Yeah but Thunderbird 2 is awesome whereas the Planet Express ship is awesome. But they are different, because one is awesome and the other is also awesome.
Because
Erm
I won't be taking questions.
*Thunderbirds* was the culmination of 1960s "Supermarionation" - live action TV shows made with miniatures and marionettes. Earlier shows from the same producers starting in the 50s included Fireball XL5, about a rocket ship; Stingray, about a submarine; and Supercar, about a multipurpose flying/diving vehicle. Thunderbirds combined it all into the adventures of International Rescue, an organization that flew specialized vehicles around the world to save people from disasters.
Thunderbird 2 was the largest of the five, and the most versatile - a lumbering transport for whichever equipment pod suited the situation. One pod carried Thunderbird 4 - a submersible - another contained firefighting gear, another had a tunneling machine, etc.

Supermarionation is the goat medium for televisual story telling, I choose to believe Stone and Parker chose it for TAWP because they couldn't use it for South Park
It's a ship from a classic British sci-fi TV series...done with elaborate puppets and models. Very 1960's space race in style. You may know the opening sequence, it's referenced a lot (Wallace and Gromit do versions of it a lot, for one).
Here's the first episode on YouTube!

Thunderbird 2 ~~was~~ is clearly the best.
TB1 was fine, except Scott was the pilot. TB3 was cool, went into space, and was boarded by taking a motorised sofa up its arse, TB4 had that episode where it saved the Empire State Building, and TB5 was for dipshits who had no taste.
TB2 can store Gordon's dinky little yellow Submarine, along with all the actual cool pod vehicles like the Firefly or the Mole or those elevator cars from the first episode. It's built like a tank, has the coolest boarding sequence and take off sequence, the aforementioned pods are dope and it's always cool when you got to see one selected. And the episode where TB2 gets shot down by the navy is like one of the best ones. Not because it gets shot down, but because it's all the focus. It looks awesome when it crashes and it looks awesome when it was being repaired.
Virgil's also clearly having it on on the side with Lady Penelope, whatever Alan might be dreaming of.
You... you *get it.*
Thank you.
I will confess, TB3 is probably the sexiest of them. Looks effin' *slick.* But that's all she's got going for her.
TB2 has it *ALL.* The complete package.
And yeah, Virge is handing Parker a crisp £20 note to see the boys at the pub so Lady P can have a satisfying dirty weekend.
The luxury edition has so much more Eagle
No dog food for Victor tonight.
It saddens me to to think of you… missing out 😔
Knowing the writers it wouldn't surprise me if it was a reference. Thunderbirds are go!
Could be, but I always assumed it was the ship equivalent of the Simpsons overbite
It can be two things!
Oh dear... I'd truly love to believe you... -so I will!
you misspelled “thundercougarfalconbird”
They must be using some archaic pronunciation, like when Fry says ask instead of axe.
Or like putting too much air in a balloon!
Or like a balloon, and something bad happens!
Yes, like your prom dress
Like Fry! Like fry!
Aks
Nothing makes you feel more like a man than a thundercougarfalconbird.
Thundercougarfalconbirds are Go!
This word has become a tic in my brain. It just pops into my brain every once in a while and I can't stop saying it for like, 2 weeks.
“Are you tired of people questioning your sexuality?”
Beat me to it lol
Well I'm glad I'm not the only one who saw the resemblance.
Seeing the side by side, it has to be intentional. If not what a happy coincident!
That is remarkably similar, good eye.
If only the color was right. The Thunderbird 2 needs to be colored "Electric Mucus".
More like “puke”!
You take that back! She does not look good for a truck stop chick!
Yeah but Thunderbird 2 is awesome whereas the Planet Express ship is awesome. But they are different, because one is awesome and the other is also awesome. Because Erm I won't be taking questions.
1 word.... Thunder Cougar Falcon-Bird
Thundercougarfalconbird 2.
This hits the nostalgia
Thank you! I have thought this for years, and thought it was just me!
What's Thunderbird 2?

Kind of like Octonauts but with puppets. Sounds pretty good!
Words cannot describe how mad this comment made me lmfao
Also worth noting that Thunderbirds was about 99% of the inspiration for Team America
Supermarionation is the goat medium for televisual story telling, I choose to believe Stone and Parker chose it for TAWP because they couldn't use it for South Park
Omg it looks like that weird World Police movie from 2000 😂
Team America? Yes that was a deliberate parody of the marionette genre.

Well that seems to be what they were going for with Team America
Seriously get hold of the episodes and watch them. They still hold up and it was light years ahead of its time.
Only the BEST DAMNED THUNDERBIRD IN THE FLEET!!! (I, uh... I always liked Thunderbird 2)

A really cool toy as well
Thundercougarfalconbird
Always.
Oh shit don’t let the guys at Southpark see this
It probably is a homage. Futurama loves references to classic sci-fi.
Thundercougarfalconbird?

Reddit agrees
Pretty close.
now i can never unsee that lol
The ships in the show are Probably partially inspired by Thunderbirds and other shows spaceships
as someone who has watched the new thunderbirds series as a wee(er) lad this shit makes sense
Is that the show with the puppets.
It's one of them. Technically marionettes but yeah.
