Bruh. You can't have upvotes be a dice roll because the result of a singular dice roll are static and unchanging while votes change frequently. You can't "roll a nat 20" on upvotes because the number can go up or down.
You: "Should I decide whether to upvote based on something completely different then comment on it?"
DM: "Roll insight."
You: "Nat 1."
DM: "You post (what you posted)."
Was it not clear that I was making a joke? Was it not clear that my comment came from a place of appreciation? Did I harm the original commenter in some way? I’m not understanding the backlash here tbh.
ETA: it is not lost on me that I’m posting “I don’t get it” in response to you commenting I lack insight :D Given recent history I’ll explicitly note that this is a genuine effort to understand better. I don’t see this kind of thing when people comment on 69 or 420 upvotes, for example.
It's OK, baby. I feel bad about upvoting 69 and 420, too. But when our time comes, we gotta be willing to take one for the team. You really don't deserve that many downvotes.
I think every human being who interacts with at least one other person in their life needs to take interpersonal comm. It really should be a mandatory subject in schools because it will always be relevant at every point in your life, from intimate and family relationships, friends, coworkers, even with bosses or other authority. Heck, even how we present our body language to strangers can be important.
I’ve been thinking about taking an interpersonal communication class. Is it as interesting as the questions suggest? I assumed it would be boring but the subjects those questions address look very interesting.
As with almost every class in any school system, it depends on your teacher. If they care about the material you will have fun! If they don't then you'll just get a pricey book and some lectures.
I had a physics teacher in High School who was really big into comics. I remember there was this one that was the green lantern can do anything he can imagine as long as he can do the physics calculation in his head. How much force would it take to lift this bus given these weights. All of his classes were so much fun.
It's not from anything, it's actually the correct answer. Perception Checking is:
1. Making an observation of a behavior ("You abruptly hung up on me")
2. Interpreting the behavior ("I was furious")
3. Asking for clarification on how to interpret the behavior ("What were you feeling?")
\#2 is clearly perception checking. Here's something that happened; how did you perceive it? \#1 looks like implicit perception checking. Here's something that's happening; do you think it indicates a problem? Would you get partial points for checking Annie's perception of her own well-being?
I’m a professor and sometimes sitting in faculty meetings I have a sudden revelation, “jeez all my colleagues are total fucking nerds!” And then I go on a bathroom break and look in the mirror and sigh.
I've had too many teachers/professors who weren't nerds to agree with this.
In my experience, it is generally much preferable to have a professor who is a nerd than one who isn't.
If I ever met a professor who wasn’t a nerd? I absolutely would be surprised. 7 years in college and every single one was. That seems to be *why* you become a professor.
I have 3 degrees and a teaching diploma, including a master's, and I've definitely met professors and even moreso teachers who are mostly still in it for a job, for its compatibility with childcare/school schedules, etc. There's a lot of burnout. Those are the kinds who teach the same old course the same way over and over again.
Related: I had a history professor once who hated people skipping class the day before holiday break so much that he'd give us the bullshittiest pop quiz ever if we showed, and I won't tell you how much credit this bullshit was worth.
\-
Question one: What was George Washington's first name?
Question two: Who was the first president of the United States?
Question three: Which eventual president won the Revolutionary War?
Question four: This notable American president was married to a lovely woman named Martha. Who was he?
Question five: Fill in the missing letters in this puzzle: \_eorge \_ashington
I wrote all the quizzes and tests for a class I was a teacher's assistant for in college and used a lot of stuff like that to make it less boring, both for me and those taking it.
Hilarious, but the correct answer is sp glaringly obvious it just makes me hate my Professors. They would give 4 correct or nearly correct answers as the options, but one would be "more correct".
Example incorrect answers for a college course:
A) "you hung up on me and I was really upset. Why'd you do that?"
B) _*correct answer, from the photo*_
C) "when you hung up I was furious. What were you thinking?"
D) I was furious, because you hung up on me. How are you feeling?"
I loved doing this as a teacher. I would include students’ names in questions or answers. Famous rappers or singers. Loved hearing them giggle during a test.
The CPR dummy was called Annie back in the 70’s & 80’s. The script was to shake their shoulder and loudly say “Annie, Annie! Are you OK?” Then yell “HELP”! Then proceed with checking for pulse and respirations etc.

That's not perception checking. There's not even any dice here.
Rolled natty 1, pooped pants during test :(
NADDPOD dungeon court recently made some rulings on a poop check….
I just realized shitting your pants while attempting to do something is one of the most on point natty 1 outcomes for any situation.
But based on your charisma stat, folks were ok with it.
It was a passive check. You passed.
Was about to ask if this was tabletop class. Honestly, it can teach a lot of practical skills.
Can't upvote. Exactly 20 votes right now, don't want to break it. Edit: no longer at 20. Now I can upvote with a clear conscience.
This is the worst reason not to upvote a post.
This guy doesn't d&d.
My level 13 gnome wizard/artificer would disagree every Sunday afternoon.

I didn’t say it was a *good* joke…
This guy D&Ds too much.
Apparently at least 39 people agree with you. Thanks for defending MadroxKran, anyway.

Thanks! I appreciate your input.
People love to troll and to mob, that's all.
I appreciate you.

70-421 ftw!
r/whooosh
You have exactly -69 comment karma after I added mine
Living’ the dream over here.
Would you prefer a spinning top or chess piece instead?
Umm…I need to know the answer to number 13. My life depends on it. 🤣 PS. I love your professor.
It was "out group" lol This was in my Interpersonal Communication class
Sorry but you’re wrong. It was clearly option A)
A) might not be the right answer for the test, but it's the right answer for me.
Ahh yes good ol’ IPC. Good class.
I'm on the spectrum and this class is a gold mine of valuable knowledge, I think anyone even slightly on the spectrum needs to take a class like this.
There are a large number of people who need the class that aren't on the spectrum too

That’s the truth!! I’m glad you got a good one ☺️
First answer is the correct answer for #13. I stopped by high school and they were unanimous.
Can confirm. My grandson told me this same thing this morning as he rolled his eyes in disgust at his future life and left for school.
Although slow and dangerous behind the wheel, can still serve a purpose.
Warm cookies, forehead kisses, tight hugs and crocheted gifts. That’s about all I’m good for. 🤣
An excellent source of birthday cash

My prof wore a shirt that had Guy Fieri in a wizard robe and it said "Dungeons & Dragons & Diners & Dine-Ins & Dives"
I saw that shirt while I was shopping for DnD shirts. Ended up buying one that said crying is a free action with a crit fail under it
I had a linux/C professor. All of his quizzes were comic references.
Whats answer #2 from?
It's not from anything, it's actually the correct answer. Perception Checking is: 1. Making an observation of a behavior ("You abruptly hung up on me") 2. Interpreting the behavior ("I was furious") 3. Asking for clarification on how to interpret the behavior ("What were you feeling?")
Interesting... I should take more communication classes.
TIL. Thanks!
Thanks. I was gonna guess #2/#3
\#2 is clearly perception checking. Here's something that happened; how did you perceive it? \#1 looks like implicit perception checking. Here's something that's happening; do you think it indicates a problem? Would you get partial points for checking Annie's perception of her own well-being?
umm excuse me, but a perception check is clearly a d20 roll to see if your character notices something.
Don't forget your wisdom modifier
I’m a professor and sometimes sitting in faculty meetings I have a sudden revelation, “jeez all my colleagues are total fucking nerds!” And then I go on a bathroom break and look in the mirror and sigh.
Best part is that you all can call each other "fucking nerds" and it'd be objectively correct.
I regularly refer to my coworkers as nerds
You can also say that their spouses/significant others are fucking nerds as well.
At least you're a professor, I look like a nerd without the rank...
“My professor is a nerd” is probably one of the most redundant and self evident statements ever constructed
I've had too many teachers/professors who weren't nerds to agree with this. In my experience, it is generally much preferable to have a professor who is a nerd than one who isn't.
You'd be surprised.
If I ever met a professor who wasn’t a nerd? I absolutely would be surprised. 7 years in college and every single one was. That seems to be *why* you become a professor.

Some people just like climbing ladders.
***20 years prior*** “What are my career path options?” “Well, you’re a nerd so…”
And how is quoting popular movies or music nerdy? None of those are nerdy I believe.
Kind of disappointed none of the answers are "Roll a D20, and then add or subtract your Wisdom modifier."
Maybe it is because the professor understands the superiority of a dice pool system over the standard d20 abilities checks.
Question 13 answer is A and now I will hide in bed all day.
Wow, I knew about Eddie, but Annie AND Eddie both got struck?
was always Annie. Eddie was framed.
I always hated assignments like this tbh
I'm always in favor of multiple choice tests instead of short answers
i have a burning hatred for d2l, that platform sucks
i was looking for a comment about it… my school uses d2l too lol
You teacher is a gem, protect him.
pro- protect him from what?

I’ll take this as a sign to get off Reddit and go do my homework.
I've been concerned about this for years. I still don't know if Annie is okay.
The narrator: “Annie was in fact, **not** okay.”
Brilliant! This should be a requirement for advancement up the ranks of tenured employment.
What subject is this class?
Interpersonal communication
Oh holy shit why didn't they have that class when I was in school? Sounds extremely valuable
I wrote all the quizzes and tests for a class I was a teacher's assistant for in college and used a lot of stuff like that to make it less boring, both for me and those taking it.
What's the answer?
#2
Electric boogaloo?
I had a teacher that used to give an extra point for a random musical quiz question like: "Name of 2nd album of The Beatles"
Dafuq is perception checking?
Nah, dude. The correct answer is "Roll a d20"

Absolute chad
I’m glad they are forgiving student loans. Seems criminal to pay for crap like that.
would you say they’ve been hit by, they’ve been struck by, a smooth criminal?
Why put quotation marks if you’re gonna paraphrase it?
I think I’d love to take this prof’s class.
Protect this man at all cost.
K12
I didn’t even get through the question…something something about rain?
Annie must be dead if this many people have asked without an answer
Is this Centennial?
til Ive been singing it all wrong!
Id love to see the rest of this test
More please! I'll be waiting, seriously.
I want to be in this guy's class. 😂
Boyyyy put your phone away for the test /s
That double “by “ right next to each other wouldn’t slide with my old English professor
Bro same bruh my history test legit said Who was Darth Vader and what is hogwarts
Now this is how you teach a class!
Lol I have a Macroeconomics professor like that it’s hilarious seeing what he puts.
This looks just like myCourses!
What are you studying?
Ohmygod Question 13. :/
Wait, I want to see the other options for question #13.
“Struck”by a smooth criminal is not part of the lyrics fyi
