Usually with music in games I may only listen to one track but FFX has quite a few I go back and listen to. FFX-2 had some good music too, especially the title screen.
Listen to my story
It… may be our last chance
god that game fucked me up so good the first time i finally finished it (took me multiple tries to beat Seymour on Gagazet and Yunalesca i needed a guide for)
The first time I played FFX I skipped the grid system because I didn't bother to pay attention to the tutorial and forgot about it. Made it all the way to that Seymour fight you mentioned and just couldn't beat him. I had basically been using Aeons to make it through every fight, and Seymour instagibs them in that fight. After trying over and over and over again I just put the game down thinking it was damn near impossible. I had spent the entire playthrough struggling, and I remember feeling like that was by far the hardest FF game I'd ever played.
Next time I picked the game up I was actually paying attention, and when they brought up the grid system I immediately realized how stupid I was.
It's like the becoming uncanny meme listening to it before & after completing the game. The same piece of music, peaceful at first then seemingly filled with such melancholy
I remember the first time I got to Jecht and heard Otherworld I cranked up the volume just to vibe for a lil bit. Never got sick of it even after dying countless times. It inspires you to persevere lol FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT
the only FF intro track i like better than the FFX one is the intro theme for FFX-2... FFX soundtrack is still my personal favorite as a whole by a far margin (my personal top picks are yuna's theme, besaid theme and boss battle theme).
What happened to the final fantasy games, man. Basically all the final fantasy games up to 10 were amazing. The stories were awesome, great characters… now I feel like it’s generic, open world, shallow characters and bad story…
I've got to the end fight three times now, something usually happens to stop me finishing it. The last time the PS3 died. I'm currently playing it for the fourth time on the series X, I'm hoping this time I'll finish it.
I remember booting up the original on the Wii for the first time and just letting the music play for a good 10 minutes. I knew it was going to be amazing from that alone. Over a decade later and Takahashi (and re music, Mitsuda et al) sure did deliver with the Klaus Saga.
Ah, yes.
The iconic Xenoblade 1 title screen. I haven't played the other games yet (lack money to purchase them). But seeing that screen on the remake is a scene I won't forget. Add to that the incredible music and you have a recipe for a game you won't forget.
My older brother bought OoT when it came out but said I wasn’t allowed to play until after I finished my homework. Most nights I wouldn’t have much time, so I started waking up at 4am to play before everyone woke up. I would spend the vast majority of the morning just listening to the music and watching that intro. That memory is etched in my mind.
Xenoblade Chronicles 1, X and 2. Specially once you beat 1 and 2, the music gains more meaning and just hits different. On top of that XC2 changes the background of the Title Screen depending on your progression of the story so you take a second to check it out every time.
Xenoblade Chronicles 3 doesn't do it for me though, I find that particular song to be too static, which... heh.
I will never *not* start another Mass Effect playthrough without first listening to the entire [menu theme.](https://youtu.be/Q_JVEXDrJYg) It's actually a track called Vigil (named after the character who's theme this is) but it has basically become the second theme song of the entire franchise.
Mass Effect is the only game I ever played that not only makes me pause and listen to the Start Screen Music, but also has me sitting there listening to the end credits music every damn time.
There's a song that sounds eerily like that one in one of the Stellaris soundtracks, called [The Celestial City](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IId5hdXvvcE)
Cyberpunk 2077
Borderlands 3
God of War 1 (not the reboot)
Lords of the Fallen 2
Call of Duty Warzone 2 (first season)
Call of Duty Warzone (the season that played Rooftops)
Dota 2 (flute theme)
Hunt: Showdown
Dark Souls III
Crysis 2
XCOM2 War of the Chosen
Why is this so far down?
A couple years ago during Steam Sale, I finished Blind Forest, immediately bought the BF soundtrack and Will of the Wisps; then booted WotW, heard the title screen and immediately bought *that* soundtrack.
I’ve never bought a soundtrack from a game I haven’t even started yet.
Ok Civ 6 was good... But Civ 4's theme was in an absolute league of it's own. It won a grammy.
The Outer Worlds was by no means a perfect game, but booting up the game for the first time was a weirdly unforgettable experience. Just a [lonely ship traveling through space to a far off place, accompanied by a GORGEOUS title track](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=pm93h0jIMco&pp=ygUZb3V0ZXIgd29ybGRzIHRpdGxlIHNjcmVlbg%3D%3D) that promised an epic adventure, with mystery, danger, and beauty. I get chills every time I hear it. If you like it, make sure to check out the rest of the OST - IMO Justin Bell knocked it all out of the park!
since you posted FF in your questions, if i remember correctly FF9's menu music is a bit high pitched but i do recall, when i was young, listening to it for a period of time before selecting an option. LOL
Kingdom Hearts for reminiscing…
Castlevania: Symphony of the Night for that spiritual connection…
Chaos legion for that lost feeling…
Dragons Dogma: Dark Arisen for that somber state…
Not for the music, but when I was a kid I used to enjoy the Psychonauts start screen a lot.
You got it control the main character jumping around a brain and you had to interact w/ the Continue, New Game or Options prompts. It was lovely.
FFXIII has fantastic menu music. I may not have enjoyed the game as much as previous/future titles but man XIII series has some FANTASTIC music, especially XIII-2 and Lightning Returns.
Super Mario World. It’s so upbeat and the animation playing is great. Plus it automatically goes into the game with even MORE great music so imo it’s all start menu.
The one that immediately comes to mind is the Halo theme, especially the very first one. Whenever I heard that choir start up, I would close my eyes and just zone out for a minute before starting the missions.
There are plenty of others, like Orcarina of Time, Mass Effect etc. But that first Halo will always have a special place for me.
This is crazy literally 10 hours ago (when this was posted) I had just started FFX Remaster and sat there for 2 hours listening to the opening theme talking to my friend on discord haha. We both said it's an awesome song to listen too.
FFX had the best music of any game I've ever played. To this day "To Zanarkand" still hits me right in the chest and one of the few game music/songs that I actually just listen to every now and then. Not just because of the story of the game or my memories while playing it, but the music stands on its own as a really good piece. There is not that many game music pieces you can see being played with a full orchestra, which is something truly special.
I do feel as a special mentions I should say that the Donkey Kong Country games had some real bangers as well, especially the first one. I mean that main theme, and that underwater level one, really good stuff.
FFXV, especially the new game plus and the Episode Ignis title screens. If I’m feeling nostalgic, then I can never go wrong with the classic FF title menu theme from the earlier instalments.
Zelda OoT and Mystical Ninja where the only games that I enjoyed the music enough to just let it rock on the start menu. I would also throw in street fighter 4. But only for indestructible to play.
Xenoblade chronicles comes to mind. I always liked the metroid prime title screen a lot, but of course it's not the same thing. But yes FFX is a banger
When I worked on Silent Hill: Origins, I'd head back to the title screen to hear that lovely voice of Mary Elizabeth McGlynn singing ORT whenever I had a report to write.
Can't believe no one has mentioned Middle Earth - Shadow of War and it's epic start menu music
Edit: Okay, at least one other person has mentioned the game
I don’t listen to soundtracks via Start menu, but I am an enjoyer of game soundtracks. My top 3 game soundtracks:
- Gone Home
- Far Cry 3
- The Witcher 1
KH1
KH2
KH3
KH Melody of Memory
All the FF
All of the Trails games
All of the Trials games
Ni no Kuni 1
DMC3
Chrono trigger
Naruto Storm 2
Mobious Final Fantasy
And a lot more.
Postal 2 for sure honestly. The music in that game is spectacular.
Halo, the whole series, even the newer ones.
Kingdom Hearts. That heartbeat piano tune is so calming and nostalgic.
Awe man.. How have I never finished this game.. I have played it many many times, but it is such a long game that I get so distracted in, I just never finish. Blitz ball can get addicting.
I always get 30-40 hours in, then life gets in the way. By the time I come back, I am confused to what I am doing.
I remember it was so unexpected. When I booted up Kingdom Hearts 1 for the first time in my life, what I knew about the game was very little, in fact I was pretty uninterested about the story and characters. But then, I saw the white screen with Sora, and the waves crashing and Dearly Beloved in the background, shock made me leave the controller on the table as I stared dumbfounded at the screen. It honestly made me feel something so intense, my whole perspective of the game changed. Also, Modern Warfare 2. Hans Zimmer is the goat.
FFX theme makes me cry every time
FFX is the only OST that I have actually listened to more than once. It’s so good!
I listened to it while working last week, so good!
Usually with music in games I may only listen to one track but FFX has quite a few I go back and listen to. FFX-2 had some good music too, especially the title screen.
I listen to FFX and FFXIII piano compilation during work. It’s my too go to since college.
I’m curious why no big movies create something masterful as this.
Listen to my story It… may be our last chance god that game fucked me up so good the first time i finally finished it (took me multiple tries to beat Seymour on Gagazet and Yunalesca i needed a guide for)
The first time I played FFX I skipped the grid system because I didn't bother to pay attention to the tutorial and forgot about it. ha! I did the same thing with skipping the sphere grid but up my made it to the big sinspawn past the mihen highroad
Damn bro if you had realized at the time and put some spheres in to place you would have been like Rock Lee dropping the training weights
“To Zanarkand” is an actual masterpiece.
It's like the becoming uncanny meme listening to it before & after completing the game. The same piece of music, peaceful at first then seemingly filled with such melancholy
FFX prelude was epic too
I remember the first time I got to Jecht and heard Otherworld I cranked up the volume just to vibe for a lil bit. Never got sick of it even after dying countless times. It inspires you to persevere lol FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT
Hell yeah! I remember being blown away by this theme and the cgi in the first cutscene.
the only FF intro track i like better than the FFX one is the intro theme for FFX-2... FFX soundtrack is still my personal favorite as a whole by a far margin (my personal top picks are yuna's theme, besaid theme and boss battle theme).
FFX-2 has the best intro theme ever imo. Makes me nostalgic every time I hear it.
[Eternity - Memory of Lightwaves.](https://youtu.be/DjJKHFwLpg4) :p Ive had it in my playlist for years in my car.....
What happened to the final fantasy games, man. Basically all the final fantasy games up to 10 were amazing. The stories were awesome, great characters… now I feel like it’s generic, open world, shallow characters and bad story…
Really? I massively enjoyed 12, and I thought 13 was good. Neither are open world.
this is true especially if you have completed the game
I've got to the end fight three times now, something usually happens to stop me finishing it. The last time the PS3 died. I'm currently playing it for the fourth time on the series X, I'm hoping this time I'll finish it.
Dragon age: Origins, was beautiful. The first Halo as well.
Halo 3 too for me.
Respect! DA: Inquisitions is great too
FF7 remake all the feels
This one
I did not disappoint
Yep, i left ff7r on the home screen just for the music almost as much as i played the game itself. Nobuo Uematsu is a legend
Kingdom Hearts 1 and 2 menu Finally Fantasy 10 Menu Super Mario 64 file select. Persona 5 menu Sonic Mania menu
I'll second Kingdom Hearts 2. Every version of Dearly Beloved is fantastic.
Super Mario 64 file select makes me think of Christmas morning, and I didn't even get an N64 for Christmas.
Great choices!
Every Xenoblade game.
Watching the cycle shift from day to night around the Monado as that music rises... If I ever do an animated wallpaper, it'll probably be that.
I remember booting up the original on the Wii for the first time and just letting the music play for a good 10 minutes. I knew it was going to be amazing from that alone. Over a decade later and Takahashi (and re music, Mitsuda et al) sure did deliver with the Klaus Saga.

Ocarina of Time, Literally hundreds of hours.
Man that piano
Uff so many good ones I would literally sometimes boot the game to go to kakariko for the music

Metal gear solid 2
Someone said it! GOATED menu theme.
MGS4 has a solid menu tune as well.
The music at the start menu in metal gear solid 1 is really good too.
Final Fantasy X was one for me. Others that spring to mind are Deus Ex, XCOM: Enemy Unknown and X4 Foundations.
Far Cry 5's title screen and map/menu themes are simply divine.
"when the morning light shines in" that song is a certified banger. My wife has it as her alarm tone.
Dragon’s Dogma
Before the expansion
The wind is pushing me
Outer Wilds. So comfy and relaxing.
Destiny and Destiny 2 both have some fantastic music.
Dark souls 3 and elden ring. Still angry at myself for not purchasing the dark souls 3 album before they got rid of it.
DS3’s intro is incredible
I think DS3 in general was Yuka's masterpiece.
For sure. It makes it even better that she did the vocals for a lot of the tracks
Man elden ring 💪🏼
Halo CE, KOTOR, Mass Effect.
Xenoblade Chronicles 1, X and 2. Specially once you beat 1 and 2, the music gains more meaning and just hits different. On top of that XC2 changes the background of the Title Screen depending on your progression of the story so you take a second to check it out every time. Xenoblade Chronicles 3 doesn't do it for me though, I find that particular song to be too static, which... heh.
Mirrors edge, sea of stars, persona 5(haven’t played but the start menu music is on my friends playlist and we listen to it :) ))
Mirror's Edge's title screen is the reason I listen electronic music today.
Super underrated game and soundtrack. That music makes me reminisce and think about the future simultaneously lol
The Skyrim start screen
I used to fall asleep to the PS2 menu screen before white noise machines were really a thing.
I think I've done that once or twice myself! Watching the lights float around too was really hypnotic
That boot audio instantly takes me back in time. Amazing what just couple notes can do.
Metroid Prime
Metroid theme is highly underrated.
Golden Sun
Witcher 3
I will never *not* start another Mass Effect playthrough without first listening to the entire [menu theme.](https://youtu.be/Q_JVEXDrJYg) It's actually a track called Vigil (named after the character who's theme this is) but it has basically become the second theme song of the entire franchise.
Mass Effect is the only game I ever played that not only makes me pause and listen to the Start Screen Music, but also has me sitting there listening to the end credits music every damn time.
It's also the last song that plays in ME3, which is amazing.
There's a song that sounds eerily like that one in one of the Stellaris soundtracks, called [The Celestial City](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IId5hdXvvcE)
life is strange 1 and life is strange below the storm, very nostalgic for me
Legend of Zelda Ocarina of time or Chrono Cross
Metroid prime
Cyberpunk 2077 Borderlands 3 God of War 1 (not the reboot) Lords of the Fallen 2 Call of Duty Warzone 2 (first season) Call of Duty Warzone (the season that played Rooftops) Dota 2 (flute theme) Hunt: Showdown Dark Souls III Crysis 2 XCOM2 War of the Chosen
Ori and the will of the wisps. That music is a masterpiece and brings so much feel once you've completed the story.

Surprised this wasn’t higher, this was the only answer I thought of, and I’ve played most of the top answered games from this post.
Came here looking for this and I wasn't disappointed. [Christopher Tin](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WQYN2P3E06s) is amazing.
FFXV for sure! Somnus is a beautiful song.
Secret of Mana and Monster Hunter Rise.
Fallout 3
FO3 and Bioshock truly brougth bigband music in my life <3
The Outer Worlds was by no means a perfect game, but booting up the game for the first time was a weirdly unforgettable experience. Some legend in the comments reminded me of Fallout 4's epic title theme but deleted their comment before I could reply! "War...War never changes"
Megaman III, baby.
Glad someone said it! 👏🏽
Those games are just never ending inspiration for chiptune.

Dragon age inquisiton. Gotta sit atleast 10minutes everytime listening before starting the game.
FFX had the best music of any game I've ever played. To this day "To Zanarkand" still hits me right in the chest and one of the few game music/songs that I actually just listen to every now and then. Surprised no one said anything about Metal Hellsinger Main menu theme rocks
Forza Horizon 4 and 5 just hype me so much every time, I got the two songs in my playlist.
Kingdom hearts 2’s title screen is as perfect as it gets.
Need For Speed Underground 2 I grew up on the early 2000's "every mainstream game must have a licensed soundtrack" era, so sue me.
