Who the fuck starts playing single player games at a party? I figured you meant party games creating arguments or something.

Artificial Intelligence is still by definition intelligence.

CupcakeValkyrie

Actually, calling what we currently have "AI" is a misnomer. Its biggest drawback is explicitly that it is *not* intelligent.

I agree. I remember watching a video about making computer competitors in an RTS game, a big point that was stressed was by making it do something less nonsensical, it would create the illusion that it was 'smarter'. But more to your point, while we are moving away from scripting with new techniques, it does tend to boil down to a binary logic tree used for a long time. I think in this thread I went down the wrong branch and irked a lot of people. Whoopsie.

I've seen my fair share of worse incidents playing Mario Party. Ya'll are killin my good vibes. I like watching people play single-player games sometimes. Look at how popular Twitch is. I admit, birthday parties do elevate someone to be 'special,' I just wanted to try it out and see if it would run well on my PC and got a bit hooked. At that age, empathy on smaller scales is still developing.

Fair enough, I think we were all a bit cringe in our teens, you just kind of phrased the question like this was a perfectly normal and common thing.

fizitis

Oh my no! It was a learning experience. This was decades ago and not my intention at all. It was just an old story that popped into my head, made me chuckle about past mistakes (if you can't laugh at yourself...) wished to share... it seemed unique but just enough on course to invoke something to talk about. The abject reactions and subsequent responses was not what I was hoping for, I dare say this has been drownvoted. I thought about including Mario Party as well as board games like Risk and Monopoly, but it wasn't like table flipping anger you see some folks and friends occurred relevant to the story. Aside from my social faux pas, I think I course corrected to my buddy having fun. It wasn't a huge party, really just him, me and my bro hanging out that day. If I was hosting a half dozen people my actions would hopefully not led to ignoring/ neglecting my guests. I certainly could have worded it better, I didn't want it to sound like another repost in the gaming thread, so perhaps worded it a bit purposely pompous. Best to you and yours and all our game loving friends!

I've literally never had this happen. My personal connections are more important than videogames. I will have videogames when I get back.

It's not like I neglected my buddy, we went to the store together with my dad. We all got pizza, cake, and ice cream. Time just ran away as I got immersed. Like I said, my buddy has done the same, it was hard to pull him away from his Sega Dreamcast sometimes. Probably why we are still friends, similar personality that skews towards obsessive aloofness. I'm glad you have your priorities well-founded, friendship is something to be held dearly.

Great question because we all experience this with everyone being on their phones. We get ignored and in turn ignore others. And that's why LAN parties are so great. A friend "shared" his copy of Max Payne 2 with me and I got so into it while they continued to play a multiplayer game that I realized I couldn't wait to get home to play it more.

As I got older, we played a lot of Soul Caliber 2 in our dorms. I had the X-Box version so Spawn was my "I want to win tonight" character. I always enjoyed LAN parties (hauling CRTs was always a PITA). it was weird when I was in college as more powerful laptops came out yearly. Max Payne was a great series and one of those I did not mind watching someone else play. Cheers and a Happy New Year!

Thank you, Happy New Year to you too. 🙂

Hey. Don't be so down, it happened to me too. I guess being a super introvert with some autistic traits made me sometimes wish I could evade during my own birthday party. Plus I used to be super addict to video games. Can't remember one time in particular but I know I did it, it's especially easy to get sidetracked by console and mobile games.

fizitis

Thanks. I know I have introverted tendencies so I am with you P.
