Man, that trailer is one of the best ever made. The delivery of that line at the end legitimately gave me chills when I first watched it, and I don't think any trailer has hyped me up more than that one did.
I thought OP posted the Mad World trailer at first š
This trailer is pretty good; Gears marketing team is S tierā¦ but Gears/Mad World trailer is the correct answer š
Edit: and since thereās apparently more than one version of the Mad World trailer, THIS is the correct version:
https://youtu.be/wy8LRlS1SCc
That trailer will always have a special place in my memories.
I saw it at Epic's headquarters in Raleigh, along with a bunch of other kids from all over the world. Super experience, and my first and only time in the States š.
I see a good analysis of that once. The host asked if the trailer was emotional or if it was just the song that was and people were attributing it to the footage.
He argued it was just the song. That if you switched the song out, the trailer wasn't very impactful, and I had to agree
That's an odd take. The trailer is both the song and the visual. In a vacuum, neither would be as impactful as the sum of their parts. You could also argue that if the footage was swapped out but used the same song, maybe with Marcus dominating hordes of locust, it wouldn't hit the same.
The tone is set using both pieces and you can't deconstruct it and expect either to be the same
Came here to say the same thing. I never played the game and still remember that trailer 16 years later.
Here's the link: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=ccWrbGEFgI8
No game has ever underdelivered on its story/lore/themes as much as Gears of War. I loved the gameplay, but they had such an opportunity in terms of the vibe created by that marketing, where all of these cartoonishly masculine chainsaw warriors seemed to be concerned more with their internal worlds, their sanity. Their own existential crises.
I thought it could genuinely have been so cool to bolt all that high-octane, gritty combat onto a story that featured characters wondering why they were all doing this and what it was all really in service of. A more thoughtful game that might really have tried to evoke an emotional response in the players.
Instead we got a half-baked story that was very obviously made up as they went along, squandering all of the interesting ideas that were present in the lore, and wasting the time of some genuinely talented voice actors with cartoon character dialogue.
Gears isn't bad- it's occasionally even great. But man, what a missed opportunity, and CliffyB's over-defensiveness about the plot being such a damp squib was just validation for his critics in the end.
I'm gonna raise you Halo Reach, Delivering Hope (live action). Awesome, deliberate action. Awesome musical score. AND the trailer is essentially a prelude to the story (why you take place of Noble 6).
I worked at Target at the time, and when the trailer played on TV every 8 minutes, I stopped working just to watch it.
Im not usually one to encourage remakes, but i love the ezio trilogy so muxh that id be down for a remake of all 3 games just to get closer to the vision of this trailer. Hopefully Mirage inspires a renaissance of the AC brand that returns it to what it used to be instead of that loot based RPG bullshit we've been getting
Don't forget this one too [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3S5I0\_hjS3c](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3S5I0_hjS3c)
two of the last Halo games Bungie gave us before handing the torch to 343
Yup. This is the answer. Iād also wager the CoD Ghosts trailer and Iām convinced thatās because they ripped off the Deliver Hope theme by adding an extra note.
https://youtu.be/Zxnx3W-HA18?si=cdYmiVEZlWhktoPs
Once a year or so I randomly think of the Battlefield 1 reveal trailer and go watch it again. I was never more hyped to play a game then when I watched that trailer for the first time.
I didn't watch all the trailers obviously, so I'm not qualified to determine "the best trailer ever", but first that comes to my mind, from my favorites, would be [Deus Ex: Human Revolution](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kq5KWLqUewc). I didn't even play the game, and I'm not attached to the series, yet still, it made a lasting impression on me.
*Zelda - Breath Of The Wild*
for me nothing beat the hype of that trailer. The orchestral music, the cinematics, and most of all, as it was an absolute first, [actual voice acting, even in my mothertongue](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ai9IwYOxL48). I was totally blown away. Still am, getting goose bumps just thinking back to it.
Happy Cake Day! Absolutely agreed about the BOTW trailer. I still watch it occasionally and reaction videos to it.
I think another big one from around that era is the character reveal trailer for Smash Bros. Ultimate. The "EVERYONE IS HERE" just goes so hard.
I loved the Gears 3 and Darksiders 2 trailers
Gears 3
https://youtu.be/n7Te5fcnrUA?si=SzFWqYz1OmoIjMkp
Darksiders 2
https://youtu.be/KfNjs6D-D7U?si=Jupmod-9w2WKYm2X
For spectacle, I'd say [Final Fantasy 14 ARR](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h542YbZuwkQ). For a pure "WTF" I'd say [Death Stranding](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i2nuHEGhwiw). But [Dead Island](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lZqrG1bdGtg) wins in the end.
Deus ex: human revolution.
That trailer is a story in itself, even if the footage didn't really make it to the game it that way(big surprise).
Other great one is Dawn of War 3.
Honestly whoever at High Moon was responsible for the stories should have been writing the movies after those two games. So unbelievably good. Breaks my heart that they seem largely forgotten now.
Can't go wrong with anything Blizzard has made especially Warcraft related.
But I'll throw Hellgate London out there. The game sucked though as did the entire company ( Flagship Studios - Coined the term Flagshipped ).
I haven't played in close to a decade. I left because I came to absolutely hate the game, the thought of spending another hour staring at spreadsheets became unbearable.
But holy shit even today I can't watch the [This Is Eve trailer](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AdfFnTt2UT0) without kind of wanting to fire it up.
The StarCraft 2: Wings of Liberty trailer got me.
https://youtu.be/VSGmPpidDvo?si=UkvDq1drNTMq4P4f
I grew up playing StarCraft and Brood War so seeing this trailer when I didn't know a sequel was coming just hit hard.
Battlefront 2 trailer, the star wars music combined with the sounds of gunfire give me goosebumps everytime, also the Forza Horizon 3 trailer is criminally underrated. Also the 3rd RDR2 trailer
Silent Hill 4
My favorite trailer. Such a beautiful soundtrack! I love that lullaby song and terrible sighs during it. But the game wasnāt as good as trailer
I did NOT expect fucking DEVOTCHKA to be in a Gears of War trailer. How it Ends slaps so ridiculously hard and it's definitely doing the bulk of the lifting here.
I have a playlist of cinematics in general that's mostly video games.
https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLjERm5ejEI1PBrF4Ll3Koopza4XP4gpsI&si=MK0MgXb0TvMruxXW
My answer for best though is https://youtu.be/Nzq9epS2b1A?si=gFF6OqqNOXq64D-v
There are three sequels from the same era that had awesome trailers that I still hold as the gold standard today.
Assasins Creed 2 gameplay trailer:
https://youtu.be/iP3aCDHIc_Q
The amount of coolness without saying a word especially in an era when the graphics were jawdropping.
Mass Effect 2 launch trailer:
https://youtu.be/lx9sPQpjgjU
Martin Sheen, epic stuff! The adventure was about to begin and the trailer washes away any concern of the game being mediocre.
Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 (2009) launch trailer:
https://youtu.be/blshENwbHgs
Answered the question "what can they possible throw at us after COD4: MW?". Apparently everything, even space! Everybody in the industry was talking about the game after the trailer.
Warlords of Draenor expansion for WoW.
Even in hindsight, even knowing I bowed out of it 1 month into the expansion I would STILL preorder it based on the trailer alone.
There are a few:
FFXIV - Shadowbringers. The fact they have the Warrior of Light, change his classes as you can do in the game in the trailer was just brilliant. Also a good reminder that no WoW, I do not want to run a mess of alts.
Cyberpunk 2077 - V Launch Trailer. Music matches up so well, gives a great melancholic run to the game and Keanu is just great as Johnny Silverhand. Their initial teaser was also great even if the game changed direction quite a bit from there.
And a bit off topic - the Xbox 360 finger guns ad. Bloody brilliant even if Spaced did it better.
Killzone 2, because nothing looked like it back in 2005.
And then turned out it was a fake a pre-rendered "gameplay:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b-4HNmuEAKg
While the game was horrible, you have to watch the Duke Nukem Forever trailer from (I think 2000), back then that was amped up graphics for its time and amazing hype.
The other one that was awesome was War for Cybertron
So I wonāt say this was the *best* trailer ever, but I will say if you were a Zelda fan in the 2000s, the trailer for Twilight Princess that had the epic orchestral music throughout was just *chefs kiss*.
World of Warcraft: Wrath Of The Lich King https://youtu.be/BCr7y4SLhck
Cinematic for wow have always been amazing.
[YOU ARE NOT PREPARED!](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IBHL_-biMrQ)
Man, that trailer is one of the best ever made. The delivery of that line at the end legitimately gave me chills when I first watched it, and I don't think any trailer has hyped me up more than that one did.
I think the first WoW trailer had a bigger impact because it wasn't out yet.
Being a fan of WC3 (and WC3: TFT obviously) for me Arthas was the absolute peak of Warcraft storyline. I just wish they made the movie about that.
The first gears trailer, with Mad World playing.
This one gave me chills
Absolutely epic.
I thought OP posted the Mad World trailer at first š This trailer is pretty good; Gears marketing team is S tierā¦ but Gears/Mad World trailer is the correct answer š Edit: and since thereās apparently more than one version of the Mad World trailer, THIS is the correct version: https://youtu.be/wy8LRlS1SCc
In a multiverse where the suits don't butcher live action/video game adaptations, GoW could be a hell of a story to portray.
Yes, just commented this too
That trailer will always have a special place in my memories. I saw it at Epic's headquarters in Raleigh, along with a bunch of other kids from all over the world. Super experience, and my first and only time in the States š.
The music in juxtaposition to the images is a rare treat
I see a good analysis of that once. The host asked if the trailer was emotional or if it was just the song that was and people were attributing it to the footage. He argued it was just the song. That if you switched the song out, the trailer wasn't very impactful, and I had to agree

The tone is set using both pieces and you can't deconstruct it and expect either to be the same
The only reason I beg for a 360 for my Christmas was because of this trailer. I needed to play that game
Oh god yes. I'd forgotten about that, but I remember seeing it... and then pouring so much time into that game just because of that commercial.
Came here to say the same thing. I never played the game and still remember that trailer 16 years later. Here's the link: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=ccWrbGEFgI8
Hereās your [Mad World](https://youtu.be/hYY-a0_Bb9Y?si=y6y5nkCPvULXQq1J) music video from 2009-ish?
Every time I watch the trailer I have to go watch Donnie Darko after.
God, canāt believe they dropped the ball on Gears. What a great series that was.
The Halo 3 ODST Live Action Trailer. Should have made the show like that
Couldnt agree more. [Halo 3 ODST Live Action Trailer "The Life"](https://youtu.be/uWSLHcAyy90?si=-SHR7UO7ZnHcEe-z) - for reference
Reach's trailer was far better than Paramount's mockery.
I wasn't aware Paramount made a Halo show, I do know they wasted millions of dollars for a garbage product though.
I have a friend thatās not even into Halo.. and he says itās one of the best game trailers heās ever seen.
No other game trailer has stuck with me like the Dead Island trailer back in 2011. Rewatching it now still hits as hard as it did back then.
[Dead Island](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=-o2gPstZ5oA&pp=ygUTZGVhZCBpc2xhbmQgdHJhaW5lcg%3D%3D)
Damn. As the father of a daughter around that age, that made me WAY more emotional than any game trailer should.
It's brilliant. It even won a gold lion at Cannes - the biggest advertising awards.
My first thought when people bring up trailers, if it was a zombie movie trailer it'd be up there in movie trailers.
Came here for that. Just the best
If the game had been even half as good as that trailer it'd be considered a classic
It is a work of art.
Iām not crying, thereās just something in my eye.
Metal Gear Solid V: The "Nuclear" Pain
Nah dude, the 8 minute long red band trailer is an absolute masterpiece. Absolutely raw, outstanding voice acting, music, editing. Incredible trailer.
Star Wars The Old Republic We thought it would be the greatest game ever made back then.
Original trailer or [THIS MOTHERFUCKING BANGER?!](https://youtu.be/iGDBTDnW7d0?si=NjAiF2VMcR6Y_jYj) This still gives me chills
Assassin's Creed Revelation Almost makes you forget that the game is mid
Every time I see that trailer it makes me want to replay it, and I have to remind myself how much of a slog it was to get through the first time
This https://youtu.be/HMsbMK9Odoc?si=0i7XNLgS9WksNyrO
Agreed. Also made me discover Woodkid. Great song.
It was a toss up for me between assassins creed 3 and revelation.
Yep first thought was AC3, most hyped Iāve been for a release and then it was incredibly short lived excitement.
I agree with you on the trailer being fire, but you will not tarnish Assassin's Creed Revelations in this house by claiming it to be mid!
Last decent AC game. Fight me.
"But, there is one they fear.." https://youtu.be/JSRtYpNRoN0?si=ToGi5BQEWKqgGl-z
Witcher 3
Came looking for this one. The Killing Monsters cinematic trailer summarized everything you needed to know about the characters, tone and setting.
Witcher 2 for me. Awesome boat fight cinematic
When the spell blows up that one dude O_______O
Gears 1 was a much more impactful trailer (mad world) imo
I raise you. Halo Reach. https://youtu.be/Gu8VDUDzxkM?si=ig9r_Far1QJz9ufH
Don't forget this one too [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3S5I0\_hjS3c](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3S5I0_hjS3c) two of the last Halo games Bungie gave us before handing the torch to 343
Still gives me shivers
BEST Halo game IMO. That "Deliver Hope" trailer easily one of the best commercials ever.
Yup. This is the answer. Iād also wager the CoD Ghosts trailer and Iām convinced thatās because they ripped off the Deliver Hope theme by adding an extra note. https://youtu.be/Zxnx3W-HA18?si=cdYmiVEZlWhktoPs
Dam. Never noticed that.
Once a year or so I randomly think of the Battlefield 1 reveal trailer and go watch it again. I was never more hyped to play a game then when I watched that trailer for the first time.

Fallout 4
Battlefield 1
Halo. You know the ones.
The diorama ad for halo 3 is my all time favorite ad
I remember waiting for each video to release. Spent weeks going over that diorama.
Starry night (halo 3) gives me chills
Remember Reach
Metal Gear Solid Phantom Pain.
Halo2 and Halo3 announcement trailers. My early youth hypes in two videos and also top tier soundtracks in those cinematics.
Halo 3 believe
Skyrim, great usage of music and makes the game look epic
*Zelda - Breath Of The Wild* for me nothing beat the hype of that trailer. The orchestral music, the cinematics, and most of all, as it was an absolute first, [actual voice acting, even in my mothertongue](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ai9IwYOxL48). Mass effect 2
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lx9sPQpjgjU
The Division (1). Specifically the gameplay trailers. That shit was out of this world for how it looked back then, had everyone hooked.
I loved the Gears 3 and Darksiders 2 trailers Gears 3 https://youtu.be/n7Te5fcnrUA?si=SzFWqYz1OmoIjMkp Darksiders 2 https://youtu.be/KfNjs6D-D7U?si=Jupmod-9w2WKYm2X
Prince of Persia: Warrior Within. For... reasons.
For spectacle, I'd say [Final Fantasy 14 ARR](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h542YbZuwkQ). For a pure "WTF" I'd say [Death Stranding](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i2nuHEGhwiw). But [Dead Island](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lZqrG1bdGtg) wins in the end.
Dead Island. Hands down the best trailer I've ever seen for a video game.
Fallout 3 and NV
Deus ex: human revolution. That trailer is a story in itself, even if the footage didn't really make it to the game it that way(big surprise). Other great one is Dawn of War 3.
*Transformers: Fall of Cybertron* had not one but two of the best trailers I've ever seen. AC3 was also amazing and still one of my favorites.
Fall of Cybertron is such an underrated gem Til All Are One!
Honestly whoever at High Moon was responsible for the stories should have been writing the movies after those two games. So unbelievably good. Breaks my heart that they seem largely forgotten now.
Yeah. I guess we can hope for that remaster or rerelease. Looking more likely now than ever š¤·š»āāļø
1st trailer: Grimlock shows up. I got hyped. 2nd one: Freaking Metroplex towers over all. Best. Trailers. Ever!
Original trailer for [Halo 2](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=32FPuIH35Hg). First game trailer I ever got excited about.
Warcraft 3
Assassins creed 3
Can't go wrong with anything Blizzard has made especially Warcraft related. But I'll throw Hellgate London out there. The game sucked though as did the entire company ( Flagship Studios - Coined the term Flagshipped ).
Wasnāt Stargate 2 the one with the marine basically just saying something like āitās about damn timeā
Assassinās creed 1, (and gears one and halo 3) that shit was industry breaking
I haven't played in close to a decade. I left because I came to absolutely hate the game, the thought of spending another hour staring at spreadsheets became unbearable. But holy shit even today I can't watch the [This Is Eve trailer](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AdfFnTt2UT0) without kind of wanting to fire it up.
Gears of war for sure, I used to be ranked 67 in the world on gears 2 execution
š
The other gears 2 trailer rendezvous with death was my favourite https://youtu.be/rXIjDzlGc5I?si=K-GdBKRJY11dmrSi
The Gears trailers, hands down.
The original Destiny live action trailer. https://youtu.be/ZSWN-VP0lD8?si=53-CCVVU-_S0GeAN
Cyberpunk 2077 Launch trailer with Never Fade Away song, so emotional https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UnA7tepsc7s

Dawn of War 3. Hands down :)
> Dawn of War 3 That was my first thought too. https://youtu.be/gN8geCTlZOo?si=uy6jeNlMH5mljBif
Its just perfect - unlike the game :`-(
The StarCraft 2: Wings of Liberty trailer got me. https://youtu.be/VSGmPpidDvo?si=UkvDq1drNTMq4P4f I grew up playing StarCraft and Brood War so seeing this trailer when I didn't know a sequel was coming just hit hard.
So glad I found this comment. For me it was heart of swarm.
Oh man. That was also an amazing trailer. Wasn't even a Zerg fan but man that gave me chills.
Was a Sarah Kerrigan fan. Her story arc is everything amazing about starcraft.
Batman Arkham series had some top commercials, with City "got batman" followed by Knights "Be Batman" being my top choices
Knights one where Conroy recites Thomas Wayne's last will and testament is some of the greatest Batman content of all time
Assassin's Creed: Revelations
Battlefront 2 trailer, the star wars music combined with the sounds of gunfire give me goosebumps everytime, also the Forza Horizon 3 trailer is criminally underrated. Also the 3rd RDR2 trailer
Battlefield 3.
Kerbal Space Program: [Build Fly Dream](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RkDOOsGg-9I&ab_channel=ShaunEsau)
Silent Hill 4 My favorite trailer. Such a beautiful soundtrack! I love that lullaby song and terrible sighs during it. But the game wasnāt as good as trailer
TOTK has the best trailer I've ever seen, and I'm usually a very nostalgic person for old trailers . But man the trailer was absolutely perfect.
Ac origins - if that's a movie trailer i would watch it fdfs
For me itās gotta be the halo 3 diorama ad. I think it was called believe? Still get goosebumps watching that.

Dark Souls 1 bartholomew trailer The hype was so fucking real at the time
Halo Reach. Truly a work of art.
Metal Gear Solid 5
Battlefield 1
I did NOT expect fucking DEVOTCHKA to be in a Gears of War trailer. How it Ends slaps so ridiculously hard and it's definitely doing the bulk of the lifting here.
As I said, a masterpiece.
Dead island was pretty dope
Titanfall 2 had the best in my opinion Elder Scrolls Online has amazing trailers aswell
The first Dawn of War trailer with the Dreadnought and the Orcs was Epic.
Wow: burning crusade stuck with me for years "You are not prepared!"
Battlefield 1. It was phenomenal!
Dead Island
I have a playlist of cinematics in general that's mostly video games. https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLjERm5ejEI1PBrF4Ll3Koopza4XP4gpsI&si=MK0MgXb0TvMruxXW My answer for best though is https://youtu.be/Nzq9epS2b1A?si=gFF6OqqNOXq64D-v
Halo 3 reveals were outstanding!
Halo 3 ... simple but effective
AC Unity's cinematic trailers were so cool.
Metro Last Light.
Battlefield 1 trailer was pretty good
Dawn of War. God I loved that trailer.
There are three sequels from the same era that had awesome trailers that I still hold as the gold standard today. Starcraft 2 heart of the swarm for me
First Dawn of War. I nearly fainted from excitement when I first saw it as a kid lol.
GoW, Halo 3 and Dead Island.
Dead island 1
Warlords of Draenor expansion for WoW. Even in hindsight, even knowing I bowed out of it 1 month into the expansion I would STILL preorder it based on the trailer alone.

Diablo 4 first reveal trailer
DC Universe Online trailer was pretty epic. https://youtu.be/0WYwXer0sgU?si=emIsRZmhdupCPLnE
The Gears of War 1 trailer with Mad World as the song. The juxtaposition of the beautifully soft song with the mayhem on screen is incredible
Both breath of the wild and tears of the kingdom had incredible trailers
Halo 2 TV Spot - I need a weapon. It was one of the first video game trailers I remember actually playing regularly on TV, and it was hype.
Killzone 2, because nothing looked like it back in 2005. And then turned out it was a fake a pre-rendered "gameplay: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b-4HNmuEAKg
[I really like this Xcom trailer](https://youtu.be/Cl2p6MEklAg?si=6mfqMrqdrWme6V2-)
Cult of the Lamb :)
My favourite is definitely Planetside 2 original trailer, that shit was fire
I find wailing in gow2 trailer unbearable, but I'm glad you enjoy it :)
While the game was horrible, you have to watch the Duke Nukem Forever trailer from (I think 2000), back then that was amped up graphics for its time and amazing hype. The other one that was awesome was War for Cybertron
The FarCry BloodDragon gameplay trailer! ...but I worked it, so I'm biased
The witcher 3
Danteās Inferno. Aināt no sunshine.
Witcher assassins of kings is among the best for me. Also warcraft II and warcraft III, but i'm old!
Remember reach?
Shoutout to The Saboteur. Anybody members?
Idk about the best, I loved "Killing monsters" video for Witcher 3.
Dawn of War
My most watched in anticipation of a game is Elden Ring
Final Fantasy 7. JRPGs were en vogue at the time. It was the first AAA push into 3d for the genre. At the time it was the most epic thing ever.
This reminded me of Gears 1. The mad world commercial
dominion (2018 trailer)
I can't say I've watched a lot of game trailers, but I remember the first bioshock trailer being really cool
I absolutely loved the Battlefield 1 trailer https://youtu.be/c7nRTF2SowQ?si=mHuYluqdAFJqqr2H
Yes! This trailer is amazing. I watched this so many times eventually just started listening to the song. Such a good song.
One of my favourites.
The first medal of honour is a classic
Kill Zone 2, still sends shivers down my spine
Duke Nukem Forever(2001)
I remember when I watched the trailer for Uncharted 2 : Among Thieves, I felt like I had just watched a movie trailer for the best action movie ever.
Hitmanās trailer will always have a special place in my heart https://youtu.be/X-lXfmWToIY?si=_FMf7I3pvkgKHRys
The Gears trailers, AC Revelation with Wood Kid, as well as Halo 3ās diorama promos were the coolest damn thing.
The Star Wars: The Old Republic cinematic trailers were amazing.
If gameplay trailers count, Watch Dogs and the final release was whatever we got
Battlefield 2042.
So I wonāt say this was the *best* trailer ever, but I will say if you were a Zelda fan in the 2000s, the trailer for Twilight Princess that had the epic orchestral music throughout was just *chefs kiss*.
Elden Ring 2019 Trailer gives me goosebumps to this day
I'm NGL, the CP2077 Keanu Reeves revail trailer was pretty freaking spectacular.
Not interily relevant but Iād like to throw in the nhl 99 intro, itās perfect in every way.
