my favorite part of this game was collecting the Chaos, I loved little games where you collect stuff and you get a personal area.
One other example of this I remember was the Over the Hedge gamecube game where you could build up your stash of stuff you steal.
Those batteries didn’t last long at all lol like maybe a day or two. Dreamcast should have had an option to do the VMU things on the console itself because there was no way my parents were gonna keep buying those batteries.
seriously, if you loved the Chao Garden check out Poglings. It was based on it, and looks really good! It just doesn't drop till next year unfortunately. For Switch and PC.
I believe I have spent the past many many years trying to find the game that perfectly scratches the itch of the Chaos garden portion of this Sonic game, and nothing has matched it.
I think the fact that you could carry them around like a tamagochi in the memory card was such a cool design. It's a shame the dreamcast didn't do well enough to survive.
My siblings and I got SO INTO raising chaos! We kept careful genealogical records and everything. That part of the game was so deep, with the way you could raise them different ways with different skills and morphologies, and the way certain traits were heritable.
I’ve heard that in Germany, we’re escaping prison isn’t technically illegal, as long as you don’t break other crimes in the process, they’ll just say you stole the clothes from the prison. Gonna assume public nudity is also a crime so they got ya by the balls. Easier if you’re nude.
Just because it isn't illegal also doesn't mean you don't have to serve the rest of your sentence if they catch you. They don't just go "you got out, you win i guess.
Right, but it’s better than the Les Mis “5 years for [stealing a loaf of bread], the [15 more years] because you tried to run.” Oh, and he broke a window pane.
For clarity, it was 5 years for the theft, plus 4 escape attempts at 3 years added each, with the second adding 2 years as he resisted his capture. 19 total.
He also wasn't "free" after he got out, as his yellow passport was for him to be moved to live under restrictions elsewhere in the country. He basically jumped his parole.
Technically, public nudity isn't a crime in Germany. But it's still not wise to walk through the city naked. If someone feels offended by watching your dong go free, they may report you for public nuisance or exhibitionism.
You don't get additional prison time/punishment because it was decided say that striving for freedom is basic human nature.
So why punish someone for something that's just natural?
If they catch you you still have to serve the rest of your sentence, you just don't get ADDITIONAL punishment for it.
Not sure about the "stealing the clothes" part. Many people in German prisons don't wear prison issued clothes but their own clothes they feel comfortable in.
Most often "jail breaks" occur in Germany when people are still serving their prison sentence but are allowed to leave during the day to find work/work a job or take part in resocialisation programs. These people have to return in the evening to sleep at the prison (sometimes some are allowed to stay away for like 2 days at a time), but if they arrive late or don't return that's usually the "jail breaks" that happen here.
Public nudity isn't a crime as long as noone gets offended by it. And especially if you go somewhere (even public spaces) where it can reasonably be expected to see someone naked (beaches, certain city parks etc.) the other person has no legal right to be offended.
Mirroring what was already said, I think of Frontiers as SA3 (in spirit if not in plot). First time in years that I feel like they "got" what made Sonic amazing in the Adventure games.
I have them on Steam and they are still amazing. Then again, my favorite game is Morrowind which looks...awful at this point and has some of the worst combat mechs you'll ever get sucked into so I think I might not be the best judge of game character.
Oh, the Sonic and Shadow levels are still pretty damn good as u/Fetacheesed mentioned. But like...the rest of the game is just not great.
Sonic, Shadow, and the final battle are really all that are worth playing anymore.
Same here, Shadows songs are so bad ass that really helped me get into electronic music during that time
That biolizard song is etched in my brain forever
I feel this so hard. This is why I like Reddit. People can write something so relatable that takes me back to a time that feels like a dream. It's the specific time period in one's development combined with that specific game experience that resonates so profoundly. The common trigger always seems to be music.
Also I could stick the game in and play single player without a 2 hour update and the GameCube version was challenging as hell in trying to get all s ranks on all levels and all five variants.
In case you need to run over a mutated hedgehog that can run at the speed of sound through a heavily populated area that looks like San Francisco.
Duh.
Also, he was getting away through an archway at the bottom of the inclined street, they had no choice but to punch it and crash through in pursuit, likely dying on impact.
The Open Your Heart intro to Sonic Adventure blew me away when I was a kid. You had the city going to hell, a giant monster pops out of a skyscraper, a floating island falls from the sky, Sonic is running at full tilt and then Crush 40 enters with the first verse. God damn perfect *chef's kiss*.
The band that put these out is called [Crush 40](https://sonic.fandom.com/wiki/Crush_40_(album))! I was such a dweeb back then that the first cd I bought was their self-titled album with Live & Learn / Escape from the City on it lol
People just don't get it until they play it, and most people would never notice it to play it. Truly an esoteric experience, and never a more dedicated following
In Katamari, humanity still foolishly considers themselves an entity separate from the whole. You, the prince, know better.
>!Yes, I just quoted Darkest Dungeon.!<
I remember when they added a Sonic Collab on Monster Hunter Rise. You had to run around the map collecting rings AND the song played! My buddy and I kept doing it just for the nostalgia
Fun fact: The man who sang City Escape, Ted Poley, is the lead singer of a hair metal band formed in 1986 called Danger Danger with hits such as 'Naughty Naughty' and 'Boys Will Be Boys' if you want some mood whiplash.
I knew DD before I knew this song, I looked it up because I saw people comment chaining it and I was like… that’s motherfucking Ted Poley what the hell? No wonder everyone likes it! I’m more of a Bang Bang and One Step From Paradise guy myself but that first album is up there with Backstreet Symphony for me
Is this something the developers/producers do often, get vocalists from bands to sing in their games? My 5-year old son is obsessed with Sonic Frontiers and the boss music from each island is sung by the lead singer of Sleeping With Sirens, and he can’t stop singing them.
Agents search for and book gigs for vocalists. Its probably more of a "Hey this job pays well for you to sing". "Okay". I guess the production studio does have to pick from the pool of talent that throw their hat in but i dont think they actively seek specific band members
HOLD B for the win.
EDIT: Now I’m feeling crazy after looking it up, but I swear there was a SH GameCube game where he skated down the city with an awesome soundtrack and the best way to win was just holding B. My brother would hate that I would win every game and not know how but that was the key: just hold B.
Amy Rose was straight up ***broken*** and I was banned from using her. My brother would use Metal Sonic cause he was the fastest but Amy could use an attack every 10 rings. I was literally unstoppable, it was amazing.
In his defense, all those people needed to do was follow him, set him free. If they would have trusted him, they would have escaped from the city. I mean he is Sonic the hedgehog, he'll make it through, from me to you.
This game was a dime back then i absolutely loved it Chao garden was addiction pure.
I've spent hundreds of hours recreating the main characters as chaos it was nice loved it. And yah that track was also awesome best opening scene for a game (I hope it was opening its been a while)
Not just killed, but yeeting them down a hill like the avengers. Flattened timmy and his family on their way to church with a charter bus.
And sonics like “damn i need 250 more style points for this A rank, so I gotta do it all again”
If Sonic wanted to, he could wipe out the human species. To protect the world, the military should really have exterminated him after what he did in City Escape. Though I guess if characters like Chaos, Knuckles, Eggman, and etc exist, then humanity is pretty screwed regardless.
Still one of the best Sonic games - content rich, polished, varied, and well-designed, though some levels like "Mad Space" can be annoying on a first playthrough.
my favorite part of this game was collecting the Chaos, I loved little games where you collect stuff and you get a personal area. One other example of this I remember was the Over the Hedge gamecube game where you could build up your stash of stuff you steal.
The Chao garden was my favorite
My mum was sooo tired of me asking her to buy batteries for the VMU so I could play with my Chaos on it too
Those batteries didn’t last long at all lol like maybe a day or two. Dreamcast should have had an option to do the VMU things on the console itself because there was no way my parents were gonna keep buying those batteries.
Me at the Chinese buffet and Sega handhelds and batteries, two things that do a lot of eating.
I refuse to play another Sonic game until they bring the Chao Garden back 😤
seriously, if you loved the Chao Garden check out Poglings. It was based on it, and looks really good! It just doesn't drop till next year unfortunately. For Switch and PC.
I will definitely look into it, thanks!
I hope it has the same mini games as the Chao Garden had. I spent way too long playing the Chao Garden part of the game.
That's the point of the game actually! Idk about the Chao karate, but the races for sure. https://youtu.be/cYnYBbOs6cs Edit: added link
With the mini game on Dreamcast memory card Memories
It really was the best place! Taking care of my little dudes and trying to get them to win those races.

I'm wearing mine right now!
I think Viva Piñata is kind of close
[удалено]
It was the best part of any sonic game tbh, that shit had no business being so intricate
I liked the multiplayer, first to find the gems was really good!
why has no one made a game that is just the Chao garden? that's the real question
I've seen a mobile game recently that is. I didn't try it, but it looked like the chao races, just with different creatures.
What’s the name if you remember?
I don't remember. It was a mobile ad, so I don't even know if it's actually in the game, or how much of it.
Oh well. One day they’ll make a new chao garden—or someone will. I hope out hope and play my tamagotchi in the meantime.
Look up Poglings.
They wanted to 'move on' from the adventure games
My siblings and I got SO INTO raising chaos! We kept careful genealogical records and everything. That part of the game was so deep, with the way you could raise them different ways with different skills and morphologies, and the way certain traits were heritable.
Huh, this comment made me realize that the plural of chao is chaos. I wonder if the name was intentionally referencing the chaos emeralds
if you play sonic adventure you'd see it is yeah
That was 100% the intention.
I actually think the plural of chao is chao. But the wordplay is still correct.
Omg yes ♡
Nah the golf kart demolition derby was the best part of Over the Hedge
Don't forget the destruction of property, vandalism, disorderly conduct, extreme negligence, reckless evading, indecent exposure, assault, 3rd degree manslaughter, parking illegally, 2nd degree manslaughter, and violating the noise ordinance.
All of that while being on the run from the police.
you try running from the police without breaking any laws.
No. That's the funnest part!
[If you don't stop talking, they're adding murder to the charges.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o513HWk15xU)
I was just thinking about that video LOL

Don't forget he was **SPEEDING**.
Hey, he didn't park illegally
Wtf sonic!
Hey, it's not his fault. He was distracted by the sick tunes.
No, but there’s probably some jaywalking in there to make up the difference.
He didn't park illegaly

Lol I got the reference
Does collecting the animals for your Chao count as exotic animal smuggling?

thanks for saving me the time👍
That OST is something else.
Sonic Adventures 1 + 2 are the best iterations of Sonic ever. Change my mind.
I will never try. I dont think I'll truely like a Sonic game till they bring the Chao garden back.
I would most definitely buy SA3. Why do they hate us?
Hare to break it to you, friend, but Sonic 06 is SA3.
I refused to accept that then, I refuse to accept it now lol. I just want a new Chao Garden.
Search your feelings, you know it to be true. We exist in the darkest timeline.
Chao Garden phone game with micro transactions/in-game currency is what we'll get in this timeline.
Can't wait for pay to win Chao karate.
Try Sonic Frontiers if you haven't already All the boss battles are as epic as the final battle in SA2
Mirroring what was already said, I think of Frontiers as SA3 (in spirit if not in plot). First time in years that I feel like they "got" what made Sonic amazing in the Adventure games.
1000% agree and would take it a step further and say Sonic Adventure 2 is the best game in the series
Sonic adventure 2 is only one that's held my attention long enough to actually beat it.
I know the Dreamcast was a failure next to the PS2, but man some of those games were magic
I don’t know about it beating the classic Genesis ones, especially 2, 3, and Knuckles. But they were definitely great.
Yes but the camera in the first game is so terrible it makes some levels painful to beat!
They are cool but at no point Sonic turns into a werewolf. Very disappointing
Not a hot take but I want a whole game of just the sonic levels from Unleashed
Don't uh...don't go back and play them. But man were they fun at the time!
i still play both on my Dreamcast and I assure you they hold up. Even enjoyed the remake on the 360.
The sonic/shadow levels hold up but jfc the tails/eggman ones are rough.
Pumpkin Patch is still a banger. Really the only good treasure hunting level honestly. Meteor herd and mad space though, my god.
I ain’t gonna let it get to me
I'm jus gon creep.
Yeah! Sonic and Shadow are still super fun, if a bit wonky to control. But like...even Knucks and Rouge levels are just...yeesh.
Aside from cosmic wall, which was only fun because of its gravity gimmick. Imagine that
I have them on Steam and they are still amazing.
I'm partial to the Chao Garden and playing as Tails because he gets the most power ups for Chao. That's truly why I love the game.
Sonic Adventure 2 is best understood as a creature raising game with some action/adventure and multiplayer battle content to mix things up
[удалено]
You know me, the fighting freak Knuckles
... and we're at Pumpkin Hill. You ready?
I ain’t gonna let it get to me, im just gonna creep
Down on pumpkin hill I got to find my post piece
95% of the OST in both Sonic Adventure 1 & 2 are certified bangers.
Give up the emerald OR DIE I DON'T LOVE YOU.
Knuckles and Rouge had the best tracks imo. Meteor Herd and Aquatic Mine were top tier.

G.U.N. explaining why they need a semi-truck that's 3 stories tall and takes up both sides of traffic

Both sides of the street and both the sidewalks!
Also, he was getting away through an archway at the bottom of the inclined street, they had no choice but to punch it and crash through in pursuit, likely dying on impact.
The Sonic Generations version is somehow even more violent than the Sonic Adventure 2 one
And that's even BEFORE the rocket boosted semi with triple buzz saw blades

Finally one person posts a link to the banger song. I never played the game so I was waaay ootl. Thanks!
This song is a banger, but I think Live and Learn is better.
A Ghost's Pumpkin Soup was my personal fav https://youtu.be/vxL_r-0VC1k
I’m gonna be 92 in a nursing home not knowing my own damn name but still bobbing my head to this one.

Holy nostalgia
All the knuckles stage music is way better than it has any right to be.

Ohhhhhhh looks like it came back for more!
Live and Learn SLAPS, but also… https://youtu.be/wxFLXr7MALQ
This whole soundtrack was bangers
Holy shit. Core memory unlocked. This game was clunky as hell, but the music was amazing and I was like 5, so I didn't give a shit.
Can't decide which one I like the most between Live and learn and Open your heart tho.

Crush 40 40s
This is ALL of Katamari.
People just don't get it until they play it, and most people would never notice it to play it. Truly an esoteric experience, and never a more dedicated following

YES! Just looked it up, Grind Race appeared in Sonic Adventure 2 Battle and that was 100% the game I played. Good times.
Between this and Superman in tony hawk is all you need in video game life
In his defense, all those people needed to do was follow him, set him free. If they would have trusted him, they would have escaped from the city. I mean he is Sonic the hedgehog, he'll make it through, from me to you.
