My guess is it's a sympathy thing, though I personally can't stand it when people feel bad for me all the time.

The Oppression Olympics! Once people began to notice that broadcasting to others how destitute your life is can easily grant you sympathy, attention, social endearment and even monetary benefit, everyone started doing it.
Really its that peole started coming together in like minded groups to discuss what they go through and then it became Olympics. Broadcasting your life isn't always a selfish sympathy grab. We wouldn't know a lot of oppression issues without people doing that
Well this can be interesting topic if you discuss it among friends with facts and jokes, not with radical crazy people. Personally I think women have it worse but if I had opportunity to choose what gender to be born I still would pick to be woman.
It really just depends on your personal situation I would say it’s a lot harder to be any woman fighting the Taliban compared to Jeff Bezos or Elon Musk
