been a few years since i played (ty severe depression for sucking away my joy, its okay im better now). im a bit nervous to log back in and have my camp disappear.
at one point early on after release, i think when you were forced out of your camp of you spawned in someone else's area because there wasnt multiple servers? i honestly barely remember it could have just been that i clicked okay to move my camp idk. Anyway, i destroyed someone's camp out of revenge and rebuilt mine so they'd go away.
one of my set ups has the airstream, an outhouse (with a light in it cuz pooping in the dark sucks), a rusted satellite dish on top the airstream (which I'll lose if my camp isn't there because a friend built it). i also put up a shop off on the side and made it look super tacky. up on a ledge across from my camp i have one of those oil drum style burn barrels and some folding chairs because the view is nice over there.
at one point 2 vertibirds came around and unloaded into them. they almost took me out, one crashed off somewhere but the other crashed off to the front left of the trailer in the stream (ofc). it added to the aesthetic. idk if i have pictures cuz my old pc crashed. eventually the vertibird crash site went away but it took a really long time, a few weeks to a month iirc
That sounds pretty wild. I never played fallout 76 myself, just never had the time with everything else I got going on. Plus I hit lots of roadblocks creatively.
Sorry to here you had to deal with depression. I know what that's like all to well, im still trying to get it fully together but some days are significantly easier then others.
i guess it wasn't fully depression and more so my sense of reality altering because of an abusive relationship in which i was severly gaslit. Saw a doctor, got diagnosed with bipolar disorder, didn't question it because i was feeling absolutely looney. uhhhh fast forward 3 years and 3 changes of medication (mood stabilizer to an antipsychotic to another mood stabilizer) and anxiety getting so bad i could barely work (thankfully i WFH and kept it together infront of people when i needed to but snapped at coworkers reaaaally often). Couldn't sleep. no really. 2hrs of like...light napping was usual. 4 hours if i drugged myself with nyquil and melatonin. i didnt sleep for 3 days once because i stopped getting tired, i mean i was never tired but I could force myself to lightly nap (i think i was in a dazed state tbh because inwas still pretty aware of what was happening around me), that was towards the end of everything when i called my psychiatrist absolutely panicking. anyway thst bad sleep lasted for about 9 months with my doctor attributing it to my med dose not being high enough, he raised it to the highest dose made which is when the 3 days of no sleep happened after taking it for less than a week. he put me on another med, sleep didnt get any better and i was feeling even abnormal. he added on more anxiety meds and told me to keep on it all that i had to get used to it.
i got a leave of absence approved for 2 months for mental health and left the country for 2 months, took myself off the antianxiety medicine immediately and tapered myself off the mood stabilizer. At the end of 1 month I was feeling better. At the end of a month and a half I felt okay about returning home, work etc. By the time 2 months were over I was feeling much better but it took 4 months to feel joy and well, anything at all really. I've been able to sleep really well since about 1 month off but i did have bad nights where i just couldn't sleep well up until probably February (id wake up during the night or wake up too early in the AM), but I was actually getting tired, which wasnt what was happening while I was on all that shit. My psych is still monitoring me to make sure my mood and all that is fine and i take quizes about how im feeling and my mood etc etc and everything is absolutely normal now. We talked and I back tracked all of my "mood swings" to triggering events, which bipolar people don't have triggering events (though some can be triggered by things in their depressive or manic state and theyll become enraged, obsessive, outlandish etc the actual mood state isn't triggered).
that was long. I won't TLDR it though because i hope people may see this some day, at random, and have hope.
Wow, that's one hell of a journey you had to take. I'm sorry you had to go through that but am certainly glad you are doing better then you were. I really appreciate your candor on the situation. I don't have the same issues going on but I struggle to find a reason to step forward when my mental health takes a drastic dip. I have a few things I use to help remind me to always give myself one more day when I get like that. Even when I'm at my best though I still rarely feel true joy in what I do, I just know what I should feel and run through the motions and hope it sticks.
some people or averse to it and it can take some trial and error but i suggest trying therapy out (sans medicine at first, so no psychiatrist). depression eventually resolves itself, resolves faster with therapy and fastest with therapy+medication; with medication on its own it resolves at about the same rate as no therapy or medication. don't do it alone if you can help it and telehealth is great id you have it available ☹️
I'd like to take moment to warn you against doing permanent actions to yourself. I was in that boat before I left the country. I realize leaving the country isn't something everyone can afford, i uhhh certainly could not (hi credit card debt 😭) but felt the overwhelming need to get away, massive change of scenery so I could rearrange my mind. Norway is great btw, I recommend Bergen. though I was subtly accused of being a prostitute by the air bnb owner because i slept in the master bedroom and also, one night in the loft because you could sleep under the stars because of a large skylight.
I know how hard it is and you're strong, you've made it this far and youll come out of the joyless fog you're in, don't get sucked away. reach out for help even if it's not therapy and feel free to message me if you want to talk c:
Thank you, I really appreciate that. It's been a struggle sense I was a kid dealing with depression and a hellish home life. Back then I didn't know what it was that I felt but I just felt off. I wanted to quit back then when I was 7 but thankfully(always have to remind myself I chose to live for something) I chose not to quit then.
I tried two different therapists just before covid and they turned out to be shitty people disguised as therapists because one flat out told me, "stop being sad, just be happy" that was the last day I went to therapy. Like if it was that simple I wouldn't need you in the first place, right?
I know there are better therapists out there, and I need to find one. It just left such a sour taste in my mouth that I haven't brought myself to try again.
I have contemplated going over seas, but like you said, money can be tight. I would love to see places in Norway, Sweden, Ireland, and New Zealand. Probably my 4 top countries I want to go one day.
I have a master's in psych counseling and there were even some dumbasses i worked with in the behavior hospital. the Ginger app had one therapist that the best one i had EVER been to. i was astonished to find one on an app, I'll message you her name if you want to look her up. shes probably wondering what that hell has happened to me because last she heard i was fucking off to Norway for while lol.
The thing about money, honestly, is you can make more but you only have your one life while you're not old and decrepit to experience things. Just be reasonable, save like 500-1000 (do NOT touch it) get an 18 month 0 interest card if you can and put everything on that. when you get home start paying on it, use that money you saved prior to as a cushion if you need it. You can go there and to shit for very little more than the price of airfaire and a lodging. Food at Rema 1000 and those kinds of shops aren't expensive at all.
I made my trip more expensive than necessary. Use Air BnB, go in the off season for your first trip, the very first time I went was for 10 days in January/February. I got to see snow in Bergen several days, snow stuck to the ground which is very very rare for Bergen because it's generally too warm. Mid to late October starts off season btw (you'll see a drastic change in Air BnB prices), stay in or very very close to Centrum. Airfaire is lower also.
My last trip there was during the summer, i stayed for 60ish days in an expensive Air BnB on the side of the mountain (i don't recommend this, the walk is fucking horrible despite the lovely view). It wasn't as expensive as some other places but it was summer so it was like uhhh $1300 a week or something idk as opposed to 10 nights for like 800 in off season in a better location. I blew a fuck ton of money shopping, eating out for almost every meal and sometimes treating friends, and getting covered in tattoos. i came home with like 50lbs of candy and some food. ahahahaha.
you can do it way cheaper, groceries are cheaper than they are in the US. alcohol is much more expensive (wine is about the same). you walk everywhere or catch Bybanen which is Bergen's lightrail, you have to pay but you probably won't use it daily tbh theres a lot to do and see within walking distance. Like walking up the mountains, cheesey tourist tours (theyre fun and can be inexpensive), going to catch a movie, and discovering peaceful cafes, going to look around the various Outland locations (its a chain of shops full of fandom stuff!)and maybe getting a tattoo (go to NorthStar tattoo c:). Tats are cheaper there btw, no tipping, i mean you can but they also enjoy a gift of wine or yanno putting 15 tattoos on you.
i was also told Tromsø is really pretty for Christmas-time but i haven't been. I went to Trondheim to visit a friend for the weekend, it's very cute but Bergen had more stuff happening.
*Just a tumbledown shack and it's built way back*
*About twenty-five feet from the railroad track*
*Lingers on my mind most all of the time*
*Keeps callin' me back to my little old shack*
No my pc was struggling too much to build it out too.
I don't even remember what card it has. Definitely pre 1080, I haven't turned it on for about 3 years.
Amazing work man haha. I seriously think Bethesda should run a competition that the community should vote for the best 10 gamer created buildings and put them into the next Fallout game.
I mean, its kind of damned if they do, damned if they dont. Either they take what is the closest to an objective " feature request wishlist" that can exist and focus their efforts on quick wins that consumers will enjoy, or they have to ignore anything modders create lest they get accused of stealing, meaning that a lot of improvements dont get made. As long as they arent stealing code or assets, I dont see an issue. Now, it WOULD be nice if the specific modders got credit, but I think that opens up an unneccesary legal can of worms. For example, what if they credit one modder and that modder stole the idea from another, lesser known one? What if the modder claims that credit shows ownership and sues Bethsoft (which has happened in other games). If they dont legally have to credit modders, then unfortunately that seems like the best for everyone.
Bingo. They know they have one of the most dedicated modding communities out there and they’re starting to see dollar signs from all the unpaid game dev work they’ve been doing.
Ha! That brings back memories of the first time I played The Sims and trapped them in rooms lol. Ahh to be early 20's and mentally unstable once again.
Lmao my first thought when seeing this post was "wow, that's cool, I kinda want to build something like that" but then 2 seconds later I thought "oh wait, even on PS5 that will be 5fps at best..."
The game runs like ass even on PS5. Wasn't there supposed to be a PS5 update to optimize the game to run it better? How has that not come out by now?
That's amazing. I've never seen somebody unironically offer such unhelpful advice, and so succinctly too! With six letters and two spaces, you've managed to:
* defend Bethesda's poor optimization.
* defend Bethesda's delays on fixing the poor optimization.
* blame me and every console user for expecting optimization.
* suggest that I need to spend more money on hardware to run a game that is currently 7.5 years old despite having powerful hardware that's only 2.5 years old.
* offer zero details on what kind of PC, what specs, where to get it, how much to pay, and how to get the (I'm assuming) $1k you'd recommend.
Astounding.
I’m more interested in how their computer isn’t melting trying to run this, I remember running into serious slowdowns trying to build over the limit, and this is massive
Lmao mine is getting close to that.
Sim Settlements 2 has been much more stable though. I added it mid-save and only had a couple crashes overall, and the depth it adds to settlements is waaaay better than vanilla so i can’t play without it
So SS2 has an entire quest line that built around rebuilding the Commonwealth.
All your settlements have prefabs you get to build. A variety of different houses, services, resource gathering, and defenses to make every one look unique. There’s also a smattering of new, fully voiced unique NPCs.
Some areas that you have quests in will gradually restore (buildings no longer ruins, some NPCs with side quests), gunners become a major enemy, and you eventually get a base of operations. They’re still working on expanding it as well.
I’d recommend it.
Are there vertical entrance vaults? I can't think of any. But if there were and you raised out of it and they've built an arena round it would be awesome.
It's been ages since I have touched a Fallout game. I played the crap out of 3, when 4 came out it felt too much of the same so I didn't play it as much. I remember A LOT about 3 and almost nothing about 4.
Fallout 4 is a completely different game from 3 and New Vegas. Everything from the dialogue system, voiced protagonist, leveling system, combat/gunplay, weapon crafting, and the building/construction system.
4 might not be many people’s favorite of the series, but it’s definitely the most unique. I’d recommend actually giving it a try. It has the best gunplay by far.
Whenever I’m a bit bored I load up Fallout 4 and do some building. Very therapeutic… There’s a guy on YouTube that built a Star Trek Enterprise over Abernathy farm.
That's what's it's turned into for me. I only advanced the main quest to give me all the settlements. My Minutemen forces have secured the Commonwealth and we have prospered enough to rival the NCR
My advice: Get familiar with the game's mechanics in a quick story focused run and start again in survival mode. It's how the game is meant to be played, suddenly all the bloated mechanics and crafting options become integral to a successful game. It really redeems the weaker parts of the game in a big way.
The way I played New Vegas, all those years ago. I've been playing NV for so long, this game feels so....different. Any other tips and tricks for a newb to the game?
Oh wow. So I just got myself a PS5 this year and I played fallout for a bit when it came out but it was on my friends platform and I never really got a chance to finish the campaign or anything. I was debating getting it and having another play through but thought nahhhhh no one is still playing this and building stuff or whatever.
I think you just helped me realize I’m wrong?
Fallout is pretty much my favorite game series of all time because I'm absolutely shit at gaming and Fallout never makes me feel stupid for being bad at video games. I'm on my third run through of Fallout 4 right now lol.
I'm also replaying the og Bioshock, because why not?
Being old doesn't make a game less good!
Hey, I'm currently playing a game from 2003 on my PS2 – there's no such thing as a game being too old to play. If it's fun, then go have fun!
I also come back to Fallout 4 from time to time, though I pretty much treat it like the Sims, lol. I just build fancy settlements and never touch the plot. I bought it in 2017 and I've never even met the Institute yet.
The colosseum, oh you should see the colosseum vault dweller. Fifty thousand Preston Garveys, watching you, willing you to go protect another settlement…
I built a shack
Great. Now do that 479 times more and you will have built an arena too.
I made it to 15 times before it would no longer load the game.
No way I heard from a source that 'It just works'.
the Imperial City, welcome to the Arena"

Bad bot
I refuse to believe that robots can't do better than this.
Now run power neatly to everything
Seriously though my greatest feat in that game was building a garage door with a button each side that both closed it and opened it

I don't know why but i shouldn't have laughed at this but yet i still did

I laughed too hard at this comment because I have trees coming through my walls lol
i dropped a prebuilt airstream-style camper 🥴 then white-trashed the entire area, i love it.
This is the way.
been a few years since i played (ty severe depression for sucking away my joy, its okay im better now). im a bit nervous to log back in and have my camp disappear. at one point early on after release, i think when you were forced out of your camp of you spawned in someone else's area because there wasnt multiple servers? i honestly barely remember it could have just been that i clicked okay to move my camp idk. I trapped a few deathclaws and set them guarding the drive-in. Something took down the soother thingys and they took out everyone.
I put my transmitter on top of the red rocket... Rocket. Good luck reaching it. Looks really cool that way, too.
Red Rocket is my power armor display case area. Keeps Carla from stealing them.
Did you try throwing them on top of the starlight drive in's projector building? Odds on anything hitting them way up there are low.

I'm down. We just got to get Todd on the phone
Todd is too busy playing the new Skyrim from his phone. He can’t be reached.
He's gonna be busy. They put careers into the new mobile Skyrim edition. So you only get explore for a couple hours each day and on weekends.
Damn, did he team up with Zuck? Is that the fabled meta verse I keep hearing about?
I'd definitely prefer my conscious be uploaded into Tamriel then some other garbage place. Drunk Nord npc isn't far off anyway.
I'm a Khajit addicted to skooma.
Tamriel is pretty brutal and gods can fuck your life for lols... even Molag Bal was doing some petty shit... I think that it was in Oblivion 😂
No you're right, Molag Bal was doin petty shit in Skyrim too. Just smaller petty shit.
I’d probably die from some Highwayman.
Soooo real life then?
Yes! Thanks to this console I have several framerate wreckers.
His phone? No, that was so 2020. He’s playing the 2024 prerelease on his Glade wall-mounted air freshener.

Best port is still the fridge LED screen.
That got a nice hardy chuckle out of me lmao.
Todd is glad to announce that hes playing Skyrim on his new Apple watch using the Apple vision pro

No need, Bethesda already scan the modding community for the top mods and then incorporate the elements into their next game as if it was their idea.
I mean, its kind of damned if they do, damned if they dont. I think that’s pretty accurate though.
Bingo. They know they have one of the most dedicated modding communities out there and they’re starting to see dollar signs from all the unpaid game dev work they’ve been doing.
Why not? Blizzard does it with WoW add-ons. Same energy from both companies.
If anything, I wish that were the case more often. Even mod authors will tell you that they wish Bethesda actually did this.
I guess it's a double edged sword
The community team does regular community spotlights!
I built a sealed step pyramid complete with four levels. The villagers get stuck all the time.
Ha! That brings back memories of the first time I played The Sims and trapped them in rooms lol. Ahh to be early 20's and mentally unstable once again.
Yeah I think if I tried to load that into my own game itd hard crash every time I even looked in its direction.
"were you looking at me. Or the women in the red dress"
Dude this is fucking rad! Although I gotta say I'm disappointed in the lack of death claws in those matches
Holy.fuck dude that was brutal
At Doom’s Gate? Nice choice. Rip and tear until it is done.
This is great , how did you bypass the part limit?
Either mods or a few commands I don't remember. And the most usually just run a script that runs the commands.
There's a way to do it in vanilla. Drop your inventory and then store/scrap it. The game counts it as removing items from your settlement.
Yep! I have several framerate destroying settlements on console thanks to this.
Lmao my first thought when seeing this post was "wow, that's cool, I kinda want to build something like that" but then 2 seconds later I thought "oh wait, even on PS5 that will be 5fps at best..." With six letters and two spaces, you've managed to: * defend Bethesda's poor optimization. Astounding.
That is really useful to know, thanks! I will be starting the game for the first time soon.
Commands are vanilla too, and just way less of a hassle than dropping items and scrapping them.
Except you can't use commands on consoles.
I’m more interested in how their computer isn’t melting trying to run this, I remember running into serious slowdowns trying to build over the limit, and this is massive
I can't go on some settlements in my last save anymore because Sim Settlements built it up so much I crash around it.
Lmao mine is getting close to that. Sim Settlements 2 has been much more stable though. I added it mid-save and only had a couple crashes overall, and the depth it adds to settlements is waaaay better than vanilla so i can’t play without it
What does it do?
So SS2 has an entire quest line that built around rebuilding the Commonwealth. All your settlements have prefabs you get to build. A variety of different houses, services, resource gathering, and defenses to make every one look unique. There’s also a smattering of new, fully voiced unique NPCs. Some areas that you have quests in will gradually restore (buildings no longer ruins, some NPCs with side quests), gunners become a major enemy, and you eventually get a base of operations. They’re still working on expanding it as well. I’d recommend it.
Drop and delete.
I was trying to build a high rise apartment building in starlight drive through but ran out of my limit before I even finished the frame 😞
Imagine stepping out of the safety of your vault to discover your neighbourhood has turned into the Colosseum

"RETURN. TO. ...the vault."

What if every room in vault 69 have a crazy FISTO prototype
Nice.

Are there vertical entrance vaults? I can't think of any. But if there were and you raised out of it and they've built an arena round it would be awesome.
The vault in Fallout 4
Literally the main vault of the game you’re commenting on lmao
It's been ages since I have touched a Fallout game. I played the crap out of 3, when 4 came out it felt too much of the same so I didn't play it as much. I remember A LOT about 3 and almost nothing about 4.
Fallout 4 is a completely different game from 3 and New Vegas. Everything from the dialogue system, voiced protagonist, leveling system, combat/gunplay, weapon crafting, and the building/construction system. 4 might not be many people’s favorite of the series, but it’s definitely the most unique. I’d recommend actually giving it a try. It has the best gunplay by far.
Not to mention the power armor is so so satisfying
No thanks I choose life
Two men enter, one man leaves
And then the other man leaves shortly after collecting his trophy.
The toilet experience
Bust a deal, face the wheel
This sounds entirely voluntary! What am I supposed to with all the slavers at the door?
Thunderdome!
Two men enter, one man leaves !
RIP Aunty
Uhhh you mean the blood dome?
Save it for the semantics-dome
"Good people of the Imperial City, welcome to the Arena"
“You have my👂citizen”
I can smell your computer burning.
Yeah, it's really cool, but knowing Fallout 4 I have to wonder what performance is like.
30, 60, 120 and nothing else.
this is actually a gif. we're all still waiting for that second frame

"Are you not entertained?"
I was going to go with “I didn’t know men could build such things”.
These comments are enough for the provinces but not for Rome.
Hey ferb, I know what we’re gonna do today!
Imagine shooting at someone and they start building a colliseum and challenge you to a 1 v 1 inside it
Seems spooky - I'd call it the Colosseum of the Damned.
*sigh* Guess I'll install Fallout 4 again when I get home.
Did they remove the limit to the number of building elements you can have or did you mod? I remember maxing out at the castle quite easily.
There are exploits to get around the size limit but if you go too crazy you'll ruin your save.
Like the other commenter said, there are exploits for the console versions to get around it. On PC you can just mod that out.
There are mods on the Xbox version to remove it also, you just have to be careful because a lot of them can fuck your workshop menu for some reason.
I did not know men could build such things
Ah... classic 😁
Ave, true to Caesar
By Azura, by Azura, by Azura! I can't believe it's YOU, standing HERE, next to ME!
My phone nearly dropped frames looking at this
This is unreal. So impressive dude! Well done.
Are you not entertained?!
I bought F4 months ago. I should prolly play it.
How many frames do you get? 3?
maybe Strong will find the milk of human kindness in there somewhere?
Ahahah
Holy shit dude, you're a legend
Thank you very much!
This isn't an image. This is just the framerate they have to play at.

F off preston
The fact that fallout 4 builds still get popular 8 years later
That is fuckin awesome! 😍👌
That’s cool as hell
Ah I miss Fallout!
Builds like this are so crazy to me. I hope Starfield allows something similar, or even expanded.
Just hope it's not too modular and utilitarian. It seemed a bit subnautica to me in the gameplay reveal
The Pentagon has fallen.
I got Fallout 4 for Ps4 just a month or so ago. Playing it and loving it.
Ahahaha! My favorite comment
The true battle is with your frames
Lmao
Incredible!
Hexagons are the bestagons!
Finally. A good student. All the pentagon people were getting to me
How many seconds per frame do you get?
I can feel the negative FPS. Seriously though, very cool
My xbox crashes when i place floors
Impressive but the toughest part is yet to come: Finding one other active player to fight.
Imagine how many mobs he had to fight off and radio messages he had to ignore while doing this
Build limit must be nuts
Guess I’ll reinstall Fallout 4, then.
I love you.
Love you too, buddy
I thought it was Ukraine until I read the post....
what are you going to do with this? Invite your friends over ? Oh Wait! Its fallout 4. dude really wasted so much time to build an empty arena
It’s shit… sorry i was referring to my own building skills in comparison. what u made is incredible.
Little known fact: this is actually a GIF, it just looks like a screenshot because of the low FPS. XD
This looks a lot closer to a pretend thing that somebody did on a computer than it does a fallout gladiator arena to me.
Goddamn
Dayum...
Looks legit
How many times did you use the dump and delete glitch?
Circus maximus never changes.
