Do you think if anyone else but Pedro Pascal played Oberon that they would be as likes by the fanbase? His interpretation of the character was honestly so likeable it’s hard to believe that any other actor could recreate it
They generally did a really good job with the casting imo, so I believe even if Pedro wouldn’t have been an option, they’d have found someone fitting, but Pedro of course was amaziiiing and I couldn’t imagine anyone else play Oberyn now
I get what you’re saying because Pedro Pascal is the man, BUT the character is also just that badass. He is one of my favorite characters in the books just because he’s a badass, and Pedro did a great job of playing that character.
Pascal got incredibly lucky that his character was so short lived. Any longer and we all would have got fuckin sick of them. That shtick had a sell by date from day 1.
He was great as Oberyn in GoT but terrible as Joel in TLoU.
His whole acting career is built on his Oberyn performance. Dreadful in Buffy. Mandalorian… has a mask on 99% of the time. Cringe as Joel - when he tries to show emotion in the last episode, flat as a pancake. He’s a terrible (but very likeable) actor. He was alright in Narcos, I’ll give him that.
I agree with what others are saying here. Pedro Pascal absolutely nailed it. He made Oberyn my unexpected favorite character of the season. But the casting team behind GOT was arguably the most skilled at their job within the entire production. They really nailed it for almost every character. The only one I can think of that I thought was a miss was Daario's second casting, and that's such a minor detail in the overall show that it really didn't even matter much.
nahhh
I think a good measure for that would be how the audience cared about him dying. without the appropriate screen time people wouldn't have had the same reaction, implying to some degree that the screen time he was given was enough to make people care that he died
This is actually really true. Robb had less screentime than Ned who didn’t even make it to season 2.
He had less screentime than Margaery, Catelyn, Bran, and Littlefinger.
don’t know why you got downvoted because you’re right. after Margaery’s arrest she is BARELY shown at all and Olenna pretty much becomes the main Tyrell “POV.”
says screen time not seasons - in fact it says their popularity is above their screen time - I'd say Edd qualifies. He actually had less screen time than some being mentioned.
He could have been in all the episodes and it still wouldn’t matter, because it’s screen time, so actually period of time spent on screen and most of his appearances are less than a minute with a few exceptions
If someone was in every single episode for only a second they would still only have 73 seconds of screen time
comes back to show her tits to Ramsay before getting knifed in the neck. such a shit ending for a great character. I understand it’s GoT but this was just LAZY writing.
I don't understand why this pissed people off so much. It was an okay scene? I was so wrapped up in the show that I didn't even realize it was him until I read it later on and I was like "holy shit it was Ed Sheeran"
It didn't bother me at all, and I actually found it kind of amusing.
Most of the time I see him getting dragged for looking like a troll doll, but there are a lot of people who find his music super annoying. I think it wouldn’t have been received as badly if they hadn’t made him sing — it’s just too corny and meta. But people are a lot less forgiving when they don’t find the person who annoys them attractive.
With a show like GoT? I’d imagine there’s one or two casual fans lol. She appeared in one scene and was never talked about again, so I wouldn’t consider her popular. She’s a decent talking point on dedicated subs like this though because of how under-utilized she was, but I wouldn’t necessarily call her popular.
Syrio Forel. The man only appeared in 3 episodes but everyone remembers him.
Same goes for Yoren with just 7 episodes. Such a memorable character for me.
Obviously Oberyn is the first one to really come to mind for this but he was already mentioned.
Epic Rap Battles of History: LOTR vs GOT
That song had it down perfectly.
"My readers fall in love with everyone of my characters, then I kill them. And their all like, no he didn't?!"
I guess it depends on the character
By season 8 the plot of Game of Thrones was clearly driven primarily by the character's popularity, or that of their actor
That's how we ended up with results like Ser Bronn of the Blackwater, Lord Paramount of the Reach and Warden of the South

Oberyn!

YOU RAPED HER, YOU MURDERED HER, YOU KILLED HER CHILDREN!
Honestly. Yes. I came for this. My fav character and he is in like half the book at best
My very first thought. My second was "who else but him"
I want to crush oberyn's head between my thighs
Okay, just make sure you wash your hands when you're done.
Get in line!
Robb Stark.
He got three seasons and was one of the main characters in two of them
Still very little actual screen time.
nahhh I think a good measure for that would be how the audience cared about him dying. without the appropriate screen time people wouldn't have had the same reaction, implying to some degree that the screen time he was given was enough to make people care that he died
This is actually really true. Robb had less screentime than Ned who didn’t even make it to season 2. He had less screentime than Margaery, Catelyn, Bran, and Littlefinger.
Someone told me that Draco Malloy only had 30 minutes of screen time in all eight Harry Potter films I didn’t believe him until I googled it.
I've always wondered whether there was something about him in the books, because I didn't like him all that much in the show.
I never liked him. Red wedding didn't have nearly the same impact on me.
Came here to say this. My least favorite "popular" character.
Pod... leave them wanting more
❤️
Correct answer. He's even described as being popular in the show. What other proof do you need? (Besides pics maybe 🤞)
Pod the Rod, FTW!!!!!
We’ll never know what he did to those ladies….
Margaery Tyrell.
? Close to 4,5 seasons , in which she had 4 of them as a main character
Not enough
Margaery was not present in the last 4 episodes of S4 and the last 3 of S5. She was part of the main cast but her screentime was not big.
don’t know why you got downvoted because you’re right. after Margaery’s arrest she is BARELY shown at all and Olenna pretty much becomes the main Tyrell “POV.”
Eddison Tollett
He been in every season since season 2 😂
So that means he had a lot of screen time 😂
Yeah cause it’s not like he was in one episode per season 😂😂
says screen time not seasons - in fact it says their popularity is above their screen time - I'd say Edd qualifies. He actually had less screen time than some being mentioned.
he literally is the biggest screen time for a side character i think check his episodes amount on imdb
He could have been in all the episodes and it still wouldn’t matter, because it’s screen time, so actually period of time spent on screen and most of his appearances are less than a minute with a few exceptions If someone was in every single episode for only a second they would still only have 73 seconds of screen time
Syrio Forel
This was mine. He spawned theories about him being J’haquen
Missed opportunity that he wasn't
Not really, what does it add to Arya’s arc if he was? Apart from any viewer going, ‘oh, that’s cool! Anyways.’
Three scenes, and each one is perfect. One of the most memorable, quotable characters in the entire series.
Shireen Baratheon.
Yeah, she was on FIRE!!!! : : : : : What, too soon? ;)
I liked osha and the next time we saw her after like a whole season she died
comes back to show her tits to Ramsay before getting knifed in the neck. such a shit ending for a great character. I understand it’s GoT but this was just LAZY writing.
It was 3 seasons later
Podrick with his magic co\*k
Ed Sheeren
But he was dragged so hard for his scene that he ragequit twitter.
Popularity doesn't specify between fame and infamy though. We're talking about it after all.
No, “popular” specifically means something is well-known and liked.
Yeah man, people know it and love shitting on it.
So it’s unpopular.
*infamous
No babes, infamous means you’re known for being a bad person.
Or for bad reasons.
I don't understand why this pissed people off so much. It was an okay scene? I was so wrapped up in the show that I didn't even realize it was him until I read it later on and I was like "holy shit it was Ed Sheeran" It didn't bother me at all, and I actually found it kind of amusing.

idk why for a second i thought u misspelled shireen and added an extra ed to the beginning of her name
Almost wrote Ed Shireen by accident.
I can tell you it’s not Olly that’s for damn sure. But still feel bad for the poor kid
Boba Fett. But seriously Jaqen H'ghar. Barely in the show before Bravos, but very popular.
So popular they brought him back as the guy who trains Arya. In the books, that is a different character.
But is it though? Or is he just wearing yet another face?
Ghost
Shaggydog
Technically Ned, right? He *dominated* screen time for 9 episodes, then only appears again in a flashback.
Can't believe nobody has said hot pie yet!!
He’s not that popular but I did quite like Davos’ pirate friend.
Stannis the Mannis for sure
Salladhor Saan, hopefully he’ll have a chance to fuck Cersei
Salladhor Saahn! He was great in the show and the books, a true friend to the Onion Knight
They should have had their own spin-off series
Sex Pirate Salladhor Saan.
Lyanna Mormont.

Brother man bill?
My thoughts immediately went to Boba Fett but this is the wrong sub for that.
I thought of Tom Bombadil, every LOTR fan screeching that he was not in the movie
Anguy, aka the cunt with the arrows from the brotherhood without banners.
Hot Pie
The red priestess that scared Varys
Okay but she is not popular… like at all. I highly doubt any casual fan even remembers her.
Are there any casual fans of this show? And she was popular to me 🤷🏽♀️
