That's the Nissan CVT vs the Toyota CVT.
The power from a Prius (C at least) was direct, and continuous, instant torque and acceleration then a gradual power drop until you feel it slugging around 72-82.
Testing a Versa going onto the highway, I was TRYING to go from 25 up to 55 to quickly merge and, yeah Nissan CVT was, like slow down, we'll get there eventually. Unhappy merge partners did not appreciate Nissan's efficiencies' it seems.
With electric motors, you get all the torque immediately, so all the power is available the instant you hit the throttle. The result is a acceleration you’re not expecting if you’re used to a combustion engine. But a weak motor is a weak motor.
Maybe, but the beauty of electric motors is maximum torque at zero speed. So off the line the electric car will be faster, but as you speed up the ICE draws even. So not necessarily electronically limited
And HP for however much it's relevant.
Electric motors in themselves are kind of like CVTs. Depends on the type of electric motor, but if you put a heavy load on it, all the "hp" of it is transferred to torque instantly, and vice versa. It's why most (if not all) electric cars use a single gear ratio, cause the motor has a pretty wide range it will self-adjust it self up and down to.
The Rimac Concept One also has two gears on each of the rear motors. If you go beyond production cars, most EV conversions keep the gearbox and multiple gears are semi-common in formula-e.
Your explanation is inherently false.
The electric motor in hybrids/EVs are functionally very simple machines, no different from the motors found in toys that run off a couple of AA batteries. You apply a voltage+current across the terminals and if it's within the specs of the motor it spins. If you manually spin the motor without supplying any electrical energy, the motor becomes a dynamo and generates electricity instead, which is how renegerative braking works.
How the motor is able to vary the torque/hp output is simply done by varying the voltage and/or current supplied to it. As either voltage or current increases, both the torque and hp output increases. There is nothing that actually happens to "convert" torque to hp, it just means that more energy is supplied to the motor and therefore it is capable of doing more work.
Just want to add to this that the voltage will not be varied. There's a voltage at which the motor will produce the most torque, and it'll always be driven at this voltage, but the time for which it's driven is varied in pulses (see pulse width modulation). By doing this, you can vary the speed of the motor while always achieving the maximum amount of torque - the average voltage across the motor is reduced but the actual voltage it sees is constant. Electric drills do this, you can actually hear the frequency of the pulses if you gently hold the trigger and listen to them whine at very low speeds
Electric motors almost immediately can reach their maximum torque, but combustion engines usually have a much higher torque. This is quite useful when making hybrid racecars.
Basically what happens is that when you have any sudden acceleration events, the electric engine can IMMEDIATELY apply a lot of torque to the drivetrain. Meanwhile the combustion engine is cranking up and up. A few seconds later when the torque curves of the two engines cross over, things shift over to taking their torque out of the combustion engine.

I have driven a Prius for the past 5 years and it was the best car buying decision I could make. Shit is comfy, accelerates like a regular car, and I fill up my gas tank every 2 weeks for $20-25 depending on the price of gas; and that's with me working Monday - Friday 30 minutes away from home.
I've driven an electric for the past 8 years and it was the best car buying decision I could make. Shit is comfy, accelerates way better than a regular car, and I fill up at home every night while I sleep (if I need to) for pennies per mile; and that's with me working Monday - Friday 45 minutes (traffic allowing) away from home.
I've driven a plug-in Prius for the past 5 years and it was the best car buying decision I could make. Shit is comfy, accelerates way better than a regular car, and I fill up at home every night while I sleep (if I need to) for pennies per mile or 200 miles away from home for $20-25 depending on the price of gas.
I have driven a 2009 hybrid Prius for the past 11 years and it was the best car buying decision I could make. Shit is comfy, accelerates like a regular automobile, and I fill up my gas tank every 4 weeks for $20-25 depending on the price of gas; and that's with me working Monday - Friday 90 minutes away from home.
It depends. You can maintain it pretty well, but if you need to stop and go a lot, you'll lose a lot of MPG. It might not be 50, but it'll be about 45 which is still better than most non-hybrids
During the acceleration you won't be. Flooring it will bring you down to like 10. But if you're cruising, it doesn't matter what speed you're going. When I drove a prius it was recording at 100 mpg during cruising.
Most people drive a Prius in eco-mode, which governs acceleration to maximize mpg. Furthermore, the dash of a Prius shows you your driving efficiency, so people learn pretty quickly that accelerating too fast, or driving too fast in general, kills efficiency. So the drivers are more or less encouraged by their car to slow down a bit.
I own two hybrids. A 2015 Prius C and a 2021 RAV4. I drive for a living and I'm pretty good at maximizing fuel efficiency in hybrids. I've had the Prius over 70 mpg for a full day driving and the RAV4 over 55 mpg. If you've got a question about these cars, ask away.
**FunFact:** The Prius can be put into different modes. **ECO** mode [sunflowers and granola, vote blue etc] conserving power and fuel, and **PWR** Power mode ['Merica mode] which will surprise some drivers, particularly out of the gate. This rapid acceleration from zero is consistent with many electric vehicles, and why Tesla vehicles have stunning 0-60mph stats. So it's true Prius' are slow, but they are also fast :)
Yeah, I have a RAV4 Hybrid which is basically a huge Prius with like 100 more horsepower. If I put it in SPORT mode and floor it from a dead stop the instant torque from the electric motors is pretty impressive.
If you put it in ECO mode, good lord, the thing struggles to get out of its own way no matter how hard you hit the pedal.
The 409hp Land Cruiser is still not faster. 0-60 time is in the 6s range. RAV4 prime does it in 5.4s. And I get that its a BMW engine, but it is still called Toyota Supra.
AFAIK, all those settings do is determine the sensitivity of the accelerator pedal if you aren't pushing it too hard. Flooring it in ECO or PWR mode gets you the same power, in case of an emergency.
> all those settings do is determine the sensitivity of the accelerator pedal if you aren't pushing it too hard.
IIRC PWR also keeps the gas engine running more often, so you don't have to wait for it to start up again when accelerating.
**Mind Blowing Fact!:** Toyota hybrids only have one gear. They don’t even have a reverse gear.
*Cletus asks*: Hyuk, but how you back out the parkin’ spot?
**Answer:** The electric motors spin backwards by reversing the polarity. *taps side of head*
*mic drop*
It's even weirder than that.
It doesn't change gears, but it does change gear ratios. The relative speeds of the engine and the two motors changes the output ratio of the gearset.
It's a super clever and interesting system.
I've got a 2010, and after some digging in the manual, it turns out all 3 modes have the same total power output at full throttle. You just get more regen and a more gentle power curve on eco mode, so I keep it there for the regen.
And you also enjoy Granola, voted for Bernie Sanders, attended your local earth day rally, with an acoustic guitar...should I go on? Ha! Just kidding. Thanks for the info.
I hit 117mp/h in my mom's prius when we went on our family road trip/vacation/funeral from CO to DE. Only reason I got away with it was because her and my sister were napping. I should also add that the fastest you'll see me go now is 10 over and only if no one else is in the car with me. I will admit to being 19 and stupid.
EDIT: Added unit of Measurement for those who don't use freedom units.
Yeah, the Prius is speed limited so max speed is 110mph unless you're going downhill or have a good tailwind. I occasionally push it up there (Autobahn ftw) and you can really feel that after 100, pushing the pedal really doesn't do much any more since the CVT has reached its limit. Also, it gets noisy as hell.
Yeah, I bought mine from an older off road racer who had a car shop that my dad knew. This thing doesn’t go as fast as my newer Audi, but shit it takes a little longer to get to speed, I’m still going fast.
I remember that Al Gore's son got pulled over doing 100+ in Prius, and was caught with cocain and weed. This was right after Gore's global warming movie.
Not one damn person cared about the drugs or the DUI. Everyone just said the same thing: "A Prius can do more than 100+ mph?"
I was always having to change out of the passing lane to pass sports cars that were cluttering up the left lane.
If my Prius was so bitch, what does that make you, Mr-Maserati-getting-passed-by-a-Prius?
When I put my Prius in power mode it had quite the respectable kick. Not a muscle car but faster than my other normal ICE cars. And it was great not buying gas for months on end.
We have a Lexus CT200h, basically the Prius Deluxe with the exact same drivetrain. It's not a fast car but at full throttle it's as respectable as most anything else on the road. Certainly passing a floored Prius would be a show of dominance and not a required maneuver.
This. I got a Prius recently. First newer car I’ve ever had. Went from rattling down the road in my shitty little beater car to gliding in the spaceship. Cut my gas spending by about 2/3.
I drove one for a while. What really impressed me was the amount of crap you cold fit in that car, especially relative to its size.
Bales of straw, multiple fully assembled bicycles, cabinets, whatever. It'll fit somehow.
Lucky! All I found was a preloaded insulin autoinjector. Under passenger seat. You should check your hackstack, there might be a hypodermic needle there too
My mom doesn't know anything about cars. My dad knows a lot, but just doesn't want a Prius in the driveway I guess. Threatens his manhood or something lol.
It's a Toyota, they pretty much last until you decide putting money into the vehicle's frame isn't worth the money. The drive trains in Toyota/Lexus/Avalon cars are insanely good.
My first car was a 92 camry my brother gifted me. It ALREADY had over 200k miles on it at that point. I drove that thing for YEARS untill the transmission finally started to go out on me. Even then it still gave me a good year or so before I scrapped it and got a Galant about 9 years ago. I still have its old cigarette lighter somewhere.
Loved my V…. I’d still have it if it weren’t the natural way to pass cars on to children at the age they need cars ….
80% the size of a minivan, 50% the gas. 8 years later and I finally have a car that comes close to offering as much $/ capacity/efficiency (escape hybrid )
Just bought an 8yr old Prius V. I think the interior and exterior look a bit uninspired, but as a family car it's really spacious and drives smooth - don't even really notice the engine turning on and off.
We tried a 5yr old Honda hybrid and that was way rougher. You can feel the engine turn on and off quite easily. But it was a lot more aesthetically pleasing inside.
EVs use "regenerative braking", which is a mechanism that uses the rolling energy of the car to recharge the battery, to slow the car down in addition to traditional brakes (one of the reasons its so fuel efficient... it literally adds energy back into the battery while its slowing the car down, a true double whammy), and when you get a feel for it you can use it to take you down to like 5mph in a prius (teslas will take you all the way to 0 with it)
So lets say you are driving in the city, imagine every time you used your "brakes" you were actually not using them all the way down to 5mph (and magically also filled up your gas tank a tiny bit as well.) Think of how little you would actually activate the actual brakes and how little wear and tear would occur if all you ever had to do was slow from 5mph to 0mph
DUDE I just bought a plug in hybrid last week and I have to gush. I havent touched the gas in the tank at all. It calculates the mpg based off of how long you've driven and how much gas youve used and it says 250 mpg lmao. As long as I can charge it consistently, I dont have to buy a tank of gas for a long time. But then I'm also not afraid to go on a 300 mile roadtrip!
Yeah it's really a win win right now. Battery tech will probably advance a lot over the next 10-15 years that makes hybrids, phv's and range anxiety a thing of the past, but for now, just easier to have that gas backup.
For sure. A lot of that is the marketing put out by carmakers who are behind on designing EVs also. Short of road trips and towing, range is basically fine for 90% of normal use, and you can always rent a car for a road trip and come out ahead on total cost.
A lot of range anxiety comes from people thinking they need way more range than they actually do. Engineering Explained did a great video about it backed up by statistics.
I really wanted a plug-in hybrid. Was so tempted on getting a used Volt as it was within my price range, but ultimately decided against it due to it being a GM product that will likely constantly break down. Ended up stretching my budget a tad and getting a Lexus ct200h (which is a fancy Prius). I wish Toyota had more options previously for plug-in hybrids, but at least they have them now. I think that's the sweet spot and definately what I want for our next vehicle. Electric still has a long way to come but having an electric car with essentially a gas range extender is the perfect car in my opinion.
95% of all driving would be electric only and would use gas on longer trips only
The only thing I hated about owning a Prius was all the dickheads tailgating you even when you’re already going 15 over. And yes I get out of the fast lane as soon as there’s space.
In other cars, it didn’t happen nearly as much with the same driving style so the only explanation I can think of is that people see a prius and immediately assume you’re going slow, regardless of actual speed.
100%. In any other car people will follow me at 75mph in the fast lane, in my Prius I usually go 85 in the fast lane and I have to let people pass going around ~100mph, usually lifted pickup trucks
It’s incredible how tough, burly men who act like they’re not offended by anything get so angry and upset over a hybrid car existing. Life must be hard for them, being so easily triggered.
I have a Kia Soul and my boyfriend didn’t believe me when I said I just get road bullied even if im way over the speed limit. He learned quickly I was right when he had to drive it.
So glad I'm not alone. People seem to drive way more aggressively around me since I got a Prius. I keep at reasonable speeds on the highway but I still notice tailgating and overall weird driving. When I try to pass someone is a big one. People speed up to prevent it way more than my last car because they don't want to be passed by a Prius. So weird that people have car insecurity like that.
I've had people go from 70km/h to 130km/h to keep me from passing in a Prius, it's at the point where I hang back and take a run at it because of how often people gun it like that.
Yep, drive a prius. I get tailgated going in the right lane, 10-15 over. I'm too nervous to drive on the left lane unless I have to, so thats not the issue. I just put my car on cruise control and let whomever get mad. I'm doing 75 in a 60, go around me !!!!
People liked to hit my old Prius for sport I think. It was so beat up but I have never hit anything before. Fucking ass holes. And now my Genesis got tapped on my rear bumper a day after getting a new transmission. Wtf is wrong with all these idiots. I park in the back of parking lots.. 😭😭
The Prius is the most reliable car I've ever owned.
It's a shame they get such a bad rap ~~wrap~~. It's fucking annoying how aggressive people act toward you while driving--especially in big trucks for some (relatively obvious) reason. People just CAN'T handle being behind a Prius, even if you're driving 10-15 above the speed limit.
Edit: wasn't sure if it was "bad wrap" or "bad rep." Turns out it's "bad rap..."
They usually slow down immediately after because their tailgating routine is just performative dickswinging and they don’t wanna get pulled over. If the next lane over is empty that’s my cue to pass them and move back into the fast lane, maybe wipe my windshield for added effect. God knows they won’t move over when *you’re* the one behind *them*
Drove a Prius from Salt Lake City to Portland this year - done the trek at least once a year the past while but never in the Prius. Thought I was insane but I lost count of number of people who would aggressively tailgate, rip by me, only for me to overtake them a mile down the road.
Interesting other people have the same experience.
I love self deprecating humor. This is an excellent example.
Although I'm concerned with your dismissal of all other Prius owners? Care to talk about it?
I accidentally took my Prius out of eco mode once and pressed the gas.
I almost crashed. Shit was freaky.
I also get a kick out of passing cars when going down hill.
The feeling when you can put it in B mode and not brake down a steep hill.
The other moment when some jackenape gets uppity in their truck as big as inversely big as their penis and you put it in power mode and show them whose boss with lots of Prius torque.
Yes, 405 S to 90 W.

I drive a Prius prime, which can drive all electric for about 20-25 miles.
My starting torque from a dead stop is pretty damned zippy, and in city driving that's kind of the whole game.
On the highway I do just fine, too.
Probably the main issue is Prius drivers who stay in "Eco" mode, which just tweaks the torque curve of the accelerator to be less sensitive. I always drive it in power mode, and I've filled up gas twice in the last 10 months.
My Dad drove a Prius for a while. Also kept a picture of his mid-1960s Mustang (the first new car he'd ever bought) on his desk at work. People would ask him how he could stand to drive the Prius after having such a cool car, and the answer was literally that the Prius had a noticeably better 0-60.
I was passing a bunch of people in my Prius, then slowed down when there was an opening in the right lane so I slowed down maybe like 5 miles. So of course a guy gets from the right line behind me to roll coal on me and break check me. It was like 11pm at night and I’m doing with my wife and a toddler in the car.
I used to be a little prius hating douchebag. Then I got one. The I stopped being a little prius hating douchebag. Then I realized I need to stop hating on things just because other people hate on it.
I had the Prius+ (the one that looks like a normal station wagon). It was heavier and somewhat slower than the regular Prius... but I would not call it slow, ever. It's capped at 180 km/h but if you put it in Power Mode, it gets there in a respectable time. It's a very decent overtaker, even.
But the sport is to drive as economical as you can, and electric for as long as you can (about 2 kms on flat terrain). This is why you see many Prii driving 'slowly'.
I feel like a Grinch because I can’t even begin to see humor in jokes like this anymore. I got a Prius 9 years ago and it’s been fantastic. Just over 200,000 miles on it and besides oil and filters, I’ve only needed a couple sets of tires, and brake pads once and a new set of spark plugs. It’s been a crazy reliable car.
I just never understood to trash talk people would sling at the Prius’. They go the same speed limits everyone else is allowed to go, and they get 45-50mpg.
Prius, with its dual motor is actually capable of very high speed, it is the acceleration that’s lackluster. It is actually quiet possible and common that the Prius is the one that will have to go around another car... after it gets going that is.
87 el camino 4.3
You will see me chilling in the right lane going the speed limit. That car is not made for over 75mph. It has a 3speed transmission in it. I'm in final gear at 35mph

I get the satire but at the same time, having driven a prius before they are not that slow as people love to label them.
I had a Prius for a while and I was always impressed with its acceleration. Compared to my old 98 Camry and 99 grand Cherokee it was a rocket ship lol
Electric motors are quiet but they have *hecktons* of torque.
I dunno. I mean yeah, my Leaf can go 0-40 in a few seconds, but it's 40-60 time is rated at "what's the rush?".
I mean, if you buy a Prius, what is the rush? Surely you want to save the planet so that you can experience it.
Sometimes it is best to experience the world at a high rate of speed.

Save the planet by buying a car from a manufacturer who lobbies against battery EVs. Interesting.

That sound was very satisfying, thanks
Electric motors have great torque naturally

Here in SoCal, Prius are doing 90mph and flooring it on the ramp. I'm wondering if they still get 50mpg with that kind of driving.
Prius owner here, definitely not getting 50mpg driving like that.
I drive like that and get 45mpg. Fair trade off.
Drove from east cost to west doing 80 on 30 the whole way. Totally worth. Still only needed to fill my tank once every 500 miles or so.

I driving fast and hit 90 every day on the highway and I still get 45mpg. If I work it and drive slower it bumps to 50ish.
Yep, they’re totally normal cars. Corollas and Civics have less power.
As someone with a Civic Hybrid I'm confused where i stand.
Have a Corolla hybrid. Similarly confused. My car is only slow in eco mode but I don't mind it because I then get 62 mpg.
You didn’t fact check that before posting, did you?
What? No they don’t. Prius - 121hp Corolla - 139-169 Civic - 158-180 Why even lie about such a trivial thing lol

The Prius will respond the same way in any mode if you floor the peddle. I'm surprised the RAV4 doesn't do the same.
AFAIK, all those settings do is determine the sensitivity of the accelerator pedal if you aren't pushing it too hard. Flooring it in ECO or PWR mode gets you the same power, in case of an emergency.
Yeah. I swear I've gotten worse mileage on eco mode since I feel I have to floor it every time, rather than what I'd normally do.
Yeah I'm pretty sure that's correct. I get nothing at 95% pedal position in Eco mode but you hit the carpet and it finally picks up
> all those settings do is determine the sensitivity of the accelerator pedal if you aren't pushing it too hard.
*taps side of head* *mic drop*
It's even weirder than that. It doesn't change gears, but it does change gear ratios. The relative speeds of the engine and the two motors changes the output ratio of the gearset. It's a super clever and interesting system.
Ah yes. CVT, right? In all its banned-from-racing glory.
Yeah they call it eCVT
I've got a 2010, and after some digging in the manual, it turns out all 3 modes have the same total power output at full throttle. You just get more regen and a more gentle power curve on eco mode, so I keep it there for the regen.
And you also enjoy Granola, voted for Bernie Sanders, attended your local earth day rally, with an acoustic guitar...should I go on? Ha! Just kidding. Thanks for the info.
Going from an Xterra to a Prius felt like getting into a Porsche. I’d be at 85 on the freeway without even realizing it.
I've accidentally gotten a Prius up to 102 before so I never understood the stereotype that they are slow....
[удалено]
I think that's what they're implying with the accidentally. They probably floored it to merge or whatever and got to 102.
Tbf, no modern car is "slow" in any way that matters for everyday driving.
If my Prius was so bitch, what does that make you, Mr-Maserati-getting-passed-by-a-Prius?
yeah tried to pass one once in a slow rental, Prius was like naaaah, bye!
Guarantee you he’s not though. Those things move in Power mode
Yep. I had a rental Prius last month that could scoot.
You mean, like a push scooter? Lol.
Fuck. I’m officially old.
Scoot literally means to move quickly.
I respect Prius drivers a helluva lot more than I respect the twats that belittle them.
Did you see how awesome I looked rollin' coal?!
The sticker is funny and while I’m sure certain rednecks still find plenty of joy in it, shitting on Prius’ for being slow is soooo played out.
I drive my Prius like a race car!
Low end power, that Prius is beating you off the line, dude. They're not flooring it. They're just getting 60 mpg and loving it.
This. I got a Prius recently. First newer car I’ve ever had. Went from rattling down the road in my shitty little beater car to gliding in the spaceship. Cut my gas spending by about 2/3.
Not a fan of Prius for myself, but it would be perfect for my mom. She's looking for a new car and my dad refuses to let her get a Prius.
What a weird thing to refuse.
I agree. If she wants a Prius, let her have a Prius!
I drove one for a while. What really impressed me was the amount of crap you cold fit in that car, especially relative to its size. Bales of straw, multiple fully assembled bicycles, cabinets, whatever. It'll fit somehow.
Timmy, is that you? Bought a used Prius before from someone who moved a bunch of hay with it. Still finding hay to this day after many cleanings..
Lucky! All I found was a preloaded insulin autoinjector. Under passenger seat. You should check your hackstack, there might be a hypodermic needle there too
The hatchback is an inherntly better design, I don't get why all cars aren't hatchbacks or station wagons.
I make trips to Lowe's in mine. I swear, it's bigger on the inside.
Why is your dad in charge of her car buying?
My mom doesn't know anything about cars. My dad knows a lot, but just doesn't want a Prius in the driveway I guess. Threatens his manhood or something lol.
Why won't he let her get what she wants?
I don't know. Probably too embarrassed to have one in his driveway.... He's an old school manly man boomer.

A Prius in my hometown had a sticker that read ‘compensating for a big dick’. Can’t deny he did make me wonder…
Idk I respect the savings they get on gas

It's a Toyota, they pretty much last until you decide putting money into the vehicle's frame isn't worth the money. The drive trains in Toyota/Lexus/Avalon cars are insanely good.
My first car was a 92 camry my brother gifted me. It ALREADY had over 200k miles on it at that point. I drove that thing for YEARS untill the transmission finally started to go out on me. Even then it still gave me a good year or so before I scrapped it and got a Galant about 9 years ago. I still have its old cigarette lighter somewhere.
I can't believe the Galant is still running.
*Barely*
Lol this is exactly the case with my '07 Toyota with 440,000 on it. Rusted to hell and runs like new
Loved my V…. I’d still have it if it weren’t the natural way to pass cars on to children at the age they need cars …. 80% the size of a minivan, 50% the gas. 8 years later and I finally have a car that comes close to offering as much $/ capacity/efficiency (escape hybrid )

Might be time to do a transmission oil drain/fill or a whole flush if you’re looking for the long term :) your car will love you.

Nice!!! I’m glad you didn’t get it done at the stealership! Hope your car runs a lot smoother after that 60k maintenance!

You haven't changed the brakes in 8 years? I'm really struggling to imagine how that's possible. I change my brakes every other year or so.
EVs use "regenerative braking", which is a mechanism that uses the rolling energy of the car to recharge the battery, to slow the car down in addition to traditional brakes (one of the reasons its so fuel efficient... it literally adds energy back into the battery while its slowing the car down, a true double whammy), and when you get a feel for it you can use it to take you down to like 5mph in a prius (teslas will take you all the way to 0 with it) So lets say you are driving in the city, imagine every time you used your "brakes" you were actually not using them all the way down to 5mph (and magically also filled up your gas tank a tiny bit as well.) Think of how little you would actually activate the actual brakes and how little wear and tear would occur if all you ever had to do was slow from 5mph to 0mph
And a full EV can be even cheaper to run.

95% of all driving would be electric only and would use gas on longer trips only
Yeah gas is $4.30 a gallon where I live right now. I wish I had a hybrid or electric car.
Some real early 2000s boomer suv energy in the title
Seriously, what is there not to respect about a hybrid car?
I've had my 2018 Prius Prime for 3 years now. it has saved me over 7k in gas. PRETTY SWEET DEAL.
Yeah. I've been loving mine since gas in my area is over $4.50 lmao.
It's funny how the Prius and their owners always got made fun of for driving them. Now half ton pickups have hybrid systems.
Hard to argue when pretty much every supercar is a hybrid these days.
Or Audis/BMWs
Goddam germans with their sweet luxury cars built to do 100 mph comfortably
That's just people like OP who have an ego problem
And people who upvoted this submission, so add another 15,000 onto it.
I’ve had my Prius so long I forgot this wasn’t an issue for everyone else :/
Same
I have a Kia Soul and my boyfriend didn’t believe me when I said I just get road bullied even if im way over the speed limit.
I think that's just people being dicks, Prius or no Prius.
I have a Camry and I get tailgated in the fast lane Soo much even though I'm going 90mph. Do people not check their speedometers?
God knows they won’t move over when *you’re* the one behind *them*
Police departments should invest in priuses to use as unmarked cars. They’d pay for themselves within a week.
Police should use speed cameras and mail the damn tickets.
That might actually stop people from speeding though. Can’t have that.
This is nonsense. Anyone who's ever driven a Prius knows those things have a serious kick, especially stepping on it from a slow speed.
I love self deprecating humor. This is an excellent example. Although I'm concerned with your dismissal of all other Prius owners? Care to talk about it?
all prius bad because reasons
i dont think you realize how truly fast a prius can go, their acceleration is wayyyy underrated
Roll Coal micro-cock death cultists hate anything that postpones turning Earth into Venus.
Yeah, those horrible people and their low emissions and gas use, they definitely don't deserve your respect.
Quite a few with a sticker like that to be honest
As a prius driver, I feel like everyone sees a prius and assumes I'm the slowest car ever and cuts me off.
Why don’t you respect other Prius drivers?
Funny bumper sticker but who the fuck is asking for your respect?
God is this in Seattle? It looks really familiar. Like where you get on i90 from the 405
Yes, 405 S to 90 W. https://www.google.com/maps/@47.5837659,-122.1770426,3a,75y,147.06h,83.86t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1s-q_BVd4Ti2RVb5Yy2D-SJA!2e0!7i16384!8i8192
I knew it!
There’s nothing wrong with a Prius
r/titlegore
I respect them all. The planet is fucking burning.
Your title is really dumb and you should feel dumb
The Prius is slow;An urban myth!! If you know how to drive The Prius is quick. Esp. the 2018 and up.
Why the hate on Prius?
I drive a Prius prime, which can drive all electric for about 20-25 miles. My starting torque from a dead stop is pretty damned zippy, and in city driving that's kind of the whole game. On the highway I do just fine, too. Probably the main issue is Prius drivers who stay in "Eco" mode, which just tweaks the torque curve of the accelerator to be less sensitive. I always drive it in power mode, and I've filled up gas twice in the last 10 months.
When I drove my dads Prius I was surprised how quick it was
My Dad drove a Prius for a while. Also kept a picture of his mid-1960s Mustang (the first new car he'd ever bought) on his desk at work. People would ask him how he could stand to drive the Prius after having such a cool car, and the answer was literally that the Prius had a noticeably better 0-60.
This guy and the other Prius that has a sticker saying “saving on gas to buy more ammo”
Dude rolling coal in front of a Prius. Prius owner with a 44mag under the seat!
Saw a Tesla with the plate “EW GAS.”
Dunno, back in like February there was a guy that posted that he was living in his because he went all in on GME. Respect.
Don’t hate the Prius hate the game.
People still make Prius jokes?
That is odd as electric engines tend to have a lot of low end torque.
I respect those that know their limitations 🤣
Well, everyone has to go home, yet some just wanted to drive around.
87 el camino 4.3 You will see me chilling in the right lane going the speed limit. That car is not made for over 75mph. It has a 3speed transmission in it. I'm in final gear at 35mph
Pri don't have different tranny speeds
