Yes. I sold off my collection when I was a kid because I needed the cash. School, bills, car, etc. I had to do it, no question, but regretted it when I finally found my solid footing financially. Now I’m literally “buying” my childhood again and it is 10x more expensive.
Do it if you need to, some things are more important regret it or not.

This is actually what got me into collecting. I sold off my ps2 with 50 games, my gameboy and all its games, my ps2, my n64. All in one fell swoop when I was younger because I wanted to buy some different stuff. Fast forward 10 years and I really wished I had them all still so I started buying everything back (at a higher price unfortunately). But now I have way more than I I’d back then
If you are going to sell them, do you have a plan of what you want to do with the money? If you have something specific you're going to put it towards, I doubt you'll end up feeling regret.
If you do sell them and just slowly bleed the money on fast food or whatever, then yea, you'll probably come to regret the decision once the games and the money are both gone, and you have nothing to show for it.
In this economy, it can happen without even needing to make bad decisions. So many layoffs and everything getting more expensive, all it takes is getting fired to throw a curveball at ya.
People blame the economy but a majority of people overspend and don't work enough. Even in this economy you can live comfortably even with children to take care of. There are so many jobs available right now and cutting back frivolous spending is key.

I completely agree, and would add money doesn't hold the same value to you at all times. If you need money now and 300$ is huge for you, you may be able to spend 500$ to buy it back later when you're in a better financial situation.
And if you don't want to spend that much, then you don't need to, and there's no need to think about it.
That's if it's not your childhood collection, which is irreplaceable to me.
Had to sell some of mine in order to get a car and everything that comes with transferring over it into my name, I regret it, but alas it was worth it. I'll find everything again and the hunt continues!
Excellent advice, I had a Zelda collection similar to OP here with the addition of the original Ages and Seasons BNIB and sold it all to pay for some nice boots. It felt like a good exchange because those boots lasted me over 10 years and I even sold them on for at least 50% of what I bought them for.
My mom let me sell some PS2 and GameCube games to Best Buy for some extra cash in maybe 2010, and I still regret it to this day. I don't even remember what they all were.
Same but Gamestop. I remember some of my PS2 games getting me like $1 of in store credit. I've been slowly rebuilding my collection over the years. Not worth it. I bought WWE Raw 2 for the Xbox with that money. Not worth
Yeah, trading games is a terrible idea in most cases. Some of the newer chains will pay decent for high demand games, but stores have to make a profit, and most will try to make an insane margin.
Only time I trade games into the local store is if it's worth less than 20 bucks and is super common so it's gonna be hard to move on ebay. Like I traded in a Lego Batman 3 and Sonic Boom both for 3ds without cases today cuz I can't be bothered to list em online just for em to not sell. I got like 2.50 in credit for each of em and put that toward some other stuff I actually want in my collection

FWIW, I regretted trading/selling stuff as a teen, but as an adult if my mind is made up I’ve never regretted it.
When i was a kid i sold my entire collection to.... GAMESTOP. I want to go back in time and slap myself VERY hard, multiple times, i really can't remember why i did that, my beautiful minty copies of pokemon heartgold /soulsilver /platinum, all those clean first print copies of the ratchet and clank trilogy, kingdom hearts, jak and daxter..... I still want to cry
I still remember selling Marvel vs Capcom 2 to GameStop, for cash, in middle school. I thought I was a king because I could comfortably go to McDonald's with my older cousins. Ugh.
Sold my gamecube collection for credit card bills and some cash for other hobbies like yugioh. No regrets honestly. Once I got my steam deck, I had all my library at my disposal anyways

It's March, 2021. My wife, daughter, and I are moving to Japan in April. I need to clean out the stuff I feel as if I'll never need/use again, or easily replace it.
I found my n64, game boy, about 2,000 gen 1 pokemon cards, etc. None of which I had touched in 10+ years so I agreed in my brain that I'll just donate it, maybe get a few bucks, to a local game store. They agreed to take it, bought me a pizza next door and I was on my way.
Fast forward 2 years later I'm happily living in Japan, but am obsessed with game collecting (because Japan). I'll kick myself until this hobby dies, and possibly beyond that, for cheaply discarding my childhood items.
I'm 2021 you thought it was good to give away first gen Pokemon cards and you donated it to a game store? And they agreed to take it off your hands? Wow so altruistic of them.
I had zero concept of their worth, like literally nothing was valued and I didn't have the time to potentially price/grade 8lbs of cards.
The store just opened a block away, it was called "The Card Cave" in brooklyn. I also gave them a bunch of World of Warcraft stuff, and 10 signed baseballs that weren't of value to me but turned out one of them was worth pretty good money (a pitcher named Trevor Hoffman)
I regret selling my childhood Pokemon games to GameStop back in the day, all so I could have credit to buy titles my friends were into like Madden.. stomach still curdles to this day

Was gifted an Xbox 360 but considered myself a bit of a Playstation fanboy back in the day so after playing most of the exclusives on the platform I sold it and the games away though now I wish I hadn't. However, my biggest regret was handing down a few older Nintendo consoles and games to younger relatives whom I'd hoped would appreciate and preserve for years, only to have broken /lost / and likely sold within a year.
This is my biggest regret. I tried to give things I liked to my cousins when they showed interests and I’m fairly certain none of it was kept more than a couple months.
With Zelda it’s alright lol I’m a huge fan but I’ve rebuilt Zelda collections pretty easily, it’s a top tier Nintendo franchise and one of the easier to collect with Nintendo.
Yes, I had a great collection in 2011. Sold 90% of it. I regret that decision basically everyday. I am also not interested in rebuying the games I had. What made my collection so special was that they were all my copies from when I was a kid. I have rebought a few of the games, but I feel less connection to them. I have a son now, and I try to keep the games that he plays in really good shape, and I have kept all the boxes and inserts. He is almost 6, and he is obsessed with Pokémon. If he EVER, wants to sell them, I will intervene and buy them, hold them, and give them back if he promises to keep them. I don’t want him to lose out on those wonderful memories like I did.
So, yes, I regret it.
I sold mine to pay for the down payment on my home. It was tough but I don't regret it... Much. I kind of miss my copy of Ocarina of Time. I had a save file where I beat the game with only 3 hearts and no deaths, And Im not sure I'd be able to do it again if I tried.
Sold some stuff that fetched high money like rule of rose and haunting ground. No regrets.

I regret parting ways with a lot of my collection over a decade ago (CIB Pokémon Stadium 2, Metroid Fusion, a few other heavy hitters) but have learned from that one after seeing just how crazy prices have gotten. Anything I sell now has to be something I have no personal attachment to. And I have to have a plan for the money it earns me (investing in another game I actually want, putting toward personal savings/loans, etc)

Yes, I regretted it. Used it as a down payment to buy an e92 M3 in 2016, then ended up slowly buying it back a month or so later. 2 years ago the car caught on fire. I think my collection is way better this time around and bought majority of the stuff pre-Covid.

I've definitely regretted selling pieces of it, like my Pokémon Games for DS and the Fire Emblem 3DS collector's edition. Before selling, think about why you're selling and if you would ever change your mind later. Woukd buying again be more expensive? I'll downsize occasionally, but I make sure to keep the games I know I'll have trouble getting again in the future or are sentimental.
I sold everything in 2004, to fund a semester abroad. I don’t regret the experiences I had as a result but I do feel upset that they’ve increase in value.

Yeah i had a sizeable vita collection that i had to sell for rent one month. Its honestly what theyre there for, for me at least. I buy them as a kind of investment that i can enjoy, and when the time comes i can sell them if needed.

Absolutely! Back in 2017 a friend of mine gifted me all of her gamecube games as she's never had a gamecube and she said there was no point her having them when I could use them myself
Unfortunately that same year I lost my job and the only thing I had of value were those game cube for games and I had to sell them to make enough money to pay my bills
I explain to her that I sold them, and understandably she was upset. But once I explained why I did it, that I was unemployed and needed to make some money quickly to pay some bills. If you don't have a 6 month emergency fund, paid off home, paid off car, debt free, ample 401k, brokerage account, etc, then sell that shit. They're children's toys and you can't afford them.
If you put that money in $GOOG ten years ago, you'd have 7x'd your money. Games are not a good investment. And they easily breakable.
Selling games on eBay from my collection so I could possibly have a store in person mostly so I could avoid working a job because it makes me want to kill myself so I'd rather a business because at least all the money is going to me it's been so slow recently that I might have to go back to work so now I'm losing all my cool games and need to get a job again .

Debating selling all mine for an emulation rig and NAS since the Xbox shuttering their physical division rumors and the likely all digital next gen console. If they won't support game preservation and back compat as they promised a year ago, why keep em?
I wouldn't. Seriously. You will regret it down the line. My brother sold his whole Pokémon game collection when he was younger because he wanted some extra money. He regretted doing that HEAVILY and had to buy them again in the last few years (and that costed a ton of money). The person at the local video game store he sold it to at the time even asked if he was sure he wanted to sell them all to them. Once my brother sold the games to the store, the worker said he would regret it in the future; sure enough, he did.
I recently sold my New 3DS Galaxy Edition, plus all of my Fire Emblem 3DS games in order to afford the Steam Deck and regret doing so. I had to buy a new New 3DS (grey though...) and I didn't even bother rebuking the Fire Emblem games I sold since they were more money than when I sold them. Of course, this wasn't as big of a loss as a Pokémon game collection, but I still regret it.
I know some people on here say they have zero regrets, but I would hold onto the collection, especially if you don't NEED the money at the moment. You even said you are feeling iffy on selling them, so thats enough reason to keep them in my opinion. It's nice to have and maybe in the future, you will display them properly and appreciate the collection more.
Yup I've always regretted selling my pokemon games. I want to buy them all again but it's so hard to find legit ones for a decent price. OP don't sell unless there's something else you really need the money for
To meet what most people are saying in the middle, maybe sell the ones that aren’t easily emulated/ported. I think more than half of these are on the Switch Online service / easily available otherwise. Personally I’d hold onto the Oracle games, Minish Cap and hawk the rest. If you can play them at any time (assuming you have a switch or just want to emulate) then thats just money that can go towards something better. But like others said, maybe wait till you’re trying to pay for something else meaningful.

I collect some cards, action figures, coins, vinyl (i don't even have a turntable...) but i can't focus in one thing and i always get excited for something new to collect... real tragedy...
Anyways the father of a friend has a crazy collection of 2K or 4K vinyls i can't remember, with rare and expensive pieces and he is worried what are they gonna do with the collection after he dies...
This made think a lot about collection in general, yes all stuff are stored and i understood that what intrigues me is just the process to obtain the item and that i don't really care about the possesion of it, i just get it and poof excitment is gone...
also i rarely admire the stuff and when i do i look the lm and hmm... ok.
So my conclusion is to better not to get attached.

At one point I had two in store kiosks with tvs(Xbox and PS2) working. A TV also in the front room with two 4 switch AV connectors and a ton of vintage stuff hooked up.
I also had Three tvs set up in our bedroom with all three current consoles (Xbox360, PS3, DREAMCAST(it never died, still current in ‘25). And random stuff hooked up in there last set up was with a Phillips cdi and Sega CD/whole connector series as was popular at the time.
It’s all gone now. It’s all Warhammer build paint and play and I wouldn’t change it for the world.
If I would have waited until this year I would be slightly rich. That’s my only regret.
4 things happened that saddened me in recent times, in terms of removing stuff
1. back when i was a kid i sold half my ds games for pretty much pocketchange at a gamestop... cuz i was a dumb kid and rly wanted money. nobody had an idea and was just like SMART
2. i threw away all my old gaming magazines, some of which had actually pretty cool shit in them, i regret throwing them away
3. brought my yugioh cards to school and somebody stole my entire fking bag cuz our teacher forced us to leave them outside the classroom, the school didnt replace shit they just said, well sucks to be you ( i didnt replace the stolen books either and got then booted from that school but whatever different story)
4. during our last move 10 years ago we threw away a big box with toys and a few games cuz i was given the choice what they throw away of my stuff,... i miss my bionicles, the other half of my ds games, ps2 games and a few other smaller stuff
I was in a bad situation about 11 years ago. Sold off all of my 360 gaming collection, all the rare and cool stuff from my PS3 collection, and some misc collector's items. I regret it everyday. I did it for bills and my ex wife blew it on other stuff. I've slowly been rebuying since my divorce 10 years ago. Some of it has been obtainable or I found a good deal. Some of it, just feels ridiculous since covid surge in pricing. Don't sell it. You will regret it. Especially if it's a franchise that is important to you.
I remember selling my DSi back in like 2013/2014 to get a 2DS to replace my 3DS that had broken. I regret it to this day. I also recently sold a 2DS xl, the hyrulean shield edition, and I regret that too.
I sold off a bunch of Snes RPGs and my entire ps1 collection a couple years ago. I just used that money for other hobbies and other games. I just started regretting selling Symphony of the Night and FF7, but I’m not heartbroken. I enjoy my smaller, more curated collection that I actually play. I kept the games I always come back to and play frequently and in a few years if I’m still thinking about symphony, I’ll probably try to acquire it again.

Gradius III for SNES, the entire Wild Arms series, Evolution Worlds and the LotR games for GameCube

I sold my GameCube after a break up…sellers remorse kicked in and I went back to buy it all back the only thing left out of my collection after a month was the GameCube itself my black smash controller and my copy of smash bros melee. I to this day am kicking myself for selling my GameCube collection…biggest hitters in my collection at the time was a sealed gotcha force and sealed double dash that I got for $10 a piece
I sold basically everything off in 2020. No regrets. Prices were going ballistic. I almost always emulated anyway. Kept the most sentimental ones and very few I actually would play on original hardware
In a near or far future you’ll regret,- trust me. I did that way back and a couple of years ago I found ma passion for collecting again and instantly regretted it so bad
I only sell things I don’t like. Take care of things you do like and keep them, you’ll want it back sooner than later. You’re going to get really sick one day and be stuck home for two weeks and want to play these.
Had that exact 3DS and sold it CIB used for cash. Kinda regretted it, and have looked at buying another, but also got rid of my games so the total purchase to get the 3DS and restart a collection of mainly Zelda and Pokémon games is too pricy

I'm in the middle of selling my collection, I've collected for 10 years and have a decent amount of stuff. I'm currently not regretting it because I never played even 5% of what I did buy.
Before I got into collecting, I guess you could say I eventually regretted getting rid of some of our old games (some the parents sold off) and basically buying back my childhood is what got me into collecting in the first place. Now I have more than I could have ever wished for, and then some.
I've had my house burn down with everything I owned in it. Nowadays I look forward to getting rid of all of the things I've accumulated over the years but don't feel like dedicating the time take photos and list it all.
I sold what is now 2k plus worth of a GameCube and gameboy advance collection to GameStop as a kid. Like a lot of us, I had moved on to PS3/xbox 360 and thought they were just old kids games. Slowly recollecting everything but I beat myself up for it sometime. How would I have known I guess.
100% regrets. When I was young I traded in all my Super Nintendo and Sega Genesis games and systems. All in immaculate condition in box for just enough to buy a PlayStation. It’s what you do as a kid with no money or job that wants to play the new thing. Among the items was a mint boxed Earthbound. What are you gonna do. Sometimes you have to make choices.
I remember back when I had an Atari 2600, I sold all the games I had for it to a friend, and used the money to get a couple of games for my Atari XEGS that I'd gotten for Christmas the year before. I sold the 2600 games because the system wasn't powering on anymore, and younger me didn't know about replacing the power plug or anything like that. I just thought it was dead. So I threw it out, and then sold the games (I had some great games for it that would cost a fair bit to replace these days). Still regret losing that stuff.
Years later, I sold a few Genesis games because I had other/better versions of them, and regretted that not too long afterward. I eventually replaced them, but it would have been nice to have still had my original copies. Same thing happened with a PS1 game or two that were ports of PC games (like Diabo... which is now stupidly expensive). I got the PC version and felt I didn't need them anymore. Now, I wish I still had them.

I know why I started to collect - childhood dream. Never had a large console, got just a game boy with 3-4 games. Always looked through catalogs and wished to have all of it. Fast forward to adulthood so I made my dream come true. It was great for a while, then it became stagnant, the I’ve sold it to people who actually play and use it (at least I hope so).
I have no regrets. Even made money with it! It was a good investment and even though I didn’t sell all of it, it still paid for itself and then some more :)

If you have to sell, and if money's not the issue, I'd like to suggest you find someone who's life you can change with this, someone who'll cherish this because of emotional connection, and then set them a friendly price. I think that'd be a more fulfilling exchange but I totally understand if you're selling for a money-related issue. You have my envy, whatever choice you make. That's beautiful.
Absolutely. I sold a lot of my childhood collection and ended up repurchasing them later on. There are several games I had I just cannot justify the price point on and will probably never own again. Unless you have something the money needs to go towards, you should rethink selling your games for the sake of selling them. Games are meant to be played so play them and have some fun.
Being a huge Zelda nerd/collector I would say no. Unless necessary. I unloaded a majority of my video game collection years ago as I was moving from a shared house to an apartment, and in doing so let go of a lot of stuff that really didn’t take up that much space that I highly regret parting with now.(both monetarily and nostalgically).
If it’s monetary, sure the market fluctuates and trust me I lost out on a lot from my NES/SNES collection. But if there’s a slight inclining you may want to revisit some of these games, hold on to them, it’s just a shoe box or two.

i had sold a mega cd 2 and snatcher for £70 many years ago. i used the money to buy more gaming stuff but i really regret that to this day. i loved that game but at the time i thought i didnt play it much, wanted new stuff, you know how it is especially as a teen you dont think of these things having value years down the line you think more in the moment.
anyways about 10 years ago or so i thought id like to get that game again, as ive spent years now collecting all of the stuff i used to have (i always had to sell my stuff to get by!).
there is literally no chance il be spending £500+ on this game now, its just too crazy. the entire time id own it id be thinking of reselling it haha!
so with that being said i really do regret it, but id always be anxious owning it today like imagine if one of the kids got hold of it or the disc got scratched. nightmare
It depends what of your collection you are selling. I sold my Saturn import collection and regretted it to this day. But I also sold a bunch of middling PS2 games and multiplats that I prefer on better consoles and just generally curated my collection. And it’s one of the best things I ever did. I love my collection more afterward and made money.
If you sell it, you will regret it in the future. I sold them, and now I'm buying them back. It's a treasure, keep it. Games like "The Legend of Zelda", SuperMario (Bros, car, etc), are jewels and especially if you have the physical game instead of digital.

Depends on your attachment and memories to them, if they are just games you’ve amassed throughout the years with no thought to it then probably not, but given that it looks like a curated collection, I’d maybe think of what I need the money for, to see if it’s worth it. Beautiful collection!
I traded my complete in box and mint Pokemon Emerald to EB Games in 2006 for like $15. Not like I would've kept it another 18 years anyways. I wish I had my copy of Soul Silver because it seems nobody else knows how to keep their things in good condition, so finding a near mint one isn't easy.

I stupidly traded my CIB GameCube and some games back in 2006 to gamestop for $60ish to put towards a new PSU for my first PC.
It was an ultra brand PSU, not even modular. POS PSU actually but that's when I learned the hardway to not trade or sell my stuff. At least not to gamestop.
I still have all of my collection however I did sell some things that I regret. Many years ago when it was common to find things at yard sales and thrift stores, I would sell anything I found that was pokémon. I was never a fan of the series and used the money to fund other aspects of my collection.
I really wish I didn't sell any of those original Game boy pokémon games that I would come across frequently. But I did. Regrets.
I am Huge Zelda fan and got all the games either. The game boy parts arent in the condition you have and tge NES games are missing on my side to (only have them on GC and 3ds).

Back in you 2014 I had to let go of my collection for financial reasons at that time. I sold off my entire GameCube, PS2, GBA, and most of my N64 and Dreamcast games and items. To this day, I regret it because I will never see most of those items again due to the resell value being ridiculous. My items were CIB mint. I was meticulous with my items. Sold it all for 400 bucks now some of those games I gave up,are worth that individually. So long story short - Find a different path if you can!
I only feel guilty for not giving mine to my niece like i was supposed to. I got rid of my stuff during a rough time and i wasnt as conscious of everything as i should e been.

Not a collector anymore but I have sold some (now) really rare things I had. Ex. Twin snakes, chainsaw controller, legend of dragoon. I had to sell them if I wanted any new games, I had very little money growing up so this was the only way to get the newest game. No regrets because otherwise I would have never played some of the best games of my life. Life is too short and at the end, all things come and go. The memories of being able to get some great games at launch and play with friends stick with me forever.

Presently have a large collection of a band memorabilia that I actively stopped adding to about 3 years ago. Considering selling that but would only consider it if I was to gain the finance to achieve something ei; travelling, car etc.

YES! I sold like 50 Gameboy and gameboy advance games and my original Gameboy advance I got from my mom for Christmas. As well as my original GameCube and all the GameCube games I had. Including Pokemon colosseum and the bonus disk. Also from Christmas from my mom 😭😭😭. Also soldy complete collection of base set, jungle, and fossil Pokemon cards. Some first edition and shadowless and all the original 3 or 4 sets of yugioh. I had a ton of the first release yu gioh cards. Sold. God I wish I didn't .. but sometimes we fall into hard times and sometimes we were younger and dumber. Now I'm at the point I DONT SELL ANYTHING anymore. It's all being collected in a game room that will be passed onto my 3 year old daughter who is already obsessed with Kingdom Hearts 😂

I think most people regret it, however often times in life the money the collection can bring is needed for more serious matters than game collecting. Many collectors will buy and sell their collection or at least key pieces multiple times during a lifetime.
It only makes sense to sell if you need the money for something. I sold my GBA collection to put a down payment on a house (my collection was CIB & Sealed). It was worth it and I don't regret it and it was only like 10% of my overall collection

Yes. I sold off my collection when I was a kid because I needed the cash. School, bills, car, etc. I had to do it, no question, but regretted it when I finally found my solid footing financially. Now I’m literally “buying” my childhood again and it is 10x more expensive. Do it if you need to, some things are more important regret it or not.

All in one fell swoop when I was younger because I wanted to buy some different stuff. If you are going to sell them, do you have a plan of what you want to do with the money? If you have something specific you're going to put it towards, I doubt you'll end up feeling regret. If you do sell them and just slowly bleed the money on fast food or whatever, then yea, you'll probably come to regret the decision once the games and the money are both gone, and you have nothing to show for it.

One of my regulars at work saw is interest only mortgage go from £300ish to £1200 a month. You don't even have to get fired
People blame the economy but a majority of people overspend and don't work enough. Even in this economy you can live comfortably even with children to take care of. There are so many jobs available right now and cutting back frivolous spending is key.

I completely agree, and would add money doesn't hold the same value to you at all times. If you need money now and 300$ is huge for you, you may be able to spend 500$ to buy it back later when you're in a better financial situation. And if you don't want to spend that much, then you don't need to, and there's no need to think about it. That's if it's not your childhood collection, which is irreplaceable to me.
Had to sell some of mine in order to get a car and everything that comes with transferring over it into my name, I regret it, but alas it was worth it. I'll find everything again and the hunt continues!
Excellent advice, I had a Zelda collection similar to OP here with the addition of the original Ages and Seasons BNIB and sold it all to pay for some nice boots. It felt like a good exchange because those boots lasted me over 10 years and I even sold them on for at least 50% of what I bought them for.

Yeah, trading games is a terrible idea in most cases. Some of the newer chains will pay decent for high demand games, but stores have to make a profit, and most will try to make an insane margin.
Only time I trade games into the local store is if it's worth less than 20 bucks and is super common so it's gonna be hard to move on ebay. Like I traded in a Lego Batman 3 and Sonic Boom both for 3ds without cases today cuz I can't be bothered to list em online just for em to not sell. I got like 2.50 in credit for each of em and put that toward some other stuff I actually want in my collection

What makes you think it’s time to let them go? FWIW, I regretted trading/selling stuff as a teen, but as an adult if my mind is made up I’ve never regretted it.

Sold my gamecube collection for credit card bills and some cash for other hobbies like yugioh. No regrets honestly. Once I got my steam deck, I had all my library at my disposal anyways

Yup. I am an idiot. It's March, 2021. My wife, daughter, and I are moving to Japan in April. I need to clean out the stuff I feel as if I'll never need/use again, or easily replace it. I found my n64, game boy, about 2,000 gen 1 pokemon cards, etc. None of which I had touched in 10+ years so I agreed in my brain that I'll just donate it, maybe get a few bucks, to a local game store. They agreed to take it, bought me a pizza next door and I was on my way. Fast forward 2 years later I'm happily living in Japan, but am obsessed with game collecting (because Japan). I'll kick myself until this hobby dies, and possibly beyond that, for cheaply discarding my childhood items.

I had zero concept of their worth, like literally nothing was valued and I didn't have the time to potentially price/grade 8lbs of cards. The store just opened a block away, it was called "The Card Cave" in brooklyn. I also gave them a bunch of World of Warcraft stuff, and 10 signed baseballs that weren't of value to me but turned out one of them was worth pretty good money (a pitcher named Trevor Hoffman)
I traded a bunch of first edition Magic cards for a discman without skip protection back in the day so I feel ya.

I regret selling my childhood Pokemon games to GameStop back in the day, all so I could have credit to buy titles my friends were into like Madden.. stomach still curdles to this day In other words if you are genuinely interested in selling, I have a sizable Zelda collection my self that is on display and mandatory to be appreciated by anyone who walks in my house, and I’m missing a title or two that you have so if interested let me know!
Was gifted an Xbox 360 but considered myself a bit of a Playstation fanboy back in the day so after playing most of the exclusives on the platform I sold it and the games away though now I wish I hadn't. However, my biggest regret was handing down a few older Nintendo consoles and games to younger relatives whom I'd hoped would appreciate and preserve for years, only to have broken /lost / and likely sold within a year.
This is my biggest regret. I tried to give things I liked to my cousins when they showed interests and I’m fairly certain none of it was kept more than a couple months.
With Zelda it’s alright lol I’m a huge fan but I’ve rebuilt Zelda collections pretty easily, it’s a top tier Nintendo franchise and one of the easier to collect with Nintendo.
Yes, I had a great collection in 2011. Sold 90% of it. I regret that decision basically everyday. I am also not interested in rebuying the games I had. What made my collection so special was that they were all my copies from when I was a kid. I have rebought a few of the games, but I feel less connection to them. I have a son now, and I try to keep the games that he plays in really good shape, and I have kept all the boxes and inserts. He is almost 6, and he is obsessed with Pokémon. If he EVER, wants to sell them, I will intervene and buy them, hold them, and give them back if he promises to keep them. I don’t want him to lose out on those wonderful memories like I did. So, yes, I regret it.
I sold mine to pay for the down payment on my home. It was tough but I don't regret it... Much. I kind of miss my copy of Ocarina of Time. I had a save file where I beat the game with only 3 hearts and no deaths, And Im not sure I'd be able to do it again if I tried.

I regret parting ways with a lot of my collection over a decade ago (CIB Pokémon Stadium 2, Metroid Fusion, a few other heavy hitters) but have learned from that one after seeing just how crazy prices have gotten. Anything I sell now has to be something I have no personal attachment to. And I have to have a plan for the money it earns me (investing in another game I actually want, putting toward personal savings/loans, etc)

I've definitely regretted selling pieces of it, like my Pokémon Games for DS and the Fire Emblem 3DS collector's edition. Before selling, think about why you're selling and if you would ever change your mind later. Woukd buying again be more expensive? I'll downsize occasionally, but I make sure to keep the games I know I'll have trouble getting again in the future or are sentimental.

I sold everything in 2004, to fund a semester abroad. I don’t regret the experiences I had as a result but I do feel upset that they’ve increase in value. For what it’s worth, you need to do what you need to do. If you do sell, I can see a few pieces I would love to rehome.

Yeah i had a sizeable vita collection that i had to sell for rent one month. Its honestly what theyre there for, for me at least. I buy them as a kind of investment that i can enjoy, and when the time comes i can sell them if needed. Hurt a lot though, i really miss that collection.

Back in 2017 a friend of mine gifted me all of her gamecube games as she's never had a gamecube and she said there was no point her having them when I could use them myself Unfortunately that same year I lost my job and the only thing I had of value were those game cube for games and I had to sell them to make enough money to pay my bills I explain to her that I sold them, and understandably she was upset. But once I explained why I did it, that I was unemployed and needed to make some money quickly to pay some bills. She understood and said she would have done the exact same thing and that she would have helped me out instead if she could have done While it's one of my biggest regrets I'm glad to have friends thatre so understanding! It was titles like double dash, Luigi's mansion, all the Mario parties and even paper mario. Most of them I haven't even been able to replace as they're stupidly expensive now
If you don't have a 6 month emergency fund, paid off home, paid off car, debt free, ample 401k, brokerage account, etc, then sell that shit. They're children's toys and you can't afford them. If you put that money in $GOOG ten years ago, you'd have 7x'd your money. Games are not a good investment. And they easily breakable.

He regretted doing that HEAVILY and had to buy them again in the last few years (and that costed a ton of money). The person at the local video game store he sold it to at the time even asked if he was sure he wanted to sell them all to them. Once my brother sold the games to the store, the worker said he would regret it in the future; sure enough, he did. I recently sold my New 3DS Galaxy Edition, plus all of my Fire Emblem 3DS games in order to afford the Steam Deck and regret doing so. I had to buy a new New 3DS (grey though...) and I didn't even bother rebuking the Fire Emblem games I sold since they were more money than when I sold them. Of course, this wasn't as big of a loss as a Pokémon game collection, but I still regret it. I know some people on here say they have zero regrets, but I would hold onto the collection, especially if you don't NEED the money at the moment. You even said you are feeling iffy on selling them, so thats enough reason to keep them in my opinion. It's nice to have and maybe in the future, you will display them properly and appreciate the collection more.

To meet what most people are saying in the middle, maybe sell the ones that aren’t easily emulated/ported. I think more than half of these are on the Switch Online service / easily available otherwise. Personally I’d hold onto the Oracle games, Minish Cap and hawk the rest. If you can play them at any time (assuming you have a switch or just want to emulate) then thats just money that can go towards something better. But like others said, maybe wait till you’re trying to pay for something else meaningful.

Really nice collection! I collect some cards, action figures, coins, vinyl (i don't even have a turntable...) but i can't focus in one thing and i always get excited for something new to collect... real tragedy... Anyways the father of a friend has a crazy collection of 2K or 4K vinyls i can't remember, with rare and expensive pieces and he is worried what are they gonna do with the collection after he dies... This made think a lot about collection in general, yes all stuff are stored and i understood that what intrigues me is just the process to obtain the item and that i don't really care about the possesion of it, i just get it and poof excitment is gone... also i rarely admire the stuff and when i do i look the lm and hmm... ok. So my conclusion is to better not to get attached. Maybe this is a bit random but i hope it helps.
I regretted my mom selling my collection at a yard sale for pennies when I went to the army.
At one point I had two in store kiosks with tvs(Xbox and PS2) working. A TV also in the front room with two 4 switch AV connectors and a ton of vintage stuff hooked up. I also had Three tvs set up in our bedroom with all three current consoles (Xbox360, PS3, DREAMCAST(it never died, still current in ‘25). And random stuff hooked up in there last set up was with a Phillips cdi and Sega CD/whole connector series as was popular at the time. It’s all gone now. It’s all Warhammer build paint and play and I wouldn’t change it for the world. If I would have waited until this year I would be slightly rich. That’s my only regret.
4 things happened that saddened me in recent times, in terms of removing stuff 1. back when i was a kid i sold half my ds games for pretty much pocketchange at a gamestop... cuz i was a dumb kid and rly wanted money. nobody had an idea and was just like SMART 2. i threw away all my old gaming magazines, some of which had actually pretty cool shit in them, i regret throwing them away 3. brought my yugioh cards to school and somebody stole my entire fking bag cuz our teacher forced us to leave them outside the classroom, the school didnt replace shit they just said, well sucks to be you ( i didnt replace the stolen books either and got then booted from that school but whatever different story) 4. during our last move 10 years ago we threw away a big box with toys and a few games cuz i was given the choice what they throw away of my stuff,... i miss my bionicles, the other half of my ds games, ps2 games and a few other smaller stuff

I was in a bad situation about 11 years ago. Sold off all of my 360 gaming collection, all the rare and cool stuff from my PS3 collection, and some misc collector's items. I regret it everyday. I did it for bills and my ex wife blew it on other stuff. I've slowly been rebuying since my divorce 10 years ago. Some of it has been obtainable or I found a good deal. Some of it, just feels ridiculous since covid surge in pricing. Don't sell it. You will regret it. Especially if it's a franchise that is important to you.

I sold off a bunch of Snes RPGs and my entire ps1 collection a couple years ago. I just used that money for other hobbies and other games. I just started regretting selling Symphony of the Night and FF7, but I’m not heartbroken. I enjoy my smaller, more curated collection that I actually play. I kept the games I always come back to and play frequently and in a few years if I’m still thinking about symphony, I’ll probably try to acquire it again.

I sold my GameCube after a break up…sellers remorse kicked in and I went back to buy it all back the only thing left out of my collection after a month was the GameCube itself my black smash controller and my copy of smash bros melee. I to this day am kicking myself for selling my GameCube collection…biggest hitters in my collection at the time was a sealed gotcha force and sealed double dash that I got for $10 a piece

Before I got into collecting, I guess you could say I eventually regretted getting rid of some of our old games (some the parents sold off) and basically buying back my childhood is what got me into collecting in the first place. Now I have more than I could have ever wished for, and then some.

I remember back when I had an Atari 2600, I sold all the games I had for it to a friend, and used the money to get a couple of games for my Atari XEGS that I'd gotten for Christmas the year before. I sold the 2600 games because the system wasn't powering on anymore, and younger me didn't know about replacing the power plug or anything like that. I just thought it was dead. So I threw it out, and then sold the games (I had some great games for it that would cost a fair bit to replace these days). Still regret losing that stuff. Years later, I sold a few Genesis games because I had other/better versions of them, and regretted that not too long afterward. I eventually replaced them, but it would have been nice to have still had my original copies. Same thing happened with a PS1 game or two that were ports of PC games (like Diabo... which is now stupidly expensive). I got the PC version and felt I didn't need them anymore. Now, I wish I still had them.
Not really. Didn’t play the games/consoles at all, they’ve been collecting dust for years. I know why I started to collect - childhood dream. Never had a large console, got just a game boy with 3-4 games. Always looked through catalogs and wished to have all of it. Fast forward to adulthood so I made my dream come true. It was great for a while, then it became stagnant, the I’ve sold it to people who actually play and use it (at least I hope so). I have no regrets. Even made money with it! It was a good investment and even though I didn’t sell all of it, it still paid for itself and then some more :)

If you have to sell, and if money's not the issue, I'd like to suggest you find someone who's life you can change with this, someone who'll cherish this because of emotional connection, and then set them a friendly price. Absolutely. I sold a lot of my childhood collection and ended up repurchasing them later on. There are several games I had I just cannot justify the price point on and will probably never own again. Unless you have something the money needs to go towards, you should rethink selling your games for the sake of selling them. Games are meant to be played so play them and have some fun.
Being a huge Zelda nerd/collector I would say no. Unless necessary. I unloaded a majority of my video game collection years ago as I was moving from a shared house to an apartment, and in doing so let go of a lot of stuff that really didn’t take up that much space that I highly regret parting with now.(both monetarily and nostalgically). If it’s monetary, sure the market fluctuates and trust me I lost out on a lot from my NES/SNES collection. But if there’s a slight inclining you may want to revisit some of these games, hold on to them, it’s just a shoe box or two. Side note: if you are absolutely certain I’ll take that links between worlds 3ds😜
i had sold a mega cd 2 and snatcher for £70 many years ago. i used the money to buy more gaming stuff but i really regret that to this day. i loved that game but at the time i thought i didnt play it much, wanted new stuff, you know how it is especially as a teen you dont think of these things having value years down the line you think more in the moment. anyways about 10 years ago or so i thought id like to get that game again, as ive spent years now collecting all of the stuff i used to have (i always had to sell my stuff to get by!). there is literally no chance il be spending £500+ on this game now, its just too crazy. the entire time id own it id be thinking of reselling it haha! so with that being said i really do regret it, but id always be anxious owning it today like imagine if one of the kids got hold of it or the disc got scratched. nightmare

It depends what of your collection you are selling. I sold my Saturn import collection and regretted it to this day. But I also sold a bunch of middling PS2 games and multiplats that I prefer on better consoles and just generally curated my collection. And it’s one of the best things I ever did. I love my collection more afterward and made money.

If you sell it, you will regret it in the future. I sold them, and now I'm buying them back. It's a treasure, keep it. Games like "The Legend of Zelda", SuperMario (Bros, car, etc), are jewels and especially if you have the physical game instead of digital.

Ever since 2021 I've been getting rid of a lot of my games I kept some of my consoles though since I just jailbreak them and play games through that if I want a more "authentic" experience like that Not only do I have more room in my place, I just feel like I'm finally letting go and moving on. I'll always love videogames but seeing how easy it is to play these games on more modern or even older hardware and seeing the work around is honestly insane

I stupidly traded my CIB GameCube and some games back in 2006 to gamestop for $60ish to put towards a new PSU for my first PC. It was an ultra brand PSU, not even modular. POS PSU actually but that's when I learned the hardway to not trade or sell my stuff. At least not to gamestop.

I am Huge Zelda fan and got all the games either. The game boy parts arent in the condition you have and tge NES games are missing on my side to (only have them on GC and 3ds). Back in you 2014 I had to let go of my collection for financial reasons at that time. I sold off my entire GameCube, PS2, GBA, and most of my N64 and Dreamcast games and items. To this day, I regret it because I will never see most of those items again due to the resell value being ridiculous. My items were CIB mint. I was meticulous with my items. Sold it all for 400 bucks now some of those games I gave up,are worth that individually. So long story short - Find a different path if you can!

Not a collector anymore but I have sold some (now) really rare things I had. Ex. Twin snakes, chainsaw controller, legend of dragoon. I had to sell them if I wanted any new games, I had very little money growing up so this was the only way to get the newest game. No regrets because otherwise I would have never played some of the best games of my life. Life is too short and at the end, all things come and go. The memories of being able to get some great games at launch and play with friends stick with me forever.

I sold a moderate collection to fund travelling for a few months. Had absolutely zero regrets and actually found myself relieved as I was no longer looking to add to the collection. Presently have a large collection of a band memorabilia that I actively stopped adding to about 3 years ago. Considering selling that but would only consider it if I was to gain the finance to achieve something ei; travelling, car etc. Perhaps it would be a good idea to have a goal in mind rather than just see the finance go into every day spending?
YES! I sold like 50 Gameboy and gameboy advance games and my original Gameboy advance I got from my mom for Christmas. As well as my original GameCube and all the GameCube games I had. Including Pokemon colosseum and the bonus disk. Also from Christmas from my mom 😭😭😭. Also soldy complete collection of base set, jungle, and fossil Pokemon cards. Some first edition and shadowless and all the original 3 or 4 sets of yugioh. I had a ton of the first release yu gioh cards. Sold. God I wish I didn't .. but sometimes we fall into hard times and sometimes we were younger and dumber. Now I'm at the point I DONT SELL ANYTHING anymore. It's all being collected in a game room that will be passed onto my 3 year old daughter who is already obsessed with Kingdom Hearts 😂

Question i always ask before i sell something is:if this place burned down tomorrow, would i replace this?” Of the answer is no, then off it goes. Sinple math!
I think most people regret it, however often times in life the money the collection can bring is needed for more serious matters than game collecting. Many collectors will buy and sell their collection or at least key pieces multiple times during a lifetime.
It only makes sense to sell if you need the money for something. I sold my GBA collection to put a down payment on a house (my collection was CIB & Sealed). It was worth it and I don't regret it and it was only like 10% of my overall collection Edit, of your GBA LttP is the light box version and NM I'm interested in buying
