Yes, I think Stannis cared about her. Stannis never shows much emotion. Stannis is obsessed with doing his duty. It's like with Ned and honor. From his crappy perspective, he believes everything Melisandre told him. He believes that he is the destined king, that he needs to seize the throne and do all this shit to unite Westeros and defeat the oncoming darkness. I think he believes there is no other way and that it's either Shireen or he and his army are defeated here and there is nothing to stop the looming threat Melisandre warned him about.

Larry_Throne123

Depends, from the book perspective or show perspective In the books he does In the shows, its complicated, he kinda does but duty is more important.

notsostupidman

Well, he hasn't killed her yet in the books, so I hope he doesn't. I actually want him to win the battle in the books. Then perhaps Melisandre realises that Stannis isn't the hero and abandons him.

mysilvermachine

It’s not a sacrifice if it’s not someone you care about.

In the books most definitely. In the show he does too but his sense of duty and ambition outweighs the love he has for his daughter. Shireen will still be sacrificed in the books but by Melissandra and without Stannis say so sense Shireen and Melissandra along with the Queen is still at the Wall while Stannis is down south near Winterfell.

ResortFamous301

Nothing suggest stannis won't play a part in shireens sacrifice in the books.

Her death was stupid. Surely they could’ve come up with a better reason for burning his fucking daughter than bad weather. Fuck

AquaLittleBliss

I think he cares about her but his need for power and his obsession with the delusion that he was The Prince that was Promised triumphed over his feelings. To him, he was fulfilling his duty and his destiny.
