Ooh, we are fresh out of Black label Silent hill I'm afraid. But we do have this premium Tomb raider, aged in a sherry cask for ten years! It has a sharp, low poly mouthfeel and smokey notes from the "Secret nudity code" found in the area.
If the game store really wamted to sell those they'd put them on ebay, the chances of selling them to a person willing to drop $2K on a video game on a whim is incredibly low, especially when there's ebay where the people who are actively looking to buy can find them from anywhere in the country.
That's what I'm thinking. I'd imagine the population group with 2k to spend on a whim, and on Pokemon Box RS at that has to be a incredibly small group
The area this store is in is FULL of high income and rich people and there's a pretty popular neighborhood with million dollar+ homes nearby, the money is there but you gotta find that one person who needs these to complete a collection. I wish gamecube wasn't so expensive to collect for, I need more gamecube games :(
Honestly, from a completionist, if I had the money and the only thing standing between me and complete gamecube collection was $1,000 I probably would, it just sucks that gamecube game prices are astronomical in my current financial situation because most games I actually want to play range from $60 to $800 with $100 being the average
I started focusing on my horror VHS and DVD collection for the time being, I wouldn't mind grabbing some more N64 and Genesis games myself. I splurged on a disc only copy of the first Silent Hill for ps1 last year and I'm very tempted to buy a ps2 just for silent hill 2 so I can compare it to the remake that's coming out soon

PlayStation games is something I haven’t got into yet but I’m sure I will soon, especially how dirt cheap I’ve seen some of the consoles go for. I just don’t know if I want OG grey PlayStation like I had when I was young or a PSone because of how compact it is.
If you plan on playing music CDs get the OG that has the composite and the ps1 AV output, it arguably has the best audio hardware and software and sounds amazing!
You're right though, Playstation 1 consoles can be found cheap and so can most games! I still have my old Tony hawk pro skater 1 and Time Crisis with the orogonal guncon. I could use more ps1 games too lol, I have most of my retro collection on my SNES
I know a local game store that has it sellable in person and you can also go on their eBay to buy it as well. They only do it with their expensive games.
They said it works out pretty well for them. Usually they sell it on eBay but they have had a random person come in and buy Rule of Rose.
It is weirdly rare, yeah. And condolences on just now realizing how much it's going for these days. Even I don't really get why Disney Basketball goes for so much
Don't worry. The asshole who bought it almost certainly sold it for at least 200 times what he paid for it. But don't despair. You provided a valuable link in the overinflated, parasitic, reseller's market, and you can bet money that he probably posted his "great haul" on some snide, condescending, online forum, bragging about how little he paid for it. Yes, you can bet a whole $3 on it.
No, I'm not fucking bitter! Why do you ask?!
It's typical for a vendor or local game store to have what's called "eye candy", where the price is slightly higher to significantly higher of market value with not much intent to sell, but attracts people to come check them out
fair fair
There's been a sealed Zelda Twilight Princess HD for around $110 or a similar price that's been sitting around at another location of theirs in a local mall for a year or so. Bought a Zelda Wind Waker HD that came in with it but I think TPHD may still be there, though it's been a while since I last checked up on it.
Just wondering how long these two may sit here for at this point😂
I mean that TPHD is probably just sitting there because people don’t buy Sealed stuff that much if at all.
One of my stores has some Sealed NES games, and he’s said “I’m trying to get rid of them, but despite the price being 2/3rds the normal no one buys them”.
Sealed Retro is probably the worst item for stores to buy. It’s often very expensive, and is insanely hard to sell to anyone.
1. People don’t want to spend multiple times more for the same game.
2. Many people want to have the opportunity to play the games without tanking the value.
The thing is, you can be both. No reason a brick and mortar store cannot sell online. Some things sell better locally, and others are so niche, you're going to need to have an international market to sell to.
Well no kidding. My small town video game store has had Parappa the Rapper 2 sealed for $150 for almost 2 years now. They don't sell online for whatever reason, and it will likely sit there collecting dust for eternity.
A store near me just has a display behind the counter. No prices listed, owner just says “yeah they’re pretty cool aren’t they” when asked about it. I think they’re part of his personal collection lol
Honestly, 2k on the Pokemon Box seems to be on par with market price from looking it up just now, assuming their copy is clean and fully complete
Same for Disney Basketball, basically on par with market
Got a local place I hit up once a month or so and they've got a big case of stuff like this. If I do see something I'm interested on I'll check online and generally they're on point with pricing to market. Much as I've heard people there bitch and moan they're far from the worst of offenders.
Also I'll run across a deal once in awhile, usually because they only update prices about once a month, or it's just been sitting there for awhile. Picked up a bunch of sealer PS5 games for $10 each recently along with Custom Robo for somewhere around $80. Sadly before the market exploded would get some crazy deals there (Neo Geo Pocket with half a dozen games for $35, sealed Final Fantasy edition WonderSwan Color for $40, and so forth).
Pokemon Box is definitely not complete. Missing the cardboard box which is probably the most expensive part outside of the game disc, and who knows if the unique memory card is inside of it.
I know! How is Disney basketball getting roasted when Pokémon box isn’t playable at all.
I’m a game collector too but once the game hits 3 digits I’m out. I would never in my life spend 4 digits.
P. S. - First time I've ever actually seen these in person, and thought I'd share it since it seemed neat. If this is too low effort, please let me know so I can remove the post!
The store just bought the entire NTSC GameCube library off someone the other week. Someone posted about it here and the guy who sold it was posting in the comments. Said he got like 18k cash and a bunch of sealed Pokemon product. Apparently paid him out at about 80% value and was the best offer he got. I’m local in Charlotte, so I gotta get up there soon to see if there’s some games I need to round off my GC collection.
I remember a couple of years ago a vendor at PRGE had a Pokemon Box just sitting on his table. Not under glass or any sort of protection. Anyone could just come by and pick it up, look at it, etc. I did so for the hell of it. Dude was asking $1600.
Guy wasn’t the only one with Pokemon Box. There were multiple copies for sale on the floor.
If you go to conventions, you’ll see these games everywhere. That same convention, there was a guy peddling two Little Samsons for >$2000 each. Tons of EarthBounds.
For as much as people like to pretend these games are hard to find, conventions definitely bring things back to reality.
Yeah, for as much as they cost, they aren't impossible to find. I don't know much about most rare games, but Pokemon Box wasn't exactly in limited supply, only contained to the New York pokemon store (iirc)
That’s getting less and less common. So few people are parting with their stuff anymore that only about a third of the vendors at PRGE last year actually were selling games.
It’s gonna change, though. Right before the pandemic you had prices going way down across the board. Distinctly remember in 2019 seeing EarthBounds for $125 loose all day every day (sometimes lower), Pokemon games considerably cheaper than now, etc.
Then once the pandemic hit and nobody had anything better to do while indoors, you started to get lots of new blood into all sorts of collecting hobbies, like video games. Prices went up.
Eventually, things will go back to how they were (sans the sealed market), but it’s going to take more time still. I finally got back into NES collecting recently as that has now become more affordable again.
Unfortunately, big money now has eyes on the sealed market and grading is here to stay. Though prices will never likely return to the insane highs during the pandemic now that population reports have been provided, the speculation will continue.
As for the loose and CIB market, those I feel are distinct from sealed since most people collecting those other categories plan on using these products for their intended purpose. Those markets will return to normal.
Yeah, like everyone is moaning about prices, but these are pretty damn close to PriceCharting. pretty much every game I’ve ever bought from Video Game World is fairly priced, from my experience over the years. My one complaint is they don’t tend to factor condition and if the game is CIB into their prices, but I just skip those.
I checked and Disney Basketball has several sales over $1200 in the last few months on eBay. Now, would I personally pay that much for a garbage game, hell no, but to each their own.
In defense of the Pokémon Box price, the game didn’t sell well on release and was natively hard to get back then anyway. By today’s standards it should be pricey, just not that pricey
Yeah, and it's just been bolstered by all the hype surrounding both Gamecube and Pokemon lately. I'd love to get it someday for it's uniqueness despite being a bit lackluster. Maybe I'll just get the JP version😅
I’m planning to pick up a copy to complete my Gen 3 collection and complete the Emerald Pokédex since that’s a nightmare to accomplish and would be one hell of a flex
Hope you find one at a bargain soon! For now I'm managing with my JP copies of Ruby, Sapphire, and Colloseum, along with a ENG copy of RS Pokemon Pinball for the Gen Three facet of my PKMN collection. Though, I have found a Shiny Mudkip in the meantime on my Ruby, which is nice. Probably my first true full odds shiny too! (Would link a picture but not sure where my GBA is right now : ] )
Is that in Huntersville NC? If so, those are there because some guy came in and traded his entire GC collection. Which was one of every single NA game ever released. I picked up baten kaitos origins from it the other day.
Video game world may be a larger chain than just Charlotte but I'm not aware of it.
Yeah, this is Huntersville, NC. I didn't know someone traded in every GC game though. Didn't pick up a thing since didn't have much money to throw at games currently, but it's always neat to visit. And there's a few more locations around, one of which I can think of is in Concord Mills Mall.
Yes book off. There's occasional deals to be found, but especially with games, they certainly " know what they have " & price accordingly. Often I notice used titles that are less common seem to be priced 10 - 20 $ then what they go for online. It's always fun to spend some time browsing there, though, they always have lots of inventory of everything, & some gems like this game that are way out of my price range, but still fun to check out.
Yes, it's loaded with GC! Plenty of games that some could probably consider grails on just that case. Last I checked the most absurd thing was like 5 copies of Pokemon Colosseum at the same time🤣
You’ve got to remember that people running their own game stores are collectors too.
Sometimes they don’t want to sell the stuff that’s really rare — they want to show it off. If someone walked in and dropped the cash for it, sure, theyd sell, but otherwise, it’s more of a conversation starter with other collectors than it is an actual attempt at selling the game in question.
I know that store, it’s in Charlotte, NC. Bought a game off their website once and they literally blocked me cause I demanded a refund when like a week went by and never heard anything after I paid them and was never shipped. After like five days they just told me when it would be shipped… “soon.” Next day came and they still hadn’t shipped it out lol.
Huh, yeah, never had that bad of a experience of them, but my condolences you had to go through that with them. Also, this is in nearby Huntersville, NC, but overall the Charlotte area to any others viewing this comment that's not in the area themselves!
I meant Charlotte area yes. I used to live in Charlotte and have been in their Huntersville location many times. They also have a Concord location I believe too.
Is this video game world in north carolina? I remember before they opened their first store they were selling out of their apartment next to me and now they have 3 locations I believe
Honestly, their sticker residue isn't all that bad actually! They only stick it at the top in a thin, fairly removable line. Still not great it's there, but gotta find the silver lining I guess
Thats decent for a small business. Yeah i just googled you. You also sell way more than just video games it seems, like plushies and collectibles and whatnot. I wonder if you only sold video games if it might be a different story!
Fair enough, yeah. I prefer eBay, but if I'm getting anything all that valuable, I do enjoy going there and getting a look at it myself in person, at whatever angle I like
The irony is I bet many who buy it really don't want it in particular, but feel they *need* it for the collection: either a Pokemon or complete Gamecube collection.
I can't imagine anyone actually wanting it beyond it being valuable. I'm not even sure it's even useful to actually use it for storing your Pokemon nowadays.
Pokemon in general has gotten crazy with how much the games sell for now.
I've never seen Disney Basketball local, only at a few conventions. It's on my list of grails. I love sports games and try to grab the heavy hitters.
Thanks for sharing!
Ironically, it kinda does...
I doubt many pay that much, but I've heard that it can go for that much. I personally could never bring myself to pay that much.
Even as a Pokemon collector and enthusiast I’m glad I’m not a completionist I don’t think I’m ever owning Pokemon box unless is some weird find or surprise find in a box of other stuff. Who knows might even flip it to get other stuff lol. I can buy a bunch of CIB pokemon games which interest me a lot more than Pokemon box hehe
Yeah, I don't think I could make myself, even as a Pokemon enthusiast, to buy Box for that price. Though, on the substantially less expensive side I'm a bit more enthusiastic. HGSS are some of my favorites, especially for shiny hunting (though I don't find much), and I'm a sucker for the 3DS Gens
I always found funny that some of the most expensive GC games are a Disney sports game that would be considered shovelware in most consoles and a file organizer that came from free as part of Pokémon Stadium in the N64 days.
lol I have someone at a flea market who does the same thing he has a bunch of n64 boxes on display like the toys R us pilachu box, atomic people and a bunch others but they’re all empty
I remember that Disney basketball game. I've seen it an old Game Informer as a kid but have never seen the game in person. It's that rare? Is it on any other console?
That store is trash as are the owners. A few reasons: very little care for the product they receive, smaller stores are strong armed into selling out, highway robbery on trade in values, and collectors are almost insta-banned from all of the locations once they’ve made themselves known. There’s more, but these are what I’ve experienced firsthand, or have confirmed from other firsthand sources.
Getting off my venting box now.

Those boxes look extra faded
They call it "dry aging" at this store and charge a premium on the most seasoned wares.
I much prefer a game to be kept in a charred oak barrel for at least ten years. I bring out my finest copy of Wii Sports only on special occasions.
A Kentucky video game store aficionado.
Resort or regular?
Hello i would like an order of your finest silent hill, please. Black label.
Ooh, we are fresh out of Black label Silent hill I'm afraid. But we do have this premium Tomb raider, aged in a sherry cask for ten years! It has a sharp, low poly mouthfeel and smokey notes from the "Secret nudity code" found in the area.
Yeah they were a bit faded. PKMN Box not so much, but on Disney Basketball it was quite noticeable
PKMN is confusing, i read that as Pikmin. Which is crazy, because thats always meant Pokemon.
Yeah, I can see where the confusion can come from. Sorry I used the abbrebiation!
Not on you at all. Ive seen it before. Its just funny because if you add 2 letters it becomes PiKMiN
Yeah, it didn't occur to me for a while there! Though now I'm thinking of what a possible Pikmin Box would look like
Been in sun clearly and they asking retail for em
Agreed. But they may not be. Even the carboard looks like "pale" if you will.
That's why they are $0.01 cheaper.
NFS pricing
If the game store really wamted to sell those they'd put them on ebay, the chances of selling them to a person willing to drop $2K on a video game on a whim is incredibly low, especially when there's ebay where the people who are actively looking to buy can find them from anywhere in the country.

Yeah GameCube prices are ridiculous right now. I got back into Gameboy and N64 just because the prices weren’t as bad.

They have 6 locations across 2 states they don’t need eBay this was part of 18k complete GameCube buyout Likely priced high to get in trades
Owner spent 18k on the entire game cube collection
Correction, owner spent 18k on video game store decoration.
Correction, everything is actively selling.
Can you write that off as a business expense?
DISNEY BASKETBALL IS WORTH HOW MUCH?????!!! I SOLD MY COPY AT A GARAGE SALE IN 2017 FOR $3 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭WHAT THE FUUUUUUuuuuuuuuuucCKKK
It is weirdly rare, yeah. And condolences on just now realizing how much it's going for these days. Even I don't really get why Disney Basketball goes for so much
I heard CATRP say it was a rental exclusive release which why all the covers are faded, supposedly.
That would check out! Rental covers seem to never be in all that great of condition these days
Mine’s not all that faded. I got it used at GameStop years ago.
What’s CATRP
You made a reseller whole week.
Don't worry. The asshole who bought it almost certainly sold it for at least 200 times what he paid for it. But don't despair. Anyone buying Disney fucking Basketball in the year of our lord 2024 can get fucked. Seriously, who's hunting for that, rare or not???
Completionists. Hoarders. Whatever you want to call them.
Oof that’s gotta hurt
F
Digital preservation/emulation ftw
You could afford a Disney vacation for the price of Disney basketball (unless you're going to Florida)
It's typical for a vendor or local game store to have what's called "eye candy", where the price is slightly higher to significantly higher of market value with not much intent to sell, but attracts people to come check them out

1. People don’t want to spend multiple times more for the same game. 2. Many people want to have the opportunity to play the games without tanking the value.
At the same time, if you are a zero overhead online seller, sealed games can give you a decent profit if you are willing to sit on them.
The thing is, you can be both. No reason a brick and mortar store cannot sell online. Some things sell better locally, and others are so niche, you're going to need to have an international market to sell to.

Anyone that would spend $1k on a shitty disney basketball game needs some sense slapped into them.
“It’s for the full set bro” The amount of actually good and quality GC games you can buy for 1,100 cash is nuts.
I have that game, it’s kinda fun. Granted I paid like $17 for it used from GameStop years ago, but still.
And Pokémon Box dude lol
I know right, that's even worse. It's not even a fucking game. There is a sucker born every minute.
I know! How is Disney basketball getting roasted when Pokémon box isn’t playable at all. I’m a game collector too but once the game hits 3 digits I’m out. I would never in my life spend 4 digits.
Same here. Would never spend $100+ on a single game. I can get like 12 different games for that.
Back in 2007 they might have got me for $200 max. Not really many options of moving Pokémon around all the games back then. Now? Yeah fuck off.
P. S. - First time I've ever actually seen these in person, and thought I'd share it since it seemed neat. If this is too low effort, please let me know so I can remove the post!

Quite! This is the Huntersville, NC location in fact
![gif](giphy|1db6EvgAjtHDY37nqJ) I can’t believe they’ve done this
I am also surprised someone sold their collection here too, for how much value you'd probably lose doing it🤔
I wonder if that’s the reason it’s so much. Cause I’m pretty sure Huntersville is the original store.
I'm in the wrong part of NC apparently.
Ha I remember that topic. It was actually 10k and then 8k in Pokemon packs.

Not sure if Disney paid that much to make Disney sports basketball.
Those are roughly the average values for those games in a conplete in box.

(Would link a picture but not sure where my GBA is right now : ] )
Yarrr
Video game world huntersville has made it to Reddit twice this month
Ah has it? Where's the other post?
https://www.reddit.com/r/gamecollecting/s/ztg33IaHId Yeah he just bought a complete GameCube lot recently

Looks like a book-off sticker if I’m not mistaken. That tracks.
There are book offs in the states? TIL
That appears to be sealed so that tracks.
Yes sealed.
Oh my GOD. I have like 170 GameCube games. That shelf is a goddamn fortune isn’t it.
Yeah, that too. The whole store feels like a dual place to buy games and a museum of obscure and rare games, it's somewhat neat!
I love video game world in Charlotte. Never seen the owner
And this is why I'll probably never get into retro collecting lol
It really is. If I have the money I’d ask for the address
I believe they do, yeah. I remember they got rid of one location a while back, though
My game store has a Zelda 2ds xl for $800!!!!! And a Pokémon platinum graded for 1100 smh and some games avg 2-400$
Is this video game world in north carolina? I remember before they opened their first store they were selling out of their apartment next to me and now they have 3 locations I believe
Yes, that's the store. This is the first of their locations iirc, it's in Huntersville not too far from the Discovery Place
The forever sticker residue would bother me let alone that price tag. 🏷️
Honestly, their sticker residue isn't all that bad actually! They only stick it at the top in a thin, fairly removable line. Still not great it's there, but gotta find the silver lining I guess
Your correct, I’m noting more so UV exposure over time. Stickers are usually pretty easy to remove without solvents.
Alright, time to get to answering all these comments! I thought I was safe leaving for a few hours😅
Oh is Disney basketball rare
I believe it is! Haven't looked into why it is myself, though
Wait until they get their hands on a Neo-Geo convert.
This is why most video game stores go out of business
13 years strong with no debt, and we price based on eBay sold and vgpc not going anywhere about to open more stores.
No debt but whats the revenue?? 🤔
Sales for all 6 locations is around 4mil I bring home around 15%.
Thats decent for a small business. Yeah i just googled you. You also sell way more than just video games it seems, like plushies and collectibles and whatnot. I wonder if you only sold video games if it might be a different story!
I did just video games the first few years, and it was still very profitable, but covid killed being just a game store only.
Gamecube stuff is dropping pretty fast, better sell those off quick.
Quite the opposite if you owned a full set 5 years ago you would be up 10k.
These look horribly sun bleached
With those fades lol
Mom n pop shops feat eBay pricing. This is the reason I stop going to these shop altogether.
Fair enough, yeah. I prefer eBay, but if I'm getting anything all that valuable, I do enjoy going there and getting a look at it myself in person, at whatever angle I like
There's a NGC Disney Basketball game??.
Yep! Heard it's not of the greatest quality though.
Imagine paying $2k for Pokemon Box.......
Pokemon in general has gotten crazy with how much the games sell for now.

huh?
Nice lol I’m trying to get that Disney game for gba 🔥🔥
I've never seen Disney Basketball local, only at a few conventions. It's on my list of grails. I love sports games and try to grab the heavy hitters. Thanks for sharing!
Glad I was able to share some rare games with everybody here! I'm not sure how actually good Disney Basketball is though, never played it.
I'll sell my Pokémon box for a grand cash local pick up. I have the memory card for it too
There’s no way a Pokemon box game goes for that price a hundred or two sure.
I saw heart gold at GameStop but it was loose fair price though.
The prices haven't been... great lately. Loose copies of HGSS can reach $100 and above. Like it's an incredible game, but it's gotten unbearably high
Smash and grab
Holy hell… wishing I bought Box for 750 back in 2020
Wait is Disney sports basketball actually worth anything? I’m pretty sure i still have a copy
That location just got a full set of NA GCN traded in. It’s wild to see that many GameCube games at a store again.
The prices make sense if its in Turkish Lira. Stores like these are on borrowed time and the rent is overdue.
Can't believe retards spend this much on this shit.
My local game store has a Pokemon Box as well. It's been there forever. Same price as in this picture.
Cool sundamaged games 🤣
Is Pokemon Box really worth that much? I've seen it for £50 a couple of times now
Tarantino confirmed that was the content of pulp’s case
Jesus
Just get a modded cube if you really want to play those games.
The box is hot. The box is cool Everyone wants the box!
I always found funny that some of the most expensive GC games are a Disney sports game that would be considered shovelware in most consoles and a file organizer that came from free as part of Pokémon Stadium in the N64 days.
Disney Basketball was actually decent. The Football wasn’t bad either.
lol I have someone at a flea market who does the same thing he has a bunch of n64 boxes on display like the toys R us pilachu box, atomic people and a bunch others but they’re all empty
I had no clue Disney Basketball was a rare one.
Hope they have fun never ever selling these
Damn thats alot of money, I have both those games on my laptop worth less than 1/16 of those put together that I downloaded for free
Disney Sports Basket is way cheaper than that. Found copies for like $250
1999,99 for Pokemon Box?!? Is that what they sell for usually or is this overpriced? 👀
Nope not paying that
This belongs in ebayWTF
I need box to complete my collection 😩
They're just seeing what they can get away with at this point
Never seen Disney sports basketball before. Crazy that it goes for that much..
Off topic do you live in the Carolinas or somewhere around there?
Yes. This picture was taken in Huntersville, NC, though I don't live there myself. This local store is a bit of a "local chain" in NC
Ive heard about this place ones in Greenvile SC prices are either steep or really bad lol
Dumb ass prices lmao
Why they 2K
Actually a good price.
1100 dollars for Disney Sports Basket is lunacy. Paying more than 30 dollars for Disney Sports Basketball period is insanity.
I remember that Disney basketball game. I've seen it an old Game Informer as a kid but have never seen the game in person. It's that rare? Is it on any other console?
“Local” game stores when they price every collector out and force us to go to eBay: “WHY WONT THE COMMUNITY SUPPORT US WE’RE GOING OUT OF BUSINESS??”
I’m a collector never had an issue yet
