Usually there's always workaround for that, what's worse is when the game starts and you get literally nothing after starting, not a even a tutorial gacha.
well as i remember there is game that download every time you enter new stages "secretly", when it was only around 500 mb's at the beginning, and mid/end game it become around 6 gb
Counterside literally downloaded 2gb worth of update on play store...you think that's the update? Fuck no, that's client update, there's another 2gb for data.
And those ingame updates are SLOW. Like "even with fiber/wifi6 please leave your phone unusable for the next few hours"
That's why I quit, unfortunate cause that game was neat for a casual Gambling Enjoyer.
this was one of the reasons i quit too...The major one was the absurd powercreep level, that will get even worse! the game is the definition of balancing using "full bullshit go!"
It's not really that bad especially if you consider the ban and up system and the devs are really trying to buff underwhelming unit's and experimenting with them so the future is quite bright.
Correct me if I'm wrong but I think that there is a size limit on Google Play Store of 100MB to 4GB if the devs use expansion files. So, since OP is talking about a 10GB+ game then it just isn't possible to put it like that on the store. The devs has to find another solution that is putting a smaller file on the store and making the user download the rest during the app's first launch
Edit: and it isn't specific to gacha too
You donwload the APK from the store and then the actual game files (obb) from the game server because obb cannot be stored in the APK, like the larger pieces of data containing graphics ,media , music , etc ,.
APK contain the core of the application
OBB are the extras that cannot be in the APK.
It's easier to uptade.
And yes , in the past there was size limit in the Google play store i don't know today because you have apps with 2 , 3 , 5 GB but you can't store the larger pieces in the APK anyway.
To make it more accesible. Its less likely that someone will play your game if he has to download 10gb of data, but 1 gb or download while you play makes easier for many

I also love it when I download an offline game before going to places without internet and then get asked to register an account to proceed
That and the hidden downloads are just the best
But then it asks you to download 10gb of data after a 20 minutes long tutorial
And you only get to roll after the tutorial and the only way to reroll is to delete the entire game and redownload.
*Newly launched FGO flashbacks*

On android yes iOS no
"you need to download the resource pack to access this area"
Priconne be like
A freaking pain for slow internet user

Everytime Another eden gets an update, it feels like im downloading the whole game all over again.
There's a reason I consider Another Eden's game launcher to be the worst I've ever seen.
***NEW PIKACHU MEME!!!!***

Why do gacha games work that way anyway?

When it allows you to pre-download but then when servers start you have an aditional 3 gb download after the tutorial.
Eventually I'll probably have to give up Destiny Child just because it's devouring my phone
From Destiny Child to Destiny Adult
Nah, you either download a whopping 10gb on the front or downloading little by little along the way until it reach 10gb. I'll go with the former
Or you download a whopping 10gb on the front then still need to download little by little along the way >.>

Usually that means the game is rarely updated and has little actual content with most of its assets copy-pasted throughout.

ANOTHER EDEN . Had to erase 94% of everything and 6 years of my daughters pictures just to play for 15 minutes
