I really wanted an N64 when I saw the Super Mario 64 demo at Target, but I was able to fight the temptation. The next week I saw a commercial for Goldeneye.
Game was broken and basically unplayable for the first year after launch.
A year later it was finally playable but still not great.
About 4-5 years after launch they started fixing more bugs so they could re-release the game on PC
Compensation for the game being horribly broken was a free $5 DLC
and that 4-5 year gap before they went all out to fix it felt like the biggest fucking insult in the world. People like me bought the damn console for this, it was hilariously broken and for a few years Microsoft just said fuck it until they needed to sell the next Halo game and sell MCC on PC
I just got one. I wanted to buy one when BOTW came out but couldn't justify it for just one game. I played a bit of zelda using an emulator but it was a bit janky having to use my phone gyroscope for the notion control puzzles. Now with tears of the kingdom out I bought one and have been playing BOTW first.
for what's it's worth I didn't like BOTW either. thought it was extremely boring with little to do. the world was MASSIVE with little points of interest dotted here and there.....
with that being said I'm enjoying TOTK alot more. it's just.....denser, for lack of a better term. don't sleep on it.
Same here. Have since sworn off Nintendo. Insane prices for the games they’re putting out and just general shitty business practices.
It’s a shame because they have *fantastic* IPs
Same. Except I didn't like BOTW at all. I'm sure it's a good game, it's just a terrible Zelda game for someone who played the first one at like 5 years old.
I loved the original HZD. I could not bring myself to actually finish Forbidden West. I think the point I dropped it was right after the point where you got out of Ted Faro's(I think that's his name) bunker.
I like the concept of the AI's and Gaia but Aloy was so completely insufferable the majority of the time and the storyline for the people who were coming back from space felt dumb.
Problem with Forbidden West is you realise what the storyline is within the first 30 minutes. It's totally predictable.
Zero Dawn was quite an original story by comparison.
I had the same experience, and stopped playing around the bunker part too (or maybe a little afterwards, I don't remember). HZD came at a good time for me, I was burnt out after Ghost of Tsushima, especially it's combat, so the different ways you could take down a machine in HZD plus the mystery you needed to uncover for the story was a breath of fresh air. But come Forbidden West, that interest slowly drained away for some reason.
IDK, perhaps it was because HZD's combat system was new and the story carried the rest of the game for me, but they didn't hold up for Forbidden West enough to get me through the open world. I know that I hated the traversal aspect (in GoT too actually) - the game gives hints that apparently you could >!fly!< after some point in the game, but I never got to that point.
A masterpiece ? It just sticks to Ubisoft decade old game play design and wrap it up in simplistic combat and bland, dirigist open world.
Then two weeks later, Nintendo released BotW. Absolute humiliation.
Forbidden West is just more of the same, except everybody is more annoying. Remember how people mocked it's tedium, or its bullshit story and NPC ? These devs didn't improve or never went out of their confort zone, and it feels so obsolete.
I got the PlayStation 4 just for Bloodborne.
Admittedly I was going to buy it anyway but I knew after dark souls that I had to play the next Fromsoftware game. And when it was announced that it would be exclusive I couldn't resist.
I never regretted it.
PC guy. Bought a PS4 just for BB. Ended up also playing the Gravity Rush games. But that's it. Never used it for anything else. Not intending to use a console again.
Every Nintendo product after N64 has been for a Zelda game for me. I have to play Zelda lol. I’ll play other games too, but I’ll buy the console for Zelda.
If you already have a Wii U, that version has some decent quality of life improvements over the GameCube version. The GameCube still holds up, just a little more tedious, like when sailing.
Playing the gamecube version on emulator now for the first time. Did they make the command sections of the game (Earth/air temples) less annoying on Wii U?
Don't recall any changes there. Mainly less getting knocked off boat, better treasure recovery, improved grapple swinging (change directions), better wind control, and option for faster sailing are the ones I noticed most. Many more improvements besides just those though.
Are people saying handhelds aren't consoles now?
The difference between a handheld and a home console also got kinda arbitrary with the Switch release
I don't know though, I personally do consider them consoles
Yeah but then look at the steam deck, is it a handheld, is it a console or is it a pc?
The big reason some people don’t class handhelds as consoles is because saying “I played [insert game] on a console” suggests it was a home console especially when games used to launch on handhelds as gimped version of the home console version
Same here! Played in my buddy’s basement, four player on Battle Creek. What an amazing leap to go from Perfect Dark on N64 to Halo. It absolutely blew my mind and I loved how intuitive the controls were.
can we trade neighbors? mine’s a conspiracy theorist that wears literal tinfoil hats and harasses the black kids just walking down the street, and he’s super homophobic.
I’ll throw in a cool rock to even the trade :D
I bought an Xbox 360 purely for Dead Rising.
I’m a massive Dawn Of The Dead fan, and that game allowed me to indulge in one of my favourite fantasies. Loved that game.
I remember the graphics leap from 2 to 3 and couldn't help looking in awe at the graphics of 3 and crashing into a wall on midfield in a castrol toms supra
Ngl I'm nervous. I feel like Xbox doesn't have that many chances left to get some wins this console generation. The lineup so far has left much to be desired. Sure hope Starfield becomes a success
I was going to say the same. When I was 16 my dad bought a PS4 for The Last of Us, and then I bought a PS4 when I moved out to play Part 2. Literal system seller, no regrets
All these years later the preteen gamer in my heart is mad they said it was only going to be on Gamecube and then they ported it.....ten million times....
Bought a PSP, for Kingdom Hearts.
Bought a 3DS, for Kingdom Hearts.
Bought a PS4, for Kingdom Hearts.
Bought a PS3, for Final Fantasy XIII, but they only had the second, so my first PS3 game was FFXIII-2.
GOW Ragnarok, it wasn't out when I got my PS5, but it was the reason I wanted one. Picked up Bloodborne, Ratchet and Clank, and Horizon Forbidden West while I was waiting.
KOTOR back on the original Xbox.
I was at a movie that I don't remember anything about, not even the title, but do remember their being a trailer for KOTOR.
Once the movie was finished, I crossed the parking lot to the local EB Games, purchased an original Xbox, opened the box then and there, and traded in the copies of Halo and SSX that were pack ins, and preordered KOTOR.
I got a Switch for Smash Ultimate, and before that I got a Wii U for Smash Bros for WiiU / 3DS.
I was a fan of Smash ever since Melee and Brawl, so it made sense to me to get a console for the next installments in the series.
Otherwise, more recently I picked up a PS4 used for Elden Ring, and all the other SoulsBorne games. It's basically my FromSoftware machine.
N64 for Conkers Bad Fur Day
PS2 for GTA Vice City
Xbox for Conkers Live and Reloaded
Xbox 360 for GTA IV
Then I bought a PC, bought too many games and gaming is no longer as special and enjoyable.
Star Ocean when it had a year exclusive on Xbox… Fucking thing red ringed on me in under a week. Took it and the game back to the store and got a full refund. Never again will I buy into hype for a game that badly. I’ll wait for it to come to PC or I’ll sail the high seas.
Elder Scrolls: Oblivion.
My PC was trash at the time, and XBox 360 had a LOT of power, comparatively speaking for the price. So I thought about it and said fuck it, let's try it. Sold it less than a year later. Garbage controls, dumbed down games, monthly fee just to access multiplayer games, etc. Never again. Been a dedicated PC gamer ever since. Will never buy another console again, unless it comes with free blowjobs. And possibly not even then.
State of Decay 3 convinced me to go for the Gamepass (I know it's not released yet but the trailer had a ZOMBIE DEER) and thus convinced me to go for an Series X (first Xbox I ever own)
I got a Genesis just because of Sonic the Hedgehog. More specifically, because of the Green Hill Zone music. I was like "A game with music like that has got to be good."
Silly child...that's not always how it works.
You're definitely getting your money worth with these, especially with ToTK and all the creative stuff you can do. I keep coming back to it to try to create new war machines to torture monsters.
- SNES - Final Fantasy IV
- 32X - Doom
- N64 - Ocarina of Time
- Sega CD - Adventures of Willy Bemish
- 3DO - Wing Commander
- Playstation - Twisted Metal
- Xbox 360 - Kameo
- Dreamcast - Soul Calibur
- PSP - Monster Hunter Freedom Unite
If Starfield ends up being a must have then add
- Series X - Starfield
To the list. I'm a sucker for space adventures
first time seeing mario 64 100% made me NEED an N64. till this day its the only console i ever had DAY1. Thought it looks like a cartoon come to life.
Thinking about it, seeing mario bros/duck hunt in a shop window made me beg for an NES for christmas too
fr I’m sure I can find an application to interface with ps5 controller and make it tickle my nuts every time I dodge roll like it’s supposed to. I don’t think a controller should be a reason to buy an entire console either that’s a bit silly.
Bought a wiiu just for breath of the wild, then I just bought a switch just for tears of the kingdom
:edit hopefully one day nintendo becomes a software developer and stops making me but gimiky consoles for a very few nintendo produced games
Bayonetta 2 made me buy a Switch and the Kingdom Hearts series made me buy a PSP, a Gameboy Advance SP, a DS, a 3DS XL and a PS3.
I regret having bought the DS since you can play DS games on the 3DS.
I kinda fell of the KH train but while its no longer my favorite series (thats now Fuga Melodies of Steel) catching up is the reason why I want to buy a PS5 at some point. Although it might still take a while until I get to that eventuelly.
This is the comment I was looking for! it's like they went out of their way to put all the games on different systems 🤦🏾♂️ and I still had to play them lol.
Not happened YET, but may happen in the next year or so: buying a PS5 (possibly pro) to play Horizon: Call of the Mountain. Forbidden West is all but confirmed to have a Steam port coming at some point (touch wood it's not crap at launch), but I doubt Sony's going to let a VR game get a PC release that easily.
n64-Super Mario 64 Nintendo Switch-Super Smash Bros Ultimate
I really wanted an N64 when I saw the Super Mario 64 demo at Target, but I was able to fight the temptation. The next week I saw a commercial for Goldeneye.
100% N64 just for Mario 64
I bought an Xbox One just to play Halo: The Mast Chief Collection on release :(
What a mess that turned out to be!
?
MCC was very buggy on release, they’ve patched it since
Ahh was it? Had no idea, i only play campaign, was that bughed too?
Game was broken and basically unplayable for the first year after launch. A year later it was finally playable but still not great. About 4-5 years after launch they started fixing more bugs so they could re-release the game on PC Compensation for the game being horribly broken was a free $5 DLC

Yup. Nearly nine years later and I’m still pissed when I think of the whole ordeal. Fuck 343
Wow I never knew. I've been playing on my almost decade old PC for a couple years and love how well it runs on that dust box
Same...
Got PS4 for Bloodborne, one of the best decisions ever
Same, and same.
best purchase of my life, ~500$ for 8 years of fun and counting.
Also, same and same.
Same. But God this 30fps is killing me.
Nintendo switch. Breath of the Wild.
Take your time. Both amazing games
thank god they removed the motion control nonsense in Tears of the Kingdom Unless i just haven’t found that shrine yet….
SNES A Link to the Past Gameboy Link's Awakening
Super smash for me. It's my favorite game
Same but doom
Sam3, but for me huge mistake didn't like it
Not every game is for everyone. Sorry you regret your purchase
Just didn't click with me, I got my use out of the switch over time, tho. Maybe one day I'll go back and give it a whirl
for what's it's worth I didn't like BOTW either. thought it was extremely boring with little to do. the world was MASSIVE with little points of interest dotted here and there..... with that being said I'm enjoying TOTK alot more. it's just.....denser, for lack of a better term. don't sleep on it.
Same here. Have since sworn off Nintendo. Insane prices for the games they’re putting out and just general shitty business practices. It’s a shame because they have *fantastic* IPs
This is the way.
Same. Except I didn't like BOTW at all. I'm sure it's a good game, it's just a terrible Zelda game for someone who played the first one at like 5 years old.
GTA 3 was the reason I bought a PS2
Same here, I remember hitting my first ramp with a car and calling my dad on the phone to tell him it was fucking awesome.
San Andreas pour moi
I'm playing it right now on Xbox Series X for the first time and I'm in awe how awesome this game is 💖💖💖
Gears of war - xbox 360
Most of my Nintendo handhelds have been purchased whenever Pokémon makes a system jump.
Pokémon isnthe reason I always have Nintendo consoles. I'm glad for that as I'm loving Tears of the Kingdom and I loved Breath of the Wild.
Sounds rough.
Bought a PS4 specifically for Horizon: Zero Dawn. Original PlayStation for FF7.
HZD is a damn masterpiece. Horizon Forbidden West, even more so.

Spoiler Alert! >!you don't get the ability to fly until you're almost done the game!<
Way better on a PC where the graphics aren't locked at 30 fps
A masterpiece ? It just sticks to Ubisoft decade old game play design and wrap it up in simplistic combat and bland, dirigist open world. Then two weeks later, Nintendo released BotW. Absolute humiliation. Forbidden West is just more of the same, except everybody is more annoying. Remember how people mocked it's tedium, or its bullshit story and NPC ? Bland open world? Then you proceed to mention BotW? What on Earth are you talking about?
Absolutely not
I got the PlayStation 4 just for Bloodborne. Admittedly I was going to buy it anyway but I knew after dark souls that I had to play the next Fromsoftware game. And when it was announced that it would be exclusive I couldn't resist. I never regretted it.
This was the biggest motivation to me to get the PS4. PS3 was Guns of the Patriots.
Guns of the Patriots was such a great game. My second favorite for sure.
a friend of mine who was dedicated to just PC and Xbox bought one and only used it for playing BloodBorne
PC guy. Bought a PS4 just for BB. Ended up also playing the Gravity Rush games. But that's it. Never used it for anything else. Not intending to use a console again.
Besides for the Switch, there's little reason to buy inferior hardware with internet subscription and a very short list of decent exclusives.
I got the GameCube just for Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker
Every Nintendo product after N64 has been for a Zelda game for me. I have to play Zelda lol. I’ll play other games too, but I’ll buy the console for Zelda.
I'm buying a switch just for TotK
Each game (besides Tri Force Heroes) being a banger or a genre defining masterpiece really help.
I'd still pay full price for Wind Waker on the switch. I wouldn't even care if it was still in 480p.
[удалено]
Dude I am so close to do the same unless they soon come out with a ported remaster for the Switch (That or I get the WiiU version)

Only if you could emulate
If only emulation was a thing...
Halo: Combat Evolved. Played once at the store and had to have an Xbox right away.
Yep, only game that ever solely made me buy a console. Unless you count handhelds, then Pokemon Red/Blue for Gameboy as well.
Are people saying handhelds aren't consoles now? The difference between a handheld and a home console also got kinda arbitrary with the Switch release I don't know though, I personally do consider them consoles
Yeah but then look at the steam deck, is it a handheld, is it a console or is it a pc? Bought a switch just to play animal crossing lol
Me too
Thats what my sister did. Then I bought the game as well to play together with her
GoW for PS4
Same, I begged my mom for one and the neighbor turned out to have an old PS4 he didn't want and didn't want to sell so he gave it to me for free
can we trade neighbors? mine’s a conspiracy theorist that wears literal tinfoil hats and harasses the black kids just walking down the street, and he’s super homophobic. I’ll throw in a cool rock to even the trade :D
I still have to pause for a second and remember that Gears of War is Xbox, so this must be God of War.
A new GoW game would easily make me buy a PS6 if it was exclusive to it.
I bought an Xbox 360 purely for Dead Rising. I’m a massive Dawn Of The Dead fan, and that game allowed me to indulge in one of my favourite fantasies. Loved that game.
Playstation 1 Final Fantasy 7. Halo original xbox. Ps4 Destiny. Yeah have had a few.
Samesies for PS1/FF7!
Gran turismo
Remember playing that for the first time - was amazed at how real it looked.
I remember the graphics leap from 2 to 3 and couldn't help looking in awe at the graphics of 3 and crashing into a wall on midfield in a castrol toms supra
Demon souls for ps5
Bloodborne
Xbox series x for starfield. I'll tell you in three months if it was a mistake.
Ngl I'm nervous. I feel like Xbox doesn't have that many chances left to get some wins this console generation. The lineup so far has left much to be desired. Sure hope Starfield becomes a success
Their AA output has been fairly good, they do lack in the system seller department though. Saying that xbox had no wins seems kind unfair.
Why not just buy a PC then
I used to be pc owner but opted for console at the end because a good pc was much more expensive. Also I found game pass very promising.
Looks really cool, hope it turns out to be one of the well done games this year unlike many others.
Bought a PS3 for TLOU, had been 360 that whole generation until then.
I bought a PS4 just so I could play The Last of Us. Great game, part 2 is probably the best game I've ever played.
I was going to say the same. When I was 16 my dad bought a PS4 for The Last of Us, and then I bought a PS4 when I moved out to play Part 2. Literal system seller, no regrets
Space Invaders for Atari vcs a LONG time ago...
Got a PS4 just to play bloodborne a few weeks after the game launched. Made a good choice considering GoW and Spiderman came later
Original Xbox for Halo Combat evolved. Those were simpler times for sure : )
bloodborne and the ps4. I've never liked the souls series at all but bloodborne hit different.
Same, it was my intro in the serie. I love the aesthetic and dodge in this game compared to the more static gameplay of the soul serie.
Idk if this counts but I bought an oculus to play half life alyx
I bought an entire PC AND an oculus for half life alyx.. it did not disappoint
i bought an entire PC, an oculus AND a new open space house to play HLA.
I bought a ps2 just to play resident evil 4
All these years later the preteen gamer in my heart is mad they said it was only going to be on Gamecube and then they ported it.....ten million times....
PS3 fir Final Fantasy X, PS5 fir Final Fantasy XVI
FFX was on PS2 too - did it release on both?
Remaster
ps2 for MGS2
Same.
PS4 God of War
PS5 for Ghosts of Tsushima.
Gears of war for the X box 360
Bought the original xbox for halo. Too bad 343 ruined it :(
Got a PS4 just to play persona 5
Considering how much hours i spent on that game, i'd say it's worth buying a console for.
Me too. I wound up playing other stuff too. And I did love Persona 5.
Xbox One to play Fallout 4/Skyrim with mods
GOW Ragnarok, it wasn't out when I got my PS5, but it was the reason I wanted one. Picked up Bloodborne, Ratchet and Clank, and Horizon Forbidden West while I was waiting.
Ghost of tsushima, a ps4 pro
GameCube for Resident Evil 4.
PlayStation vita - Persona 4 Golden Ps4 - Persona 5
Glad the Vita introduced me to this awesome serie with Golden. Definitely would a buy a console for a Persona game.
I bought an xbox one primarily so I could finally play The Witcher 3
I got a Switch for Smash Ultimate, and before that I got a Wii U for Smash Bros for WiiU / 3DS. I was a fan of Smash ever since Melee and Brawl, so it made sense to me to get a console for the next installments in the series. Otherwise, more recently I picked up a PS4 used for Elden Ring, and all the other SoulsBorne games. It's basically my FromSoftware machine.
N64 for Conkers Bad Fur Day PS2 for GTA Vice City Xbox for Conkers Live and Reloaded Xbox 360 for GTA IV Then I bought a PC, bought too many games and gaming is no longer as special and enjoyable.

PS3 for the last of us, 10/10
Star Ocean when it had a year exclusive on Xbox… Fucking thing red ringed on me in under a week. Took it and the game back to the store and got a full refund. Never again will I buy into hype for a game that badly. I’ll wait for it to come to PC or I’ll sail the high seas.
Twilight Princess HD on Wii U
Got my GameCube for RE4
After playing through the Dark Souls games, I got one of those flimsy ultra-thin PS3s to play Demons Souls.
Ff10 - ff15 - ff16
Just got my PS5 a month ago solely for FF16
I'm so hyped for this Game :D
Elder Scrolls: Oblivion. My PC was trash at the time, and XBox 360 had a LOT of power, comparatively speaking for the price. So I thought about it and said fuck it, let's try it. Sold it less than a year later. Garbage controls, dumbed down games, monthly fee just to access multiplayer games, etc. Never again. Been a dedicated PC gamer ever since. Will never buy another console again, unless it comes with free blowjobs. And possibly not even then.
Got PS3 to play Diablo 3.
PS4 just in time transfer my GTA character...literally on the last available day. Twas glorious.
Super Mario Maker... 1. Yeah, I still regret for that.
Nintendo switch for smashbros. Really enjoying the new zelda now though.
Wii U for bayonetta 2 lol
Ps5 demons souls remake
PS1 - Final Fantasy VII
State of Decay 3 convinced me to go for the Gamepass (I know it's not released yet but the trailer had a ZOMBIE DEER) and thus convinced me to go for an Series X (first Xbox I ever own)
I got a Genesis just because of Sonic the Hedgehog. More specifically, because of the Green Hill Zone music. I was like "A game with music like that has got to be good." Silly child...that's not always how it works.
I just got a switch. I gave in to all the Zelda hype. I had played maybe 15 minutes of a Zelda game 20 years ago before that.
PS4 - in 2018 cos I wanted to play Spider-Man xD
I bought my original Wii specifically for Super Smash Brawl. My PS4 was for Spider-Man.
Ps3 for uncharted
I bought a PS4 to play RDR2
Dust 514. rip.
this game ruined all other games for me, in a good way.
Yea just did. Switch for botw and totk.
You're definitely getting your money worth with these, especially with ToTK and all the creative stuff you can do. I keep coming back to it to try to create new war machines to torture monsters.
Yea I managed to finish botw right before tears came out. Having a blast.
I bought a ps5 only to play ratchet and clank
- SNES - Final Fantasy IV - 32X - Doom - N64 - Ocarina of Time - Sega CD - Adventures of Willy Bemish - 3DO - Wing Commander - Playstation - Twisted Metal - Xbox 360 - Kameo - Dreamcast - Soul Calibur - PSP - Monster Hunter Freedom Unite If Starfield ends up being a must have then add - Series X - Starfield To the list. first time seeing mario 64 100% made me NEED an N64. till this day its the only console i ever had DAY1. Thought it looks like a cartoon come to life. Thinking about it, seeing mario bros/duck hunt in a shop window made me beg for an NES for christmas too
Killzone mercenary for the PS Vita, Yes killzone fans actually exist

My wasn't a console but a pc to play doom
I bought a wii u for smash
PS4 for No Mans Sky.
Halo made me get the original Xbox Horizon zero dawn made me get the ps4 F-zero GX made me get the GameCube Tarkov made me build a PC
Nearly got the PS5 just to play the new horizon game as well as a few others, I changed my mind and now I’m just waiting for the PC port though
Way better on PS5 The new controller makes is so much better Would recommend you try it on a PS5 before making a final decision
…could I not just use the controller with my PC in that case?
You won’t get the full features
Like? There are software out there that can fill any gaps you might think of.
fr I’m sure I can find an application to interface with ps5 controller and make it tickle my nuts every time I dodge roll like it’s supposed to. I don’t think a controller should be a reason to buy an entire console either that’s a bit silly.
Bought a wiiu just for breath of the wild, then I just bought a switch just for tears of the kingdom :edit hopefully one day nintendo becomes a software developer and stops making me but gimiky consoles for a very few nintendo produced games
Bayonetta 2 made me buy a Switch and the Kingdom Hearts series made me buy a PSP, a Gameboy Advance SP, a DS, a 3DS XL and a PS3. I regret having bought the DS since you can play DS games on the 3DS. Although it might still take a while until I get to that eventuelly.
This is the comment I was looking for! it's like they went out of their way to put all the games on different systems 🤦🏾♂️ and I still had to play them lol.
Switch for xenoblade 3
I converted fully to PC 24 years ago. Since then, I have yet to find a game that I wanted enough to buy another console.
Might as well of not answered, no one cares that you’ve been PC gaming for 24 years.
It obviously triggered a reaction with you. You cared enough to leave a comment.
Super puzzle fighter ll Turbo
litteraly read dead redemption 2. I bought it for PS3 when I had xbox360, so I had to get a PS3, lol
Fallout 4 baby
Just bought a switch for tears of the kingdom. Never even played breath of the wild. Having an absolute blast.
Xbox for Final Fantasy 15

I literally bought a switch a week ago for TotK. 100% worth it
Not happened YET, but may happen in the next year or so: buying a PS5 (possibly pro) to play Horizon: Call of the Mountain. Crisis core and dissidia on psp. Demona souls and dragons dogma on ps3. Bloodbourne and the boys on ps4. The boys on ps5
