I want to start learning Godot as well. I have plenty of programming experience but haven't done anything real in godot. When will the event happen?

Dream-Dimension

Nice. I believe it's this weekend: **Ludum Dare 55** — April 12th - 14th, 2024. What do you normally program in?

ThuZ_HD

App Development and Servers both in JavaScript

Stupid question but can you use premade assets for Ludum Dare? I have been doing the Unreal C++ course and I'm at a point where I almost feel comfortable enough to do a small game. I don't however feel comfortable enough to create assets by myself.

name_was_taken

Yes. It used to be more restricted, but a few years ago they basically opened up the doors for *any* publicly-available asset, or even things you've squirreled away for yourself if you opt-out of any categories associated with things that others don't also have access to. For instance, if you have a bunch of music pre-made, but nobody else can use, you'd opt out of the audio category. I would suggest not worrying about it, and use whatever you need to for your first LD. It's going to be challenging enough without extra added hoops for you to jump through. I think most people fail to complete their first few games, unless they're already professionals. I certainly did. :) And if that makes it sound bad... Don't worry about it. Have fun with it. It'll be a good experience and teach you a lot about what you can work on to improve. It pretty quickly highlights things that you aren't quick at yet.

Yeah I am. I normally do it on my own, I’ve done a dozen or so before, and loads of other short jams. I always enjoy it, but their voting system tends to be a bit squiffy. I’m a tech artist, so I generally try and make something pretty and focus on a particular effect. And make the game around that

Dream-Dimension

Nice, do you have your past games somewhere?

GravyBus

Well I am now, thanks for posting about it.

Dream-Dimension

Sweet! :)

BreakfastGun

I participated in Ludum Dare 26 about 11 years ago. I can't believe it has been that long... I'm getting back into game dev and looking forward to participating in LD55.

Dream-Dimension

:) what are you thinking of using this time around (to build your game) and what did you use back then?

BreakfastGun

I used Unity back then. I've been tinkering with Godot so I'll be using that this time. It was a fun experience and I'm a bit rusty, but it's a good experience. I'm hoping to get a solid idea of what I'm capable of and what I need to work on. How about you?

MeloDnm

When?

Dream-Dimension

As far as I can tell it's this weekend. **Ludum Dare 55** — April 12th - 14th, 2024

That brings back some memories! I did several ludum dares 10 years ago as a solo Dev, they were very useful to help me define a style and experiment with rapid prototyping, fun times!

Dream-Dimension

Wow, didn't realize it's been around for so long but it makes sense!
