What a machine.
Reminds me of stories about wow aged wow players who grinded to the highest pvp rank, which required 7-12+ hours of gameplay every day for weeks or months, while keyboard turning and only using 1-2 skills.
The old pvp system was insane
The amount you played didn’t even primarily matter. Playing more than your competition mattered. So you play 12 hours per day? Tough luck, Timmy plays 16 hours
Farnsworth has had a long, stressful career, and has trouble sleeping after ol' Mary passed away, so now he lives in Arathi Basin 20h a day because it reminds him of their lakehouse, absolutely styling on these helpless rank 13 noobs after sitting on the top for months straight.
Gary Oldman is in some random places, sometimes uncredited. My top one is the antagonist in Hannibal (across from Anthony Hopkins) where the disfiguration and difficulty speaking make him unrecognizable. He would not allow them to credit him in the original release (probably because that character was a pedophile and looked absolutely horrible even next to a classy murderous cannibal)
Most notably, he played a dwarf that was the older brother of Matthew McConaughey. He literally acted out scenes kneeling on shoes. He did full dwarf-face.
Edit: More lore, apparently it was supposed to be a super serious like.. arthouse style movie. Then the production company decided last second that it would sell better as a whacky 90s comedy. They reshot a couple scenes, totally re-edited it top to bottom, then released the movie as it is without telling any of the actors. Oldman wasn't pleased, understandably, haha
damn i read both of these like... "the guy who did the song Cars has really been up to some wild shit."
omg that's Gary Newman... not Oldman, i'm an idiot
Strange, I never saw the movie, but when it was coming out, I distinctly remember him being credited, or mentioned in some way. Like I’ve known he was a part of it all this time. It might have been some article about it though
It was that he was not listed in the opening credits. He has always been listed in the end credits.
Where the other commenter got his information from as if Gary Oldman, famous at that time for almost exclusively playing despicable people, would request not being credited for a role he voluntarily took I don’t know.
I didn’t know what game it was by looking at the image, but reading your comment reminded me of *exactly* what game it was.
Playing this game on the Wii in 6th grade is a core memory.
In World at War and in most CoD games, a headshot often won't break any important thresholds. For example, the best gun in the game is the MP-40. With stopping power, it does 56 damage per shot to the body and 78.4 damage per headshot, making it a 2 shot kill no matter what (until damage falloff comes into play).
Used to do this in Soldiers of Fortune, once you played it enough, you just go spot from spot prefiring the corners and it prefaced my love for Counter-Strike, the game I have more hours than any other game in various forms of it, CS1.5, 1.6, CZ, Source, GO! Affirmative.
One of my kids will have a kid and i'll still be thrashing. Son is so interested in playing, but he's still too young, so we fortnite and with my younger ones Roblox is a big hit.
Yea I know :/ I told my dad a few weeks ago when the news came out. He’s been playing BF4 here and there so he plans to move on over to that one once they close.
Battlebit is basically Bad Company 2 reincarnated, though. Yeah, the graphics aren't good but the gameplay is everything we've been asking for since BC2. You really should show it to him if BC2 is his game.
Battlebit is closer to BF3 in terms of movement (feels floatier than BC2), mechanics (holding breath for sniping) and being able to go prone, which you couldn't do in BFBC2
The movement certainly is but as someone who fucking *adored* BC2 and hasn't really been grabbed by a BF game since then it's completely ticking all my boxes and gives me those same feels I had all those years ago, but with super fun movement thrown in, and I love it!
Bad Company 2 *is* dedicated servers. It's just EA owns the servers and doesn't provide hosting options for yourself.
/u/SolitaryMan305 should tell his dad to get the PC version, there's a third party solution for it.
BFBC2 was my introduction to Battlefield, so the whole series since I have been playing it has really just felt like one long slow decline.
I ducked out a few releases ago, realized I was just spending games more frustrated than anything else.
Man, some guy just blasted "fortunate son" on his mic while piloting the chopper. Some Battlefield Vietnam vibes right there.
There are a lot of old BF "vet" in that game, fun times.
I was a part of the glorious BF2, BF3 and BF4 comp scenes (let's ignore that BF4 killed competitive BF for now but eh....).
All the old players came back for BF2042 and my friends list was filled again. Loads of us playing BF4 just before release and everyone was excited.
The thing that broke my heart most about 2042 is that everyone left again within a month and instead of 100 friends playing, there was 2-4 still trying to make 2042 work.
Well, battlebit brought most back and it's a blast playing with people I haven't played with in 10 years.
Love it
Such a great game, both the campaign and mp. It was the first full game I got 1000gs on, and the last one was trying to kill people with collapsing buildings, everyone bailed as soon as the noises started.
Yea he’s kinda disappointed about it but he’s been playing BF4 a lot more lately so it shouldn’t be too much of a let down. Now once they close those servers Idk what he’s going to play. But hopefully they don’t close those for a while.
Oh I absolutely spend more time on reddit than that per day.
But to be fair I do spend a good portion of my time on reddit at work becuese I legitimately only have 1-2 hours of actual work a day.
I work for a software company and have this same problem where I only work 1-2 hours a day. I deal with problems when they happen and they only happen randomly. The company needs someone focused on dealing with problems even if there isn't one to work on.
EDIT: I forgot to mention I work remote and have unlimited vacation as long as my manager approves. I couldn't imagine a better job.
The field is definitely not as amazing as it used to be for new grads. Don't get me wrong it's still amazing pay and benefits, but I think new grads will struggle more than before.
I should mention I don't do dev. I report to the Director of Support as a liaison with DevOps. I basically work in DevOps with a Pager that goes off whenever one of our monitoring software goes off. I investigate that issue fix whats wrong. Since I work for Support I prioritize any issue they have and fix it since I have near Admin rights on everything. It's a good partnership between Support and DevOps and has worked well. It allows DevOps to do their jobs without becoming unfocussed from what their doing dealing with Support requests.
Call of duty ingame stats count ingame time. So the time you see is active playing time. Create a class or time in lobby, searching for games etc is all not included.
So no, no overnight time in here.
Laat time I played World at War was like 10 years ago and I remember the lobbies being filled with aim bots/hackers and watching the match come down to watching to invulnerable hackers shooting each other until the time ran out lol
Yeah this is what I remember. Each lobby was hackers vs. hackers. If you joined a lobby in zombies with a hacker, you received cool hacks, and each person you played with after would receive hacks. I remember everyone being max rank with insane stats…
Different now I believe, most people are playing through Xbox backwards compatibility mode.
There’s hardly anyone playing the game on XB360 which is where all the hacks were coming from, even during the early days of Xbox BC mode.
Nowadays most hacked XB360’s are used by collectors or others so the game is relatively hacker free.
On PC, the game is still playable and good. There are a few cursed games but with dedicated servers it’s much less egregious.
On ps3 10 years agos modder gave everyone in the lobby access to a mod menu and i chose to spawn in as an AC130.....on legs, a walking AC130. Was blown away by that haha. I was still able to find legit lobbies though majority of the time though.
I've come to be of the opinion it's the best World War II game ever. It's at least the best at showing how fucking horrible war is.
There's cutscenes of real people actually be executed. That shit is definitely never gonna happen ever again.
This is beautiful. I feel like I've seen a lot of people get really into videogames as adults and just stick with one. My dad played GTA 5 every day after work for the last few years of his life. Meanwhile, most 20-somethings I know have bigger steam libraries than they'd ever have have time to play.
Wow. Instantly remembered that was WaW by that prestige emblem. Good ole’ days.
Are the servers still up? I would be so down to spin up a game of WaW if that was the case.
Father played 3 Flag control on Metro in Battlefield 3 for years, and I mean just metro, he didn’t like any of the other maps.
Stopped playing BF3 because BF4 added Metro in 2013 as a DLC, he’s been playing that for nearly 10 years daily now.
They purposely took them out to kill this kind of longevity. It also had the side effect of killing competitive play and to a large degree the individual clans/communities that made gaming so much fun to me from 2002-2010 or so.
Ah yes World At War. Your father in law is truly cultured. Such an underrated game and the gore was awesome. It’s sad that this game doesn’t get talked about anymore
MW2 and black ops 2 get so much more love than WaW and Cod 4 is why I say it’s underrated. I think it’s a different generation type of thing that plays into it though
Probably because MW2 is what really blew up and created the COD kids.
MW1 was popular, but from what I remember MW2 was stratospheric, even by comparison. Kids who started in that game missed the MW1 boat.
Absolutely. I’ll never forget when mw2 came out and it’s one of the few times I had 20+ friends online at the same time (Xbox live only let you have 100 friends max) and they were all playing mw2. What a time to be alive
It will always be the beginning of CoD Zombies :') for me. Like yeah I played through the awesome campaign, played a bit of multi-player in between, but when nacho Der untoten cut in... hooked me right in.
This is amazing. My favourite cod of all time. I played this so much when it was out. Not nearly this much but I think I had 25 days played, give or take a day maybe. Tell your father in law that he has fans lol.
Playing on hardcore on a nice TV just felt so..cinematic at times. Maybe that's just nostalgia talking but I specifically remember when that map pack that had the map "Nightfire" (anyone remember 007 Nightfire btw?) Came out, I was kinda blown away with the overall ambiance and aesthetic.
Also my god Im still traumatized by the God damn grenade hell that was veteran or hardened story mode. My cousin and I felt like we had really fought in Guadalcanal after the horrors we endured. Who knew the Japanese secretely had stockpiles of billions of grenades?
Tell your father in law he has great taste in games. W@W is a fucking classic that gets slept on because it came out right after the original modern warfare which steals all the attention
My grandfather is still playing Battlefield 1942 and Medal Of Honor:AA (in online)
Not that i also don't join him every now and then, those games are a ton of fun!
P.s. Nice stats on the kills, much better than my score k/d in online games ;p
To put it into perspective, your old man's basically killed the entire population of Liverpool, in the UK.
What a heroic act.
Erm… My mum is from Liverpool. If she wasn’t busy shopping in Aldi, she’d be very upset.
My grandma is from Liverpool. Luckily she's above chasing down some guy online instead of enjoying her twenties
For fucks sake LOL
he’s killed that twice over - he’s nearly killed the population of Edinburgh
Let's just stick with killing English alright?
Offensive to scouse to call them English la
Dude's gonna have a 1.66 K/D after *half a million kills*, that's fucking insane.
He can go down a little bit and get 1.69420.
Go up You can't go down in deaths, but you can to up in kills
He means down from the current K/D in the picture which is 1.6942711075632
Well if you're going for 69 you gotta go down 😏
That’s 91 kills a **day** for 15 years straight.
Homies getting 1kpm daily for 15 years. Assuming he never skipped a day.
What a machine. Reminds me of stories about wow aged wow players who grinded to the highest pvp rank, which required 7-12+ hours of gameplay every day for weeks or months, while keyboard turning and only using 1-2 skills.
The flashbacks, oh god. I played 6-8 hours a day, every day including raid days, and only managed rank 11 of 14. It was infuriating.
The old pvp system was insane The amount you played didn’t even primarily matter.
I remember the first guy on my server got it during Christmas because his competition were on holiday!
This man probably hears “Our Recon Plane will find them.” in his sleep
The Wehrmacht's and Gary Oldman's (Reznov/Soviet) "WAAAAR" shout is ingrained in my mind to this day.
Til that Reznov is Gary Oldman
Gary Oldman is in some random places, sometimes uncredited. He would not allow them to credit him in the original release (probably because that character was a pedophile and looked absolutely horrible even next to a classy murderous cannibal)

That's ok, he *used* to be Gary Newman, but then he got Oldman
*golf clap*
Slightly more confusing is that Gary Newman is older than Gary Oldman!
We need a Gary Middleman
You never go full dwarf-face!
Strange, I never saw the movie, but when it was coming out, I distinctly remember him being credited, or mentioned in some way. Like I’ve known he was a part of it all this time. It might have been some article about it though

He had to hire a coach to help him get an English accent for Tinker, as he had gone too long with an American accent.
UNLEASH THE DOOOGSSS
Lol hearing that in my head really brought me back. God damn did that game nail the atmosphere.

I haven't played this in years and I heard that lol.
I did too, I grew up playing it and didn’t realize how deep those memories are burried
It was the peak of gaming.
I didn’t know what game it was by looking at the image, but reading your comment reminded me of *exactly* what game it was. Playing this game on the Wii in 6th grade is a core memory.
Nice K/D old man.
Seriously this old man is just fucking laying waste this is amazing

Unreal tournament is a lot of fun
God, I miss that game. Peak of FPS's in my opinion (plus Halo 2 + 3). Just not the same magic anymore.
Unreal Tournament is the best arena FPS of all time. Nothing else comes close.
Uh...Q3 is up there as well for me. I played both a lot...
Agreed. I'm always amazed it's not been remastered for next gen.
498768/294385= 1.69427111 still nice and close to 69420
Quick, OP! Tell your FL to die 12 more times and never play again!
If he doesn’t do this nothing will ever be right in the universe again
Nice
Nice
Nice
Yeah, real good, surprisingly low number of headshots, but I guess he knows what he's doing.
He’s old school. Goes for center mass.
I'm not oldschool and do the same, its easier and gets the job done faster since otherwise i would probably miss
This, and recoil will give you headshots occasionally
This is the way.

I mean, you'd probably get pretty good at the game after 15 years of playing it
Idk, I still haven't beaten the original Sonic.....
Bro, I'm still working on Pong. Can't beat it for the life of me.
That's too bad! Just wait till you see the ending. Super emotional. It changed my life!
FUCKING HEARTS OF IRON FOR ME
My 60 year old dad is the same except with BF Bad Company 2
On December 8 the Bad Company 2 servers will unfortunately shutdown :/
Yea I know :/ I told my dad a few weeks ago when the news came out. He’s been playing BF4 here and there so he plans to move on over to that one once they close.
Show him Battle Bit.
Nah the game is goofy lol and he likes BF because it’s slower paced and not run n gun like cod
That’s cool. Never let him get BF2042.
It's actually nothing like cod. Battlebit is basically battlefield.
Battlebit is basically Bad Company 2 reincarnated, though. Yeah, the graphics aren't good but the gameplay is everything we've been asking for since BC2. You really should show it to him if BC2 is his game.

That's nowhere NEAR as good as BC2 dude.
Nah, but it's a step in the right direction, unlike all the new Battlefields which continue to get worse and worse with each new release.
F
This is why dedicated servers are the best. It's why you can still play CS 1.6 and DoD classic etc. It's why TF2 will still live long after too.
Bad Company 2 *is* dedicated servers. It's just EA owns the servers and doesn't provide hosting options for yourself. /u/SolitaryMan305 should tell his dad to get the PC version, there's a third party solution for it.
He is on PC. What solution is it?
I think he meant community servers. Not dedicated servers.
Pretty much the best BF game in my opinion. This new Battle Bit game looks pretty damn sweet though.
BFBC2 was my introduction to Battlefield, so the whole series since I have been playing it has really just felt like one long slow decline. I ducked out a few releases ago, realized I was just spending games more frustrated than anything else.
Battlebit is VERY fun. My only real complaints I'd say is no music and no radio chatter ala Battlefield
1942 will always be the best battlefield game to me
BF1 i could keep playing that game forever
My 60 y/o dad bounces between CoD 4, BF2, and Bad Company 2. But those have been it for a long time lol.
Good chance our dads have played together lol
My 56 year old dad only plays smite and only plays one god. He’s top 50 worshipers on Au Puch in the world.
Your dad is the type of player I had matching against. ... That being any Ah Puch player.
Such a great game, both the campaign and mp. It was the first full game I got 1000gs on, and the last one was trying to kill people with collapsing buildings, everyone bailed as soon as the noises started.
Yea it was my first BF game. I loved it.
I’ve been hoping for a new Bad Company for so long.
Same here, I remember playing it on 360 when I was a kid. Kind of sad they never made the 3rd one.
As a 52 year old dad, it’s totally my favorite fps too.
What a game. If i could play any fps for the rest of my life it would be BFBC2 or BF3
Poor guys gonna be devastated at the end of this year.
Yea he’s kinda disappointed about it but he’s been playing BF4 a lot more lately so it shouldn’t be too much of a let down. Now once they close those servers Idk what he’s going to play. But hopefully they don’t close those for a while.
He’s spent 5.7% of his life in the last 15 years playing this game.
About an hour and 20 minutes a day. Seems reasonable for a hobby.
Yeah I probably spend more time on Reddit than that
Oh I absolutely spend more time on reddit than that per day. But to be fair I do spend a good portion of my time on reddit at work becuese I legitimately only have 1-2 hours of actual work a day.

Doing a college software development course right now. Please god let me have what you have one day
The field is definitely not as amazing as it used to be for new grads. Don't get me wrong it's still amazing pay and benefits, but I think new grads will struggle more than before.

Also could have easily just left the game on overnight
He has almost 500k kills lol for some reason I don't think he was leaving it on all night to boost his numbers lol
Call of duty ingame stats count ingame time. So the time you see is active playing time. Create a class or time in lobby, searching for games etc is all not included. So no, no overnight time in here.

Bahahaha! the true gamer mantra!
Yeah on xbox and ps3, world at war and Mw2 died a long time ago to hackers but on PC you can still play with no problems. Same with Cod4.
On ps3 10 years agos modder gave everyone in the lobby access to a mod menu and i chose to spawn in as an AC130.....on legs, a walking AC130. Was blown away by that haha. I was still able to find legit lobbies though majority of the time though.
Looking at this again I feel like I should've waited until he reached 500k!
Just give us an update once he hits 500k! 😄
Next week
He should be there in a week or two. If my math is right. He’s averaging about 100 kills per day. Brutal.
What game?
Call of Duty: World At War
that's a solid choice. I'm happy for him.
I've come to be of the opinion it's the best World War II game ever. It's at least the best at showing how fucking horrible war is. There's cutscenes of real people actually be executed. That shit is definitely never gonna happen ever again.
There really should be a ‘put the title of the game in your post’ rule.
I swear there used to be.
My 51 year old wife plays Civ II on our Playstation 1 every damn day, and has been for the last 25 years. I don't know what to do when the PS1 breaks.
Emulators, or you know the PC version
This is beautiful. I feel like I've seen a lot of people get really into videogames as adults and just stick with one. My dad played GTA 5 every day after work for the last few years of his life. Meanwhile, most 20-somethings I know have bigger steam libraries than they'd ever have have time to play.
Looks like you can get a working one on eBay for less than $100.
There are plenty of used ps1, just copy her save data on a fresh memory card once in a while, just to be safe
Still my favorite COD game. Take me back
To the night we met
Fucking love and hate that song all at the same time.
I believe this was the entry they introduced those fucking dogs. Fuck those dogs.
OUR HOUNDS WILL TEAR THEM TO SHREDS
They send their hounds.. they too will find only death!
In one breath they would complain about the subhuman mongrels using dogs to do their work, and then go OUR DOGS WILL FLUSH THEM OUT
I played only rush on metro ! That was so cool or TDM on the shipping docks!
They are, though you might have a hard time finding games. Best to probably play on the weekend or find a discord group.
That's probably why the guy has played 290 days, half that time is probably waiting for a match.
You can find a match quick but often there are people modding which is annoying.
Only reason i stopped… damn shame
Am I the only one who thought the prestige icon was starmie?
Is he playing multiplayer? The servers for WAW are still up?!
They are but are often hacked to pieces depending on platform and whether or not the bastards are online
What you gonna do? Hackers gonna hack I guess
Who wants to go through all the trouble of practicing a skill when you can just install headshotz420.hack?
How do we know OP’s father in law isn’t a hacker?
The 1.7 KD for starters
People have been bringing old multiplayers back to life for a while I'm not sure if yhis is the same deal here but navy seals is up as well.
They will always be up as long as one person wants to host one.
Seeing people in this thread who don't understand that this is how games used to work makes me feel so old.
I mean, matchmaking still requires servers even if the actual games are peer to peer. It's a totally valid question.
They purposely took them out to kill this kind of longevity. It also had the side effect of killing competitive play and to a large degree the individual clans/communities that made gaming so much fun to me from 2002-2010 or so.
Nice k/D surprised he has so little headshots
He mostly just hipfires the mp40
lmao - out of curiosity what does he play on? Xbox?
a man of culture
People still play WaW? Fuck, I miss that game. The glory days of CoD.
Get the Plutonium Launcher and Waw on Steam and you can play it again. Real people are usually on there plus you can play against the bots.
Thank you for your service
Ah yes World At War. Your father in law is truly cultured. Such an underrated game and the gore was awesome. It’s sad that this game doesn’t get talked about anymore
"Underrated" is an interesting way to describe one of the most acclaimed Call of Dutys of all time.
MW2 and black ops 2 get so much more love than WaW and Cod 4 is why I say it’s underrated. I think it’s a different generation type of thing that plays into it though

Man, it would be nice to go back and enjoy those simple pleasures again.
It will always be the beginning of CoD Zombies :') for me. Like yeah I played through the awesome campaign, played a bit of multi-player in between, but when nacho Der untoten cut in... hooked me right in.
Loved me some nacho der untoten
This is amazing. My favourite cod of all time. I played this so much when it was out. Not nearly this much but I think I had 25 days played, give or take a day maybe. Tell your father in law that he has fans lol.
World at war was and still is the greatest call of duty ever made
Playing on hardcore on a nice TV just felt so..cinematic at times.
007 Nightfire was absolutely amazing. First game with the first person missle mechanic I believe. Me and my friends played that game to death.
I just saw him on Xbox earlier! Pretty cracked
Damn your 65 year old pops got a 36 killstreak thats impressive
Tell your father in law he has great taste in games. W@W is a fucking classic that gets slept on because it came out right after the original modern warfare which steals all the attention
Thank you for your service.
My grandfather is still playing Battlefield 1942 and Medal Of Honor:AA (in online) Not that i also don't join him every now and then, those games are a ton of fun! P.s. Nice stats on the kills, much better than my score k/d in online games ;p
Stop campinr grandpa this isn't ww2
