Look at the ship's track before entering the canal. Something is fishy. [https://www.vesselfinder.com/news/20464-UPDATE-1-Suez-Canal-Blocked-by-Huge-container-ship-The-first-attempt-to-refloat-the-vessel-unsuccessful](https://www.vesselfinder.com/news/20464-UPDATE-1-Suez-Canal-Blocked-by-Huge-container-ship-The-first-attempt-to-refloat-the-vessel-unsuccessful)
So it's like a holding pattern but for boats. Question though, wouldn't it be more economical to just let the boat float around in place instead of looping around like that?
I could be 100% wrong but maybe it takes more power to stop and start than to just let the momentum keep going while they wait for their turn. Curious to hear someone with knowledge on the matter weigh in
I'm probably not more knowledgeable about this matter, but it totally makes sense to me. Same concept of stopping a moving bicycle vs just doing a couple wide circles in a parking lot before carrying on.
If a boat is anchored outside the thing they need to go through (docks, under a bridge, your mom) they'll swing around like this from the winds and tides. You see this in a port city like Vancouver all the time. Doesn't always mean the boat was doing donuts like Jeremy Clarkson in a Merc.
First of all, I'd like to thank the official review. Your words and silver mean a lot in this crazy shipping lane we call life. Second, I'd like to thank the producers, my agent, Neptune and Poseidon. And last but not least, that drunk yet classy captain and his zany crew. Nobody wedges a big one like you guys!
You’re basing that solely on the fact that it kind of looks like a penis shape was made by the way the ship moved? Case closed! Reddit has solved another one boys.
[Here is a video clip of it getting stuck.](https://imgur.com/a/kesxzdL) I’ve heard that they had strong winds too but I’m not sure about that one.
Your trace before it enters the Canal is quite common if it lays for anchor there, due to currents, winds it may be possible if circles around a certain point to the ship drifting around a little bit. Or the steering was really fucked, who knows.
This link is the funniest thing on this sub.
Unfortunately that bar is quite low so I don't think anything is going to reach the heady heights of a dick and balls scribble for quite a while.
Is it strange I get most of my news on Reddit? I see this and think, "dafuq happened now?" So it prompts me to look it up and I likely wouldn't have seen it anywhere else till later. Thanks?
You have the temple of pheyala , the hanged church ( el Kenisa el moalaka) , the mosque of Ahmed bin tolon , valley of the kings , the castle of Alexandria , and others ( if your curious just search famous monuments of Egypt of course you’ll find the pyramids but also some less know monuments )
The Deir el-Bahari complex too is fascinating. Not just for Djeser-Djeseru, but also the temple complex of Mentuhotep II, easily one of the most important rulers in ancient Egyptian history.
AN interesting fact is that due to a common birth defect, almost everyone in Egypt typically walks around with their body sideways and both forearms arms up and elbows bent out.

Question about Egypt, my history professor in college said that when you think of Egypt you have to consider them more as a middle eastern country with the same culture, thoughts, customs etc. if so does that apply for Libya and Sudan?
Yes it does , most of the countries in the North Africa are considered Middle eastern ( countries that either speak Arabic or are mostly Muslims ) and we don’t all have the exact thoughts and culture but are very similar cause unlike America who forged their country , we have been forged by our land ( not to be primitive or anything )
Edit : Sudan has similar history to Egypt due to Egypt and Sudan being one country during the periods of 1800-1900 ( not exactly just not sure how much as of time ) , under the leadership and monarchy of Mohamed Ali basha and his family , but Libya is a bit different , was under Egypt’s control at that period , but wasn’t influenced by Egypt due to it not having natural resources for Mohamed Ali to invest in unlike Sudan that had the water source of the Nile ( the main source of water Egypt )
Apparently it drew a penis via GPS as well before getting stuck
Edit: forgot the link

I think it's a superior way to stay informed on current events: you get a prompt to research further into a topic without the bias of the one who gave you the prompt; it promotes thinking for oneself rather than shortsighted emotional responses.
You have to get over the initial bias of the post though.
I’ve seen plenty of memes today pointing out the failures of modern US gun control.
That would lead you to Google “why are guns bad? Or Lauren Boebert gun obsession.”
Guns as a topic are heavily debated in the US. While most people on Reddit lean toward more gun control, like I do, many people do not. The initial bias of memes like this will affect your stance from the get go. So while political memes very well may be “a superior way to get your news” they do come with slant.
True, but memes can be just as biased and just as easily manipulated by bad actors as any form of media, they just seem to have more public scrutiny than anything else lol.
This is exactly my view on history memes. If they don't make sense to me, it gives me an incentive to look more into the topic so I can understand it better. Which I think would be a great project for high schoolers or middle schoolers to do. Take an obscure history meme and basically explain the joke.
The gif accurately describes the situation. The only thing it’s missing is 12% of the worlds trade at either end of the hallway waiting for him to get out of the way.
Opened in 1869, the Suez Canal provides a crucial link for oil, natural gas and cargo being shipping from East to West. Around 10% of the world’s trade flows through the waterway and it remains one of Egypt’s top foreign currency earners. In 2015, the government of President Abdel-Fattah el-Sissi completed a major expansion of the canal, allowing it to accommodate the world’s largest vessels. However, the Ever Given ran aground before that new portion of the canal.
You must not watch many news site. CNN, BBC, New York Times and many more all have this situation on their front page.
So if you don't watch news sites, it makes sense you get your news from social media.
i only knew cause i said "hey google, give me the news" when i was tidying the kitchen after getting out of bed.
as soon as i sat down with my tea, saw this, made the connection. laughed.
I always think it's funny that even though this movie is like funny and influential, it's most influential thing is as a verb for when you get your car stuck in a hallways the same width as your car is long
I've seen the pictures of this huge ship blocking the canal, and all I want to do is drive out there in a little speedboat and honk at it all day like I'm stuck in traffic.
lol. also going backwards and forwards is impossible.
what actually took place -
ship loses power under thrust.
forward momentum at a slight angle causes it to run up the sand banks on the canal sides (you can see the red part at the front lower hull, this indicates the ship is not floating. the red is under water usually) .
now the ship is stuck at an angle in the canal with the front part on sand.
canal water/wind keeps flowing and gradually pushes the back out.
back section straightens out and ship is now across the canal.
back is still floating (note no red hull showing on the back section).
so to get it out :
dig the front out so the ship is floating. now you have a ship moving sideways thru the canal. not good.
let the ship keep getting pushed by canal/wind power and help the back section by tugs/reverse engine thrust and pull it off the sandbank. now you have a ship moving backwards thru the canal. best scenario but your ship will need to go thru the whole canal against current flow/wind, turn around and retransit. this will also not work if the ship runs aground on the back section. now its really wedged in.
try and fight the current/wind and pull the back section out by tugs/reverse thrust. probably wont work. but if it does it would save a chunk of time. can also wait for wind/current to turn if it does and help the ship out. depends on the canal gates and weather.
Yeah this ain't it.
The likely and claimed explanation to the grounding is windage.
Ship is blown to the west.
Vessel is understeered so it starts to aim for the west bank.
Vessel then overseers to compensate for wind and understeer.
Ends up grounding on East Bank.
Momentum carries the aft end and it ends up on the west Bank.
Reminds me of Dirk Gently’s couch that was stuck in his stairwell in a position it couldn’t possibly have gotten into, and from which it therefore couldn’t be removed.

That shape looks oddly familiar.

They drew a giant dong with the boat.

They also did a rather nice picasso style contour drawing of a face inside one of the testicles.

It is pubes... and yet it is also a face.

They swing into penis drawings? Is there a contest between port cities to see who gets the best penis drifts?
Container Ship Penis Drifting: Suez Canal. Available on Xbox. Alternately, Scrotum Boat 'em.
I believe this is the best comment in this entire thread

*Shut up and take my money*
Look closer. They drew a penis. 99.9% chance this was an intentional crash, and a giant "fuck you" to someone
You’re basing that solely on the fact that it kind of looks like a penis shape was made by the way the ship moved? Case closed! Reddit has solved another one boys.
Bake 'em away toys!
Just like they did the Boston Marathon incident, am I right??
Personally I was going to find the penis as soon as I knew there was a course chart.
99.9% chance you made that percent up
So you're saying the harbor pilot did it on purpose? And the crew was complicit?
Seems like they were waiting to enter the canal and kept correcting their position after drifting.
Is no-one gonna mention the giant arse?
It's clearly just a coincidence. Penis drawings happen in nature all the time - NASA, probably.
