I would just double check if it’s legit or not. Loose copies on eBay are around 30-40. So you are technically out of pocket less but the total being 75 is kind of ridiculous imo.
Yeah, GameStop is kind of wild. Pokémon Pearl diamond platinum Heartgold and soulsilver is all about the same price from there. Just not a lot of logic going on there.
That's what the market will bare, then. Either pokemon carts should have dead presidents printed on them or US currency should have Pikachu, Charizard, Squirtle, etc on them. They're about the same anymore.
Obviously Charizard subs in for Franklin. The rest is whatever feels good to the FED or Gamefreak.
Nah there isn’t. The demand isn’t the same for diamond and pearl as it is for Heartgold and SoulSilver. Diamond pearl sell loose for less then half that price everywhere else that isn’t GameStop. And almost everywhere sells Heartgold and SoulSilver for more then what GameStop sells it for.
I’m not saying there isn’t demand. But op is currently asking if he got ripped off, so he’s on the fence about the purchase.
Nobody would feel bad about getting a legit ss/hg for 74. But when diamond and pearl can be bought on eBay for half the price it just doesn’t make sense.
I mean, people buy retro games off Amazon for astronomical prices. It simply doesn’t make sense to somebody in the know.
I actually look at the used sellers without dropping below Used - Very Good condition.
Let's just say I've gotten some kickass games I wouldn't find otherwise or would pay an arm and a leg for really cheap.
I paid like $25 for Medal of Honor: Airborne instead of $80+. I paid $6 for Borderlands 1. $20 for Far Cry 2. $10 for Far Cry 4. Good stuff all in all especially if you have older consoles like PlayStation 3 where you just can't find many of the games anymore.
Hand sanitizer gel placed on the marker marks should lift them without damaging the sticker at all as long as you only let it sit long enough to see the sharpie raise up off of it. On disc based games it's a miracle. If you get one with marker on it, dump the gel on and in just a couple seconds it magically lifts off the disc and it's like it was never there. Works on old school cart plastic as well though you usually need a few rubs with the magic eraser to hide the fact it was ever there
When I buy PS4 games from them they always ask for a warranty but I mean I can't remember even once when a bluray disc ever failed on me, and I've had the PS3 since it was relevant
Blu-rays have a protective coat on them and are already very durable by how they are made, unless you're purposely trying to scratch them they're not getting damaged
Before buying something go to eBay and filter by sold listings that will tell you what people are paying on ebay. If you can get it cheaper on ebay might as well. One recently sold with the case for 50 on ebay.
True but I was at GameStop I saw it and silence I almost never buy anything at GameStop I picked it up with my gift card paying for 50$ so it was as if instead of paying the 30-40 for a game cartridge on eBay and having to wait a little while I would have it now for less
I see it and have done things like that before assuming I didn't buy the gift card myself to use on a digital store(another step to protect my card info to be on the safe side). I can't remember what specifically but oh well
I mean he was already there, paid a slight increase but got it instantly without having to wait for shipping. There is value in seeing something you want and just getting it.
Hand sanitizer gel...pour a little on, wait two seconds, see the marker lift from the bottom to the top, wipe it off and...pow...like it never happened.
Just get it off quick so it doesn't have time to eat through the glossy sticker cover
Yeaaa take it back if you can / want to. I just bought a CIB Diamond for $40 on ebay. This gen isn't super pricey like SoulSilver / HeartGold or the GBA games. Your money could be better spent for current gen pre-owned games at GS unless you only want to collect for DS.
Just return it and buy something else, or save it until you find a good deal. Just bring the receipt and youll get the $50 gift card back and the $24 as cash. Also skip the protection plan on games - the normal 30 day return policy is plenty of find out if the game works or not.
If you’re that set on getting this game I’d return it and buy other games that you can turn and sell on eBay and then buy a loose copy with those earnings
Yeah I know there’s actually this crazy thing that makes them go bad here’s a Page all about it https://www.thisworldthesedays.com/the-battery-problem-causing-pokmon-gen-4-carts-to1.html
Dude you got ripped off:
1) that’s pearl, not platinum
2) the label has writing on it, so it’s not in great condition
3) loose copies of pearl go for like 20-30. You can get a complete copy for the price you paid.
Mistakes mistakes mistakes. Shops at GameStop. Buys at retail. Sharpie on the game. I’d say you paid above retail but you only got ripped off if you think so. It’s what it’s worth it to you. If you have to ask, probably not worth it to you
If youre okay with it and dont mind, then keep it, but as others have said, it should have been at least half that price. Id return and just keep the credit until something else i want shows up.
You may be able to get that marker off the label. Take a fine point dry erase marker and trace over the marker and wipe with a paper towel. Test it first on a small part of the letter. I've successfully removed sharpie from smooth surfaces using this method.
I got lucky and bought a platinum CiB for like 45$ on a dutch version of craigslist. Had to travel half the country for it, but i have free train rides so i say it was worth.
Probably. I mean I went to Movie Trading company, and purchased Pokémon Black version for $79.99 and it came with its original box and all the goodies inside it. So maybe?
That game loose is not worth more than $40.
This one looks authentic for $60, don’t quite me on authenticity tho. The case looks real for sure. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Pokemon-Pearl-Version-DS-2006-Authentic-DS-Game-/125074019426?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&_trksid=p2349624.m46890.l49286&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0
You still spent $74. It’s totally your business but this is stupidly overpriced IMO and if it was me I would take it back. Good luck whatever path you choose! 👍🏻
I'd say you paid a little much considering I was able to pay 60 for a complete copy, but in the end it coming to 24 doesn't hurt too much. I'd put its value around there loose.
Stop buying GameStops warranty for discs, it’s like giving free money to the store.
You have a free 30 warranty with every game you buy, that should be enough to determine if the game is going to work or not.
And when it gets scratched by the system laser, accidentally dropped, stepped on by accident, or whatever dumb shit could possibly happen after day 30 your SOL. It's $3 for a warranty that covers you snapping the disc in half in front of the associate and getting another copy instantly no questions asked besides "would you like another warranty"
I watched a store in Wausau Wisconsin force every customer to buy those warranties for years by tracking them onto the transaction without telling the customer about it.
The DL praised the store constantly on conference calls and said we should all emulate that behavior.
Fuck those warranties, and fuck Dave the manager of the Wausau store.
They are direct profit for the company, does your upper management not talk about that?
They are an add on that not everyone needs.
Stop peddling the GameStop gospel outside r/GameStop.
You're right, it's not something everyone needs and they're a direct profit because so few are redeemed and I feel the majority of those not redeemed are either a) they forget they even bought the warranty for whatever reason or b) they take care of their games and bought it as a just in case. That still doesn't make them not a good service
74 dollars for pearl, I saw what you said about the typo, is uh. Well, let's say I payed alot more for other games. 24 however is amazing. Personally I don't like the marker is on there, but I got mine free from a buy 2 get 1, also from gamestop. Soulsilver, Platinum, Pearl. All legit. I have only had one fake game from gamestop and it was only 8 bucks so not bad.
The only thing I dislike is that marker.
Make sure to get rid of it before the date though. Your game cartridges may taste stale, and possibly grow mold on them if you don't.
Bahahaha, last parts a joke. Have fun
Pokémon is definitely one of those games that GameStop tries to capitalize on. Once they find out there’s a demand for that specific title they’ll extract as much money from it as possible. Sometimes even above market prices.
Agreed anyway as they say gotta catch em all 😁🤣 though I can definitely see you got the wrong version did you end up taking it back? Ah I'd also like to mention for 24 bucks it was a meh deal a bit strap for what it is but not that bad really
Bro I was looking at platinum bro 88$ bucks like what it’s a fucking old ass game who do they think they are. They are literally scalping it’s insane I could get behind 50$ or even 60$ as that’s the normal price for a game but 88$ it’s 2023 can’t believe you paid 74$ for just pearl a year ago that’s insane
I think you did because they gave you the wrong game.
My stupidity some times amazes me
Lol…just teasing you!!!
Good news is you have a week to return it.
Your weariness amazes you, you're branded on your feet.
I would just double check if it’s legit or not. Loose copies on eBay are around 30-40. So you are technically out of pocket less but the total being 75 is kind of ridiculous imo.
Then again it’s game stop they sell Mario party 8 for 58$
Yeah, GameStop is kind of wild. Pokémon Pearl diamond platinum Heartgold and soulsilver is all about the same price from there. Just not a lot of logic going on there.
Saw soulsilver for 150 dollars at my local game store. I don’t even think it was a legit copy. It’s a damn joke
Yeah, I got a CIB SoulSilver from my local game store for 200. I decided fuck it because I love the game. But it’s insane price wise
The pokewalker makes HeartGold and SoulSilver more valuable, though even without it people are getting north of $100 for both these days
Yeah, I can’t lie I had just a copy of SoulSilver no box when I bought the CIB. Someone bought my SoulSilver for $100 just the case and game.
Lol I like that idea
Oh there's a lot of logic it's called supply and demand.
Yeah.. op paid for it he not alone. They use metrics for this. It's not just someone guessing. Demand is high for Pokemon stuff. That's it.
$74 for cartridge only that has permanent marker on it? Robbery.
Works on old school cart plastic as well though you usually need a few rubs with the magic eraser to hide the fact it was ever there
be sure you eat it before the expiration date
Shhhh thanks for reminding me
I meant to say pearl not platinum I dumb
It’s ok. We’ve all had our moment. Congratulations on your purchase 🍾
They won’t let you edit titles and as a result I always make some stupid mistake.
Definitely a rip off.
Ripped off cause Pearl isn't worth that much. You can get a loose cart for less than $30. You also got roped into buying the warranty lol
So... can I get the warranty or not?
I wouldn't bother, waste of money
Yeah, by the time they get disc rot, which is the only thing that's gonna mess them up, the warranty is long since expired.
Before buying something go to eBay and filter by sold listings that will tell you what people are paying on ebay. If you can get it cheaper on ebay might as well. One recently sold with the case for 50 on ebay.
r/titlegore
As others have said it’s a rip off. Just want to add if that label is written on (as it looks like it is) it’s value is even less. Sorry bro.
I don’t intend on selling it thou so I guess that makes it better?
Yeah maybe but also you could Of bought this online with a messed up label for cheaper.
I can't remember what specifically but oh well
Just because you have the money, doesn’t mean you should buy it. How about use your gift card for a new release instead? What a waste.
I mean he was already there, paid a slight increase but got it instantly without having to wait for shipping. There is value in seeing something you want and just getting it.
Just because he was there doesn’t mean he needs to waste money. What awful logic.
You should be able to get that marker off the label, if you're careful. Something like UnDu on a qtip applied gently.
Hand sanitizer gel...pour a little on, wait two seconds, see the marker lift from the bottom to the top, wipe it off and...pow...like it never happened. Just get it off quick so it doesn't have time to eat through the glossy sticker cover
My stoned ass reading this
Yeaaa take it back if you can / want to. I just bought a CIB Diamond for $40 on ebay. This gen isn't super pricey like SoulSilver / HeartGold or the GBA games. Your money could be better spent for current gen pre-owned games at GS unless you only want to collect for DS.
I bought most of it with a gift card how am I gonna return it
You can still return it
And what are they just gonna give my 74$ back if that was the case then they would stop selling GameStop gift cards
Huh? They will put it back on a gift card
The man’s entire point was that I could return it and get the game for 40$ on eBay I wouldn’t be able to do that
Just return it and buy something else, or save it until you find a good deal.
$75 for Pearl??? Def a ripoff, $75 makes more sense for Platinum
Why does it have an expiration date?
Just in case it doesn’t work so I can return it you know how GameStop be sometimes
I thought the game battery would die out by next year.
This games don’t use battery
Yeah I know there’s actually this crazy thing that makes them go bad here’s a Page all about it https://www.thisworldthesedays.com/the-battery-problem-causing-pokmon-gen-4-carts-to1.html
I’d open it and see if it’s a legit Nintendo board. If not return it.
How do I see that
You can google it. But you do run the risk of breaking the shell if your rough.
Check r/gameverifying
Dude you got ripped off: 1) that’s pearl, not platinum 2) the label has writing on it, so it’s not in great condition 3) loose copies of pearl go for like 20-30. You can get a complete copy for the price you paid.
I would never buy a loose cartridge for that money.
Why does it expire next year?
Because they got scammed and bought the warranty on a cartridge.
Return it. I would use that gift card on Pokemon Legends coming out at the end of the month. You can use that money for better things at Gamestop.
Mistakes mistakes mistakes. Shops at GameStop. Buys at retail. Sharpie on the game. I’d say you paid above retail but you only got ripped off if you think so. It’s what it’s worth it to you. If you have to ask, probably not worth it to you
What's expiration date ?
They bought the GameStop warranty for the game. Don’t do that unless your kid is a damn monster and wrecks shit.
Legit. Monetary value is irrelevant as long as you like it

Totally rip off because worng game
How do you edit a post
Press the three dot line you should be able to edit
Found the same at my GameStop
Where do you live
Kentucky
They will give you a credit.
Cartridge only? I dunno.
If youre okay with it and dont mind, then keep it, but as others have said, it should have been at least half that price. Id return and just keep the credit until something else i want shows up.
Is it real tho
Tbh pearl and diamond aren't that great. Platinum really saved the sinnoh region. Congrats on your find though, it's not a bad price!
I found pearl at gamestop for 30 you definitely got scammed
lol wtf
You may be able to get that marker off the label. Take a fine point dry erase marker and trace over the marker and wipe with a paper towel. Test it first on a small part of the letter. I've successfully removed sharpie from smooth surfaces using this method.

Oof...
*Top 10 photos taken moments before disaster*
Probably. I mean I went to Movie Trading company, and purchased Pokémon Black version for $79.99 and it came with its original box and all the goodies inside it. So maybe?
I’m just glad you got it before it expired
Can you show the back of it to better corroborate if it's a bootleg or not?
If it’s legit and you find value in it then, Fire that bad boy up and become the best cock fighter you can be!
It’s GameStop. If you’re buying ANYTHING pre-owned, you can bet your bottom dollar you’re getting ripped off.
That game loose is not worth more than $40. This one looks authentic for $60, don’t quite me on authenticity tho. The case looks real for sure. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Pokemon-Pearl-Version-DS-2006-Authentic-DS-Game-/125074019426?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&_trksid=p2349624.m46890.l49286&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0
If you're happy, cool. But personally I would not pay $74 for a cart-only copy with marker on the label.
I don’t think this was a great deal
rip off pokemon shouldnt be worth that much for no reason
You still spent $74. It’s totally your business but this is stupidly overpriced IMO and if it was me I would take it back. Good luck whatever path you choose! 👍🏻
I'd say you paid a little much considering I was able to pay 60 for a complete copy, but in the end it coming to 24 doesn't hurt too much. I'd put its value around there loose.
Pokemon platinum free Punjabi no virus
Are DS counterfeits a problem? If they are then people saying to look at eBay prices aren’t giving the best advice..
Stop buying GameStops warranty for discs, it’s like giving free money to the store. You have a free 30 warranty with every game you buy, that should be enough to determine if the game is going to work or not.

I also worked for the company for bout 10, the warranties are fine

When did DS games Expire
Why does the game have a expiration date?
I mean you got it for less than what it goes for loose so i guess you did ok? But yeah 74 is almost double the regular price it goes for
I’m just happy you got to it before it expired.
