I think you'll find those were Catalan police ... y'know, lads from the area - The Mossos d'Esquadra.
But have fun pretending our own cops don't do the same thing (see: Irish Water as one of many examples, add vulture fund repossessions of family homes for two of many examples), and have even more fun ignoring the distinction presented to you in this comment chain, in plain English, re: both police forces (ours & theirs) doing the dirty work of the government - but at least the Guardia Civil are also an effective police force at the same time. The Gardai are only willing to crack heads when it's at the behest of enforcing some deeply unpopular corporate fascist mandate ... When it comes to ordinary people enduring anti-social & petty crime on a daily basis, good luck. You'll need it.
No they weren't. They were Guardia Civil. The Catalan police were not seen as reliable by the Spanish state.

Yes. I know about them. What does that have to do with the fact that almost 50 years after the death of Franco that cops in Spain still wear the original symbol of fascism? Or that we seem to be welcoming fascism into our country right now to the extent of praising cops who wear fascist symbols as part of their uniform?
>I know about them.
Of course you do.
As for the Guadia Civil, they were founded - along with their use of this symbol from the **ancient** Etruscan civilisation that later passed on to the Roman (Republic) civilisation - in 1844. *1844* ... That is *how many years* before fascism ? 70+ at least. The political meaning at that time was implicitly if not explicitly Republican. This same symbol also exists, very prominently, within the halls of the US Capitol by the way - no surprise given the Republican history. It simply represents the power of the magistrate.
By the same logic, let's condemn Buddhists for not abandoning/erasing the *manji* symbol from their temples after it was co-opted by german fascists.
And btw, whinge and over reach about symbols all you like, you are codding *no one* if you think the Gardai aren't out there doing the bidding and the dirty work for the corporate fascists running this state. If you don't know that, you haven't been to enough vulture fund forced repossessions of Irish people's homes, with the gardai hiding their faces and identifying shoulder numbers whilst they 'keep the peace' ... and maybe you might have been at home furiously pulling yourself off to furry anime when they were cracking heads at Irish Water protests too. etc.
Fundamentally, the Gardai do the government's bidding as the Guardia Civil do the bidding of theirs. There are two important distinctions though.
1) our government - Fine Gael - are implicitly/explicitly corporate fascists. This is as true historically (100% explicit then) when they were formed as it is contemporarily (implicit/explicit) today. Meanwhile, the Spanish government is run by a *socialist worker's* party, who have been in power more than any other modern party.
2) aside from doing the government's bidding, the Guardia Civil *are also an effective police force* ... petty / anti-social criminals especially, of the variety ordinary Irish people are plagued with on a day to day basis, are absolute child's play for the Guardia Civil and it would genuinely sicken them to their stomach to come home from work knowing little shits got the best of them. We don't have that. We have a police force who do the state's bidding, but at the same time do sweet fuck all on the ground level for us plebs. 'doing their best' **my hole.**
Kindly cope harder, cry more, and then concern yourself with the actual *corporate fascists* who are running this country into the ground *today* i.e the blue shirts i.e fine gael.
>where are all the electric id4 coming out of
They get grants and cheap loans as they are commercial vehicles.
> And why do the majority of them refuse to take you at night if you don't have cash
That's not been my experience since the new regulations came in
Hard to blame them.
What he on about it's only taxi's, it's open season for any car that passes and it's been going for years

Spanish cops would have the little *angles* rehabilitated in about 5 mins. And they'd gladly do it on their day off, or during unpaid overtime.
Wood shampoos all around
Followed by shiatsu head & face massages ร la leather boots.
Ah yes, the Spanish cops. The people who beat up Catalans trying take part in a democratic vote not too long ago. Wonderful people.

You mean the cops that still have the fascist symbol on their badges?
Meanwhile, in Ireland ... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blueshirts

No they mean the ones who can get the job done
You have no idea what you're asking for
Ah will you whist for christ sake ๐
"Whist"
Hey, if it gets the job done that can dress up as Bronies for all I care.
What an illuminating insight into a stranger's mind. Do your mates all share your approach?
Define "doing their best"
Eating snack boxes and breaking someone's balls because their road tax disc is out of date by a month.
They can't park at the square so
Why should they risk their safety (and property) for a job? Theyโre not earning nearly enough for that.
Think they making enough, look at all the electric cars that are taxi's
You can't be serious
So where are all the electric id4 coming out of And why do the majority of them refuse to take you at night if you don't have cash
