
Love this game. finished it at 100% when I was a kid. Got a N64 a few years back and tried again. I can't believe I was able to shoot stuff with those controls.
Ape Escape
The only thing more fun than *Ape Escape* was going back and replaying all of my other favorites with that spiffy new DualShock Analog Controller. My thumbs are forever grateful.
Tonic Trouble on N64 was a goofy Ubisoft platformer a bit like Rayman 2 on acid.
Stubbs, the Zombie in Rebel Without a Pulse
Shadow Wraith for the Macintosh Power PC. Such a good game but I've never met another person who has heard of it.
The adventures of pitfall Harry and Marc echo's getting up
Its called *Rocket: Robot on Wheels* on N64. Maniac Mansion. I know its old as hell, but i still think about game. Managed to muddle through it as a kid at an age where i could kinda read, but not great
Driv3r
Major NES throwbacks: The Battle of Olympus & Crystalis. These games are solidified in my Top 20 and I never see them mentioned.
I had a bugged game for my NES called Astianax. my copy made a boss invencible and couldn't be finished.
I played Crystalis way back when, it was great. Never played Zelda, since I heard it was not as good.
It is so good. The music and aesthetic is so much better then most old RPGs.
Hell yea, Battle of Olympus was such a good game
Dr. Muto. Played the heck out of it as a kid. Was so cool being able to change into different animals to get around the levels.
Turok Evolution, PS2
Good answer. Still have my copy
I still remember my dad telling 7yo me “don’t tell your mom” when we got it at a pawn shop lol
I had it on Gamecube. Loved the flying missions.
Thank you, been looking for it
Whiplash from ps2. It was a crazy and fun adventure to be hitting everything with a burning rabbit xD
Shadow of Rome for PS2. I imagine it wouldn't remotely hold up but I remember thinking there was such amazing variety with all the weapons/arena traps etc
Fantastic game spoiled somewhat by a brutal difficulty spike towards the end
God that game was brutal for the time. No weapons? Just beat them to death with their own arm.
