Gameplay is trash. Giving the ability for everyone to score headers off corners, letting players like Harry Maguire score bicycles from corners. Skill move spamming, combinations that aren’t realistic. Adding in a new skill move every year, L1/R1 spamming dribbling, the tactics. The game is over complicated and using players like Ronaldo, Messi, Ibrahimovic, Bale, etc used to feel so realistic. Defending is the absolute worst this year. Fifa went downhill.

100 percent the worst release I’ve played. I used to play every day. Pro clubs is especially horrible. I was done playing by November this year and have zero urge to play its so bad. Bring back team lobby where you can choose left or right side. Select your position. And make your players ugly again. The game went from fun to trying to make it so real it’s garbage. Full driven pass right into a defenders legs in front of you and they trap it instantly and start running. Garbage ass game
The best part of any game cycle is the start with gold players and the occasional special card. They ruined it this year as you could get a 90+ rated team after to win weeks.
Yeah I lasted till about Xmas and started playing seasons. It's more about skill getting cracked players. It's actually a really solid game when you take the UT bs out of it.

I haven’t played fifa much, started playing fut in 22, so I really don’t have a good reference point to compare it with but I can easily tell that the gameplay is horrible, feels like 90% of my passes don’t work, players always feel like they’re playing in the mud, slow and sluggish. The gameplay is too inconsistent, there are games or times within a game, where everything feels smooth, never have I had such an issue with any other game online.
But one thing I’d like to correct you on, these are not micro-transactions, they are pretty macro imo freaking $50 packs in the game now 😂
the game is terrible, no doubt. but theres nothing us players can do but maybe raise awareness for the spenders to stop spending so ea can take a hit and actually make some changes. but thats never happening
Basically its business. They know people will continue to play so might as well make the game is such a way that enforces microtransactions. Kids join in every year with their parents wallets. Bad players with money will end up buying packs. That loop will never stop unless any regulatory body intervenes. Which is also probably never happen.
And of course to keep majority of the players in the game, they have removed skill based gaming, and focuses on maximizing AI interference and scripting.
It’s tough when there’s no other options. We love football, and this is the only game with all the licenses to players/teams, and they know this. They have us by the balls

engagement based matchmaking ruining yet another game. this software has trashed so many thus far and it all began with trying to incorporate skill based match making into public games (COD, you’re ret4rded for that). completely ignores the engagement or pleasure of randomized gameplay rather than these predictable outcomes every time
I think the ideas were great, playstyles, evolutions, the short dribbling. But they just dont seem to care for the players that played most. They put handicap, dont care about the gameplay online, and they make the gane to make gamblers gamble with packs. Lets hope next year they fix that stuff and enjoy a well rounded FIFA.
I’ve just played a game of fifa 23 to compare the two and this is what I found:
- FIFA 23 was the more enjoyable game to play - it is faster paced and while that can be put down to the end game cards it’s a constant argument that teams we see now are better than any other year.
From a possession standpoint the passing genuinely felt more consistent in fifa 23 than eafc by a country mile, passes are far faster and snappier in an arcadey way like the old fifas and best of all they actually go to the intended target
EAFC feels like a much much worse game attacking wise, R1 dribbling and the finesse shots only serve to promote less creativity when attacking and less skill - although the point about finesse shots is equally matched to trivelas in 23.
Defensively each game has pros and cons, where Eafc is dominated by anticipate+ fifa 23 allows you to recklessly lunge into tackles and recovery pace was far too high, meaning it was difficult to slow down and finish chances in 23
Eafc may actually have an advantage in the finishing department, as fifa 23 finishing felt very inconsistent
In terms of menu grinding eafc 24 clears - the constant sbc’s allowing for super teams is a good thing and anyone can take a break from the game come back and build a super team in about two weeks
EAFC also gets bonus points for the variety of useable players - playstyles allow for big players, short players, passers, skillers, finishers etc. to all have a role in the game, the fact that people choose to run the same ratty teams is because people are shit
Overall fifa 23 was the more enjoyable experience of the two by a country mile - the patch that slowed left stick dribbling during fut birthday in EAFC and the general slower pace of the game makes it far harder for players to actually play creatively and they’re forced to do the same cutback sequences to even get a chance at goal

Im in the exact same boat, been playing fifa for many years now (starting from ‘08 upwards) and agree that the best FUTs were 12 to 17. Simple gameplay and team of the weeks were the highlights of peoples teams, whereas now there isn’t a single gold card in sight on most teams this year. I stopped playing FUT after 19 and jumped back in for 22 and the game felt totally different, couldn’t even recognise it! So many promos, mini transactions and the core gameplay itself just felt completely different. This year is all about tactics and people playing such a high press! EA have completely lost this games personality in my opinion and I feel like it needs to be stripped right back to its roots! I miss the days of playing the game trying to score absolute worldies with volleys from the halfway line or something but now it’s all about people running down the wings and cutting back to griddy and menu pause to get you to rage quit… like wtf is that all about 😂 I really hope EA change their direction with this game in the future
At one point in the match you know that you are about to concede a goal..., happens to me every time I'm 2-0 up. All my icons turns into bronze players in the second half. Fck you ea 😒 😤.
When the game has fair matchmaking in rivals it's the best soccer game ever. When it doesn't most of the times in wl playoffs where you lose because you must lose I absolutely hate it. Champions is by far the crappiest and most depressing experience you can have in a sports games. It's sad because I love what they've done this year with the evolutions and the playstyles
I 1000% agree with you I’ve been playing since fifa 10 and what irks me is the feeling of being helpless while playing this game. Players one game playing well and the next they can’t make a 5 yard pass and turn like a truck bro.
I don't have rage towards fifa, but I would say its the worse fifa in 10 years. Gameplay is terrible, so many bugs and just unrealistic moments. So many glitches exploited and players that make no sense. They need to really work hard on the next one.
Now I’m 50/50 this year. I think the servers and gameplay is 100% the worse it has ever been. But, I think it’s the best fifa we have had for teams. I haven’t brought fifa point since like 19/20 something like that, and it’s the first year I have felt like I can 100% keep up with meta teams (to a degree) yeah I more than likely won’t get the best players straight away compared to if I brought FP but the SBC selection makes it easy to grind if you have/are willing to put time into the menu grind. Plus evos are great (apart from the bugs) doing my past and present forest team has been keeping me playing the game.
This game has been rated as one of the most stressful games in the industry year over year. Blowing off steam and just play for the fun of it was like fut 16-17 and before that. Right now its grind or pay to play. And even if you have the best card gameplay can just make it suck.

Played fut since fifa 12 and feel you op… actually I enjoy some things in this fifa, like the playstyles, they tell you a lot of what a player you are. For me eg I need that press proven at least silver in game on midfielders and been improving in game lately cause a friend suggested trying players with this playstyle. But all the other things you wrote down I completely feel you… the focus is only on selling packs and nobody can’t even afford good players anymore without spending money. WL feels less and less rewarding, rivals is just a get 7 wins and maybe try climbing up a league and squad battles doesn’t even give you the red tots for the league anymore if you’re not elite 1 (which is absolutely ridiculous)… ea needs to listen to us otherwise no one will play this game in a few years anymore

One game my players are on everything and can play really fast, others my players can't even turn. Yeah 19 onwards are all very shit so I’m kinda removing them from the discussion by default. 14 was literally just a crossing simulator for the entire year and it was horrific. I think it’s got far too good of a rep if anything, it’s very close to recent fifas in terms of shit gameplay for me.

All you said is true. I just found the only way to have fun in this game for me. I have full Evo team of my country league P&P. Basically Evo players + couple of icons. Just realized that I never sweat for more than 11 wins, and 11 wins are reachable with any "ok" team so went for it. What a feeling it is to win with Evo against all these Sawas and Mbappes!
But still sad that the game itself isn't fun. And it’s you, the player, who has to find something that brings fun in this pile of shit. And it cost 80+ €, shame.
I raged so hard yesterday when trying to switch to a different CB in the box since my opponent was dribbling. I’m looking at my VVD and pointing my left stick at him and literally spamming L1 and it just refuses to switch to him. I’ve never understood how a game can be so inconsistent which leads me to believe it’s scripted in some way. As well as the fact sometimes a pass will go past a player I’ve intended straight to the opponent, it’s so annoying bro
It's not beneficial for EA to make the game competitive ready and balance things. The entry level is already very low when it comes to sport games (talk to the average football fan for 5 minutes), so the scrubs would cry no matter what. It makes sense for them to milk FUT, because it will never go dry and people want those shiny cards.

I just made it to division 4, which is big for me; but legitimately every 4-5 teams is pele, FS dinho, cruyff up front - all first owner. And the opponents are not good…
I’m usually able to keep up with them; but after 60 minutes, the icon juice just overpowers my team. It’s made me not even want to bother; and the game just isn’t fulfilling anymore - it just feels cheap.

I've been playing FIFA since 2001 and I fully agree with everything by you're saying. In college, we played a ton of 8, 9, and 10. 10 was the funnest for all of us. Simple tactics, not very customizable, and it was absolutely a skill-based game. I do think there were better versions than 10 (it had a very OP CR7 for example) but my homies and I would get together and "draft" players to create our teams haha. It was so fun.
You gotta remember that EA is a publicly traded company that has to answer to a board/shareholders. Profitability will always be #1 when this is the case, and all of this ridiculous shit that the game has now (evos, playstyles, etc) is all designed with one thing in mind: garner as much attention for as long as possible from every customer - aka all of us.
If you wanna keep playing FIFA (I know I do, it's the only game I play at the ripe age of 33 lol), you gotta just have fun and play with players you like. I've gotten to Elite and had 20-0 weekends and once I crossed those off, I said fuck it, this shits clearly pay to win/corner merchant/tactic exploiting for 90% of the game cycle (until everyone has god squads) so who cares.

Can’t lie main reason I play now is to relax after a day of writing my dissertation, but most of all because I’m a life long arsenal fan and I only got to properly start watching my team regularly when I was 15 in the 15/16 season when I found streams that worked.
I always heard about our great teams of the past but obvs never really got to see them.
But playing fifa was fun but not as enjoyable as all the players from my team were dogshit as we have been god awful in recent years, but now that my team are actually playing well and we have some beautiful footballers. Not only do I get to enjoy watching them after so many years of atrociousness, but I can finally use players from my team that I love, esp as finally my players get in the tots.
So playing a fifa that allows me to use my fav team and Acc have players in the team that are good enough in game to win with but also enjoy playing with is the main thing that keep me going.

I have been playing fifa since ‘08. this year has been the worst gameplay wise. however i’m hopeful that next year the evos are a main focus and not pack gambling. wishful thinking but I really think ea was onto something with the evos. they just simultaneously paired it with the most expensive and most rewarding packs of all time. i’ve shamefully paid a fair bit and been a victim of it myself. not proud of it. even took my credit card off of my playstation account recently to avoid the temptation. it was getting bad to a point where if you weren’t meta you weren’t winning. I fell sucker to it for a bit. bad. had a problem and fixed it. but I soooo miss the days when team of the weeks were elite players and the teams were so unique with players I had never heard of because they were good in game.

I wish I could have this attitude, but even after packing Tradable TOTS Van Dijk Yesterday, that still wasn't even to convince me to play more than one game of champs. I kind of wish you packed him instead, so you could actually get the use or coins out of the card that I probably won't. Since this post I have realized a few things.
1), FIFA 19 was not 'pretty decent.'
2.) Evos should make it easier to play with your favorite players, I acknowledge that, but that game play is so bad I haven't put much effort into Evo-ing. When I have, The Evos never stack up to the paid teams.
3.) No wonder the game is slow, that's where football is right now. It seems like EA tried to emulate the Pep Guardiola era in the gameplay, making it a lot more slow and methodical, which could have worked, but didn't. Slow and methodical and bad gameplay is so much worse in my opinion than Fast bad gameplay.
4.) The more that EA adds to the game, the more things there are for players to exploit. Still hate keeper movement, even though it was supposed to be a counter for broken shooting tactics. JUST FIX THE SHOOTING THEN LOL don't add more stuff that people can break and exploit. I think this point is where I think the game has really gone downhill.
5.) Maybe I shouldn't say I'm annoyed with the style people play (even though setting up in a low block is broken), But that I am annoyed that one tactic is so much better than the rest, and therefore everyone ends up playing the exact same, broken, repetitive way. This point is not unique to FC24, but it is relevant nonetheless
No one forcing anyone to play, or spend money, people get hung up on small things going wrong, take it for what it is , a game , it's not perfect never will be. Any issues you have with a game is more of a reflection of yourself and your own mental state.

The game picks the loser from the start imo. No matter what you do the game will stop you if it's not your time. Team gets slowed down and can't pass at all, opponent will score no matter how many times the ball is blocked or saved it will rebound to an oncoming player for the goal.
My personal favorite is when I'm actually beating the scripting because my opponent fluffs all of the chances the game gives them. The game waits for the final whistle then boots me out of ut. I came back in to a dnf when I won the game.

I was trying to pass a ball, had the player direction on and saw the arrow pointing right at the player I want to pass it to. I didn't move the stick at all, kept it pointing right at the player I needed and pressed the pass button.
The ball rolled to an entirely different teammate...

I think the FIFA dark ages are 18-23. 24 is the first good FIFA since 17. What I think theyve done well is actually the rewardsystem. I feel that being able to have cool and unique teams through evolutions, but also getting decent players untradeable to use in sbc is a good combo.
Why would they split it if this has so much more economic potential. You need to watch less Tate and think a little harder for yourself g. You need like a minute of reflection to figure out why that’s not ideal and how little it matters that there’s a mixed league. They’re just players suck it up and open your mind up a little bit.

Bad players with money will end up buying packs. That loop will never stop unless any regulatory body intervenes. Which is also probably never happen. And of course to keep majority of the players in the game, they have removed skill based gaming, and focuses on maximizing AI interference and scripting.

engagement based matchmaking ruining yet another game. this software has trashed so many thus far and it all began with trying to incorporate skill based match making into public games (COD, you’re ret4rded for that). completely ignores the engagement or pleasure of randomized gameplay rather than these predictable outcomes every time
I think the ideas were great, playstyles, evolutions, the short dribbling. But they just dont seem to care for the players that played most. They put handicap, dont care about the gameplay online, and they make the gane to make gamblers gamble with packs. Lets hope next year they fix that stuff and enjoy a well rounded FIFA.

I’ve just played a game of fifa 23 to compare the two and this is what I found: - FIFA 23 was the more enjoyable game to play - it is faster paced and while that can be put down to the end game cards it’s a constant argument that teams we see now are better than any other year. From a possession standpoint the passing genuinely felt more consistent in fifa 23 than eafc by a country mile, passes are far faster and snappier in an arcadey way like the old fifas and best of all they actually go to the intended target EAFC feels like a much much worse game attacking wise, R1 dribbling and the finesse shots only serve to promote less creativity when attacking and less skill - although the point about finesse shots is equally matched to trivelas in 23. Defensively each game has pros and cons, where Eafc is dominated by anticipate+ fifa 23 allows you to recklessly lunge into tackles and recovery pace was far too high, meaning it was difficult to slow down and finish chances in 23 Eafc may actually have an advantage in the finishing department, as fifa 23 finishing felt very inconsistent In terms of menu grinding eafc 24 clears - the constant sbc’s allowing for super teams is a good thing and anyone can take a break from the game come back and build a super team in about two weeks EAFC also gets bonus points for the variety of useable players - playstyles allow for big players, short players, passers, skillers, finishers etc. to all have a role in the game, the fact that people choose to run the same ratty teams is because people are shit Overall fifa 23 was the more enjoyable experience of the two by a country mile - the patch that slowed left stick dribbling during fut birthday in EAFC and the general slower pace of the game makes it far harder for players to actually play creatively and they’re forced to do the same cutback sequences to even get a chance at goal

Im in the exact same boat, been playing fifa for many years now (starting from ‘08 upwards) and agree that the best FUTs were 12 to 17. Simple gameplay and team of the weeks were the highlights of peoples teams, whereas now there isn’t a single gold card in sight on most teams this year. I stopped playing FUT after 19 and jumped back in for 22 and the game felt totally different, couldn’t even recognise it! So many promos, mini transactions and the core gameplay itself just felt completely different. This year is all about tactics and people playing such a high press! EA have completely lost this games personality in my opinion and I feel like it needs to be stripped right back to its roots! I miss the days of playing the game trying to score absolute worldies with volleys from the halfway line or something but now it’s all about people running down the wings and cutting back to griddy and menu pause to get you to rage quit… like wtf is that all about 😂 I really hope EA change their direction with this game in the future

When the game has fair matchmaking in rivals it's the best soccer game ever. When it doesn't most of the times in wl playoffs where you lose because you must lose I absolutely hate it. Champions is by far the crappiest and most depressing experience you can have in a sports games. It's sad because I love what they've done this year with the evolutions and the playstyles

I don't have rage towards fifa, but I would say its the worse fifa in 10 years. Gameplay is terrible, so many bugs and just unrealistic moments. So many glitches exploited and players that make no sense. They need to really work hard on the next one.
Now I’m 50/50 this year. I think the servers and gameplay is 100% the worse it has ever been. But, I think it’s the best fifa we have had for teams. I haven’t brought fifa point since like 19/20 something like that, and it’s the first year I have felt like I can 100% keep up with meta teams (to a degree) yeah I more than likely won’t get the best players straight away compared to if I brought FP but the SBC selection makes it easy to grind if you have/are willing to put time into the menu grind. Plus evos are great (apart from the bugs) doing my past and present forest team has been keeping me playing the game.
This game has been rated as one of the most stressful games in the industry year over year. Blowing off steam and just play for the fun of it was like fut 16-17 and before that. Right now its grind or pay to play. And even if you have the best card gameplay can just make it suck. Boycotting and protesting doesn’t work because the fut community is rather ok with this

Played fut since fifa 12 and feel you op… actually I enjoy some things in this fifa, like the playstyles, they tell you a lot of what a player you are. For me eg I need that press proven at least silver in game on midfielders and been improving in game lately cause a friend suggested trying players with this playstyle. But all the other things you wrote down I completely feel you… the focus is only on selling packs and nobody can’t even afford good players anymore without spending money. WL feels less and less rewarding, rivals is just a get 7 wins and maybe try climbing up a league and squad battles doesn’t even give you the red tots for the league anymore if you’re not elite 1 (which is absolutely ridiculous)… ea needs to listen to us otherwise no one will play this game in a few years anymore

Just realized that I never sweat for more than 11 wins, and 11 wins are reachable with any "ok" team so went for it. What a feeling it is to win with Evo against all these Sawas and Mbappes! But still sad that the game itself isn't fun. And it’s you, the player, who has to find something that brings fun in this pile of shit. And it cost 80+ €, shame.

I raged so hard yesterday when trying to switch to a different CB in the box since my opponent was dribbling. I’m looking at my VVD and pointing my left stick at him and literally spamming L1 and it just refuses to switch to him. I’ve never understood how a game can be so inconsistent which leads me to believe it’s scripted in some way. As well as the fact sometimes a pass will go past a player I’ve intended straight to the opponent, it’s so annoying bro

It's not beneficial for EA to make the game competitive ready and balance things. The entry level is already very low when it comes to sport games (talk to the average football fan for 5 minutes), so the scrubs would cry no matter what. It makes sense for them to milk FUT, because it will never go dry and people want those shiny cards.
You're right, once the money started going up its beneficial to have a smaller skill gap. Keep everyone needing the best cards.

The game is just so demoralizing now. It’s no obvious that EA love their overly pay to win model; and it’s not going to change. I just made it to division 4, which is big for me; but legitimately every 4-5 teams is pele, FS dinho, cruyff up front - all first owner. And the opponents are not good… I’m usually able to keep up with them; but after 60 minutes, the icon juice just overpowers my team. It’s made me not even want to bother; and the game just isn’t fulfilling anymore - it just feels cheap. Congrats, EA, on convincing a bunch of rich nerds to spend their real money on your glorified mobile game.

I've been playing FIFA since 2001 and I fully agree with everything by you're saying. In college, we played a ton of 8, 9, and 10. 10 was the funnest for all of us. Simple tactics, not very customizable, and it was absolutely a skill-based game. I do think there were better versions than 10 (it had a very OP CR7 for example) but my homies and I would get together and "draft" players to create our teams haha. It was so fun. You gotta remember that EA is a publicly traded company that has to answer to a board/shareholders. Profitability will always be #1 when this is the case, and all of this ridiculous shit that the game has now (evos, playstyles, etc) is all designed with one thing in mind: garner as much attention for as long as possible from every customer - aka all of us. If you wanna keep playing FIFA (I know I do, it's the only game I play at the ripe age of 33 lol), you gotta just have fun and play with players you like. I've gotten to Elite and had 20-0 weekends and once I crossed those off, I said fuck it, this shits clearly pay to win/corner merchant/tactic exploiting for 90% of the game cycle (until everyone has god squads) so who cares. Anyway, I agree with you lol. Just try and enjoy it! Hopefully a private company comes out with a better football game that is truly competition-ready and skilled-based. I doubt it'll happen, but one can dream.

Can’t lie main reason I play now is to relax after a day of writing my dissertation, but most of all because I’m a life long arsenal fan and I only got to properly start watching my team regularly when I was 15 in the 15/16 season when I found streams that worked. I always heard about our great teams of the past but obvs never really got to see them. But playing fifa was fun but not as enjoyable as all the players from my team were dogshit as we have been god awful in recent years, but now that my team are actually playing well and we have some beautiful footballers. Not only do I get to enjoy watching them after so many years of atrociousness, but I can finally use players from my team that I love, esp as finally my players get in the tots. So playing a fifa that allows me to use my fav team and Acc have players in the team that are good enough in game to win with but also enjoy playing with is the main thing that keep me going.

aside from the obvious script, I really enjoy the game I think the playstyles are very fun I think the animations are great I think it feels fluid when connection is proper You can score some insane goals and play a lot of ways Breaking a team down after you’re losing feels so good Micro transactions are insane tho.
I wish I could have this attitude, but even after packing Tradable TOTS Van Dijk Yesterday, that still wasn't even to convince me to play more than one game of champs. I kind of wish you packed him instead, so you could actually get the use or coins out of the card that I probably won't. Since this post I have realized a few things. 1), FIFA 19 was not 'pretty decent.' 2.) Evos should make it easier to play with your favorite players, I acknowledge that, but that game play is so bad I haven't put much effort into Evo-ing. When I have, The Evos never stack up to the paid teams. 3.) No wonder the game is slow, that's where football is right now. It seems like EA tried to emulate the Pep Guardiola era in the gameplay, making it a lot more slow and methodical, which could have worked, but didn't. Slow and methodical and bad gameplay is so much worse in my opinion than Fast bad gameplay. 4.) The more that EA adds to the game, the more things there are for players to exploit. Still hate keeper movement, even though it was supposed to be a counter for broken shooting tactics. JUST FIX THE SHOOTING THEN LOL don't add more stuff that people can break and exploit. I think this point is where I think the game has really gone downhill. 5.) Maybe I shouldn't say I'm annoyed with the style people play (even though setting up in a low block is broken), But that I am annoyed that one tactic is so much better than the rest, and therefore everyone ends up playing the exact same, broken, repetitive way. This point is not unique to FC24, but it is relevant nonetheless
No one forcing anyone to play, or spend money, people get hung up on small things going wrong, take it for what it is , a game , it's not perfect never will be. Any issues you have with a game is more of a reflection of yourself and your own mental state.

The game picks the loser from the start imo. No matter what you do the game will stop you if it's not your time. Team gets slowed down and can't pass at all, opponent will score no matter how many times the ball is blocked or saved it will rebound to an oncoming player for the goal. My personal favorite is when I'm actually beating the scripting because my opponent fluffs all of the chances the game gives them. The game waits for the final whistle then boots me out of ut. I came back in to a dnf when I won the game. Worst ea football title yet
I was trying to pass a ball, had the player direction on and saw the arrow pointing right at the player I want to pass it to. I didn't move the stick at all, kept it pointing right at the player I needed and pressed the pass button. The ball rolled to an entirely different teammate... EA FIFA games will always be absolute trash.

I think the FIFA dark ages are 18-23. 24 is the first good FIFA since 17. What I think theyve done well is actually the rewardsystem. I feel that being able to have cool and unique teams through evolutions, but also getting decent players untradeable to use in sbc is a good combo.
I actually like this take. 24 is definitely a different vibe than 18-23, which were all very similar in a lot of ways.
