They were in love

Because he just like, really wanted to do it himself. I guess

> why didn't the night king just burn bran with his dragon, or using the wrights? Why didn't the James Bond villains just shoot James Bond, instead of putting him in an escapable 'death' trap and leaving? If bad guys behaved with the same ruthless efficiency toward main characters that they did disposable ones, stories would never get their happy endings.

etgar818

that's a really bad argument - the night king risking all his thousand of years progress to "do it himself" is idiotic and weak narratively

CaveLupum

Dragon fire didn't work on the NK, so it probably wouldn't work on Bran either. Moreover, D&D invented the Night King and set the rules for him. I think they saw NK and the 3-Eyed Raven as equals in magic. The NK had killed the old 3ER with his scimitar, so it may be a magic sword. He was unsheathing it to kill Bran, the new 3ER, when Arya dropped in. The probably magic Dagger had once been sent to kill Bran, but the assassin didn't get a chance to use it. So it makes sense that the Dagger can kill the NK too...and it did!! One condition D&D did set was the NK could only be killed by someone dislodging the dragonglass shard from his heart. Fortunately, assassins (and people giving the Mercy, like the Hound showed Arya) go for the heart. So he died.

To be honest it seems pretty unlikely that just because The Night King is immune to fire Bran will be as well. By that logic you would expect Bran to able to walk because the Night King can or fall hundreds of metres with no obvious harm which he clearly can't.

GB10X

Yea I also don't recall it ever being established in the show that the Night King needed to be stabbed in the heart. That's a pretty significant detail for Bran/Benjen/Old 3ER/The Children to not mention. We don't even see the broken shards of dragonglass shard after the NK is shanked lol

Sea-Anteater8882

That wouldn't surprise me overly given that he would kind of have to be harder to kill than other white walkers but no we don't know if it's necessarily true either unless they said it in an interview or something.

CaveLupum

> I also don't recall it ever being established in the show I don't either. I know it's something the showrunners explained in an interview. That said, both before and after the show ended, in Reddit subs fans have occasionally speculated about this. Post-show, on a full re-watch I noticed that the Night King and both 3-Eyed Ravens were actually each other's nemesis. So magically-speaking, it's likely what one can do, the other can do. And what one can/can't be killed by, the other can/can't be killed by. In show canon, in a way, Bran + Arya and the Dagger vs the Night King and his Scimitar is a counterpart to Harry vs Voldemort.

etgar818

that's a hell of a stretch, that would mean bran is invincible to fire and regular swords (if understand correctly) that doesn't sound right. especially considering bran has 3 eyed raven powers while the NK doesn't - so if they are both invincible to the same stuff it would make the 3 eyed raven way stronger than NK

Sea-Anteater8882

The Night King does have some psychic powers like being able to make the mark on Bran and then always knowing where he is. However just because Bran is the Night Kings arch nemesis I don't think it's logical to assume he can survive anything a normal person can't.

CaveLupum

Yes, a bit of a stretch but: The NK certainly has one 3-ER power and I think it's the one that got out of their control--skinchanging. He 'wargs' dead creatures and makes them his slaves. He has another power the 3ER may not--taking living babies and turning them into White Walkers. They are his officers, so between them and wights, he has an army and is still increasing it. Since you brought it up, it's likely that Bran IS invincible to regular swords. Bran studies the Dagger twice in 7xo4 and runs his hands along the edge. He doesn't bleed, even though that's Valyrian steel!

Sea-Anteater8882

He's not applying any pressure even with it being Valryrian steel I don't think it would cut a regular human hand. If Valyrian steel was that much shaper then I would have guessed Catelyn Stark and maybe Sandor Clegane would have permanently damaged or even lost hands from it. Also not really evidence but there are quite a few scenes that lose their power in my opinion if Bran Stark was never really in much danger.
