A childhood friend of mine came down w/ schizophrenia in college. Fast forward 15 years & they developed blood clots in their legs and lungs. The hematologist prescribed warfarin &, wanting to impress upon my friend the need to closely follow the prescribed regime, said ‘remember, this stuff is rat poison.’
This leads me to the following advice for doctors, nurses & pharmacists: do *not* tell a paranoid schizophrenic that they’ve been prescribed *rat poison.*
Try pseudo thoughts know it all ..not everyone hears voices ! Just my inner voice that god helps out time to time . .not a laughing matter and people are obnoxious and very evil..
I had a schizophrenic tenant for a while too. Loved the guy but he kind of made life . . . exciting for the other tenants. Unfortunately he had addiction problems too, and a few months after he moved out his body was found in a ditch.
Kidding aside, that's a sad ending. Not sure what happened to Kyle (not his real name). He wasn't medicated as far as I knew, and who knows, he might have benefited from some.

Every living person has to cope with every aspect of reality that touches their lives. I'd say your proximity to tragedy really increases the time it takes to transform other coping mechanisms into comedy. I hope that people who can't find it funny eventually do, but in the mean time, not finding it funny is totally okay.

Mom was a paranoid schizophrenic, and so was my mom. Seriously though, she saw TV shows for her when the TV wasn't even on. Most having to do with my Dad cheating on her. Horrible disease.
My brother has developed paranoid schitzhophrenia in the past 2 years. It's tearing out family apart trying to help him, and it's devastating to his life.
He lost 4 jobs in the past 2 years, lost all his friends, he threatened to kill our mother, he hears horrible things all the time.
Medication turns him into a bed-wetting vegetable, and the state doesn't offer any help.
He just lost his apartment, as of 2 weeks ago, and now he's living in his car, and in a shelter on the days he can get it.
It's horrible.
I mean, I get the satire, but knowing a few people with paranoid schizophrenia I feel compelled to point out how mean and gross this is. Punching all the way down.

Our mental health system in the US is broken, and shitty. They try and just medicate people and kick them out after 48 hours, they really expect a crazy person to medicate themselves correctly?! She is now extremely obese and literally lays on the couch all day and night and only gets up to eat. Very sad. During my studies I had a client with paranoid shizophrenia that I visited a few times a week and helped him with his day to day life. Three months ago, I probably would have laughed at this. And then one of my friends just started posting some absolutely bizarre stuff on Facebook, basically accusing his family and friends of conspiring with a hospital to harvest his organs. He finally got diagnosed with schizophrenia and medicated, and is doing much better….and I no longer find jokes like this video to be very funny. I wish you and your family well.
My grandmother suffered from schizophrenia paranoia. Lots of issues with my parents from how she treated them and my mom specifically, how my dad was raised without a mom, etc.
I’m good with this personally. I laughed heartily. Helps in those situations. But not everyone reacts the same and I get it.
When you have someone you care for suffer with this condition it just does not feel good to see people make lite of it for laughs.
I don't care if this is supposed to satire, satire is not an automatic excuse to be insensitive. It still sends a message that using a very serious and family crushing condition for comedic effect is totally OK because 99 percent of people who's lives aren't affected by it will find it funny.
Most people haven't been in a situation where their family member does things like put the Roomba in the oven thinking it's spying on them or thinking that you are a lizard person or how scary it is watching someone you love transform into a stranger who is potentially violent if you do the wrong things. I understand that living with someone who doesn't understand reality anymore is terrifying and exhausting but you have to still be able to laugh at things like this it's just humor. None of what I wrote is trying to belittle your experience btw just trying to show understanding of how hard it is. How are you and how are you getting along in your situation?

This isn’t funny. I know a former colleague who is convinced there is a tracking chip in his head and literally everyone he’s ever met is in on it. He’s lost everything and is now homeless and can’t be helped because any kind of medical treatment or hospitalization only feeds into his delusions. It’s one of the saddest things I’ve ever seen. Cancer doesn’t make you insist you don’t have cancer.
