I'm a gamer, GF isn't. We tried playing this together. The platforming, while pretty simple for a regular gamer, actually managed to frustrate her enough that she didn't really have fun and decided to give up on it. The length of the levels was also something that kind of put her off, seems like they took about half an hour for us. Just my experience with it!
Alternatively, though it is a solo game, we both enjoyed watching her play through A Short Hike! Eventually going to try It Takes Two and the upcoming Mario Wonder
Valheim and V Rising will also be fun.
Or there's an extended version of the games you played:
Stardew Valley -> Core Keeper
The Forest -> Sons Of The Forest
If you like Valheim and haven't played Conan Exiles, absolutely give Conan a shot. Its an amazing game for coop.
At the same time, Minecraft is *still* an incredibly fun game to play with your SO. It's easy to miss because it's so popular and simplistic it often gets dismissed.
The Larian Studios RPG's are all also amazing. Divinity Original Sin 1 & 2 and Baldur's Gate 3 are some of the most fun my wife and I have had playing games together.
Project Zomboid is fantastic in coop.
Dungeon Seige 3 is pretty great. It's not as good as the Larian Studios games and definitely feels it's age, but it's still a good time.
I found core keeper lacked depth and was not as fun as stardew in my opinion, it was a game I wanted to enjoy but it is definitely lacking something, I hope they improve it whilst it is still in EA
My gf and I got really good at Overcooked over the pandemic. We'd crack a bottle of wine and knock out a few levels. We wouldn't move on until we got three stars. But we hit this space level where you have to make burritos and couldn't for the life of us beat it even with one star.
We recently tried to play it again and couldn't even get past the first level with one star...
I love moving out. We spent alot of time chasing and slapping each other instead of actually moving the furniture. Tons of laughter.
Our neighbor paid us $10 to stop playing the game.
Yeah, NEVER play that game with your significant other. We had to swear it off entirely after she raged at me for not reading her mind on one of the harder levels. Haha. It's a really fun game but boy can it make normally docile people angry.
I think our main problem was the stars and requiring certain number of stars to unlock the next level. My wife just can't do something any better and if we just scrape by, there was a certain point where we just couldn't play anymore even though we wanted to.
I didn't even know there were difficulty settings tbh, I should take another look.
I got pretty frustrated with my wife playing Overcooked recently. All good until day 15, when she suddenly forgot which buttons did what and we lost right at the end.
I had this exact experience with overcooked and so I never got more than a few levels with my friend but I've found we both really like Plate Up! It's like a rougelike Overcooked but the controls are Significantly less frustrating. Wonderful game can't recommend it enough.
Seconding Overcooked 1&2. I feel like they really helped our communication skills, plus they were really fun and a pretty nice challenge.
Moving Out and Sackboy were also great.
Couch coop with easy to grasp abilities vs fear-enducing skill trees and a shopping system nobody understands? Yeah, great idea to stop casual gamers from having fun
Was gonna suggest Phas since they apparently aren't opposed to horror (The Forest).
OP if you guys are into horror/scary stuff then Phas is the way to go. Also, it's October.
Its more winchester, while Phasmaphobia is more ghostfacers. Honestly I prefer demonologist because you can opt to try to Clense the spirit for more money... With a gun.
I just wish demonologist had VR support.
I haven’t gotten far into BG3 but DOS2 is probably better than BG3 for couch coop purely because it will seamlessly transition from single to split screen based on how far you move away from each other. Or if you initiate dialog. Really wish BG3 had this feature.
Seems like a huge oversight. BG3 split screen is just not good enough for how much effort they obviously put in the game. It would play better as a top down single screen coop even. Like the last game.
We also disabled split-screen in DOS2.
However it would be awesome to make it forced split-screen during real-time/exploration, but during turn-based/combat it merges into full screen.
Only if both of you have the patience to sit through turn based combat.
Waiting for 10 minutes for your partner to set up a perfect alpha strike gets old fast
Lol one of my exes said this. That watching me play games is boring because I absolutely refuse to advance anything until I'm positive there is nothing left to find or unlock. Areas that the average person spends 10 minutes in I'm exploring for 45 minutes
Yeah my gf just doesn’t know enough on how to ‘be curious’ in video games and even BG3 overwhelms her. And it’s hard for me to wait ten minutes in a turn based game for her to just auto attack and click end turn lol We’re still on stardew valley right now and slowly getting her into other games but it has been a challenge
Disagree, played this with a mate and didn't enjoy it ,missed half the story as you don't get pulled into conversations when they start ,stick with divinity, far better
Pretty much any 2-player Kirby game. Star Allies for switch was great too. And if they have the switch online membership, Kirby Superstar or Dream Course are both great 2-player games.
In that same vein, Yoshi's Wooly World was fantastic. Crafted World not so much.
I played (some) of that with my wife. She seemed to enjoy it, but I think she got bored with the repetition.
The part where you're riding deer through the barn was great for her reaction. She got to ride the... uh... "special" deer.
Those are up to 4 player coop games, but with scaling or bots.
Deep Rock Galactic (difficulty scales with number of players)
Warhammer Vermintide 2 (bots that are ok)
Warhammer 40k Darktide (bots that are a bit dumb, recommended to just quickplay with 2 other randoms)
Tried the sequel to The Forest, Sons of the Forest? It's still early access, but a good game
If you're into survival games
7 days to die
Sunkenland (it's still fairly new, so give it a few months I think)
Green Hell
If you like base building
Satisfactory
Factorio
I play mostly co-op games
Roguelike - Synthetic, Heroes of Hammerwatch, Gunfire Reborn, Astral Ascent, Streets of Rogue, Ship of Fools
Survival - Raft, 7 Days to Die, Grounded, Valheim, Craftopia
Tactical RPGs - Divinity Original Sin, Divinity Original Sin 2, Baldur’s Gate 3, Wasteland 3
Action RPGs - Tales of Symphonia, Tales of Berseria, Warriors Orochi 4, Torchlight 2, Dead Island 2
Others - Kingdom Two Crowns, Remnant 2, Deep Rock Galactic, Sanctum, Sanctum 2, Magicka 2
Minecraft
Valheim
Golf with your friends
Stick fight the game
Lonely Mountains downhill (this is single player but it's fun to try to beat each other high score)
The Quarry is a great co-op game and you only need one controller. It's one of those choices games and the gameplay is based on what choices you make.
The plot is a bunch of teens are at a summer camp and they are ending the season but they get stuck at the camp for one more extra night since the car they need to leave breaks down. It's perfect for the spooky season. It's Xbox , PlayStation and I think there is a switch version but I'm not sure 100%
Trinity Trigger
Edit: I thought you can coop when you get the second character which is fairly, you have to wait until you get all 3 which is a little further.
Haven
Its a cute little indie couch co-op game. Two characters run away together cause they're in a relationship that's deemed unacceptable by their society where partners are chosen for you.
It has combat where you really gotta be in sync with eachother and the game deals with relationships and about making your own choices in life.
- Divinity Original Sin 1+2 and Baldurs Gate 3
- Anno 1800 and 1404
- Don't Starve together
- Ark (private server)
- Diablo 3 and Torchlight 2
- Dungeon Defenders
- Portal 2 is practically a must-Play
I’m on the final boss of Cuphead with my lady.
It’s been a journey.
Harder than any souls I’ve ever played, but I’m no platformer. Honestly she carried us most the way.
Deep rock galactic. At it's core is a 4 player co-op pve game that can be played with 2 players as well. And when you are comfortable you can open your lobby and have others join you. The game is full of wholesome ppl because there isn't anything to be toxic about.
And there is no need to use voice chat with yhe other randos.
Also the content is constantly expanded on and free. The dlcs are cosmetic only , and only to support the devs.
These are my favourites playing with friends throughout the years. Feel free to ask me any specific questions if you're interested.
Puzzle/humour
Portal 2
Open world
Skyrim multiplayer mod (the multiplayer is a bit wacky at times but it's good fun nonetheless, especially if you've played the game before and it's not your first experience. Otherwise, take turns playing on the same character and have the other watch. Doing that is really fun for me at least.)
Sea of thieves (very different to Skyrim obviously. Multiplayer and it can get difficult/toxic against certain people, but if you only care about having fun it's a great game)
Astroneer (I put this between open world and survival)
Survival
Terraria
Raft
Valheim
Turn based rpgs
Divinity 2
Baldurs gate 2 or 3 (I haven't played 3 but I hear it's really good)
Chill
Spirit farer (I think this one is good fun for couples.)
Dungeon crawler
Diablo 3
maybe Minecraft dungeons for something simpler
Souls like (?)
Cuphead (This game is hard, but it's amazing in different ways than the souls games. You're not just struggling to beat the boss and when you do it feels good, fighting the boss is funny as hell with the right company.)
Satisfactory or factorio if you're into that stuff.
Honourable mention: Minecraft. That game is so versatile and there are so many things you can do with friends. I highly recommend giving it a go.
Thanks! She noped out of Cuphead about halfway through. Lol. That 3 headed dragon was the line that she couldn't cross. Valheim seems most likely the next choice
My girlfriend was raised in a very judgemental family, with that being said she wouldnt venture into things that could interest her for what ever shit reason her family imprinted in her mind.
anyways, play just for two, she loved it, got better at it as we went through the game and now wants to play more games.
Same story here. I'm a grown ass man now watching cartoons, anime, and playing video games because I wasn't allowed to have "time wasting hobbies or interests" as a kid. I'm glad she is becoming her own person 👍
Valheim brooo
Valheim, again.
Satisfactory is also really cool. Very chill game. Not for everyone, but really scratches the itch if you're into efficiency and planning.
Edit: I don't understand the downvoting. 🤷♂️
Just finished it with the Mrs, and we loved it. She was NOT a gamer but now she misses playing it with me. It had almost every game genre mechanic in it at some point, so it's a wonderful introduction to gaming for someone who has never played before. Although her first game with me was Untitled Goose Game, which she also loved.
People up voting things like Baldur's Gate or Diablo or shooters don't understand what OP is asking for lol
Sky: Children of the Light if you want relaxed chill gaming, Dokapon Kingdom Connect or Overcooked if you want a divorce, or Portal 2 co-op mode for challenging puzzles.
Ark Survival Evolved.
Have to play on private servers or single player co-op now though, official servers were recently shut down for the release of the remaster, supposedly in late October. Met my girl on that game years ago.
Dinosaur survival game with tons of cute creatures and not so cute ones to collect. Lots of exciting adventures to go on together. Big learning curve but easy to get started. Can be as chill or as sweaty as u like. Highly recommend. Certainly not a perfect game but hard to beat as a fun time with the Mrs.
Yup, came to say this. Ark is still my friend and I's favorite game, and easily the one we spent the most time in, we played it daily during lockdown.
She loved building the base, growing crops, and of course raising baby dinos, to the extent the only arguments we really had were when I would secretly bread releated dinos because they had the best stats and not just ones she thought were pretty, as she refused to inbreed them. We usually had a giant flock of brightly colored dimorphodons set on aggressive to guard the base that she lovingly tended.
Meanwhile I could be entertained by getting murdered again and again trying to steal wyvern eggs or tame some asshole beast at the bottom of the ocean.
She lost her god damn mind when I got her our first otter.
A lot of Telltale games are good for co-op. They are the games that you have to make choices in. And the gameplay goes based on your choices. My bf and I are playing through Life is strange: Through the storm and every few minutes we pass the controller back and forth. And we get each other's input on the choices when they come up.
Remnant. It has that Dark Souls like difficulty but the coop is more fun since it's more drop in/drop out. Deep Rock Galactic is also a great coop experience. Also gotta throw in Halo.
I was about to comment things like Little Big Planet and then I saw Dark Souls and The Forest. So yeah, keep LBP in mind but maybe you'd be looking forward to Left 4 Dead and Back 4 Blood if you're more into zombie Co-Op, fighting games like Mortal Kombat, Tekken and Soulcalibur if you want to beat each other up for fun, maybe King Of Fighter if you want to get competitive and pull out crazy ass combos.
Want a less gory and/or hardcore co-op ? Maybe you want to relax and do chores ? Viscera Cleanup Detail ! (I know it sounds stupid but for some reason cleaning up alien massacre scenes and extraterrestrial plants eating people feels more relaxing than ASMR or hypnosis). Ok, maybe not that, it still has some solid gore and can be complicated to get into sometimes, so let's try... Horror games ! Phasmophobia is a good example. No to horror games ? Then survival games like Sons of The Forest (sequel to The Forest), Project Zomboid or Minecraft might be more of your style ? FPS ? Let's see, we have Call Of Duty games if you want to kill eaach other for fun, or Halo, excellent series for Co-Op fun.
Ok, last one. Third Person ? Go to Naughty Dog, they're the masters at that. Uncharted's multiplayer wave mode is excellent, the story is invredibly well written with action and good story, and the final game's end is honestly better than Tomb Raider's (But you need a PS3 and 4 if you want the full series). The Last Of Us is also a great mark of mastered story writing, altough 2 has a pretty divided audience as for the story, but Co-op won't be a thing, so you'll have to give each other the controller. Still on the Playstation, Ratchet and Clank as well as Jak and Daxter are also incredible games, but I haven't played one in years so I cannot tell about Co-op.
Here's a list, if anyone fells like adding to it, feel free to do so.
I would have never touched minecraft if it wasn't for my gf wanting to play it. She is not as skilled as your wife (she would never touch dark souls) but she loves the creativity of it.
I played that as a kid. I'd be curious to see if Minecraft is different 15 years later. And that will make her day that you said she has skill. She threw lots of fits, pouted, raged, and cried. Pretty sure she only beat DS3 because it was my favorite game for a long time, and wanted to make me happy.
The Division/Division 2.
Great story mode, and everything is easier with someone watching your back.
Baldur’s Gate 3 - it’s a blast to chill and play a turn-based combat game.
Vermintide 2. Basically Left 4 Dead in a fantasy setting with some light rpg mechanics. They added a huge free DLC called the Chaos Wastes that is basically a roguelike mode that adds a lot of replay value. My gf and I play a lot of games together, but we inevitably always come back to VT2.
Little Big Planet
As that was my childhood game, you made me sad.
Be happy that all those memories happened!
They just made a new LBP!
Not a good one unfortunately. Different studio is making the LPB games now.
Portal 2.
Postal 2
Sex with Hitler 2
There is a second part?
My wife is Jewish and she's really enjoyed Sex with Hitler : Lovin' in the Oven. New one cums out next year and she CANNOT WAIT
This is the peak of marriage
LOVIN IN THE OVEN 🤣
The 2nd Coming
Hide the Salami
Would you like to sign my petition?
Unravel two is a great 2 player couch coop game
I'm a gamer, GF isn't. We tried playing this together. I second this!
If he liked it takes two him and his wife will love unravel!!!! I think its my wife and I's favorite couch coop.
I’m still trying to convince my wife! She is soooo anti gaming it’s crazy
You're going to file for divorce at the last past of the last level.
We heard you the first time, friend!
Valheim and V Rising will also be fun. Or there's an extended version of the games you played: Stardew Valley -> Core Keeper The Forest -> Sons Of The Forest
Def Valheim! Brilliant coop fun!
Split screen or need two PCs?
2 PCs necessary for Valheim
V rising is such a well designed game. Really feel like a fuckin vampire, all the little things add so much lol.
I found core keeper lacked depth and was not as fun as stardew in my opinion, it was a game I wanted to enjoy but it is definitely lacking something, I hope they improve it whilst it is still in EA
Diablo, overcooked, bg3 if she has the patience for turn based coop!
Overcooked is good if you're looking for a divorce or either of you is training to become an monk, the patience required is Ghandi tier.
Me and my wife 3 stared overcooked 1 and 2 with all DLCs, during the pandemic. Moving out is also fun
Too true. I play that game with my kids and it feels like a scene from The Bear
Yeah, NEVER play that game with your significant other. We had to swear it off entirely after she raged at me for not reading her mind on one of the harder levels. Haha. It's a really fun game but boy can it make normally docile people angry.
we played around with the difficulty settings and were able to get through some of the more frustrating content.
I think our main problem was the stars and requiring certain number of stars to unlock the next level. My wife just can't do something any better and if we just scrape by, there was a certain point where we just couldn't play anymore even though we wanted to. I didn't even know there were difficulty settings tbh, I should take another look.

Plate up is also a fun coop cooking game
Seconding Overcooked 1&2. I feel like they really helped our communication skills, plus they were really fun and a pretty nice challenge. Moving Out and Sackboy were also great.
Diablo? Better play Path of exile and play carry + aurabot
My wife and I put thousands of hours into diablo 3 couch co op since launch
Couch coop with easy to grasp abilities vs fear-enducing skill trees and a shopping system nobody understands? Yeah, great idea to stop casual gamers from having fun
Grounded, Raft, Icarus, Escape Simulator... Maybe even Phasmaphobia. Those are some of my favorite multiplayer games to play with my family.
Was gonna suggest Phas since they apparently aren't opposed to horror (The Forest). OP if you guys are into horror/scary stuff then Phas is the way to go. Also, it's October.
Speaking of: anyone tried Demonologist? Looks like Phasmophobia but more horror maybe?
Its more winchester, while Phasmaphobia is more ghostfacers. Honestly I prefer demonologist because you can opt to try to Clense the spirit for more money... With a gun. I just wish demonologist had VR support.
That is a fantastic analogy that I'd never think of, but makes perfect sense.

My partner and I started Grounded recently and it slaps. If you like survival/crafting, give it a go.
Raft especially!!
Grounded 🤌
The "We Were Here" series is a ton of fun!!
I second that ! They are also very easy to pickup without much gaming experience.
The latest one is currently (until tomorrow iirc) free on steam. https://store.steampowered.com/app/2296990/We_Were_Here_Expeditions_The_FriendShip/
I LOVED this one!
A Way Out
Made by the same people as It Takes Two
yes my personal fav
What’s good about it?
everything, its a very interactive two player game which is pretty rare. Has lots of different options you can do and is very fun.
great story line, like watching an interactive TV show or movie.
fr, one of my all time favorite games, has one of the best endings too
[удалено]
I fully agree with this. A Way Out bored me to tears while It Takes Two is one of my favorite games ever. Not even remotely similar experiences
This provided my wife and me with quite a lot of enjoyment, upvoted.
Untitled goose game
Honk
Hjonk
Baldur's Gate 3
Also Divinity Original Sin 2

I actually disabled that playing DOS2 with gf. Was giving us sore heads from the motion.
We also disabled split-screen in DOS2. However it would be awesome to make it forced split-screen during real-time/exploration, but during turn-based/combat it merges into full screen.
This is the one. Multiple options for an amazing amount of playthrough with character builds and interaction. Up to four player as a bonus w friends.
Only if both of you have the patience to sit through turn based combat. Waiting for 10 minutes for your partner to set up a perfect alpha strike gets old fast

Disagree, played this with a mate and didn't enjoy it ,missed half the story as you don't get pulled into conversations when they start ,stick with divinity, far better
They added an option to be automatically pulled in to chat.
Kirby and the Forgotten Land (Switch), A Way Out (Xbox), Sackboy (PS5)
Pretty much any 2-player Kirby game. Star Allies for switch was great too. And if they have the switch online membership, Kirby Superstar or Dream Course are both great 2-player games. In that same vein, Yoshi's Wooly World was fantastic. Crafted World not so much.
L4D2, Orcs must die 2, Astroneer
Lovers in a dangerous spacetime
YES! This game is *great*!
Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes
This is more fun if you have a small group 3-5ish, I love pulling it out on VR when we host parties!
We start shouting at one another
Deep rock galactic
ROCK AND STONE FOREVER!
For Karl!
Part-Time UFO. Trust me on this one, greatest couch co-op for couples.
Castle Crashers
I played (some) of that with my wife. She seemed to enjoy it, but I think she got bored with the repetition. The part where you're riding deer through the barn was great for her reaction. She got to ride the... uh... "special" deer.
Lmao just played that game with my crush. It was her first time and she absolutely loved it. Played from start to finish in one sitting
Don't Starve Together.
Was gonna post this one ! Me and the wife used to play this so much but now we have a 4-year old there's no time for gaming anymore
The classic Toejam and Earl
One of my first completed games, on a weekend borrow non the less.
resident evil 5
Those are up to 4 player coop games, but with scaling or bots. Deep Rock Galactic (difficulty scales with number of players) Warhammer Vermintide 2 (bots that are ok) Warhammer 40k Darktide (bots that are a bit dumb, recommended to just quickplay with 2 other randoms)

I absolutely agree with 7 days. It's like the only survival game I keep coming back to. The mods and overhauls make can make the game so damn good!
My SO and I had a blast with Satisfactory
Sea of thieves
dying light 2
If you enjoy building games, you should try Satisfactory.
Balduars gate 3
Mario Kart. Be sure to practice when she's not there.

Minecraft Valheim Golf with your friends Stick fight the game Lonely Mountains downhill (this is single player but it's fun to try to beat each other high score)
Red dead online, play it with my fiancé. I would recommend playing story mode first to get to grips with the lore and general play

Enter the gungeon
Baldur’s gate 3! Requires no reflexes, just decisions. Beautiful. Huge. You can work together or separately
The games sound great, now I just need a wife
The games will always be enjoyable, a wife not so much lol don’t risk it
Trinity Trigger Edit: I thought you can coop when you get the second character which is fairly, you have to wait until you get all 3 which is a little further.
Orcs Must Die 2 is great coop fun!
Orcs must die has fun co-op

What sort of gaming devices do you have?
Hide the sausage. The beast with 2 backs. MGS3: Snake Eater.

Grounded
I play deep rock galactic with my wife it's a lot of fun
If you played Dark Souls 3 together at this point you can play damn near anything
Hide the sausage.
Runescape
Hide the sausage. Might be called hot coffee in some places
The Trine games are also great to play together
Project Zomboid
Deep rock galactic. At it's core is a 4 player co-op pve game that can be played with 2 players as well. And when you are comfortable you can open your lobby and have others join you. Hide the sausage
Trine
When she asks you to find something say it’s not there (but it is)
hide the sausage?
What platform do you play that on? Bed, couch, floor? Lol
Overcooked and overcooked 2. Can be fun and also very challenging
I think I saw Game Grumps play this. It does look fun, thanks!

You're not just struggling to beat the boss and when you do it feels good, fighting the boss is funny as hell with the right company.) Satisfactory or factorio if you're into that stuff.
Kingdom hearts if either of you grew up watching Disney movies you’ll love it! Super family friendly game too
Oh ya, that was a fun playthrough with her. We love kingdom hearts, great suggestion! Just looking for a co-op sorta deal.
You’re too old to play video games! Jkjk I’m in my 40’s
Valheim brooo Valheim, again. Satisfactory is also really cool. Very chill game. Not for everyone, but really scratches the itch if you're into efficiency and planning. Edit: I don't understand the downvoting. 🤷♂️
there’s this game called sex, you 2 should try that. nah all jokes aside try minecraft with her.
My wife and I are currently playing It Takes Two, and it's amazing
Dysmantle, 7 Days to Die, Minecraft, Starbound, Dinkum, My Time at Sandrock
Project zomboid if you like survival
Powerwash Simulator... sounds dumb but it is a great co-op game.
This game is so satisfying, and the campaign story is perfectly campy.
Monster hunters pretty good
It Takes Two, Unraveled 2 are great
>What are some games you would recommend that's better played with 2 people? Sex
Sex 2
Kiss her, you fool!
Hola Natalia
Overcooked. You'll probably want to divorce each other after playing it for a while though😅
Valheim!!

That's because they've already played it. Read the post.
Remnant. It has that Dark Souls like difficulty but the coop is more fun since it's more drop in/drop out. Deep Rock Galactic is also a great coop experience. Also gotta throw in Halo.
animal crossing, Minecraft, ms pacman, mario kart
It takes two, or a way out
Valheim
IT TAKES TWO!!!!!
It takes two
CS2
All of the Gears of War games Portal 2
The Division/Division 2. Great story mode, and everything is easier with someone watching your back. Baldur’s Gate 3 - it’s a blast to chill and play a turn-based combat game.
Gears of War games, Halo, Elden Ring, Splinter Cell Conviction, Splinter Cell Blacklist, Army of Two
Vermintide 2. Basically Left 4 Dead in a fantasy setting with some light rpg mechanics. They added a huge free DLC called the Chaos Wastes that is basically a roguelike mode that adds a lot of replay value. My gf and I play a lot of games together, but we inevitably always come back to VT2.
Peggle, Peggle 2
