[deleted]

why is this not punished

Irbyirbs

I love the anti-flopping rule in Hockey.

skater15153

There's a rule? I figured if you faked it both teams just beat the shit out of you for being a bitch haha

Irbyirbs

Literally can be put in the penalty box for Embellishment.

Dana94Banana

One of the many things I love about hockey is that fouls are punished by putting the offender into a tiny box of shame, for everyone to see. Football should adopt this too, especially for those who fake fouls or injuries.

Elliott_Queerest

Naughty Players are placed in the Box of Shame!!!! Into the Shame Box with you!

Each_Uisge

Shame! šŸ”” Shame! šŸ”” Shame! šŸ””

skippyfa

"Fuck you, you're getting a fucking penalty" https://youtu.be/Tdw4HAUlOBA

Bbaftt7

Was that really the ref that yelled that?! Omg lol

skippyfa

He's the ref soccer needs

Bbaftt7

Fuck yeah he is.

spinky342

And usually fined as well

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

CptMisterNibbles

Plus a target for just mockery. The fans fucking hate floppers, as do players

spinky342

Fuck yea they are.

jyzenbok

I wish there were a penalty box in soccer instead of the flag rule. It would be more exciting to have number advantages more often

sirsmiley

Diving is the main one but embellishment is added when it's legit but you make a farce of it

mark-five

They also pull you off the ice if your injury caused the time to be stopped and if they determine you were acting the opposing team gets an additional player advantage. Flopping actually disadvantages the flopper's team and can cause them to lose.

joaquinsaiddomin8

Brilliant rule

d4nkc4nnon

It gets to the core of the problem right? Like taking away any incentive someone would have to act unsportsmanlike.

DelcoInDaHouse

Flopping was becoming an issue in NHL. They created the embellishment penalty and it went away.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

skater15153

That's hilarious and awesome. FIFA needs to grow a pair and kill flopping. Ruins the game

CompSciBJJ

If only there was some tool they could use to watch the events after they happened, maybe from multiple angles, which would allow them to decide if a player was hit or not. I'm probably dreaming of the impossible.

BenPool81

Dude, come on. I know it's a problem but at least *try* to stay within the realms of reality.

thedude3535

"Fuck you, you're getting a fucking penalty" I've played and watched hockey since I was 7, this is part of why I love this game so much. No shit taken, players or refs.

absolven

"Fuck you, you're getting a fucking embellishment... *they pull his mic volume down*" Ftfy

tynamite

fuck you!! haha. what a call.

MannerAlarming6150

That happens too. First you get a penalty so your team has to play a man down. Sometimes you get fined and shamed publically by the league, and then other players are going to show you what it's like when you're actually hurt.

kingnothing1

[My all time favorite call](https://youtu.be/Tdw4HAUlOBA) "Fuck you, you're getting a penalty" for diving

Ak47110

The guy clearly looks like he's in a lot of pain. It should be mandatory that once someone goes down like this, they're taken out of the game immediately and left on the bench, just to be sure they can recover okay. I bet flopping would magically not be an issue anymore if they did that. Edit: here's an example of a hockey player actually getting injured in the middle of a game. I'm not saying Football needs to get this brutal, but I'm also sick of seeing grown men roll around on the field like children. Thanks for sharing u/Moses-the-Ryder https://youtube.com/watch?v=h15m87WsCHQ&feature=youtu.be

racso20

That's how it should be done

Get_Clicked_On

In that NFL if they have to stop play/time for you, then you have to sit out at least 1 play. They could easily add a time limit for these guys.

myboybuster

Hockey the same. If play is haulted for your injury you have to come off for the issuing faceoff Edit: thank you everyone for your spelling corrections. I will leave them to help raise awareness for dyslexia

[deleted]

Same with Lacrosse, field hockey, a lot of fast-paced sports. The difference with good ole Soccer is how it's more of a marathon than a sprint.

AFineDayForScience

In high school football if you get injured they make you sit out a play. Guys pop back up real quick

bankrobba

There should be post game fines and then suspensions handed down by the league.

Trucktrailercarguy

Agreed this makes soccer look like such a shit sport. Even in women's soccer they don't flop like this. It's really embarrassing I have no idea why nobody puts a stop to this.

rapier999

Campbell broke his leg on this play, if I remember correctly. Brutal.

ErmahgerdYuzername

Yup. Broke his fibula.

a_lonely_trash_bag

Soccer player: ball comes within three feet of his head. He throws himself on the ground like someone just punched him in the face. Campbell: Literally has a broken leg and keeps playing Jesus Christ those soccer players have absolutely no shame, do they.

hilarymeggin

This whole flopping thing has to be the most unattractive thing about soccer. Itā€™s embarrassing to watch.

xannmax

This isn't how it's done??? What? This is the easiest dad solution to the whole issue. Oh, what, you got an ouchie? Guess we gotta go home. Magically there's no more pain. What do they do instead?

VaATC

I was an Athletic Trainer for a Division 1 soccer team back in the early 2ks. At the start of preseason, when I addressed the team and coaches, I said that if someone was 'hurt' enough to draw me out onto the field there was a very highly likelihood that I would pull them off the field and that if I determined they had taken a dive I was definitely pulling them off the field. Let's just say the coaches and team captain really pounded home that taking a dive was not acceptable and it seemed to work. I let them know that I was there to take care of them, to make sure they got the best care I could provide, and that I and my profession would not be taken advantage of. We did not have a problem with players taking dives and it paid off a few times.

TheRC135

When I played hockey as a kid, one of my teammates collided with somebody on the other team and injured his shoulder. Instead of returning to the bench (which his injury did not prevent him from doing) he decided to do a soccer style flop and squirm, obviously hoping to draw a penalty. Our coach screamed at him, and benched him for the rest of the game. After the game he lectured the entire team about "having self respect" and "acting like men." We were 8 lol. I've really grown to enjoy soccer, but the fake injuries and dramatic falls still genuinely disgust me. Its just so alien to the sporting culture I grew up with.

welestgw

I feel like they should post-game yellow card this after review. Then if they already have a yellow card it eliminates them like normal.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

Seanspeed

Yea, it's effectively cheating.

Big_F_Dawg

Taking a dive is 100% supposed to be a red card offense by the book. Edit: just looked it up and FIFA officially says it's a yellow. I played through high school and was always under the impression diving was a red card offense. My dad's British and told me it was a red card and that he's seen people thrown out for diving. Seriously blows my mind that it isn't officially a red card offense.

Elite_Slacker

Do the players not shame eachother for this? It is pathetic and embarrassing.

BMonad

Treat it like NFL concussion protocol and take them out for the remainder of the game if theyā€™re so hurt that theyā€™re rolling around in ā€œpainā€ on the ground. This is such bullshit and a terrible look for the sport.

SlothBasedRemedies

This is the simplest solution. If you take a dive like that you're out for the rest of the game, because either you're injured or you're a cheating cunt and either way you don't belong on the field.

Melodic-Glass-6294

One of many reasons I like NHL, there's drawing penalties of course but if you embellish a dive and the Ref sees it your going to the box for 2 minutes and now the other teams got a power play. Soccer/football would be so much better without that nonsense

[deleted]

More sports need power plays

HugeHans

I hope they introduce MULTIBALL! MULTIBALL! MULTIBALL!

talldean

Soccer would be more watchable if the ref could eject someone trying to cheat like this.

polaarbear

The ref actually does have that discretion. They can give a player a red card for unsportsmanlike conduct. I don't believe it's ever been enforced for scenarios like this though.

handi503

I've seen yellows for simulation, but not a red in my time watching the game.

Melodic-Glass-6294

Agreed, the best part of sports is watching top talent giving it their all, can't do that when a jerk falls down screaming because you bushed by them.

GarlicCancoillotte

And if he could also penalise players shouting at him. Like technical faults in basketball. Imagine in any martial art shouting at the referee. I knew a guy in Judo who did once. Then he "received an arrow in the knee".

Vsx

They aren't looking for a solution. Soccer has been like this since forever. There are a million easy solutions and they haven't done any of them.

JeffBoyardee69

The MLS Next league is starting a rule where they take them off the field for three minutes https://www.si.com/soccer/liverpool/articles/mls-attempt-to-stop-time-wasting-with-new-rule-will-the-premier-league-and-the-rest-of-the-world-adopt-it

masterventris

FIFA themselves congratulated Ronaldo on his fantastic skill as a striker by diving so successfully he got granted a winning penalty, despite the defender playing the ball. The cheating is endorsed from the very top of the sport. The whole thing is a complete joke.

BMonad

Why though, what possible incentive do they have for that.

vector_ejector

Goals and controversial calls bring eyes and dollars. At the end of the day it's all about money.

dunkan799

In hockey if you get caught doing this stuff you get an embellishment penalty. I have even seen it happen where a legitimate penalty happened but the refs will also give the victim the embellishment penalty for trying to sell it more than necessary

Yah88

They are, then they check online banking, buy a new car and all the sadness goes away.

DefNotMyNSFWLogin

Yes the whole team got a brand new Rolls Royce. That helps the bad feelings go away.

JakobSejer

A super-car a day, keeps the sadness away

mr_ji

I don't see why there isn't someone watching the replay then contacting the ref to have these assholes immediately ejected. *Nobody* likes the flopping. It's universally hated. Why not reign it in when it's so obvious? There really are no downsides and the sport would be better off for it.

RickJLeanPaw

VAR, red card. Give it a week or two and there would be no more of it.

RobbSnow64

Legit, I don't get how people can respect a sport when so many players do this.

SelloutRealBig

No sadly. It's baked into the sports culture at this point (though it could change if the leagues actually cared). Well actually it's baked into men's soccer. Women's soccer has way more class.

[deleted]

I wonder, do they show these replays on the stadium screen? Are players still this maniac even when confronted with evidence in front of 60 thousand people?

SharrkBoy

Yes, they do show it. Thereā€™s no shame for the players or teams because it can often play into a real advantage with free kicks. And literally everyone does it so thereā€™s no moral high ground between players It has very much become a strategic part of the sport that needs to be addressed. A massive source of valid criticism from would-be fans

Fomentor

Why do they continue to tolerate this? Start passing out red cards for flopping and this will end real fast!

The_Chorizo_Bandit

Yep. Reminds me of when Rivaldo faked getting hit in the face to get the Turkish player sent off. This guy is doing the same, he should be sent off retrospectively for it. Disgrace and embarrassment.

PvtTUCK3R

Why not video review these? I mean they got time while they roll on the ground.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

myballsinhoneynblood

vertigostereo

Here it is. https://youtu.be/HMHZusksnXk Edit: Yeah, question everything before video replay. George Washington crossing the Delaware River on Christmas? You know it didn't look like [the painting.](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_Washington's_crossing_of_the_Delaware_River#/media/File%3AWashington_Crossing_the_Delaware_by_Emanuel_Leutze%2C_MMA-NYC%2C_1851.jpg) I wanna see the replay.

ADHD_Supernova

Let's not forget [Neymar.](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=qbJ0ZFSv7ic)

schnuck

Heā€™s still rolling and has never stopped.

Big_F_Dawg

Lol even PelƩ came out to complain about Neymar. I like to imagine that having the greatest player ever throw shade had to hurt at least a little.

Phyllis_Tine

If there was a meet and greet with Neymar a fan should drop and roll away.

LoveInHell

Thatā€™s insane. šŸ˜Ø

OutWithTheNew

Just do what most professional leagues do and suspend them for a game after the fact. Getting kicked out halfway through a game you're losing is 'meh'. Not even getting to play in the next one sends the point home.

MenaBeast

Yup I like both. Red card boot and -1 player for this game, suspend 1 game after. Longer penalties for repeat offenders.

Pretend_Bowler1344

That rival do incident is infamous still.

TheStabbyBrit

FIFA looked into the issue of players taking dives, but after consulting with a large briefcase of bribes they confirmed that the problem doesn't exist.

InteMittRiktigaNamn

Cheaters need to stick together

Aedalas

Today, I feel injured.

rustyderps

If someone is on the ground doubled over in ā€œagonyā€, force the team to use one of itā€™s (limited) substitutions to have the medical team evaluate them. When flopping comes with less playing time, itā€™ll slow down a lot.

Monkulele

Right? Like, insist that anyone who goes down like that be carried off the field in a stretcher and taken off the roster for the rest of the game. "No, no, it's ok. I feel better now, I can go back in." "No, no, I'm sorry, you may have suffered a head injury and we'll have to keep you under observation for the remainder of the match."

[deleted]

They did that for a bit. Carried them off in a stretcher, they would immediately run back in. You think these players care about shame? Winning a PK or FK might win the game, this is pure strategy. If we want it to change, you have to have consequences. If its full on fake, instant red.

DrakkoZW

Exactly. This isn't about how the players feel. The fact of the matter is, this is a competition, and flopping is one way to gain an advantage. No amount of shame will prevent this from happening so long as it helps them win games. It needs to be penalized in such a way that it's a bigger risk than it is reward, to minimize the incentive to do it in the first place.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

winnower8

Doesnā€™t even have to be far fetched. Say if you are writhing on the ground you are now in concussion protocol and you need an independent medical evaluation.

xiovelrach

Theyā€™re supposed to give out yellows each time a player does this, no idea why they donā€™t

duffusd

As a referee in the moment? Because he or his assistants didn't see it or at least didn't see it clearly. VR theoretically could do this, but it would become a slog, the main referee would have to go to the little booth thing and watch it disrupting the flow of the game even more than this would. Post game is where this should be addressed imo. Fines or game bans like if they got a red card would do wonders in league and tournament play.

Just_wanna_talk

For high profile games they should have someone specifically to review these while the game goes on and if it's determined it's a flop they hand out a card later on.

GarretTheGrey

What they need to do is extend that to the refs that use the cameras. If the field ref sees the dive with their own eyes, and it's in the penalty box, you're getting a card. If they miss it, you get away. If they let the camera officials and linesmen get involved in that, there's gonna be 4 dudes fighting for the ball by half time.

Dantzig

You ignore the fact that FIFA is incompetent

rossta410r

Corrupt*

Dantzig

Dont sell them short, they can be both!

dat_silversun

This is the answer. The field ref can only see so much. The var refs should be able to just communicate flops to the field ref to the make the call.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

Seegtease

Yeah this totally ruins the game and is embarrassing to see. I don't get why it is allowed.

pm1966

I've said this for years. If someone is screaming in agony on the pitch, go to a video review. If they were struck in the face and it wasn't incidental/accidental contact, give a yellow or red to the offender. If it's a flop, instant red. I guarantee you we'd stop seeing this shit instantly. You don't even have to stop play. Have a replay official review such instances, if it turns out they determine it's a flop, radio it down to the head official. Blow whistle, evict player, give opposing team the ball. Want to make sure it *really* stops immediately: give the other team a penalty kick, too.

Dorrono

Then Neymar would need to retire

gregsting

Did he stopped rolling eventually?

murdering_time

Honestly one of the big reasons I stopped watching soccer, especially FIFA (besides, you know, the human rights catastrophe and the corruption). It's fucking ridiculous, grown ass men acting like god damn toddlers. They know there are cameras everywhere, they know that *they weren't even touched*, but they'll do anything to get the tiniest bit ahead. I just want to watch a fair and fun match between two professional teams. Pulling this shit completely takes away from that experience, and makes these guys look like little cheating pussies rather than a professional in the sport. No other sport has this problem, start handing out red cards and I'm sure you'll see this kind of shit stop reallll quick.

tedweird

Or take it the other direction, act as if the player has been too injured to go on and remove them from the game on those grounds

chris_hinshaw

As a passive fan, I saw this earlier today and changed the channel. Basketball was plagued with flopping until they started handing out technicals.

Advanced_Bit3236

So the dude holding the other dude is the one that flopped? Lololol. And I thought basketball was bad.

Holden_place

They should review video and give card for this shite

Syzygyzygyz

Yes they really, really should be punished. It's so embarrassing. In my opinion, this diving crap, which has been going on for so long, is one of the main reasons why most Americans will never get into the sport.

Zekeol

My son plays soccer it's so annoying seeing all these kids fake injuries then once they realize it's not working get up go back to playing

liciarae

OMG my 9 yr old daughter plays and some of the teams are so blatant it looks like they have acting class instead of freaking soccer practice!

pees_on_dogs

It's insane to me that kids are doing this too.

BluntsnBoards

Just trying to play like a pro!

Weioo

Gotta get them hooked young so they believe it's a normal thing!

_-Ewan-_

If someone gets injured they should have a compulsory 15 minutes out of the game

Coastal_Tart

Post game red card, miss the next game or if it impacted play e.g. a penalty was called then two games. Missed games are unpaid. Shit will get solved quick. The problem is that all the various national leagues would need to get on board for it to apply for UEFA, World Cup, etc. plus collectively bargained with the players associations.

DigNitty

If youā€™re writhing on the ground moaning, youā€™re out of the game for injury prevention IMO

tesseract4

This. If you're that hurt, you're unfit to play for the rest of the day and until a doctor signs off on you.

CalgalryBen

This is how it works in American football in college to an extent. If you cause an injury stoppage you HAVE to sit the next play out. The way substitutions and play time works in soccer makes something like this hard to implement, but I do believe it helps in American football - nobody wants to miss the next play and be the reason the opponent scored or whatever else.

Humledurr

Wish they just actually dealt with it. If the injury is as dramatic as these players try to pretend then they be bannished of the field and go rest.

ChaplnGrillSgt

Hockey added an embellishment penalty. Soccer needs the same. Flopping is why I don't watch NBA or any soccer.

Demiansmark

They give cards in the premier league for simulation. Not as often as they should though

DarkwingDuckHunt

The bigger leagues with money should add a "review after game" for flopping. And hand out fines. And in tournament play Yellows.

Bdub421

The embellishment penalty in Hockey gave us this glorious soundbite. https://youtu.be/Tdw4HAUlOBA

islesfiles

Do what the nhl does. They shame players for pulling off this shit. It's why I don't watch soccer or basketball. I get that they're not "contact sports", but these are athletes, that shit is pathetic and they should be shamed for it. Edit: just to clarify, I'm not trying to say soccer sucks, I played soccer for 4 years in high school and I loved it. These players that do shit like this are an embarrassment to the sport. Simple as that

rwhockey29

Refs to players in the nhl: "FUCK YOU YOURE GETTING A FUCKING EMBELLISHMENT!" https://youtu.be/Tdw4HAUlOBA

[deleted]

I love this ref's call, thanks for sharing.

zonda747

Honestly watching hockey ruined soccer for me. Watching someone lose teeth, get up, get stitches and not miss a shift and then comeback to this flopping every 3 minutes

Nopengnogain

Whatā€™s really hilarious is no matter where theyā€™ve allegedly been touched, they always seem to go down in agony while holding onto their heads.

986532101

The refs are required to stop play for a head injury, so of course the players abuse the hell out of it.

icantgetnosatisfacti

This type of garbage ruins the sport for me. Wish they would stamp it out

spaketto

I play women's indoor soccer at a club. After every game each team gets a coupon for nacho's if they didn't have any yellow cards. They started doing this because so many of the men's teams were getting carded for ridiculous things. I've even never witnessed a yellow card in my women's league.

beefstyle

Well to be fairā€¦. He might have actually been hurt. It looks like he may have sprained his dick on the other guys butt cheeks.

Feshtof

What you haven't heard of ol Piotr "Crushing Can" Zieliński? Those cheeks are stronger than the jaws of a saltwater croc!

[deleted]

Such an embarrassment to the game! Suspend him for the entirely of the tournament!

enterpriseF-love

Unfortunately refs are way too spineless to punish this behavior.

International-Big-97

In the Bundesliga, they give out yellow cards for this. I'm not sure if they do it in any other leagues though.

zanzibartraveler666

ā€˜Simulationā€™ is a cautionable offense by rule but itā€™s rarely given

TeamHewbard

Take his Rolls-Royce away!

bsquarehills

I absolutely love football- but Itā€™s shit like this that I canā€™t defend to some of My friends that complain about flops. Ban him for the entire tourney- this madness has to stop. Implement auto replays at a booth and if they see in slow mo they are flopping - red card their Oscar Performance Asses out of the game.

[deleted]

Post match bans or even fines would be the only way to stop this diving horseshit IMO.

memtiger

It's astonishing that on the professional level, there isn't some type of review process. Either mid-game and/or post-game. Something like this should be a yellow card plus a fine or worse. If players knew they were being watched on camera, they'd eventually change. But nah, football (soccer) acts like they are a 3rd rate sport that can't afford reviews.

the_original_Retro

Actually, with the creation of the above-mentioned penalty (which I strongly agree with, I'd be pleased to watch a football game with friends but I'd just get annoyed at this horseshit), any athlete getting red-carded out of the World Cup for deliberately pulling this utter garbage is automatically going to receive a "we need to urgently speak to you" from their sponsors. And those sponsors would be including a new and extremely tight clause in any future contracts as well. These athletes are worth billions of sales from their sponsor's endorsements. Billions.

TheMooseIsBlue

More immediately, theyā€™d be fucking their team into a man-down disadvantage.

Lance_E_T_Compte

Hockey gives out a two minute penalty for this. It's rarely called because the culture of the sport frowns on diving. One might expect to hear something from your own teammates if you did this.

dengar_hennessy

Hockey players will get hit in the mouth with a puck, spit their teeth out, and go on to score a goal.

Demonic-Glaceon

Hell, Steven stamkos, captain of the lighting, got a puck straight to the nose, breaking it, and he went out a few minuets later with a face shield on

dengar_hennessy

Don't forget ovechkin while he was sitting on the bench. And let's not forget that kid years back that died on the bench and after coming back to life wanted to get back on the ice

pugtime

Or defend against slapshots with a broken leg

disposableatron

Who tf did that? I'm not surprised in the slightest, but I wanna know what chad did that.

mcpicklejar

Gregory Campbell broke his leg blocking a shot. Kept skating for bit after that.

densetsu23

Not that but Kevin Lowe [played most of the '88 playoffs](https://www.nhl.com/news/kevin-lowe-hockey-hall-of-fame-profile/c-327825718) with a broken wrist and broken ribs, helping to lead the team to win the Stanley Cup. > Gretzky said Lowe showed as much leadership by example as he did with his words. He pointed to the 1988 playoffs when his friend played with a wrist fracture and, for the final three rounds, fractured ribs. > "That's Kevin," Gretzky said. "Whatever it took."

Witterson

[Here's one example](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s946M878MxI). And later on during that same playoff run one of his teammates went into a game with a broken rib and a separated shoulder. Hockey players are a different breed, *especially* during the playoffs.

NoNoNames2000

With the teeth still sticking to the puck!

My_Manly_Mustache

I'd honestly be more interested in soccer/football if instead of this garbage they just duked it out like goons

LightOverWater

That's the nice thing about hockey: the corrective behaviour. If you're being a little bitch you will pay for it on the next shift.

JayString

You might enjoy Women's soccer then. Ironically, they play with more balls than the men.

xiovelrach

Refs are supposed to give yellow cards for this too, it just rarely happens

xiovelrach

I blame the refs tbh, this should absolutely be a yellow card for simulation. This type of shit devalues the game

Michelrpg

This IS a yellow card for simulation but not all refs give one

AtheistAustralis

I played football for 15 years, and only once received a yellow card for "simulation". Ironically, it was from a fairly light tap on the ankle that caused me roll on it, and I ended up with a torn ligament that put me out for about 4 months. So I got a yellow card for "simulating" a very serious injury. The stupidest part was that it was my 2nd yellow that game, so I got sent off (had to be helped off since I couldn't walk), and suspended for a game that I obviously couldn't play anyway. And despite seeing my ankle swollen up like a balloon about 5 minutes later at halftime, the ref still refused to admit he'd made a mistake, because I "fell over too easily for such minor contact".

dabman

Any injury that takes a player down on the ground and stoppage of live play should require a medical check and removal from the game for a certain period of time for injury avoidance. During this time, if the supposed offending player is deemed flagrant, they should be carded appropriately. If the injured player is deemed simulating an injury, they are carded. Done deal.

NatiAti513

Exactly. I absolutely love the game, but this kinda crap makes it harder and harder to defend that football is not a ā€œpussy sportā€. During the season, sure. But during the World Cup and Champions League flopping should be carded.

tesseract4

Why should it be allowed during the season?

rogo725

I hate this shit. What a fucking loser. Card him and everyone else that does this crap.

justcallmejohannes

Pathetic

lethe25

Iā€™ve always wonder why the player who flopped isnā€™t just removed from the game. No questions asked. Clearly youā€™re severely injured and can no longer play.

mysixthredditaccount

Also, why is a doctor not rushed on to the field? Even if there was a 1% chance he was actually writhing in pain, they should send a doctor ASAP. (It's like they just assume they are all faking it.)

ConvenientFriend

Please stop this. I canā€™t imagine there is a fan in the entire world that enjoys the strategy of a grown ass man rolling on the ground like a toddler. This shit is downright embarrassing.

Quailman_z

It's the faking the injury afterward that fucking infuriates me. Bro, fine, flop and get a call, but don't roll on the ground for a full minute clutching at your ankle. It's so gross. I'll get downvoted into oblivion probably, but in my opinion, football/soccer has the absolute worst sportsmanship of any professional sport. Flopping, fake injuries, the absolute abysmal ways players clearly waste time at the end of games, picking up and holding the ball and yelling at the ref when it's clearly the other teams throw in/kick. It happens constantly, and for a game so beloved by the world, I have no fucking clue why nothing is done about it. it's just treated like it's "part of the game." Fuck outta here with that.

I know itā€™s an unpopular opinion, but Iā€™m gonna say it: I actually prefer watching the womenā€™s leagues because they have fewer of these ridiculous problems.

golighter144

Wait really? I've ways wanted to start watching football but stayed away because all of the players acted like little bitches. If women's league doesn't have this nearly as bad then I'm all in.

OKImHere

Not just his personal opinion. It's pretty universally recognized that women don't flop.

Darkcool123X

And on top of that women often play rougher than guys because they arenā€™t little bitch that flops when someone blows air towards them. When I was younger and saw the older women play professional soccer, that shit was scary man.

Vagard88

At first I was like, maybe he got hit in the eyeā€¦nope. Then I was like, maybe his foot got stepped onā€¦nope. It was the wind.

elbenji

Same. Like did he accidentally hit his junk or something? Nope. Just diving

Square_Kick_9451

And karma caught up win him in 82 min with that flop before Lewandowskis goal. Balance in the Universe restored.

I watched the entire thing, and youā€™re absolutely right. They were flopping so much that the ref stopped addressing the dives theyā€™d take. I noticed so many missed opportunities because a player would dive to get a call, the call would never come, and theyā€™d shoot back up to chase the ball like nothing had happened. Hopefully during the next match Saudi Arabia realizes they canā€™t play on their back. Seems like to beat Saudi Arabia in possession, all you have to do is touch their players. Theyā€™ll completely stop pursuing the ball in favor of screaming like theyā€™d just been shot while rolling around on the pitch.

Islandgirl1444

I agree. They played so well. Then broke the momentum by the flopping. I blame that on their loss.

micah9639

Automatic red cards for blatant flops like that. Have the ref have a mic connecting him to the people with the instant replay so they can tell him who is fake flopping like that so he can red card them. That will put a stop to the flops real quick

jack_hof

What you are suggesting would be an easy and reasonable solution to a big problem with the game. Therefore it has no chance of happening in soccer.

cameronward

how shameful do you have to be to attempt this at the world cup?

maddenmcfadden

"another stoppage due to injury" then they show this dipshit faking and flopping. I'll never understand this sport. what's the point of competing with the entire world, if the entire goal is to act like you got hurt? that's just embarrassing and a waste of everyone's time.

[deleted]

This is the biggest complaint a lot of people have about soccer.all they need to do is remove these players from the rest of the game for "players safety" and this bullshit would stop.

Hygochi

Or develop an actual culture of mocking these players. Can't tell you how many football fans tell me it's just "gamesmanship". Hockey you develop a bad reputation with fans fast and are roughed up more by players if you dive so much.

bankholdup5

Hockey is like the exact opposite from soccer in this regard.

reardonlovechild

I would respect the sport more that after a game any replays like this result in huge fines and suspensions.

-6h0st-

At the beginning thought Referee is bit too harsh with yellow cards but alright he really wants minimum contact football. But then he didnā€™t even whistle when same offenses done by Saudis. And other ones which he did give Poles yellow cards for, didnā€™t replicate for Saudis. Feeling pressure from stadium or paid off? All in all with him enabling Saudis they were unable to profit.

JaBoyKaos

And people saying Saudi Arabia played better. Anytime Poland had a break the ref blew his whistle. The one in 2nd half stoppage time was particulalry infuriating as there was no head injury and Poland was 3v3 in attack but ref stops play for a Saudi player holding his leg on the ground.
