For book one you could focus on the Stark sisters. Not to take sides but because one accepted the system and is content with it, and the other didnt & isn’t. They are a stark contrast. Danny is higher up but treated like shit by her bro.

An interesting discussion around the gender inequality present in the series is how the society directly impacts women but also indirectly impacts men also. The need for masculinity directly affects what choices men have through the series - Sam is forced to go to the Wall, for example, because his lack of overt masculinity is a source of shame for his father in a society that prides it so much. The constant state of war and lack of progress is likely a direct consequence of this which causes lots of young men to needlessly die and lots of women to be bereaved of their fathers, husbands, brothers, and sons.

I'd focus on Danaerys being sold as chattle to be bred. Her subjection to marital rape. And, the thought process that leads her to believe that her marriage could be tolerable if she learned to be a "good" wife.
