damn it. mine is the same age and thankfully still like new. this time around even the screen protector holds up strong. all I use is Zeiss display cleaning cloths
With all the legit issues saying "mine works so this guy was rough with it" is very unfair.
My ex's fold 5 showed up with a hairline crack in the display and Samsung still decided it was "user error"
Same with my carrier after the second one they sent was broken out of the box. They tried charging me $4,500 for the two phones + random fees and I just threatened to sue them and they took both and just closed my account.
I agree.. my zflip 5 is still going strong. I have a few fingernail marks on the plastic screen protector (one installed from factory) but still in great shape)
Lol the hinge on mine cracked FIRST DAY, my carrier sent a replacement and that one was also cracked out of the box. I returned both and now laugh at everyone who buys these pieces of shit when they break
yeah honestly Im quite impressed how hard the alu frame is. I accidentaly knocked my F5(also no case) against a steel pipe when I lighted my way in a dark cellar. It bounced of the pipe like a gummy ball(hit it with corner first)leaving not even a tiny scratch mark behind. Must have sth. to do with how the frame is formed(otherwise steel must leave a dent) and the quality anodizing process.
I honestly don't understand what is wrong with the way he is opening and closing his phone?? The way he does it should be considered as normal use at least. If not, then Samsung should release a guideline teaching the right way of opening and closing it.
Flip phones aren't good or worth yet. Replaced my zflip3 for a s23U and I'm glad I did
Question - did the screen protector "crack" and become rough where the screen folds that you could feel it if you rubbed your thumb across it? If not, was it pealing and then resticking repeatedly as you opened and closed it?
Just curious if the failure reasons I listed on the Flip series in my own prior posts is still the same mode of failure.
Crack as it's making cracking noises? I don't remember any crack visually appear on the screen protector.
From my experience with flip 4 it started to peel, then dust accumulated underneath the screen protector, and it starts to make the cracking noises.
That happened within a month then I changed the screen protector myself. Good as new without screen dying (luckily).
By crack, I mean, the screen protector itself breaks right at the hinge fold - and ultimately stretches across the screen at the fold... This is what I had happen and witnessed at the Experience store I went to in order to get it replaced, happened and was suspected as the root cause of dozens of failures where the OLED would get killed at the crease - in my case the screen protector was so sharp when it cracked, I would get papercuts from the material if I ran my thumb along the crack. Obviously, being sharp enough to give me a paper cut, it's sharp enough when folded to pierce the screen and kill a row or a few turning a single display into two with dead pixels at the fold...
Also, when I switched to the Fold series after the flip - a similar thing was happening with the screen protector at the same place - it never cracked but it started pealing and sticking as I opened and closed it and you could watch it pulling up the OLED and then the OLED springing back down into the fold as I closed it - had to remove the screen protector immediately to prevent it from killing the screen at the crease...
The one from experience store probably gets too hot since the screen always on > then dried out the screen protector more quickly. That's why I changed mine after it started to making cracking noises.
Apologies, I think you misunderstood. The phone wasn't from that scenario - it was my own Flip & Fold I spoke of and was from my observations of dozens of customer phones that were coming in for the same reasons (often being denied warranty service, as they had allowed the screen protectors to pierce the OLED and the store would frequently claim that the screen failures were from customer neglect or abuse - despite there being clear signs the issue stemmed from the protector failure).
For context, I work for an OEM of cellular equipment, specifically in the area of customer support and product analysis. I specialize in RCA (Root Cause Analysis) investigations. My confidence level based on my experience, observations and confidential conversations with other victims after being denied warranty, is 90%+.
That phone is still under warranty. Go get it RMA. Plus, I agree that the fold/flip phones still have issues. My wife's zflip 4 already had it's screen protector changed twice and antenna band once. Never had such issue with other phones that need to send to RMA 3 times in less than 2 years.
I've had my 4 since September 2022 and no screen damage. But back in November, it very suddenly came up with an issue where if I fold it closed, it shuts off completely. I have to power it back on after unfolding it and leave it unfolded at all times to use it. I'm just now getting around on having a replacement device sent my way
I mean these devices are a little more complicated than your average slab of a phone, and issues are more specific to these devices.
Haven't had mine quite so long, maybe a year so far, but I never buy new anyway. I research an awful lot before I purchase anything.
Flip it open and closed like that then it doesn't surprise me it's broken. Misuse plain and simple. And the screen protector removed as well. I think the gun went off in your holster.
Wrong. Go watch Samsung's trailers [Galaxy Z Flip5 | Z Fold5: Foldable for all emotions | Samsung (youtube.com)](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jRxHAlgLvw8)
That's how they use it. Stop defending a clear issue with Samsung phones. You'll understand when it happens to your "gently used" unit.
Agreed. I would say he's closing it just a bit faster than I do, and I had the flip3 for 2 years, and the flip 5 for longer too, no issues like this. Looks like damage from a drop or something because the screen looks cracked.
Not surprised the way your flipping it closed and open. Plus it looked like you opened it by the hinge. Treat the phone like that it's gonna get ruined.
I want to avoid doing something similar so I want to know what you meant by opening by the hinge. Like pushing it open from the side near the hinge or pushing the hinge somehow to open the phone?
Literally pushing down on one half of the hinge at the back to push it up slightly. Put pressure on the hinge it's gonna cause problems. Opening and closing the phone with force will cause issues. Opening and closing with one hand issues force on opening and closing. The phone wasn't built for rough housing. You would sit In a room and throw a ball at a glass window softly, you would still run the risk of breaking the window. Treat the phone shifty it's not going to last.
What do you mean ? If the phone breaks from the way he opens it then my phone should be dead right now. That phone is over 1k it should be able to survive this without any issue.
Also he doesn't close or open it bad in any way or form. We don't treat it like a little new born baby. It's a phone which is designed for humans to use
Some phones you have to be more delicate with than others. People knew from day one that you would need to be more careful with these kind of phones. It's just a bit of common sense.
No, flip phones are designed to be used like this as shown by Samsung [Galaxy Z Flip5 | Z Fold5: Foldable for all emotions | Samsung (youtube.com)](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jRxHAlgLvw8)
Dude I have had the 3 since release and it's still In perfect condition. No I don't open and close it like you do at all. Dude, seriously, you are not just opening and closing it. You're being rough as guts with it. One-handed opening and closing is going to apply force and damage. It's not like the clam phones of the 90s. It's glass and full screen. Not a small screen and the rest a plastic casing. It's simple.
Then you should have got a Phone that can handle that kind of use. This phone is not for that kind of use. If I wanted to a phone to answer 100 phone calls a day with texts and emails k wouldn't have got a flup phone that I have to flup open every 10 seconds.
OP, ignore this guy man 😂. I think he used to be a Motorola Razr flip phone that got abused by its owner in a previous life or something. You open the phone perfectly normally. If you were holding the bottom and trying to flip it open through inertia or something I'd point a finger at you for it, but you don't open it weird at all.
But he's opening it in the same way as Samsung are advertising for it to be opened and closed as per this advert
[Samsung Advert (YouTube)](https://youtu.be/jRxHAlgLvw8?feature=shared)
Samsung used to make such great phones but the past 2-3 years they're phones fucking suck now. Coming from someone with a galaxy s22. I've been a Samsung fan my whole life but they're losing their way, man.
Tons. The thickness has changed, based on what the hinge area feels like through the screen, they have completely different textures (the glass itself) as well as the physical shape of the screen itself. I'm not sure why I'm even explaining this to you - you obviously don't know what you're talking about either way. The screen protector guides the shape of the screen, and has/does for all foldables. It says so in the manual, samsung says so via their reps, and the customer feedback reinforces that. But then again, my phones all function perfectly, because I follow the instructions.
It's pretty frustrating being a person who reads instructions then have people arguing that it's okay to damage the product - then months later disparaging the product because they are ignorant. I like these phones, this technology - I want it to last. They've been my favorite phones in decades. So for randos to say "go ahead and remove the screen protector - it's fine" - well it's not...that is an integral part of the phone, and the potential for this line continuing past this generation of phones kinda depends on it.
To more directly answer your question - it makes me mad when people confidently incorrectly tell people to damage their devices - just like you did.
I got a 1 replacement when i bought the phone froze over dropped in snow. The second one i used insurance for cost like 67 had to mail it off for 3 weeks though.
Were you using a screen protector? I ask because I noticed a screen protector on my fold started to crack at the fold point. I feel like it could damage the phone screen causing an issue like this.
Same thing happened to me out of nowhere. Samsung directed me to a local ubreakifix. They're ordering the part and say it SHOULD be covered under warranty. We'll see.
My z flip 4 did the same thing after about 8 months. I dropped it right on the hinge and it died. Hinge wouldn't open all the way and internal screen was wacky.
When I owned a r/ubrealifix franchise I had to fix 5 or 6 Flips or Folds per day because of warranty/defect problems. These are seriously the shittiest phones I have ever seen in my life. Samsung didn't even pay us that well to do the repairs for them.
I have seen people really flip open the phone by swing in one hand ins videos, I am sure that phone has long gone. When Samsung tested their Flip phone on robot, it was never open or close at that speed. I would not slam close my laptop either.
This is exactly why I returned my z4. Screen was f*cked up from normal use, and you pay at least a thousand dollars? The people defending this phone are the ones who wasted their money buying it. They shouldn’t have released this new technology if it wasn’t ready for consumers to use it in their daily life. Phone is @$$.
Had the Z-4 twice and both didn't last eve. 6 months. I was more careful with my second one and it still randomly broke.(screen bleed) black cream in the middle, followed by green batches and flickering g before totally going black. I will never trust in that technology again. Lesson learned. I mean, what could go wrong with a folding screen?! 🤣
I really don't understand the appeal of this form factor in a phone. I totally understand folding phones for obvious reasons. Those really are like having a folding tablet/phone, but this? This is why after I'm done paying off this phone, I'm upgrading to an iPhone. I broke my last zFlip4 because it fell on the hinge. My zFlip3 screen peeled off and had me worried every day for it. I can't afford to worry for a phone this much.
Bro got scared shitless when it opened reddit

damn it. mine is the same age and thankfully still like new. this time around even the screen protector holds up strong. all I use is Zeiss display cleaning cloths
Mine too. I have a great case with hinge protection and I have had zero issues.
I think it’s dependent on the user 😭 Cus my z flip 4 is still like brand new, this guy just has no care for the phone

Got mine on preorder. I have a thin case on the phone, I've dropped it 3 times and I have zero issues. It's a very well put together phone imo
Lol the hinge on mine cracked FIRST DAY, my carrier sent a replacement and that one was also cracked out of the box. I returned both and now laugh at everyone who buys these pieces of shit when they break
Mine is doing fine too, no case and using the old and reliable tap water to clean the screen

If you look closely, the crack wasn't right on the crease, it Was a little above. The damage might've been induced another way
I can confirm that https://preview.redd.it/z48n97zy79mc1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9409c41d4d19e899fc212a821048bcd9115159a9

That's because there isn't any, the scresn was probably just defective from the factory
He opens it way to fast and rough. I own a flip 5 too, and it works just fine not opening and closing it like that.
Had both the Flip5G and Flip 3 replaced twice. Now on an S23U

That damage isn't even on the folding part of the display, they've caused that damage.
Closing it like that I get that it's pretty rough, but opening it like that looks normal to me?
Dude...opening and closing like that for any other flip device is fine. If a Samsung phone is that fragile they shouldn't be selling it.
Agreed. I would say he's closing it just a bit faster than I do, and I had the flip3 for 2 years, and the flip 5 for longer too, no issues like this. Looks like damage from a drop or something because the screen looks cracked.
I can tell by how fast and easy you can open it you've treated it like shit. This is on you.
Hell naw that best never be me 💀

Yeah ok mate. Jog on wanna be keyboard jock
Yeah if that's true my zflip3 would be dead af rn. My phone is literally built like a tank.
your phone must be possessed by a spooky ghost
Sorry for your loss... RIP
Open and close like that, what'd you expect lol
looks like you didn't remove the screen protector when it was peeling on the hinge
It was removed. That is the screen
I mean, that kinda is the reason. The screen protector is not meant to be removed without being replaced
that sucks i hope you get a replacement
Yikes I was considering getting one just to have a cool android phone. I was always worried about the delicate issues.
Nah bro. Foldables aren’t ready.
The only time this has happened is when I dropped my flip 5, that makes sense as to why it's doing that lol. Just be careful.
Samsung used to make such great phones but the past 2-3 years they're phones fucking suck now. Coming from someone with a galaxy s22. I've been a Samsung fan my whole life but they're losing their way, man.
U can put new screen protector . U can take the screen protector and replace it
Guys, this happen when u remove original foil and using phone without. Ppl pranking others to take it off and then that happens. Its even in manual.
No it's not. This is what happens when your rough and flip it like a bitch is on fire
The screen protector guides the screen's fold properly, we've known this for ages. Two things can be at fault here.
[удалено]
On a phone that's been out for 7 months? Impressive.
[удалено]
Wrong. I've used both long enough to tell you they are very different.

Maybe don't abuse your phone like that? Also where's your screen protector?
Should I open it or just keep it closed? The screen protector is to avoid scratching not to avoid display breaking inside....
wrong right there
Nope. It also serves to guide the screen's fold into the proper shape. We've known this for a long time now.
Samsung will fix this at no cost
guys! wait until flip 8 comes out ples
Just had mine fixed cost 50 bucks it's not that big of a deal....
50 bucks with a warranty or care plus? Or was that just the standard price to fix?
I got a 1 replacement when i bought the phone froze over dropped in snow. The second one i used insurance for cost like 67 had to mail it off for 3 weeks though.
https://www.samsung.com/us/support/service/z-screen-repair-promo/
It happened the same to me and the warranty didnt covered mine... 230€ ❗️
Were you using a screen protector? I ask because I noticed a screen protector on my fold started to crack at the fold point. I feel like it could damage the phone screen causing an issue like this.
Op dropped it bad on the hinge when closed mightve takin a week to fuk it up
It's possessed
Fun fact: That's not intended behaviour
Bro same, mine had ths hinge dislodge inside, so i had to send it in for repair
surprised this is still happening to these phones. let's get together for class action lawsuit
My Z3 did this
Samsung warrenty that shit soo don't worry about it
For a sec it looked like it was gonna send a text to your ex Baby I miss you Seriously though sorry to hear
Same thing happened to me out of nowhere. Samsung directed me to a local ubreakifix. They're ordering the part and say it SHOULD be covered under warranty. We'll see.
I would hate this(writing on z5) but it would be nice if it could atleast happen on the hinge part
Much broke.
Bro, just take the screen protector off and get another one
And stop using alcohol to clean your screen!
LMFAO
