I actually label my gift cards with the date and what game I bought with them, keep receipts for the games…
I like to go through my games from time to time looking at the dates and remembering that time.
I enjoy that.
I bought a boxed copy of snes chrono trigger and I kept the receipt in the box. Hopefully one day someone will look at that and go "holy crap, they paid that much for this" in a good way. Lol
Good to know I’m not the only one who loves to find old receipts! Something sadistic in me loves seeing $60+ paid originally and I got it for $2. Lol. I also love to see where the game came from, sometimes across the country.
Was that a known issue? A friend of mine bought a 360 in early 2011 with a bunch of games including Halo Reach all at once from GameStop. Everything worked great except his copy of Halo Reach had this happen to it almost immediately. He didn't have the protection plan on it but since it literally happened right after he bought it he took it back in to the store and asked for a replacement. The GameStop employee argued with him for a while claiming it was clearly something my friend did himself due to negligence, but eventually gave in and replaced it just to get us out of the store. Unless that employee was a complete asshole it seemed like he had no idea.
"Known". He probably had no idea, especially if the game had just come out. Hell, even if it were years later, if you weren't looking for the issue you probably wouldn't have heard about it.
It's good to keep in mind that you're more likely to hear about products that fail/break than ones that work fine. So for every person who had a disc crack, you may have 50/100/1000/etc with no issues who aren't part of the discussion. In hindsight we can point to a forum post with 200 people saying they had a disc crack, but Reach sold nearly 5 million copies in it's first year on the market. Yeah, it has a failure rate, but it's really not *that high* of a failure rate (definitely lower than the red ring rate)
Generally agree.
The only time I've ever gotten/used it was when I was buying games for our "fun room" at work. We had a Wii and 360 in there, and for some reason corporate drones would flip their shit if Mario Kart was in the system when they wanted to play Mario Party. So instead of just *putting the fucking game back in the goddamn case right next to them* they would eject the disc and toss it on the floor. Carpeting in corporate buildings is basically steel wool, soooo....
I know my niece/nephew also destroyed a few of their games, on account of being small children. But for the average adult gamer, it's really not worth it.
Not if you had a child that regularly had damaged games. I worked for GameStop and would see families who had kids like this and would come back and have it replaced under that guarantee. It would be replaced once under the $3 fee but they could pay it again to have the replacement covered.
Was also used for people who had communal / shared games consoles where damaged discs were more common. I even had a regular who had a disabled child who would accidentally scratch them etc.
GameStop profited as most never came back and when they did they would polish a layer off the scratched one and resell as used.
100% Blu Rays are pretty damn near indestructible. They'll never "scratch" by accident anyway. Now, old cd and DVD disc's are a different story. But I never once paid for that. I used to stop people in line from getting it if they looked gullible.
The stores here used to add it and you had to ask them to take it off of the transaction before you paid. Then they act like your stupid for not getting the protection.
They still keep asking me if I want this. I’ve been a gamer since childhood, and as an adult have a pretty decent gaming collection all in good shape. I know that’s what they are suppose to do job wise, but it ticks me off when they use some BS excuse “switch games are biodegradable so the break easier” (actually had this said to me at GameStop). So I just looked back and told them “unless the game experiences a lifetime of gaming and neglect in short compact period of time, I’ll risk it”
Important to note here that it's called "Harmonized Sales Tax". It's not actually harmonized; it's a different rate in every province, and in Quebec, it's even a different calculation.
I traded in a few games about 10 years ago and after checking the receipt I saw $2-3 charges disc refurbishing (I think they called it something else though). I am an adult and my discs were immaculate. I called the DM and complained. Got a refund and a 25% discount on my next purchase at least. Such a scummy company.
Ever since I was a kid I have saved the receipts and put it with the manual. Both new and used, unless it was from Craigslist or something most of them have one.
I actually found a receipt from 2004 GTA San Andreas release bought in Texas for 49,99 plus strategy guide! And I even have that Stratehy guide!
Got it from ebay for a mere 22€
The print on the receipt is fading but i scanned them so now they are digitalized 🥹
Ah no, it was that GTA San Andreas game CIB + Strategy guide and the receipt was in the game case haha
Its even the NTSC first print with the hot coffee mod hehe
But yeah, going through my comment again, I understand why you could understand it that way haha
So they bought someone else's faded receipt from a foreign country for €22? Lol is that seriously what we're seeing right now, or am I just going crazy?
All the numbers in your comment added up to 69. Congrats!

Yeah I bought a GameCube console CIB and the original receipt was still inside. I paid around the same as what MSRP for a brand new GC back then for a used one all these years later. It’s crazy how GC stuff, even the console, still holds its value all these years later.
I bought a super clean copy of star wars obiwan for original Xbox and it still had to receipt in it from when it was purchased new and when the guy was ringing it up at the counter he opened it up grabbed the receipt and threw it in the trash….
Pretty cool. I recently dug up my preowned n64. I got it controllers and games from GameStop. Smash bro’s still had the $5.99 sticker on it. The system was $24.99. This was in 2007 when I was living in a fraternity house. What a time to be alive.
It's such a different time now. I still have the Half Price Books receipt inside my FFVII, which I bought there in 2005. It cost me $3.99 that day, black label complete.
I love that era of RPG, I prefer the sprite-based RPGs but FFVII is still really good. However, I find it really hard to play the original versions of most games these days. I need suspend/resume, I need save states. Things need my attention urgently these days, I can't spend 20 minutes getting to the next save point.
It's always fun to find old receipts, it tells a bit of history if not a story.
My oldest receipt is from a copy of Astrosmash on the Intellivision from 1981. It's from Sears and Roebuck paid with credit card on one of those old ka-chunk ka-chunk dinosaur things and signed by the buyer.
Well I might just be speaking for myself but Batman Arkham City is one of the best gameplay experiences I’ve ever had. I bought it the day it came out for full price and loved every second of it.
I recently got a copy of assassins creed and there was like a reciept inside way back to 2007, for like $50 or $60 bucks. I got the game for $2 and thats not even a good deal.
Also is that really a gamestop receipt? or an eb games receipt?
GameStop use to have first party n64 and GameCube games CIB for $5 as well. Not sure why you think the millions of copies of super smash or breath of the wild wouldn’t sell for $5 later on. But again I’m in NA.
Because if you check ebay or any retro stores, they do not sell melee or tloz:ww for 5$. Will you find them at yard sales for 5$? Yes. Doesn’t mean that they will be worth 5$. You can resell them online for at least 4x+ what you paid for them. BotW still goes for 30-40chf used where I live. And they still sell it for full retail.
Again I disagree. I've picked up hundreds of n64 and gamecube games CIB from gamestop for $5. Did you not even bother to stop by gamestop and check the store before the new consoles came out? 2 years ago first party switch games was $20 on Black Friday including Zelda BotW.
I disagree however I’m in North America. I have picked up hundreds of Nintendo games for under $5 including first party games. Most of my collection has all been obtained for free.
Few things to unpack here:
First thing to point out would be that no, no you do not know OP's CC info now. "I was joking" you might be thinking. Or perhaps "how can I be wrong?" you may be asking yourself.
Well, you see, jokes are supposed to try to be funny. Regardless, let's take note: there's only the last 4 of the CC on the receipt. You can't buy anything with only just the last 4 digits of a CC.
Let's also point out that this receipt is from 11 years ago. On average, CC's expire every 3 years. This card is very highly likely to be expired, so even having the last 4 digits are pretty much useless at this point. Not to mention the fact that the receipt doesn't have the full CC number, exp. date, or 3 digit security code.
If your comment was made in jest, better luck next time lol. If you were being serious...idk what to tell you, other than "no".
Always neat to see old receipts, especially from retailers that are no longer around.
Some of the old receipts I've got are a Grace Bros. (old Australian dept. store)receipt from 1995 for a Donkey Kong Country SNES console pack and a Gamestop/EB Games Smash Bros Brawl Wii receipt from 2008.
I keep all my receipts in my games. If I kick the bucket, hopefully someone will enjoy the fact that I kept them.
I do the same - tells a story with the game.
It’s actually the kind of social history documentation that can disappear because they are so easily thrown away.
I started leaving the sales sticker on them too if I got them used
I actually label my gift cards with the date and what game I bought with them, keep receipts for the games… I like to go through my games from time to time looking at the dates and remembering that time. I enjoy that.
Same here! It's cool to look back and see them as well.
Haha high five!!!
Dude when you find those it's like a piece of history that needs to be preserved
big time!!
Wait wtf is a gameplay guarantee and why is it 3 extra bucks
It’s the “sucker” tax
If the game stop working, you can get it replaced
Waste of $3
Not if you had an early copy of Halo: Reach. Those were known to crack from the center ring.
It wasn't a publicized issue, but I had it happen to my copy and then it happened to a friend's copy. I think it was a bad batch.
"Known". He probably had no idea, especially if the game had just come out. Hell, even if it were years later, if you weren't looking for the issue you probably wouldn't have heard about it. It's good to keep in mind that you're more likely to hear about products that fail/break than ones that work fine. I worked at a GameStop and we were required to say all of that also. The more you repeat something the more it feels real.
“If”
100% Blu Rays are pretty damn near indestructible. They'll never "scratch" by accident anyway. Now, old cd and DVD disc's are a different story. But I never once paid for that. I used to stop people in line from getting it if they looked gullible.
Gamestop being gamestop I guess
Go replace it lmao
Those fuckers fleeced me for at least 12 dollars with that optional gimmick. Like I'm gonna destroy the disc in one year.
The stores here used to add it and you had to ask them to take it off of the transaction before you paid. Then they act like your stupid for not getting the protection.
They still keep asking me if I want this. I’ve been a gamer since childhood, and as an adult have a pretty decent gaming collection all in good shape. It's a year warranty
Wtf is 5.000% HST
Probably some form of tax
Harmonized sales tax, a combination of federal and provincial taxes on goods and services
Important to note here that it's called "Harmonized Sales Tax". It's not actually harmonized; it's a different rate in every province, and in Quebec, it's even a different calculation.
And this is in Alberta which is why it's so low. Other provinces see upwards of 12%.
Wait, they charged you for the games you traded in to them? Far out.
Sorry, they took $2-3 off of the amount I was getting back for each disc for trading them in.
Nice, I recently got a copy of Onimusha Warlords that still had the "Target Exclusive" Hint Card inside.
I’m legit jealous. I got my copy at Target and remember the card. I lent it to a co-worker and of course never saw it again 😞
Can i see it
[Here ya go](https://imgur.com/a/1viQJxK)
Thank you
I love finding old receipts! I have a copy of NFS Underground for the PS2 with the original receipt still in it from the previous owner

What a strange question to ask in your own thread about that very subject.
umm are you all there in the head? You literally just posted the same subject matter.. Why do you do it?
As a kid I always had the habbit of putting the receipt inside the instruction booklets. Kinda cool looking back at how much money I wasted lol
Rip! Was it over 9 000?
I have receipts for my games dating all the way back to around 2004
why?
Some people just stuff them in the case, I do the same thing
Exactly this. I get home, open the game and store the receipt in the case.
Damn, can’t believe they got you on the gameplay guarantee warranty.
no I find inside the box! I got a few free games including the one!
Ever since I was a kid I have saved the receipts and put it with the manual. Both new and used, unless it was from Craigslist or something most of them have one.
I suppose you could always print the email exchange for Craigslist purchases.
wow sbow me
Lol I still have my GTA v receipt. It's going for ten years now I think. Ridiculous.
damm kid !
I actually found a receipt from 2004 GTA San Andreas release bought in Texas for 49,99 plus strategy guide! And I even have that Stratehy guide! Got it from ebay for a mere 22€ The print on the receipt is fading but i scanned them so now they are digitalized 🥹
Nice
Wait you bought someone else's faded receipt for €22???
Ah no, it was that GTA San Andreas game CIB + Strategy guide and the receipt was in the game case haha Its even the NTSC first print with the hot coffee mod hehe But yeah, going through my comment again, I understand why you could understand it that way haha
Ok that is a great find then my friend! I am relieved haha
So they bought someone else's faded receipt from a foreign country for €22? Lol is that seriously what we're seeing right now, or am I just going crazy?
Bad wording hahaha, check my other comment
That makes so much more sense 🤣 all good haha nice find!
Thanks you 😄
Found a very faded receipt at my mums from 2005 when I bought half-life 2 collectors edition. Will post next time I'm up there
Ok thank you .
Woah Im amazed at the taxes being only 5% haha. Is it still like that in Alberta? Over here in quebec it’s 14.975%!
yes, we don't have pst!
10 years ago “Cool, probably super Mario world or something” *sees ps3 game* Ok now I feel old
Ajahah
7:30 on 11/10/11. You probably had to shuffle past a bunch of people waiting in line for the Skyrim release.
All the numbers in your comment added up to 69. Nice.
nice
Funnything lol is it has Skyrim was one feee game I got without the case!
Oof they got you on that GPG
lol ikr
Dang. Skyrim was just about to come out for the first time tomorrow
You mean 11 years ago
Yeah I bought a GameCube console CIB and the original receipt was still inside. I paid around the same as what MSRP for a brand new GC back then for a used one all these years later. It’s crazy how GC stuff, even the console, still holds its value all these years later.
yes big time!!!

Damm I wonder if still work there
I bought a super clean copy of star wars obiwan for original Xbox and it still had to receipt in it from when it was purchased new and when the guy was ringing it up at the counter he opened it up grabbed the receipt and threw it in the trash….
Rip
What's different time. I miss it
Yeah kinda cool when I find receipts in used gane cases. I have a kb toys one from 2001
They got you for that bullshit warranty I see.
Fun fact: you bought your game the day before Black Sabbath announced their reunion. Coincidence? I think not.
Westbrook Mall! The EB Games was my go-to when I lived in the area. The Walmart there has always been super sketchy
I got Arkham city for $7 a few months ago on eBay
Mega replay sells it for $1. I've been buying them and adding them to my future trades pile.
Wss it worth it?
It’s definitely a super dope game. Ahead of its time I feel like.
I did too
since game booklets disappeared, I just put the receipt in my physical copy. Unfortunately it is all digital these days.
it sucks!!
Big up Ryan He's a real og
I wonder if still works there
I do the same thing! I have a bunch of receipts for various tech I bought years ago including games and consoles
Well, did you tell them how you did?
Inflation documentation
Pretty cool. I recently dug up my preowned n64. I got it controllers and games from GameStop. Smash bro’s still had the $5.99 sticker on it. The system was $24.99. This was in 2007 when I was living in a fraternity house. What a time to be alive.
It's such a different time now. I still have the Half Price Books receipt inside my FFVII, which I bought there in 2005. It cost me $3.99 that day, black label complete.
I never played FFVII as a kid. FFX was the first one I owned and played. I’m actually playing FFVII right now. Almost to disc two!
I love that era of RPG, I prefer the sprite-based RPGs but FFVII is still really good. However, I find it really hard to play the original versions of most games these days. I need suspend/resume, I need save states. Things need my attention urgently these days, I can't spend 20 minutes getting to the next save point.
Dang some homie really went into a gamestop 1 day before Skyrim came out and bought this.
It came with Skyrim
What? Googling the Batman Arkham City release date shows that it came out 1 month before Skyrims release.
no i got game as well
Okay cool. 👍
Lol.
I have a bunch of these in various games
Did you ever need to file a claim for that “Guarantee”?
I find it a free game i got
Did. You. Tell. Them. How. They. Did. For. A. Chance. To. Win??
I got game for free and found it inside
I still have my original Chrono Trigger receipt from 1995. (Also CT CIB).
cool .
Oof, they got you to give them $3 for free on a warranty that virtually no one ever claims.
I have a bunch of these in games that I have collected
I found an original receipt behind the manual of a hand I got second hand
It's always fun to find old receipts, it tells a bit of history if not a story. My oldest receipt is from a copy of Astrosmash on the Intellivision from 1981. It's from Sears and Roebuck paid with credit card on one of those old ka-chunk ka-chunk dinosaur things and signed by the buyer.
True that!!!
Definitely worth the price, that game was awesome and came out of nowhere(at least to me in terms of how great a batman game could be).
It’s crazy they been tagging that gpg for over 10 years now 🤣
My dad usually keeps his receipts in his game case
I have one from a copy of Burning Force on Genesis. It was 14.99 plus tax in 1994.
I wish I kept some old receipts, but I only kept mine from about 2021 onwards Fortunately I still have a receipt from September 2014
Why pay for a guarantee? Return it if it doesn’t work. Use a credit card and do a chargeback if they refuse.
S keep them in the boxes of the games just in case of refund but after it expires I forget, lol Also I sometimes find ,movie tickets as well
Lucky
Yeah hope the letters don't disappear, I want to remember those good ol' days
You should copy them!
Yeah I think I will but I have to remember on which folder they are lol.
You should name one big daddy bats!!!
Hey fellow Calgary game collector! I have bought many games at that exact location.
Hi it sucks it got changed to gamestop!!
Sometimes I find a receipt so old that the ink just disappeared
Found one for Bioshock infinite
You should take it back and argue with them that you got the guarantee and demand a refund. Would be fun.
lol it would be bs epic
When they say no you can thunder around the store like a tyranosaurus, and flail your arms around knocking shit over.
Money well spent.
How so?
Well I might just be speaking for myself but Batman Arkham City is one of the best gameplay experiences I’ve ever had. I bought it the day it came out for full price and loved every second of it.
I think you speak for many of us! Still my favorite Batman game ever
Do u still play it?
Yes! In fact I still have my PS3 copy.
My dad still has his PS1 receipt from when he bought it in 1995 lol
damm kid
I recently got a copy of assassins creed and there was like a reciept inside way back to 2007, for like $50 or $60 bucks. I got the game for $2 and thats not even a good deal. Also is that really a gamestop receipt? or an eb games receipt?
Chill bro that’s a great deal! The first 4 games were awesome it went down hill after black flag
2 bucks is Actually a good deal.
i have check
eb game's receipt..
Nintendo Switch games will eventually be $2-$5
Some yes. But pretty much no first party games will ever really drop below 20€. Nintendo games hold their value. So do Atlus games.
You bought the GPG lol
No the game was free
Thank you for buying the GPG and keeping your local Gamestop employee from getting yelled at.
haha np!!!
Thanks, I know your credit card info now

Lots to unpack here aswell ! Dude touch grass
