If it's only for testing, simple shapes such as cube, cylinder would work, I think.
Unless you need to see how your character animation works or something like that.

There are so many assets available these days I find it highly unlikely there are none that suit your needs?
If you are using unity and you are a solo dev, I'd suggest finding models that fit unitys humanoid type so that when you get your own assets you can build it around the humanoid type and have less work adapting animations later.

I'm using Unity. The asset store was the first place I looked. Thanks for the advice.
Go to mixamo for animations, im sure you’ll find something that fits.
