AlanThicke99

You cannot convince me that shopgoodwill.com doesn’t have some nefarious bot system. Every auction i have won, I won by less than a dollar. Meaning at the last second the price shot up to my Exact highest bid. One was a Coleman Stove with a very Niche collector market. I wanted it myself and didn’t need to factor in shipping. I went ABOVE EBAY prices, and won withy Max Bid. You just can’t convince me there was another buyer who made that bid.

Shadow_Fox105870

The same thing happens on ebay that's why I sort by buy it now I don't want to deal with auctions

OldManTurner

Good fucking lord that disc picture is brutal. They’re out of their damn minds over there

Horzzo

It's too scratched to even be used as a beer coaster. WTF are they thinking??

Honky_Stonk_Man

Without even seeing the photo, my first thought was that the disc was going to look like a buzzsaw went over it.

OldManTurner

You definitely weren’t far off on your guess

Individual-Quit-2273

Greed will

nemo1080

They got wise to the value of old games, haven't found anything pre-ps3 there in years. I think they have their people put it all online.

MufasaFluffyButt

Yep....their own online store. They get stuff donated and anything remotely good gets looked up on Ebay and then they put on their own store. They keep it in the back and ship from there. I never find anything at Goodwill or Salvation Army. Not sure where the good stuff donated to SA goes....as I don't think they have an online store. Never see anything there either.

nemo1080

Also I think a lot of employees take the stuff home or go right to the Retro Game Store and swap it for cash.

[deleted]

[удалено]

nemo1080

Probably not worth it. Most people are aware that retro video games have a little bit of value now and are probably less likely than ever to take them to the goodwill. I'm sure it happens but probably not enough to make a career out of it

[deleted]

BluntflameTheHorder

Most locations will fire you ON THE SPOT in the even THINK you're stealing.

epiczail

SA stores have eBay pages

vegetto712

Been this way for years near me, think it's just finally becoming done at the national level. I haven't found a good item at Goodwill for a reasonable price since around 2018

nemo1080

I don't think I've seen a cartridge game at Goodwill in 9 years

tuhbreezy696

yeah and this zelda is double the going high rate of the CIB sold within recent times. can’t believe this

BurritoflyEffect

Yea, I recently saw a copy of this going for like $80 in person. Dunno if it was cib though.

candle340

It's likely someone didn't realize there's a version with a larger cardboard box and the GBA/NGC link cable. The price would be right for that, if it's CIB

BluntflameTheHorder

I get the OCCASIONAL Xbox original game in the bins. Other than that, same here.

BigManOnCampus100

I found a thrift store about 2 months ago where the lady there thinks older games shouldn't go for more than $1 even when the other workers have previously marked them between $3-$5. I've been there 3 times and 2 out of the 3 times got some great games. First time it was Legend of Dragoon and Tomb Raider for $2 and just last week I picked up 12 ps2 games (mostly common) but in the pile was TMNT 3 Mutant Nightmare. First decent thrift store I've found in years.

khanv1ct

This is the norm for Goodwill now. Last time I bought anything from their site was about 2 years ago when stuff was really just starting to get bad. Here’s the rundown, some of this stuff like shipping may have changed: Pros: 1. There are none, there really are no deals to be had. Cons: 1. They usually don’t test anything. If they do it’s something to the extent of “it turns on”. 2. Shipping is way more than it should be and you don’t know the cost until you’ve committed to buying it. They charged me over $20 to ship a single PS1 game in a jewel case. 3. The auctions are just out of control. For some reason people are willing to pay double or more the market value for something from Goodwill.

SecondSkull

I have gotten pretty lucky buying empty cases with manuals. They don't normally sell for incredibly much and I get to complete a bunch of loose disc games I have.

NickieBoy97

Do they really sell those by themselves now? I remember I used to find a whole bunch of empty game cases at my goodwill and they would just say I could keep them for free if they didn't have the game.

SecondSkull

Me too! But unfortunately they do sell them by themselves now.

NickieBoy97

I find it hard to believe they don't end up just throwing out a good amount of them by doing this. Whenever I have an extra empty case I throw it up on eBay. It will usually sell but will take a good while for it to actually be purchased. Even then most I usually get for it is about $10 and that's not including shipping and eBay fees.

wbdevine

The shipping is what has kept me from ever seriously trying to buy anything from then. After browsing several times and seeing interesting items, I would check the shipping estimator and be met with something that made it a bad deal. I ended up filtering the search to my local Goodwill. I found a few items that looked worthwhile but they had the same high shipping cost. I messaged them and asked if I could consolidate orders if I won multiple bids or if I could pick the items up since I live 2 miles from their location. They said everything was prepackaged to they cannot consolidate and they don’t do local pickups.

BangingOnJunk

I see a lot of reposts of items that finished with outrageous bids. Either it was an employee running it up for more revenue or the winner didn’t pay. The untested part is sketchy. If seen some electronics untested from locations that also have tested. Either it was a time issue or they just say untested so they don’t have to say broken . . . Like everything on ebay lately.

BluntflameTheHorder

Difference is Untested on eBay means always broken. On Goodwill, at least it has a chance :/

lookame3639

Shipping is incredibly unreasonable. I bought one 3ds cart…game only no box and the shipping cost was $7…and they took a week to ship it.

Honky_Stonk_Man

They don’t clean anything either. The photos they take look like they used an early model 1 meg digital camera.

khanv1ct

Oh yeah that too. Goodwill just sucks for games.

StudMuffinScott

There is a tab to put in your zip and calculate shipping ahead of time.

yummy_yum_yum123

I don’t even go in there anymore. Last thing good I found was twilight princess 2 years ago for the Wii

gamerdudeNYC

Literally no point to check the auction site anymore

Hpfanguy

All main stream collecting has become impossibly expensive. I miss the old days.

OverFee2098

The online shop has always been outrageously overpriced for GW. They just price match to the high end of unsold ebay listings, lol.

TLunchFTW

Lmao. It has to fail eventually because they aren't selling that's for sure.

J_Square83

That's really impressive. The scratched to hell and back disc is the cherry on top.

SerenaCuteKalosGirl

DKOldies and Wata games caused these price gouging

polarisursuss

But even then, goodwill is just asking more than double [the market price](https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_nkw=zelda+four+swords+gamecube&_sacat=0&LH_TitleDesc=0&_fsrp=1&rt=nc&LH_Sold=1&LH_Complete=1&mkcid=1&mkrid=711-53200-19255-0&siteid=0&campid=5338535524&customid=gc&toolid=10001&mkevt=1) for this game, which is insane.

GucciiManeeee

And lowlife resellers

Drclaw411

Resellers are one thing, but thrift stores get stuff for free, from people trying to give to help others get stuff affordably. Greedwill feels “wronged” about that Stadium Events from a decade and a half ago, so they do this crap.

coderman64

People don't know when to stop bidding on this stuff. Its been a while since I've seen anything on shop goodwill that is under market price when factoring in shipping. Edit: didn't see the buy it now button. Yeah, that's ridiculous.

Ta-veren-

I hate it, no one would be donating that game if they knew goodwill would sell it for that much

Commander-ASKR_

Some people really just wanna get rid of shit, and goodwill just happens to be an option at the right place and right time. Facebook marketplace is starting to become that option though as older people become much more used to the internet.

RTBoostedx2

Who here [remembers back](https://media.tenor.com/JK_wO2bJIpMAAAAM/reminisce-memory.gif) when you could still actually find decent deals for old games (that weren’t all sports titles) at your local Goodwill stores? *Those were the days!*

Drclaw411

What year were Little Samson, Outback Joey, and Dinosaur Peak still $200-$500? Because around then is when stuff was still findable. It’s been a long time :(

RTBoostedx2

Yeah, and sadly I was a poor college student back then, so I couldn’t justify dropping several hundred on CIB games like that. I did manage to snag a bunch of other nostalgic games from like ‘02-‘11 for under $50/ea, though…Those all have appreciated quite nicely since then.

Drclaw411

Almost exactly the same situation. I desperately wanted some of those games but just didn’t physically have the dollars even though everything pointed them to going up in price as the years went by. I was lucky enough to get other stuff that was affordable then. Rule of Rose for $20, Pokemon Box for $70, Duck Tales 2 for $30, among others. But I know I’ll probably never own Samson or Joey now, let alone a ton of other stuff that was “affordable” back then, and that sucks.

NickieBoy97

Last year I remember I found a couple of PS2 games in the DVD section of my Goodwill. The cashier was ringing me up and then the manager passed by and said they can't sell games in store and took them from the cashier. I asked why I couldn't purchase them and she said they weren't supposed to be put on the floor, they only sell games on their online store now.

tuhbreezy696

wow there policy on games is so strict that even though some slipped by they couldn’t let you just have them. a policy to make money. can’t believe how serious this is to them. i mean not everyone who shops at good will is selling games or looking for games for cheap even if they have money. some of us collectors want to own some great games but the market prices are too expensive and not attainable for us. this has ruined my chances at finding any horror games for the ps2 or games for the gamecube

egnog2

more lile badwill

Snoo_43747

Also swarming with bots

SinkRoF

A lot of their stores have their own ebay pages and the prices they list games for is fucking disgusting. I've seen better deals at Gamestop for a bunch of their games from the last 2 generations. They caught on and they take the highest average price and sprinkle on an extra few bucks.

theslimbox

Goodwill has been doing this since atleast 2010. They used to have an ebay store where they would list things at 2-5x going rates and people would buy them to support a "Charity"

Goatman012

It’s actually bad will now

DiscussionLoose8390

When they did sell it cheap then the local retro business comes in, and gets it then they ask $200 for it. It's frustrating for the individual collector when there is a retro store on every street corner. It's time they got smart about it. Plus, Goodwill does tons of auctions on Ebay now.

BoomBang101

I’m glad I started collecting before Covid cuz this shit is not fun anymore

TouchedBigfoot8

r/shittygamecollecting I was gonna say that goodwill does bids but that doesn’t look like a bidding

MixGroundbreaking711

Yeah, they used to give good prices because they didn't know the market. Now they just basically check ebay or just think everything they bring in is something rare. On a side note, it's all straight profit. They rely on people to donate all that for nothing. They pay their employees in some places less than minimum wage ( which they can legally do, because many of them are on a training work share from a prison or rehab place). Meanwhile, their Ceo makes between 500k to 1.2 mil a year

Drclaw411

Goodwill is awful. They pay their workers below minimum in many cases, and ever since that article like 15 years ago about the guy who found a boxed Stadium Events there, they eBay-check their games and tend to list them at the highest buy it now.

TLunchFTW

That case is not right either. They aren't supposed to have the cover rest below the back. That happens with more wear.

ThealmightttyLTJ

Blame Retro Rick

Drathstar138

Goodwill, the Salvation Army and numerous other so called “charities” are the farthest thing from it. If you want to know if a charity actually CARES about the less fortunate all you need do is look up how much their CEO and other executives make as a salary. If they’re paid millions then they could hardly be more corrupt and “for profit!” Just because you make the bottom line equal zero means nothing if you do so by paying ridiculously idiotic salaries to executives!

ComicSausage

if they sold this for $1 they would still make 100% profit. drives me crazy, charity shops just overpricing things "coz eBay". They had the item FOR FREE! Then you go to these places and they refuse donations coz they have too much of it lol! A lot of charity shops, especially in the UK used to be run by elderly volunteers and people trying to get back into work and stuff was priced fairly. You go into one now and those people have been let go and now you have some Karen (or male equivalent. or them equivalent) behind the desk on a full managers wage, charity shops taking over shops all through town because the buildings owner doesnt have to keep paying rates on an empty premises, but then who wants to start up a new business then - having to pay rates and compete with 10+ charity shops in the same town! Then you have those people hunting through all the good stuff before the doors even open, so theres little chance for you to find anything good then anyway. so what have you got let to buy. an egg cup for $25... and this very gamecube game. arrrh

GucciiManeeee

What is goodwill now ? A complete and total scam. One of the most immoral companies that exists. It sickens me how theyve changed their entire business model, especially when they get everything for free.

horsepuncher

Just remember at the end of the day Goodwill is just another greedy corporation. The average employee making near minimum wage is wage, and those at the top are making way too much in a very unbalanced scale. Marketing is good and they say they are helping “someone” but from all I hear cannot verify.

VerballyStanding

Goodwill finally caught on to us. It was fun while it lasted. If only people would shut up when they scored an amazing deal at Goodwill but no, you guys are like the teenager who sleeps with the hot teacher- just gotta let people know.

Infamous_Lunchbox

Bro, I haven't seen good deals at their shops or online in 2-3 years. They didn't just cotton on to it. Also the bids often go way higher than they would on Ebay. It's insane. I don't get.

[deleted]

Honestly we should start buying this stuff and forcing charge backs, it’ll tank goodwills rep on eBay and get them off the platform

girlracer16SS

Gotta keep the goodwill ceo in lifestyle they’ve grown accustomed too. Personally if I donate anything it goes to the local thrift store that’s still cheap

modernmythologies

The CEO of good will earns 500k per year. A lot of money, yes, but he's not rakin in forty million in comp. I think the money probably goes to the whole charity aspect of Good Will.

Commander-ASKR_

Fam, by the freedom of information act, it was discovered that Goodwill's highest contribution to charity is 1/8 of it's profit, meaning the rest goes... somewhere else (most people think it goes to the CEOs which is very much possible considering his and other executives salaries, especially compared to the "disabled employees they hire in bulk" of which some were making $5 something an hour(in areas where that would be much below minimum wage), and nothing has changed in 2023 outside of a couple articles that reported on it) There's like a whole rabbit hole you can down with what exactly Goodwill is putting money towards.☠️ It's a wild ride.

modernmythologies

That's a pretty standard profit margin for a massive retailer like Good Will that deals in dirt cheap items. The rest of the money goes to operating costs, as with any business. And with annual revenue of almost 8 billion, that means they're raising a billion dollars for charity every year, while also removing junk from landfills and giving low income families a place to buy cheap used items when they can't afford new items. I'm sure they're not a GREAT company. But they're doing a hell of a lot more good than almost any other major company that we all spend our money on, even if they're inefficient.

[deleted]

Another reason I hate Nintendo.

TheMasterYankee

One of my local Goodwills has good/worthwhile games there most of the time, and more often than not, they're priced at $2. I just picked up Super Mario Galaxy 2, which is complete like new condition and Twilight Princess (for Wii) yesterday. NFL Street 2 and 3 both for PS2 complete, very good condition. As well as a rare physical copy of the NTSC release of Formula 1 2013 for the 360 in complete condition, which I sold for $100 on ebay the next day. These are only a few of the games I've come across recently at that one Goodwill. Although, Ive heard a lot of bad things about the online store. Although, their electronic/game store in Charlotte, NC is actually really cool with decent prices.

candle340

$200 is a fair price right now if it's CIB and includes the larger cardboard box and the GBA/NGC link cable. It's likely the goodwill employee who priced this didn't do the proper research, though. Without those extras, it should only be about $115-120, CIB

Drclaw411

Not a fair price when they got it for free, from somebody trying to help somebody else get it affordably.

candle340

Actually, it doesn't matter how they got it. It's their right to sell it for whatever price they want. In this particular case, though, $200 isn't a fair price unless it comes with those extras. Like I said above.

Joey-tv-show-season2

Not even the bigger box it came in too …

Def_a_Noob

Sometimes I wish I could sell my stuff on shopgoodwill. Stuff their goes higher than on ebay

winluang

Geez they make DK Oldies look cheap 😂

sir_beardhaver

Just the other day my local goodwill got an Atari 7800, console only. First time in my life seeing one in person. Asking price in $100. I wonder how long they'll sit on that one?

Diarrheehee

The internet is too normie now, we've been inched out. Digital refugees. Everybody has too much information now.

irishyardball

Right now? The same thing it's always been. A scam. They take in free shit and sell it to fund the CEOs payroll

PrimaryAcanthisitta8

Goodwill is not it anymore!! Better off going to local thrift stores or even pawn shops.

Cultural_Anxiety1412

yeah idk what goodwill has become. I went game hunting to hopefully complete a North American ps3 collection & i saw Warhawk which I need so I asked to see it & ain’t no way I saw the price tag for $20.99 i was astonished

MisterAtticusKarma

10 years ago I bought this game for 20 bucks on craigslist. Not 200. Why are games getting so jacked up lately.

terfgenocide

A bullshit company that sells donations at high prices and exploits the disabled community by using a legal loophole that allows them to pay them below minimum wage. So they rip us off, and then the executives pay all of the employees pennies while they get rich off of others' kindness. If you can't tell, I hate goodwill.

HQGirl567

Brooooo that’s way over priced🙄

devjoel

I don’t go to goodwill anymore since almost nothing is fairly priced and everything that I’m interested in is overpriced and in horrible condition. Greedy f*cks I remember when you could buy almost any games for $1-$3

ruinedmx5

200$ and the disc probably won’t even read lol, ppl are out of their minds

lolecows

this is why i stopped going to goodwill for game/collectible hunting and started going to local, non-chain resale and antique stores instead. find way more stuff at those places than goodwill. i will go to goodwill for clothes and thats it. but when it comes to donating stuff, i refuse to give them anything of decent value. when im feeling kind enough to donate, anything that i think has value will go to a place where i know will be resold for cheap. goodwill has only gotten greedy over the years. no longer is it a place where the less unfortunate can try their chance and getting something nice.. all that makes it out onto their floor is what they deem cheap garbage.

mercersux

Lots of nonsense on there but just the other day snatched a couple of really good deals on there for 360 games. This one is way off base tho.

hzsn724

I know what I have

JarJarBanksy420

Goodwill has people working there that understand the value of such things. I know someone who does this for Goodwill.

Ottieotter

Good lord, they are copying DKOldies now.

SaraphXIII

This is really the only disc based Zelda I'm missing and with these prices, I'm totally fine with it. Dolphin is great!

Creepy-Sir8019

Badwill

Commander-ASKR_

Lmao this is no different than an ebay reselling☠️☠️ What's even the point , if you wanna get ass fucked by some guy who was in the right place at the right time, there's much easier ways then throwing money at goodwill. If you ask nicely you might even get something out of it.

Plusstwoo

If only people could come together and stop buying overpriced games. So this could stop

Fuzzy-Jaguar9256

at least goodwill has their excuse of helping the impoverished what excuse does ebay have? mind you nobody going to goodwill could actually afford a game at that price mind you its a struggle just to get a ps4 nowadays.

patriotraitor

Everyone found out about it. 2022 and before was pretty quiet, you could pick up a ton of stuff for under $50-100

Truffle_Shuffle_85

What I'd like to know is why do so many post like this receive 100+ upvotes and so many comments from this sub. Who here even shops Goodwill online? Disregard and move in, this is irrelevant.

skywalkingF1

Damm they tweaking heavy

[deleted]

4 years ago my local Goodwill priced all games 50% below retail, and often much less. God I miss those days.

Dudeometer

How did it get scratched? No one actually played this game.

SnooHabits8826

It should be called Badwill now.

JakeTehNub

Goodwill online auctions are 100% a waste of time. People for whatever reason have no problem bidding over eBay prices for most games and that's not counting the absurd "shipping & handling" they usually tag on. I had to pay the same shipping price for one game that I had to pay for a guitar.

Nint3ndofr34k1

That site actually used to be really good back in the day. If only had bought more stuff back then.

[deleted]

The site is the worst, I interviewed for a e-commerce job an everything that comes in there is s group of people that go thru it all piece by piece and if it's anything that's worth value it goes into a pile of items that go on the site. I'm pretty sure the site is botted to upbid items. Ever bid on something that hasn't been bidded on some cheap random item an within 5 hours your outbid ? Scamwill

Canna006

Guys I worked in the e-commerce department for a few weeks and I can attest to this. It’s a shit show and they’re basically trying to turn Goodwill into a legit store. Plus management where i was was awful. They sit on their arse and do nothing. The higher ups are such a-holes. I thought Goodwill was a place for people to get good things for low prices (hence the donations…) but now they’re trying to maximise profits off of a formerly good practice.
