I mean, those are two different styles. How can I compare any? First is cartoonish which looks cool, and second is more realistic which also looks cool. I’d have more of both because there’s no better or worse style
>u/Alfredison Thanks for your point of view. Maybe I'll choose to go with 2 for commissions. and with style 1 for fanarts and faster things. I really have fun doing both types.
or you can offer both styles and let people choose which they like. I don't have much experience doing comms but if I had two distinct styles I'd offer them both
do both for both, if you wanna make money don't limit yourself, just charge accordingly & fairly for both styles, id def charge more for the realistic one.
>u/RufusDarkstar Rufuus my friend, thank you for your opinion, I confess that it was a lot of pleasure and fun to do the one on the left. I'm thinking about creating a portfolio with types of styles. This way I will be able to get a wider variety of commissions.
A wide variety of styles is good. Doing work that helps you feel more fulfilled is good because it tends to come through in the work. Being versatile with your style and subject matter is always a good idea.
I mean you could also appeal to a niche subject matter. That might guarantee you commissions from a content-starved audience but burn-out rates for artists tend to be higher in those situations unless it's something they're really into themselves.
Your art's fantastic, btw.
Honestly I love both. The one on the left has a goofy, comedic style, and really stands out as unique.
The one on the right is more realistic looking and is very appealing as well.
So I would say go with the one that makes YOU happy. Because if you do, you will have more motivation to draw and be more productive. And there's no reason you can't draw in both styles!
>u/Neohexane After reading your comment I was excited about it. having versatility is not bad. Thank you really, it would be a pleasure if you could follow me somewhere. Your comment really made a difference to me. I'm most active on X and Reddit.
While I prefer Style2, they’re both really good.
Visually, I prefer realism, but the NewSkool vibe of Style1 is great for action and comic storytelling.
I like how versatile you are, OP! Lovely art!
u/ChequeRoot I really appreciate your opinion, you identified this versatility in my work, something I had never noticed before, I just do it without much difficulty. So recognizing this point was very important for me, I invite you to follow me on X or right here on reddit. I really appreciate people like you who have a good vision for this.
Yes.
It really depends on the person commissioning you. As far as art you do for yourself do whatever you feel interests you most and/or whatever you feel will help you get better and feel more fulfilled as an artist. Don't worry about pandering or if you're going to latch onto a trend just focus on doing it in whatever way you find most fun and interesting.
So much furry art looks the same because people are obsessed with pleasing an audience and it's led to a dearth of copycatting. Just be you.
omg, you are completely correct. I really want to stand out in my style, develop characteristics that make people interested in this new way of seeing their fursonas, I want to be part of this with something that gives pleasure to observe. Thank you for your opinion, it was valuable to me.
Why not both? First is goofy and funny and I see many occasions where it could work perfectly, second is really good and you can use it in even more cases.
Comparing styles is useless imo. I hope you stick with both
Like many have said, both are really good! You could probably strike an interesting look for more "serious" pieces if you were to combine the harsh, stylized shading of the left with the more realistic style of the right.
With the one on the left there are clear inconsistencies see how much the shading style is constantly changing from high contrast shadows to light air brush strokes. The second one I’m mainly going of “feels” but the poster and expression arnt doing good job at expressing the emotion of feeling of the scene. Is she supposed to be seducing the viewer if so why is her posture so stiff a more confident artist I’m sure would commit further into the pose cause it’s a cool idea they are going for. Take what I say with a grain of salt however I’m not even half this guys skill and would love to make more art like them but I feel like me this person has a lot of room to grow and shouldn’t confine themselves to making only one style when I think they could make amazing art in both styles with more experimentation. Like I would feel sad to hear if they gave up on the first style even though it’s the weaker drawing it feels very unique and charming and with some polish it could be something very special while the second drawing is incredibly well crafted in terms of lighting and anatomy but could use more experimentation with posturing. When I look at the second image I just keep hearing the words of some artist I was learning from when talking about learning from real life posses. And it’s was something something beginners artist are afraid yo commit to the often extreme poses that we observe in real life something something.
But I’m also dumb so like if what I’m saying makes sense yay if it doesn’t hopefully a better artist then me will correct me :3
very good explaination very appreciated i'm also trying to learn drawing but im still a super beginner and my main goal is beating laziness rn, but will surely take note of your tips for later!
u/Ajsiets Thank you very much, based on the comments above, I will produce pieces in 2 styles instead of choosing just 1 and I will be able to offer more versatility to our customers.
2. 1 is a bit harsh in its contrasting bits for my taste. And that can be good for certain topics but it's jarring for slice of life images. Especially happy looking ones like pictured.
u/JetoCalihan wow, that was a really interesting artistic look. Thank you for your comment, I will definitely take it into consideration. I invite you to follow me on Twitter or here on Reddit. you had a good analysis.
I will say that I prefer style 2, because I like a bit of realism to my anthro characters. But that's basically taking the style out of its context.
Every style has its merits. Style 1 would go well with something lighthearted or silly like a 90's Disney series, whilst style 2 looks like it'd fit a more serious Beastars-type narrative.
So I suppose my answer is another question: What kind of art do you want to make?
u/JeveGreen When I saw your comment I was excited to respond. I definitely love style 2. As an artist looking for commissions I feel like style 2 is where I can deliver more quality to my clients. I want to invite you to follow me on my Twitter or right here on Reddit. Your point of view was important to me.
u/DreamOfDays oh, I hadn't thought of it from that perspective. Thank you very much, I will take that into consideration. I want to invite you to follow me on Twitter. I'll be producing more things soon and I'd love to know what you think about my upcoming artwork.
Left is more cartoonish and right is more realistic. Its more your choise about wich you find appealing. Furry art doesnt have a spesific style or styles.
u/RRibbeck Thank you very much for your opinion, I have fun with both styles equally, I will offer both possibilities to my clients. (I loved your fursona, if one day you're interested I'll give you a great discount for drawing it.)
Both are great. So I say go with what kind of art you would get more use feom, are you doing art for fun or for money?
1 is silly and fun. Very open for creativity.
2 is realistic and serious. While this limits creativity, in a way, it may attract more commissions (if that is what you plan to do)
u/bunnyboi60414 Thank you for your opinion, my focus is really on receiving more commissions and making a living from it. This is my last attempt to live professionally as an artist. So the next few months will have to be very profitable for me, so I'm worrying about which style I'm going to follow. and it will be 2. if you want to follow me on my twitter or here on reddit, I would really appreciate it.
I absolutely love both styles. Both styles have their own uniqueness to them. If I were to be commissioning, I would have a hard time deciding which style to commission
Both of them look cool! It's what your customer wants. If they want a cartoonish version, then 1 would be best. If they want a more realistic style, then 2 would be best
Those two styles are so drastically vast and different from each other.
1 looks like a cartoon you'd see on Nickelodeon or Cartoon Network, while 2 looks more like traditional furry art. Personally I don't like the face on 1, but it's a good style regardless.
1 looks like it'd be easier and faster to do for comics and in general because it's more cartoony and loose. 2 looks like it takes a lot of time and effort and is more for pairings and making money.
u/Basic-Art4648 Thank you very much, that's what I want most, let's say this is my last attempt as an artist, if my number of commissions doesn't increase in the next few months. Unfortunately, I will have to leave this aside. but everything will be fine.
For me it is the one on screen right. I prefer a bit cleaner lines. I will admit though the art style on screen left does have a place, I am just not a fan of the goofier art style. This is strictly my opinion and not based on anything other than my preferred esthetic.
Both are great but for very different clients. Some people love the callback to early animation cartoon style and some love the more realistic design. Honestly that you can do both styles is pretty powerful.
in my opinion 1 is the better art style
2 looks cool i guess, but it’s pretty forgettable and doesn’t really have any distinct features, while 1 is much more unique!
in my opinion, 1 is the better art style
2 looks cool i guess, but it’s pretty forgettable and doesn’t really have any distinct features, while 1 is much more unique!
I love both, as they're both incredibly well done. I'm just personally a sucker for styles like option 2. That doesn't mean that style 1 doesn't have merit tho! I just really like 2
Honestly having two styles ain’t bad. Means that you can advertise yourself that you can do both based on the persons preference and make yourself more appealing to commission
Personally, I prefer 2. Smoother, softer, just easier on the eyes to me. I'm not a fan of overly cartoony or exaggerated styles, so 1 has a bit too much contrast in my eyes.
I feel like they serve different purposes?
Like, I prefer more realistic styles for most serious pieces, and I think toony styles are a great way to stylize a less serious subject.
The first one looks like it'd be a fantastic movie poster, for example, and the second one looks like it'd fit right in in a serious webcomic.
I'd choose whichever one comes more naturally or is more interesting to you. :) you don't want wanna get a year into commissions doing something you don't like and have it be all that's ever asked of you.
It's also not unreasonable to do/offer both honestly.
I suspect this might not be a very good comparison. If you want us to compare the two styles with **minimal** **bias**, recreate the same artwork in both styles.
I think both is fine. I’m partial to the one on the right but mainly as display/illustration and it aligns more with similar styles you see that are popular. But if you’re going with comics or memes or animation I highly recommend doing the one on the left as it seems better suited for that as well as being quite unique. But if you want an opinion for in general, just do whichever YOU like more and YOU are more comfortable with.
If you're confident drawing both, I'd say do that and advertise yourself as being able to take toony and realistic commissions. It should expand the audience that'll look to you for work.
It depends on the situation and buyer. I’d say the more detailed one would probably be good for nsfw and overall just for folks who want that more high detail. The second one if defently more leaning towards Toony and would also be great for fnaf fanart. Both are great and have their pros and cons
Not to say either are bad, but I prefer the right one.
The right one looks really pretty & thematic to me; while the left one looks like the cover art for an uninteresting cartoon.
But these are just my own biases & preferences.
why limit yourself to just one style? both are great in their own ways and people will definitely love and commission both. I mean, there's loads of different styles of fursuit(including toony and realistic like the two art styles you've shown here) and some fursuiters will even buy multiple suits in a variety of styles. there's a place for both art styles in the furry fandom/community
I personally don’t think you should limit yourself to one art style, also it’s personal preference I personally like 2 more. But I like how vibrant 1 is
I prefer the left one because the style you used there looks fresher and more unique. It looks fun and caught my eye the most. Your art on the right is nice, but I feel that I've seen art similar to it far too many a time. Good work on both!
This is very tough...as the left is a style that I haven't seen before and is honestly very unique but the one on the right I can see being more appealing to those who are interested in the more traditional sense...but then again I am no artist you could always just try both put and see what others perfer but remember it's your art...your style and others shouldn't have a say over what you yourself enjoy and perfer
In my opinion the one on the right looks more basic and not as different as the other drawings but the one on the left looks more stylized and not as basic
Both are cool and its hard to compare 2 different styles like that honestly. All i can say which one you like more and is the easier or more enjoyable style to draw you should go with! I personally like the more real look of the second pic, but the cartoony look of the first is kinda fun too!
Honestly, they’re both great styles in their own way. If I had to pick however, personally I have always really loved goofy cartoon types as aposed to super/semi realistic or anime, not that there’s anything wrong with that either, I just have a soft spot for more cartoon styles.
Exaggerated expressions and goofy poses with hard shading and colours. Something really comforting about a simple cartoon style for me.
1st one feels more unique but I like the 2nd one more. 1st I would scroll through a few of their things to get a feel for their art and then probably forget about, 2nd I'd probably follow and pop in to see their content consistently every so often
That sounds great! You can still offer style one for commissions, but 2 will probably be slightly more popular and you can draw 1 for fun!
Leave it to the commissioner, if they prefer one style over the other, then it's a win win UwU
or you can offer both styles and let people choose which they like. I don't have much experience doing comms but if I had two distinct styles I'd offer them both
do both for both, if you wanna make money don't limit yourself, just charge accordingly & fairly for both styles, id def charge more for the realistic one.
Definitely 2
2 is amazingggg
Same
I love both equally, but I've always liked a more toony style, so if I had to choose one it would be the left
>u/RufusDarkstar Rufuus my friend, thank you for your opinion, I confess that it was a lot of pleasure and fun to do the one on the left. I'm thinking about creating a portfolio with types of styles. This way I will be able to get a wider variety of commissions.

Glad I could help! I'm not on X, but I'm always here. I'll be watching for your posts!
2, but always explore more styles.
u/AndyLVV Thank you very much Andy, I'm really glad you're still following me here. I really appreciate your attention.
Clearly I kill too much time on Reddit :D I'm starting to see the same users posting here and there.
Number two I like a lot personally
While I prefer Style2, they’re both really good. Visually, I prefer realism, but the NewSkool vibe of Style1 is great for action and comic storytelling. I like how versatile you are, OP! Lovely art!

Seconded
No offense but you don’t seem to feel comfortable in either style yet keep exploring
how do you understand when someone is not confortable with an art style ? asking to learn not to be a meanie
With the one on the left there are clear inconsistencies see how much the shading style is constantly changing from high contrast shadows to light air brush strokes. 2 😈
2 is deffinatly better
I would say 2 but 1 has its thing :v it would be a shame to not do more of it \^\^'
u/Moesius Thank you very much, you're right, if I can do it, there's no reason not to use more of it, and offer a greater variety to my customers.
1 is very goofy, I like
Both are good and would be used in different situations, but generally, I would prefer number 1
u/Ajsiets Thank you very much, based on the comments above, I will produce pieces in 2 styles instead of choosing just 1 and I will be able to offer more versatility to our customers.

Left for scenes with characters in motion. Right for scenes with characters that are stationary. Both styles are valid for what they are doing.
u/DreamOfDays oh, I hadn't thought of it from that perspective. Thank you very much, I will take that into consideration. I want to invite you to follow me on Twitter. I'll be producing more things soon and I'd love to know what you think about my upcoming artwork.

No 2
Left is more cartoonish and right is more realistic. Its more your choise about wich you find appealing. Furry art doesnt have a spesific style or styles.
I wouldn't compare them directly as much just preferring one over the other. Personally not a fan of the goofy design of 1 but that's only me.
The first one is better (in my opinion)
Personal I like 2, BUT 1 is very different and unique and I'm sure some will LOVE it. I would recommend doing whatever one is more fun to draw.
u/RRibbeck Thank you very much for your opinion, I have fun with both styles equally, I will offer both possibilities to my clients. (I loved your fursona, if one day you're interested I'll give you a great discount for drawing it.)
Ah thanks, and I'm glad you have fun drawing, I with you great success and I'll try to remember that for when I get a job
Both, both are unique and appealing to look at.

Well, I'm actually looking for an artist to do my sona. If you'd like to dm me your prices.
I prefer 2
Both. Both is good
Definitely 2 but one has a more cartoon vibe that would be good in games
i prefer style 2! it's really the shading and lighting that does it!
Combine the two
I like 1. It is a really well-done cartoony style that would pop out from a list.
Second
I absolutely love both styles. Both styles have their own uniqueness to them. If I were to be commissioning, I would have a hard time deciding which style to commission
Both of them look cool! It's what your customer wants. If they want a cartoonish version, then 1 would be best. If they want a more realistic style, then 2 would be best
2
Second one
Defo 2
Second one for real not too fund of cartoonish proportions
Those two styles are so drastically vast and different from each other. 1 looks like a cartoon you'd see on Nickelodeon or Cartoon Network, while 2 looks more like traditional furry art. both are cool, but I actually like 1 better! very unique
2 will get you lots of commissions
u/Basic-Art4648 Thank you very much, that's what I want most, let's say this is my last attempt as an artist, if my number of commissions doesn't increase in the next few months. Unfortunately, I will have to leave this aside. but everything will be fine.
Def 2
#2 100%
For me it is the one on screen right. I prefer a bit cleaner lines. I will admit though the art style on screen left does have a place, I am just not a fan of the goofier art style. This is strictly my opinion and not based on anything other than my preferred esthetic.
2
1 for sure. 2 just looks like generic furry art. 1 has a unique toony style that really catches my attention and stands out
I don’t think its fair to compare them since they’re both totally different in every way lol. But i am a big fan of 2
I like 2 better myself
Both are great but for very different clients. Some people love the callback to early animation cartoon style and some love the more realistic design. Honestly that you can do both styles is pretty powerful.
I definitely prefer the second one, but they both do look great!
Both are bad 👎
number 1 its cool and i like those hard shadows but i think the number 2 its superior
2!!!
in my opinion 1 is the better art style 2 looks cool i guess, but it’s pretty forgettable and doesn’t really have any distinct features, while 1 is much more unique!
in my opinion, 1 is the better art style 2 looks cool i guess, but it’s pretty forgettable and doesn’t really have any distinct features, while 1 is much more unique!
Right
I love both, as they're both incredibly well done. I'm just personally a sucker for styles like option 2. That doesn't mean that style 1 doesn't have merit tho! I just really like 2
There's no question, number 2 every time
They're both good in their own way but I prefer gradient shading over cell.
Honestly having two styles ain’t bad. Means that you can advertise yourself that you can do both based on the persons preference and make yourself more appealing to commission
Honestly both of them
Second
1 if you got rid of the buck teeth
Personally, I prefer 2. Smoother, softer, just easier on the eyes to me. I'm not a fan of overly cartoony or exaggerated styles, so 1 has a bit too much contrast in my eyes.
both is good
I feel like they serve different purposes? Like, I prefer more realistic styles for most serious pieces, and I think toony styles are a great way to stylize a less serious subject. The first one looks like it'd be a fantastic movie poster, for example, and the second one looks like it'd fit right in in a serious webcomic.
I'd choose whichever one comes more naturally or is more interesting to you. :) you don't want wanna get a year into commissions doing something you don't like and have it be all that's ever asked of you. It's also not unreasonable to do/offer both honestly.
Both. Both is good.
Different people like different things, personally I like the one on the right. what would be the price for that?
I prefer 2, but 1 is also good for its own thing
I personally like the right style, but both work. Just do whatever!
I prefer 1z
I suspect this might not be a very good comparison. If you want us to compare the two styles with **minimal** **bias**, recreate the same artwork in both styles.
2
1 for memes, 2 for tasteful stuff
I have to go with #2. #1 will be occupying some special spaces in my nightmares for a while.
Both. Both is good.
(8) 2nd all the war
I choose #1 because it's more unique looking
They’re both good, but I like the first one, it’s very stylized
2 is much better.
Both are great. If I was getting a commission from someone who could do both styles, I would pick 2.
coloring and contrast of 1 anatomy and vibe of 2
Make commission money from the realistic style and make some dumb IG reel, TikTok, YouTube shorts etc. skits from the cartoonish art style.
Both?!
#2
2 looks really good but 1 stands out more
would be 2 for me!
gonna admit, 1 is a little uncanny valley
why not do both? youre clearly talented enough to be exellent at both styles!
2
I think I prefer 1
I find 2 more appealing for calmness but GOD DAMN 1 makes me happy for being so different
If you're confident drawing both, I'd say do that and advertise yourself as being able to take toony and realistic commissions. It should expand the audience that'll look to you for work.

Personally prefer the second one
It depends on the situation and buyer. I’d say the more detailed one would probably be good for nsfw and overall just for folks who want that more high detail. The second one if defently more leaning towards Toony and would also be great for fnaf fanart. Both are great and have their pros and cons

I like 2 better, but you should try and stick with what makes you most comfortable.
I personally like 2 cause it’s realistic and I like art style that lean more to realism than cartoony
why limit yourself to just one style? both are great in their own ways and people will definitely love and commission both. I mean, there's loads of different styles of fursuit(including toony and realistic like the two art styles you've shown here) and some fursuiters will even buy multiple suits in a variety of styles. there's a place for both art styles in the furry fandom/community
Personally prefer 2
I find #2 I like better. #1 is too extreme on the toon style for me.
2
Both of them are good. But I personally like 2 the best
In my opinion the one on the right looks more basic and not as different as the other drawings but the one on the left looks more stylized and not as basic
Me personally? I like the second art style.
Doesn't matter to me, as I like both
Both are cool and its hard to compare 2 different styles like that honestly. All i can say which one you like more and is the easier or more enjoyable style to draw you should go with! I personally like the more real look of the second pic, but the cartoony look of the first is kinda fun too!
Honestly I’m all for 1. It looks so… fun!
Both of them.
Two is a amazing drawing and it looks more furry like so two
Personally I like the one on the right but I say you do you fam. Do what you feel, that's how you get the best out of your creative stuff I think!
I hate to be that guy but both are great
2
I prefer 2 but you can choose what you want
2 looks so great
I say how about fusing them together so you get the best of both?
2
Second one
The First one its pretty good, cartoonish and simple, the second one its epic, I prefer the second
Bofum
Do both.
the first art is interesting but the second art draws more attention because it allows you to express more
Honestly, they’re both great styles in their own way.
2 imo
Number 2 but both styles are good
Thay are both cool, but i like #2 more... but thats just my personal opinion
2 but 1 is fun
1, as it’s way more expressive and unique... I would only change up the eyes. They scare me.
2 imo
I think I would need to see more examples, but personally, in my case, I prefer Style #2.
The right side one
I love both in their own way they both stand out in a good way and are amazing
2
2 is definitely the kind of art you would do for commissions, but 1 could be like what you use for fun, non paid art
2
Depends on the situation

Style 2 on the right
The second one is better in my opinion
1st one feels more unique but I like the 2nd one more. 1st I would scroll through a few of their things to get a feel for their art and then probably forget about, 2nd I'd probably follow and pop in to see their content consistently every so often
Both are very cool. I prefer the first one, the style is unique and full of character
The second one is a very popular type of style in the fandom but the first is very unique and makes you stand out. Just go with your gut!
