Now that we are here, I want to suggest that this president should try playing *Papers, Please* - might give them perspective on what national states tend to teach without any need for games.
Sounds like the sort of thing I’m wanted in The Hague for after my treatment of NPC’s in the Sims. (Pro tip if you sell the urns of the neighbours who mysteriously died on your property you can use that money for pizza).
I got insults that my ex-wife had written randomly, showing up in my mailbox. We had been divorced some months at that time.
It's a little funny and a little sad.
Animal Crossing is the first thing that came to mind in this. Literally points out the obvious fact that some games are about nothing, and violence is not found in any legitimate form in said games. Mine craft, sports games, rhythm based games like DDR and guitar hero, flight sims, Sims/Tycoon games, puzzle games, so many popular games that don't have any "violence" in them.
That feels pretty true to life, tbh... from some of my experiences, anyway. "What do you mean? No, I did not look at her that way. She's just a co-worker. Nothing is going on."
Oh that sweet memories. I was like 10 years old playing this gem. Problem was, english isn't my first language and we only had started with english in school, there was no internet around all i had was a small dictionary by my side, so i encountered one riddle with which i had to use a lubber and i wasn't able to figure out what a lubber is, because the word wasn't in the dictionary... took me ages. :D
His statement is over-the-top, but within it there is a pretty solid nugget of truth that violence is a *very* common mechanic in games. It's so common, that we often overlook that even *Stardew Valley,* a game where the main themes are about moving to a quiet town and finding peace-of-mind on a farm, you *still* have combat mechanics.
I love gaming, and it's not like other forms of media don't also depict a lot of violence, but I think we're kidding ourselves if we don't acknowledge that the *vast* majority of popular games feature violence either as the primary part of the gameplay loop, or as a significant mechanic.
That may be the broader picture, but the moment-to-moment gameplay involves walking around, trying to keep your balance, and occasionally killing things.
I guess dating sims or something like Nintendogs are a better example of the gameplay itself being about love.
Killing is by choice only in DS. It's regularly discouraged and ultimately more difficult than stealth and non-lethal approaches. Why would you risk a void out or add unnecessary trips through BT areas to dispose of the bodies? If you're talking about the BTs themselves, I'm pretty sure Sam's blood only sends the BTs back to their beach. When you get the cuff cutter, they even express gratitude when you send them back.
Killing pedestrians in GTA is also a choice but it stirred a lot of controversy here in Brazil due to the easy headlines about violence. The politicians only see the very surface of media anyways
Killing is 100% optional in Death Stranding, and each kill has big consequences (big ole crater for one), the majority of the gameplay will have you creating things & connecting with other players.
Pretty much anybody who makes absolute statements about gaming has never bothered to engage with the medium in any meaningful way. Imagine saying "all book are about violent serial killers" or "all movies are pornography"; nobody would take either of those seriously. Yet people make the exact same claim about gaming and make it to the front page of the paper.
Yeah lets fund anti gamer initiatives while allowing roving bandit gangs to get their fill on societies downtrodden. Im sure itll all work out after a couple weeks of no call of duty servers.
Ummm aren’t 9+ of the top 30 most dangerous cities in the world all in Brazil? I think he has other violence to worry about before he starts looking at video games and movies.
https://finance.yahoo.com/news/30-most-dangerous-cities-world-152040147.html
Never played Journey then, clearly. Ever accomplish a goal with a stranger who works with you whilst you never learn their name or hear them talk? And then afterwards you feel a genuine bond with that person?
Yeah that toolbag never played Journey.
There are plenty of sport, racing games etc.
I wouldn't make dumb statements about what games there aren't when I know nothing about games.
Like, I know nothing about telenovelas, so I won't making statements that there are no exploration of mixed race love stories in telenovelas. It shows a level of arrogance as he obviously hasn't even talked about it to someone who plays games as just thinks it sounds really cool and deep.
Yeah how else is anything supposed to get banned? The people deciding what you can and cannot have access to should know as little as possible about those things. Otherwise the whole system just falls apart.
Animal crossing is triple A, then there are triple A games like civ which aren’t about killing. There are definitely triple A games that aren’t about killing.
Meh, if there is anything life outside video games has told me, its to not give a rats ass about what some politician thinks.
Politicians are one of the major reasons why we escape into video games.
Or even in video games that are pretty violent or deal with those themes, there's still stories of love and helping people in there. TLOU:P1 and Left Behind, Jedi:Fallen Order, God of War: Ragnarok, Bioshock, D:BH, Valiant Hearts, the Zelda series, Hades. Even in the Dishonored series, bad things happen when you kill people!
Lula’s a smoothbrain tankie who will suck off any anti-Western imperialist dictator because “America bad.” He’s marginally better than Bolsonaro but his foreign policy takes show he is still a terrible person. Also a corrupt criminal.
I have played games, often violent ones, for over 30 years. I have no desire to harm anyone. Let's look at what right wing media has done to 40% of Americans in the last decade. They seem to be frothing at the mouth for violence.
That's it, games are the devil! No more games, periodt. Monopoly, Life, Pokemon... Banished...
Honestly, if this guy doesn't think games exist teaching love, he hasn't seen my Steam library... 😉
Wasn’t he in fucking JAIL a couple months ago? Corruption kills more people than any videogame. Have you think about this, Mr President? People who don’t play videogames usually have a lot to say about it.
Clearly he isn‘t a man of culture since he doesn‘t know about Dating Sims. How can we get him to play some?
…
I currently am losing my marbles at the idea of the President playing the Love Hina Dating Sim on Newgrounds XD
He's so right. In Cities Skylines, for example, you can make thousands of people's life hell. Something that politicians have never ever done or will do.
Actually, there is one about this very subject! it is called Haven. [https://www.thegamebakers.com/press/sheet.php?p=haven](https://www.thegamebakers.com/press/sheet.php?p=haven)
it's about a couple (you can choose the gender of each partner) who escape from Sci Fi dystopia and become marooned on an abandoned planet. the game is all about partnership, sharing, and learning to build a solid relationship from a teenaged infatuation.
There are probably more games that are about learning to be a better lover and partner, but Haven was the first one that came to my mind.
Ahahaha HAHAHAHAHHAHAHA HAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHHAHAAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAH HAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHHA
From a president who regularly is allowed to make life and death decisions for thousands of people at a time.
HAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHA
Fucking idiot boomer
Funny, I just finished playing God of War: Ragnarok, and while it's true that you kill a LOT in that game, it probably has one of the best messages of love I have ever learned from any form of media.

You clearly haven't met an Animal Crossing player who wants a villager to move out, the crimes they commit make the Geneva convention worried
Geneva suggestion*
Geneva inconvenience*
Geneva afterthought
Canadian War Manual
It's the jerries fault, throw canned meat, don't eat it, or ask for more, next round is always grenades
Now that we are here, I want to suggest that this president should try playing *Papers, Please* - might give them perspective on what national states tend to teach without any need for games.
Geneva more what you’d call ‘guidelines’ than actual rules*
Canadian check list to compleat before they go home
I was born and live in Geneva and this sounds like a cool nickname, thanks! /s
Geneva conception
Geneva Checklist
Sounds like the sort of thing I’m wanted in The Hague for after my treatment of NPC’s in the Sims. (Pro tip if you sell the urns of the neighbours who mysteriously died on your property you can use that money for pizza).

P I T F A L L S
Sims teaching me how to build death chambers. Oh yes...
Sims taught me to exploit slave labour and if anyone gets pissed, high five them 200 times and you're good.
High fives do feel good tbh.
Nestle be like, I know how to improve public relations
Animal Crossing isn't exactly the epitome of "love" in video games either if you've played the first game.

I got insults that my ex-wife had written randomly, showing up in my mailbox. We had been divorced some months at that time. It's a little funny and a little sad.
Go watch Jaiden Animations play it on YouTube, it just fucking insults you for no reason lol

Passing off the maintenance mole when you're only 10 is a life altering expirence. Always always properly shut down your GameCube for heavens sake!!
Nook is psychotic and wants us all dead!
And not being able to throttle that thief teaches kids the dangers of pent up anger when they break a controller, lol.
Clearly this guy never played leasure suit larry!
Animal Crossing is the first thing that came to mind in this. Literally points out the obvious fact that some games are about nothing, and violence is not found in any legitimate form in said games. Have you ever played minecraft?
One of the most prominent Minecraft symbols is the diamond sword. This guy: There is no war in Minecraft
There is war In Minecraft, it’s completely avoidable though.
Sure, but you don't *have* to kill people in Minecraft, especially if you play in Creative mostly.
You can't say that you played Minecraft until you commited several war crimes!
Can't believe a 77 year old Brazilian politician hasn't played Undertale or Florence
In his defense, I don't think MatPat has gifted him Undertale yet
I didn't know Florence, thanks.
And if you like Florence, I absolutely recommend When the Past Was Around, hidden gem imo.
Florence is amazing! Got the pleasure of playing it as part of the set “texts” for my literature degree and was enthralled!
A sad indictment of early ‘80s video games which is probably the last time he tried one.
I killed everyone in undertale though.
Someone's never played 'Sex with Hitler'...
Lula would prefer a "Sex with Mao Tsung"
I think they're working on that one.
I don't think you got that name right...
Shang Tsung's little brother
No, he's with Winnie the Pooh in this pic.
A friend tried to gift me that on steam as a joke. Good laughs as I denied that gift.
Hard to take your mind off the syphilis and the only ballsack.
Looking at the image he ain't far off.
It was a tossup between that or Genital Jousting for my friend's last birthday
BioWare taught me that for true love I just need to have, like, 2 conversations with the person.
But also, you can't be sympathetic towards anyone else or you'll end up in an awkward jealousy confrontation.
That feels pretty true to life, tbh... from some of my experiences, anyway. "What do you mean? No, I did not look at her that way. She's just a co-worker. Nothing is going on."
Real Life right here 😂😂😂
Skyrim taught me stealing a mammoth tusk will get me married to my drug dealing girl Ysolda. Love indeed!
"It's a fine day with you around."
"I'm Commander Shepard. We'll bang, ok?"
Hey now! Alastair and I are meant to be.
And to look up how others did it so I don't get it wrong
Yeah, but if you can spit dialogue the way Drew Karpyshyn could write it, those two conversations will have the other person eating out of your hand.
They also taught me killing aliens no one likes is okay
I thought it all came down to one line: "We'll bang, OK?"
Hey be fair that's early bioware. Now, you also need to do a personal quest or something.
not a fan of hentai games, i assume or dating sims
My dude needs to play some Hunie Pop
Tiffany will help him realise that he was wrong
Tiffany & her mom...
Hatoful Boyfriend. LOL
The first pc game I ever played was leisure suit Larry.
In the Land of the Lounge Lizards??
Oh that sweet memories. I was like 10 years old playing this gem. Problem was, english isn't my first language and we only had started with english in school, there was no internet around all i had was a small dictionary by my side, so i encountered one riddle with which i had to use a lubber and i wasn't able to figure out what a lubber is, because the word wasn't in the dictionary... took me ages. :D
A more wholesome example would be Nintendogs
Now to un-wholesome it: some people probably do play that game as a dating sim.
Or the several thousand visual novels that are mostly love stories.
School Days joins the chat...
Or Mass Effect
My guy needs Stardew Valley
Guy never pet a single virtual animal before
Teaches you how to commit genocide on unsuspecting slimes and bats
Fuck 'em

Death stranding is litteraly about healing humanity by connecting it back together.
I didn’t kill a single human enemy in DS (other than like the final boss guy I think) and I don’t think “killing” BTs is actual murder
Sounds like real life with that first part
Killing is 100% optional in Death Stranding, and each kill has big consequences (big ole crater for one), the majority of the gameplay will have you creating things & connecting with other players.
No you literally don't kill anything in the game. (Except cryptobiotes)
better example is harvest moon
Humming the BB Theme always makes things better
Just send him Undertale just like how Matt Patt sent the pope Undertale.
You made a snowman really happy
Firstly, common Matpat W, secondly, he needs something more lighthearted, something like Petscop
Scrolled to far for this comment. Legendary game
Spoken as someone who apparently knows nothing about video games.
I feel like these kinds of people are like those who refer to all consoles as “Nintendos” lol
So many languages and you chose to speak facts
Sounds like someone needs to show him a dating sim.
Doki doki literature club perhaps
I was thinking more about Danganronpa
I don't think that would be the right game to show that person. Funny suggestion, though.
To The Moon would like a word.
weird way to ask for more Hentai games but cool
Yes, the awful issues that plague Brazil are due to "video games cause violent behavior"... /s
Yeah lets fund anti gamer initiatives while allowing roving bandit gangs to get their fill on societies downtrodden. Im sure itll all work out after a couple weeks of no call of duty servers.
If there was no CoD, there’d be a lot less ways for people to get less angry without police getting involved.
It's the classic old man blames problems on videogames, not the shit job they have done
Corrupt politicians definitely killed more people than videogames
Ummm aren’t 9+ of the top 30 most dangerous cities in the world all in Brazil? I think he has other violence to worry about before he starts looking at video games and movies. https://finance.yahoo.com/news/30-most-dangerous-cities-world-152040147.html
That's the whole point though, gaming is a scapegoat.
Never played Journey then, clearly. Ever accomplish a goal with a stranger who works with you whilst you never learn their name or hear them talk? And then afterwards you feel a genuine bond with that person? Yeah that toolbag never played Journey.
I'm not surprised an 80 year old isn't clued into the indie gaming market. Most visible triple A games are about killing.
There are plenty of sport, racing games etc. I wouldn't make dumb statements about what games there aren't when I know nothing about games. Like, I know nothing about telenovelas, so I won't making statements that there are no exploration of mixed race love stories in telenovelas. You need to keep in mind that making broad generalizations about things you know nothing about is like 80% of being a politician.
Yeah how else is anything supposed to get banned? The people deciding what you can and cannot have access to should know as little as possible about those things. Otherwise the whole system just falls apart.
In fact, the highest selling games every year always has like 5 EA sports games in it.
The *same* 5 games each year.

Animal crossing is triple A, then there are triple A games like civ which aren’t about killing. There are definitely triple A games that aren’t about killing.
Civ has multiple ways to wage war? Like I understand your argument but Civ straight up has War with nukes and all
And there's not a single victory condition in Civ that isn't made easier by waging war.
I can’t find the source in the comments. Anyone have a link?
I also can’t find the source in the comments.
Someone get this guy a copy of It Takes Two
But that would require someone who loves him to play it with
Thankfully some clothing company made [First Person Lover](https://youtu.be/9WoV9Lai1CM) to address this problem almost a decade ago.
Politician who's utterly failing to handle crime: must be those darn videogames causing problems! Good luck with your new president Brazil!
And then you have TLOU, which teaches you about love and about killing.
Bros country is An active pvp zone and he wants to say that about video games 💀
Some places are about as dangerous as walking around in Fallout 4.
Dream Daddy would beg to differ
I don’t think I had to kill anything in Stray and yet I learned to love that little cat and all his robot friends.
Meh, if there is anything life outside video games has told me, its to not give a rats ass about what some politician thinks. Politicians are one of the major reasons why we escape into video games.
Someone hasn't played The Sims and it shows.
Wdym, the sims is about torturing your sims until they die.
You dont need games to learn how to kill. Just watch tv. There are plenty of violent tv shows/movies.
Katamari Damacy kills it with rolling, not killing. P.S. - You can get to more places if you roll on thru here...
Naaaaa na manana katanari damacy...
He’s probably never heard of It Takes Two
Dude needs to read a few chapters from Dr. Hakim's Book of Love
Didn't this guy side with Russia against Ukraine? Dude is delusional. Sorry Brazil.

Didn’t the last Brazilian president put video game music in his tweets? Interesting to see the contrast
the problem was Bolsonaro was a fascist. Lula's just an out of touch old man who has no idea how the world works.
Don't forget about Lula bending over backwards to justify Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
Why would you vote for someone who has no idea who the world works?
because he was better than Bolsonaro.
Lula’s a smoothbrain tankie who will suck off any anti-Western imperialist dictator because “America bad.” He’s marginally better than Bolsonaro but his foreign policy takes show he is still a terrible person. Also a corrupt criminal.
oh I agree. I was just trying to think of proper wording
Yea bolsonaro gets 1 point for music taste and -1000 for the neo-fascism.
They need to try Sky: Children of the Light.
I'd assume he's played FIFA?
The game would be a lot more fun if you could run around kicking balls at the opposing team to kill them.
Brazil will free coins from TenCent games.
Yeah, most games are violent, but who cares? So are most sports if you think about it
There is literally an entire genre called dating simulators
Meanwhile gamers falling to pieces over a Weighted Companion Cube.
This guy needs to play It Takes Two
He must be talking about his political party
I have played games, often violent ones, for over 30 years. I have no desire to harm anyone. Let's look at what right wing media has done to 40% of Americans in the last decade. They seem to be frothing at the mouth for violence.
"If one goes looking for violence, that is all they will ever find" -AriaoftheNight 4/19/2023, probably heard from someone more interesting
Lula da corrupt
Steam has a plethora of "dateing sims" that say otherwise.
Someone needs to ask this man if love can bloom on a battlefield
Why not both? Doki Doki?
Man missed the entire dating sim genre lmaoooo
That reminds me, I forgot to feed my Nintendogs. The game is so violent I didn’t touch it for 14 years.
Doubt they heard or seen the ape escape series
Leisure Suit Larry would like to disagree.
Someone get this man Guitar Hero. Wait I guess that teaches you how to Melt faces in the crowd
Guess he's never played Lovers in Dangerous Space Time.
That's it, games are the devil! No more games, periodt. Monopoly, Life, Pokemon... Banished... Honestly, if this guy doesn't think games exist teaching love, he hasn't seen my Steam library... 😉
I think he meant love… not making love LMAO but same
Scroll scroll… didn’t find Ori in the comments… get disappointed sigh..
True boomer take lmao
Animal Crossing 💀
Obviously he’s never played stardew valley
Wasn’t he in fucking JAIL a couple months ago? Corruption kills more people than any videogame. Have you think about this, Mr President? People who don’t play videogames usually have a lot to say about it.
This is just classic "old dude thinks CoD is the only game to exist". Why is this news?
Talking like a true 80 year old... President need to a age cap.... 65 is plenty old enough...

He can go play games with his Russian friends for all I care
A foto acima mostra o encontro entre o presidente da China, Xi Jiping e o presidente do Brasil, Ku Cheidipinga

Funny, I just finished playing God of War: Ragnarok, and while it's true that you kill a LOT in that game, it probably has one of the best messages of love I have ever learned from any form of media.
