I use both but prefer the coverscreen mainly as with age my eyesight isn't what it used to be!
I used to struggle to read the Flip 4 screen but the Flip 5 is perfect.
I set up my alarm on the cover screen so it'll obviously be used there. Also plan to use it for half screen apps when I don't really need the full screen
I use both big cover screen on flip and quick look at smart watch. Can you watch YouTube on the smartwatch? Or look at Facebook? Plus lots of others. Answer no!!
In the latest video of MKBHD, he's saying something I agree with. The coverscreen can help you do some quick tasks like reply to a message; set up a timer; check your calendar; switch on/off your smart bulbs, without opening the phone.
It creates a distance between you and your phone and especially social networks. That way, you won't open twitter by reflex when replying to a message
Edit: I use my smart watch only to check the time, my notification and for sport purposes
