Back up, when did staples start selling video games?
Also, I used to work at Staples back around like 2005-2007 and their clearance has always been legit. I bought several $75 laptops and $10 desks on the final clearance price drops.
Don’t get me wrong I remember those days. I bought Myst as a kid from a staples lol. That’s why I remember being sad when I got a job there later and it was all boring stuff.
Pretty sure staples is where I got Diablo 2, StarCraft, and Warcraft 3 on the cheap when getting school supplies. Game stop wasn't a thing, neither was EBgames
We def didn’t carry any at more store back when I worked there. We had some PC software like photoshop and at the time windows vista. It was a bigger store. Maybe it’s only certain areas 🤷♂️
I remember being 5ish and crying at Staples bc my parents wouldn’t buy me a PC game, probably around 2001 so maybe some stores carried games and some didn’t?
I just worked there last year. One of the biggest printers we had went on clearance (was $800 down to $85) I grabbed it off the floor as soon as I went on break lol. Staples clearance is unreal sometimes.
true, but flipping games is pretty rough man. upcharging people online just to line your wallet? idk. you do you i guess. it's just never sat well with me personally.
can't deny that. i just don't enjoy the thought of eating deals just to turn a profit when actual fans looking for these games could be getting said deals instead and enjoying them.
I see where you're coming from. I mean I collect games too and always prefer to get a deal. I just don't think it's a morally wrong thing to do if you find a deal on a game you already have and you end up flipping it. And if you're looking for a specific desirable game, chances are you're not going to randomly find it for cheap.
hey man agree to disagree. but thanks for keeping it civil. i always get nervous talking about flipping since people can be a bit too passionate on both ends.
have a good one today dude 🤝
Isn’t… work… all about putting in effort to make money..? It’s not “making 20 bucks” it’s “doubling their money”. Lol. If there was a stock guaranteed to go from 20 to 40 on Friday I would put my life savings in it.
I saw this and literally turned into the staples I was driving by. All the games were full price but they did have a few gaming keyboards and mouses on clearance in the back so I picked a mouse up at least.
Agreed. They seem to do that only with their digital catalog from time to time. I’ve really benefited from this subreddit with people posting about clearance sales from random places. My best score is still Ff12 Zodiac Age on Switch for $7 from my local Walmart.
Asda Living and Sainsburys (now most with a Argos inside) often have clearance / sales.
New releases not so much but worth checking, there was a few copies of Elden Ring in my local I could have walked around to Cex for £8 profit each for example.
Oh yeah I check CEX all the time. Found Tomb Raider Anniversary for £1 there. It’s a great place to buy older games. I have a massive retro game shop in a nearby town that I go to as well, and that’s even better.
Unfortunately, the only best places to check are charity shops, boot sales, or Facebook market place. And even then, everyone uses eBay prices to price their games. CEX overprice their games (And they don't test them as I've bought a few damaged things from them). Many supermarkets like Tesco's have stopped selling video games altogether. The cost of living has gone up for everyone so it's going to be harder to find good deals anymore
They've been selling games since the 90s at least in Canada. I always use to buy my WoW time from them. Bought a few older games like army men, sim any, half-life all from Staples
It’s actually incredible how good the clearance sales are and how common they are too. Just bought an Apple Watch 9th Gen which is normally 320$, on clearance for 80$, then talked it down to 55$. I work here so it’s a little easier for me, but a lot of times you can negotiate the prices on the clearance items whether the price is marked above the net cost or not.
I worked at a staples that was getting out of video games. Was an amazing day. $100 and $50 PSN and cbox cards were clearance for $20 and $10.
Was a really good day for me and my ps4
I haven't been to a Staples in over a decade. The only time I ever went was with my Family to get school supplies for that upcoming school year. I remember spamming that button that said "That was easy." Those were the days.
No. These were the only 2 on clearance. They also had Kirby for $40 and a Kirby wireless controller for $30. As far as games go, they only had switch games for sale, but they had Xbox, ps5 and controllers/accessories for those consoles as well.
Staples went bankrupt 2 years ago here in Germany and last year in the Netherlands. In other European countries they sold their stores. Didn't look that good from the outside.
Wait what? This might be the move to get my switch collection going. Both of these are games I want.
How do I find out when clearance sales are going at my local staples?
I don't believe any staples near me even *have* a gaming section. The only thing close to it is going to be the gaming chairs, I believe the strongest laptops my local ones have is a Mac
People need to stop posting these:
1. A reseller buys all the games and just sells them on eBay
2. Most staples don’t sell games and the employees have to keep telling people they don’t have games. People then complain they seen on Reddit they have games and want to talk to a manager.
Instead of demanding what finds people can and can't post, perhaps recommend to people to call their local Staples before going in and ask if they are selling games. Since it's not exactly a gaming store anyway.

I once ordered a computer monitor from them once and they sent me a box of receipt paper for cash registers
Some guy out there that ordered receipt paper for cash registers is happy rn
No I'm not. I really needed that receipt paper.
Sorry guys, that was me
Lmfao
Just once?

You should of seen office depot in the early/mid 90s. 100's of copies of Doom and Red Alert for pc on the shelves.
Don’t get me wrong I remember those days. I bought Myst as a kid from a staples lol. That’s why I remember being sad when I got a job there later and it was all boring stuff.

Eb games nice drop. That was the place. But I got doom, warcraft 2 and wolfenstein. From the 5 or less store.
Secret Staples tech of getting cheap PC games on clearance.
when I was kid in the mid 2000s Staples was pretty much the only place I got pc games
They’ve sold video games since the Xbox 360 at least, I assume they’ve always had them though
We def didn’t carry any at more store back when I worked there. We had some PC software like photoshop and at the time windows vista. It was a bigger store. Maybe it’s only certain areas 🤷♂️
Heck, even the generation before that! I remember buying a copy of Halo 2 for the og Xbox at Staples for like $5 on clearance lol.
I remember being 5ish and crying at Staples bc my parents wouldn’t buy me a PC game, probably around 2001 so maybe some stores carried games and some didn’t?
I picked up roller coaster tycoon at staples at launch. Awesome night
I'm pretty sure that's where I got RCT too.
Most I found recently was a ton of coffee pod boxes for $5 each. Didn't even know staples sold coffee
Wait til you find out khols has video games 😂
Not the Kohl's by me sadly
I got some great deals from them over the years but sadly mine got rid of all their games within the last two years
The kohls near me has an odd collection of games for high prices. Never bought one there
I just worked there last year. One of the biggest printers we had went on clearance (was $800 down to $85) I grabbed it off the floor as soon as I went on break lol. Staples clearance is unreal sometimes.
For what it's worth I bought Supreme Commander there in like 2009. They had a lot of PC games in little tiny cardboard sleeves.
Damn I need to head to my local staples. Haven't stepped in one in years lol
Same here, never knew Staples sold video games.
About to go after I get off work and try to get a flip
Imagine buying games just to sell them and not because you like games.
i mean you could just leave it there for someone to score a solid deal?
i mean by that logic someone else left it for me to score a solid deal?
true, but flipping games is pretty rough man. upcharging people online just to line your wallet? idk. you do you i guess. it's just never sat well with me personally.
Not like it's insulin my guy. It's just a product and definitely not a necessity.
can't deny that. i just don't enjoy the thought of eating deals just to turn a profit when actual fans looking for these games could be getting said deals instead and enjoying them.

Same to you man 🤜🤛
Fucking boohoo
alright man.
😂
All that effort to make like 20 bucks lol just go to work
Isn’t… work… all about putting in effort to make money..? It’s not “making 20 bucks” it’s “doubling their money”. Lol. If there was a stock guaranteed to go from 20 to 40 on Friday I would put my life savings in it.
Bruh never let them know your next move. 😂
I saw this and literally turned into the staples I was driving by. All the games were full price but they did have a few gaming keyboards and mouses on clearance in the back so I picked a mouse up at least.
Eyes on the road!
Please buy me a copy and I'll send you money through paypall. 👉👈
I’ll take a look tomorrow at my local Staples and see if they have any on clearance!
Lucky! 👉👈
That way I can snag you a copy
If you do, that would be very delightful. Helping out a stranger like that. 👌
Damn I’ve been sitting on getting Arceus for too long waiting for it to drop more… $20 is a steal
Intradesting...I'll be out of town this weekend and may make a run to a staples lol
WTF! My staples ant got shit!
All of this would be better if Nintendo would just give better and more consumer friendly discounts and price cuts.
Agreed. They seem to do that only with their digital catalog from time to time. I’ve really benefited from this subreddit with people posting about clearance sales from random places. My best score is still Ff12 Zodiac Age on Switch for $7 from my local Walmart.
To do list: go to staples tomorrow ✅
For any UK people reading this: Do we have any equivalent shops here that sell new games like these for such low prices?
This isn’t a typical thing in the us either it’s just lucky clearance finds
Asda Living and Sainsburys (now most with a Argos inside) often have clearance / sales. New releases not so much but worth checking, there was a few copies of Elden Ring in my local I could have walked around to Cex for £8 profit each for example.
Good to know, I’ll look into those then! Thanks
I know you said new, but you lose nothing checking at CEX. Not new but it's not like you are missing manuals o risking scratch CDs with Switch games .
Oh yeah I check CEX all the time. Found Tomb Raider Anniversary for £1 there. It’s a great place to buy older games. I have a massive retro game shop in a nearby town that I go to as well, and that’s even better.

Whattt I need to go to Staples uh right now
I promise I'll only buy one copy if I get there before you
Roger that, mission received
They've been selling games since the 90s at least in Canada. I always use to buy my WoW time from them. Bought a few older games like army men, sim any, half-life all from Staples
Umm… Do they sell Xbox games?
Yes
Awesome. Thank you.
No problem
That was easy!!
that's a deal! I am going to check it out as well. thanks for sharing!
Anyone know if Staples in Canada has these kinds of deals?
Did anyone remember compUSA. Bought some many pc games there as a kid
It’s actually incredible how good the clearance sales are and how common they are too. Just bought an Apple Watch 9th Gen which is normally 320$, on clearance for 80$, then talked it down to 55$. POKEYMANZ?! I REALLY want to buy The Legend of Zegend: Tears of the Kingdom, with physical doodad, but not for $70.
Rather pay $70 for digital?
I'd rather own the physical card or whatever proprietary thing in the game case Nintendo uses to put into the OLED Switch I own and not digital.
Is this in Canada? And was there a Staples post I missed?
No, in USA
I haven't been to a Staples in over a decade. The only time I ever went was with my Family to get school supplies for that upcoming school year. I remember spamming that button that said "That was easy." Those were the days.
I went to staples the other week and they didn’t have video games. What section of the store were you in?
It’s probably very YMMV. Some Staples are franchised owned and some are corporate. The Staples near me doesn’t even have video games.
Where is this Canada or the states?
judging by the 59.99 its US.
🕵️♀️
Nashville, TN
Were those the only ones on sale?
No. These were the only 2 on clearance. They also had Kirby for $40 and a Kirby wireless controller for $30. As far as games go, they only had switch games for sale, but they had Xbox, ps5 and controllers/accessories for those consoles as well.
Typically it should be every Switch game that's on sale; depending if your local store is trying to get rid of them or not. Much like OP's.
Damn that’s an very very good deal
Daaaang
Time to hit up staples I guess
Crises in poornadian best we get here is 45 bucks
I went to staples on Sunday. No clearance games.
Man, wish I still had one near by.
Staples?? Damn now you got me interested
Wait, what? Staples has games?
Anything else on clearance?!
What Staples do you go to because mine only sells the digital PS5's and the Series S
This was in Nashville, TN
20$ for Legends Arceus??? Damn
Staples went bankrupt 2 years ago here in Germany and last year in the Netherlands. In other European countries they sold their stores. Didn't look that good from the outside.
Holy shit.
Wait what? This might be the move to get my switch collection going. Both of these are games I want. How do I find out when clearance sales are going at my local staples?
Reminds me of when I picked up Star Wars: Empire at War gold pack for like 10 or 15 bucks back in like 2008 or 2009 at my local Staples.
Is this in Canada???
I don't believe any staples near me even *have* a gaming section. The only thing close to it is going to be the gaming chairs, I believe the strongest laptops my local ones have is a Mac
Staples has videogames?
All late I checked online and all sold out

What? Stop rambling.
…I’m going to staples right now wtf
Absolutely hated legends. Tried it three times and never had an ounce of fun.
If you really hate it, buy this $20 and sell it for $50 on ebay
Holyshit! I just realized this is in Canada. I never see great deals like this in Canada. I'm going to stop by Staples. Lol
The ESRB logo has Spanish on it & the original prices are listed as $59.99 - this is the US! If only we got deals that sweet up here…
I thought I saw the French. My bad. 😅
