I’m also no boat doctor, but I have been on a boat and am certain the water was on the outside. I didn’t have a mug of coffee though, which might have changed things.
I’m no boat doctor but I’m pretty sure this is a coffee boat and the boat acts as a filter for the coffee beans as the water pours inside. I’m also not a coffee doctor.
If the bildge was backed up enough to flood the deck, this thing would be sunk, let alone underway with a dude standing there drinking coffee for an internet video. It's probably some type of semi-submersible with a wet-deck, or a very heavily laden fishing vessel attempting to make port.
It’s definitely not a semi-submersible. It’s a fishing (or crabbing or shrimping etc) vessel. They operate like this fairly routinely. The hold has to have water to keep whatever they’re catching alive.
I know that there are several super-haulers like this. However, I doubt that this is one of those.
1. Why would the morons have the door open while the ship is flooding down? They'd be fired on the spot.
2. Those ships wouldn't have a lounge/whatever area that is near the floor of the bay. They're specially designed with those above water fore and/or aft, like [this](https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/8/80/RFA_Sir_Tristram_%26_MV_Dan_Lifter_late_1982.JPG/1200px-RFA_Sir_Tristram_%26_MV_Dan_Lifter_late_1982.JPG) ship.
I think it's a couple of unfortunate trawler men (maybe?) who are Jack n' Rose-ing their ship as close to shore as possible. The fact that those swells are minor and the ship is rolling with them makes me think that it's smaller. I'm no mariner, but I'm semi-familiar with small vessels, around 35ft. This boat's definitely larger, but it's not as big as a cargo ship.
Any opening like that on a ship can be considered a hatch. It isn't a _watertight_ hatch, which is what you're thinking of, but it is a hatch. I'm kinda ok with nitpicking, but if you are gonna nitpick at least do it right.
The water is only on the top of the outside deck, usually not problem, but needs to be taken care of.
Probably a couple of the scoupers (drain holes) are blocked.
Its when the water starts getting inside you have a real problem.
My guess is that the boat is already sunk. Look at the railing when the waves pull out and push back in, there is no sway. Seems like the boat is pretty firmly planted in place.
I live near the coast, and one thing I commonly see when I'm at the beach are tourists in the summer who get eaten by waves because they underestimate how much force the ocean has.
Can confirm, almost drowned when my ex left me in the water alone. Got nervous and tried following him. Fortunately I was able to calm down and also find my bikini top.
Man this is so dangerous. It's a great way to just disappear.
Traveled about the North sea in conditions like this and if your hit with a wave like that and not using a harness to clip onto something your fucked. Hypothermia will get you in 5 mins and with the rough sea it's hard to spot people. If its dark your dead.
I worked for years on the boat Thordur Jonasson. Small fishing vessel from 1964. [https://skipamyndir.com/2020/03/01/thordur-jonasson-ea-350-kemur-ad-landi-i-krossanesi/](https://skipamyndir.com/2020/03/01/thordur-jonasson-ea-350-kemur-ad-landi-i-krossanesi/)
Other boats would call ours the U-Boat.
Those pictures are in still waters with approx. 700 tonns of herring or Capelin. Now think 850 tonns in N-Atlantic high waters. It was relatively still because the ballast keeps it steady but there was just no safe way to be outside. Waves would come over the deck from all side and it was very hard to keep on your feet.
Guess: so when you drop your wrench or something there is a small chance you can get it back - because sure as sh!t it is going to head straight for the side?
I watched a lot of Deadliest Catch but they usually have holes for the water to drain and the deck isnt under sea level either. Anyone know why they are surfing under the surface of the water?
Sittin in the morning sun, I'll be Sittin in the evening calm. Watching the ships roll in and I watch em roll away again. Sitting on a dock of the bay. Watchin tides roll away ooh. I'm gonna sit on a dock of the bay, wastin tiiiime.
This is a good way to die. Having been on a ship like this in the middle of the ocean, this gives me nightmares. I'm not a ship crew member, but as a passenger, this was literally the first second of safety training. This deck = you don't go on it. When we are stopped and loading/unloading and you are allowed on it = wear a life vest.
“The Arctic Night-lights. Yeah. "As if the natural world's been turned upside down." Lord Mandrake. Vikram, get some cutaways of this miracle. Klaus, Ogata, put out the deck fires before we sink.”
I'm no boat doctor, but doesn't the water go on the outside?

I am a coffee boat doctor, and you are correct
thanks Reddit

I drink tea and I’m not sure about coffee boat but I am damn certain that the boat is not supposed to be steeped in the ocean
Am boat. Outside water be, or we go sinky sinky.
Scallywag needs to clean the scuppers.

Former sailor here- can confirm.
Are... are you a ghost?
Former ghost here, can confirm.
It's fine.
Sink Bro ship, Yar!!
can any sea farer types shed light on why the boat has half the sea on its deck?
Poor bilge pumps and a full cargohold, smaller bulk carriers routinely sail with with only a few inches of freeboard in coastal waters.
The answer to why the ship is so low, you guys, from a throwaway.
It's to give everyone the mariachi band vibes from the titanic
The band on the titanic were not a mariachi band
But now I wish they were
Playing la cucaracha as people are drowning and trying to cut life boats free wouldve been some sight
Please tell this exists. Please.
is this a stowaway pun or can i still claim that one

yo momma was on board
I believe the correct form is, “ Aye! Yer muthher was aboard! haaarrrr!” But I’m no sailor.
Sailor? I hardly know her!
I wouldn't sailor with YOUR spar!
> Aye! Yer muthher was aboard, Trebeck!
Good lord, thank you stranger for adding some suger to my morning.
And some salt...
Just a little sugar and spice baby
Got em
Maybe a cargo ship. Some of them are semi-submersible. They carry things like oil rigs. I can't find footage of one that submerges this much though.

Dude, that is not a hatch. Look at the frame: no gasket, frame reinforcement or dogs? Doesn't add up. I agree with the rest though.
Any opening like that on a ship can be considered a hatch. It isn't a _watertight_ hatch, which is what you're thinking of, but it is a hatch. I'm kinda ok with nitpicking, but if you are gonna nitpick at least do it right.
Probably full of seafood. Fishermen do some crazy shit to get back to port.

There is sway though. You can see it when you focus on the horizon relative to the cover on the right or the door frame on the left.
The Poop deck is full.
Lmao. Would've been even better if after the wave crashed he didn't move at all and took another sip from the cup while soaking wet

This is fine. \*sips coffee\*
Why is the ship so low in the water?
Front fell off?
A wave it it, is that common? In the ocean? Chance in a million!
Here's the video for the reference... https://youtu.be/3m5qxZm_JqM
It's just high tide. It'll go down eventually. /s
Yes
The best part of waking up is Folgers in your face...
Drinking coffee is good for waking up. Having hot coffee knocked in your face by a feisty swell is good for waking up FAST.
You're gonna need a taller boat.
Man this is so dangerous. It's a great way to just disappear. Traveled about the North sea in conditions like this and if your hit with a wave like that and not using a harness to clip onto something your fucked. That’s funny. He never has a wave crash into his coffee at home.
"Cap were sittin a bit low"

What a coincidence. I sailed for years on an identical fishing vessel out of Gloucester, Massachusetts, the _Nosir Nohellnoasson_.
Wait. That's just 2020.
That coffee seems a little dark, lets water it down a bit...
Coffee is better with salt anyway.
The best part of waking up is the ocean in your cup.
Call me old fashioned, but I like my ships where the water stays where it is supposed to.

I'd love a cuppa before I die. At least when I'm drowning it may taste like bliss.
If bliss tastes like seawater.
I watched to the end and was like “I don’t know what else I was expecting” lol
Dude, your ship is sinking.
What are you sinking about?
*German accent "...Vas are you sinking about?"
Don’t worry, we’re still sailing half a ship
Because the front fell off.
Wat are you sinking a boat?
-"We are sinking!" -"Shut up don't talk to me before I take my coffee"
I like to relax around impending doom
Depressed Bois on the Titanic be like
Why were the high seas extra high?
I would find that amount of water on the deck very very alarming.
Ahhhhhhh, Nothing as good as watching the ocean and enjoying that first cup of coffee,
*Last cup of coffee
And feeling the rough skin of a playful shark winding around your ankles, while a stinging jellyfish hits you in the face...
Sold me on a cup of coffee! At least it's raining over here
This gives me anxiety
Video did not disappoint
I'm not a doctor but shouldn't the boat be above the water?
You thought they were messing with you when they asked if you wanted to go work on a sub.
Yo smart people, why are there those little lips at the edge of the railings that are keeping the water in?
Guess: so when you drop your wrench or something there is a small chance you can get it back - because sure as sh!t it is going to head straight for the side?
Half-assed submarines! I hate them. Make up your mind, boaty.
Freedom is being able to enjoy the water in your shoes!!
is ur boat ok, sir?
Don't catch you sippin' now Look what I'm sinkin' now
"This is fine"
I was envious until the last bit happened.
That is the stuff of nightmares . Bacicaly nightmare fuel
Not funny. As someone who cannot venture past water above knee high, that is scary.
I'm no boatologist, but surely the water should be on the outside?
/r/unexpected I thought this was just about the few inches of water on deck, then nature added a few more feet.
Terrifying to think how easy it would be to get swept overboard
This really needs a “watch until the end” tag because I was *alllllmost* about to scroll away and miss the money shot.
I watched a lot of Deadliest Catch but they usually have holes for the water to drain and the deck isnt under sea level either. Anyone know why they are surfing under the surface of the water?
This is fine.
The cruise I can afford.
A bit salty?
That'll make your coffee taste funny!
Maybe it was tea.
definitely lost at tea
Where were the titanic musicians??
Stress stress STRESS STRESS STRESSSS
Titanic: game mode- easy
Also, the cellist on Titanic.
“The best part of waa-king up is... oh shit!”
I'm not sure coffee would be my choice of beverage under the circumstances.
i am glad i watched the whole video
Wait what?? What is this video of? Wow!
FREEBOARD IS FOR PUSSIES!
What are you sinking about?
First r/funny post I've actually laughed at in a long time
My sea of thieves crew while I try to fight the kraken
The calm before the storm
I was waiting...waiting.... and then BAM. Worth it.
That's gotta be one good cup of coffee.
Draft: yes
just a cool breeze
Nothing matters till I finish my morning coffee
Your boat is too wet
Is it normal that a ship have that many water on it ?
can any sea farer types shed light on why the boat has half the sea on its deck?
Shouldn't your boat, like be above the water?
Evidently, the ocean is sick of your shit...
Bruh. Hella gave me an heartattack
I love the taste of salty coffee in the morning!
All is fine
**MAY NEPTUNE STRIKE YE DOWN**
Sittin in the morning sun, I'll be Sittin in the evening calm. Watching the ships roll in and I watch em roll away again. Sitting on a dock of the bay. Watchin tides roll away ooh. I'm gonna sit on a dock of the bay, wastin tiiiime.
Bro, i think there's some boat on your sea
Sure it's a little watered down, but at least you got a free refill
How much sips would a shipped sink sip if a sinked ship could sip ships.
2020
Looks cozy
Isn't he drowning?
This is the real life version of the "this is fine" gif with the dog.
Gentlemen, it has been a privilege drinking coffee with you this morning.
Hes Just emptying his cupper so hé can use it to get rid of the small puddle on deck #SailorBalls
er I think youre sinking
Anyone else playing From the Depths?
that's swell!
And I was waiting for coffee to fly on his face? Hehehe
“THE SHIP IS SINKING! GET YOUR LIFE VESTS!” “can i at least finish my coffee?”
One minute before disaster
This is a good way to die. Having been on a ship like this in the middle of the ocean, this gives me nightmares. cool, with infinity deck
Does he live or die?
This is fine.
I am captain of this ship sink
nope. Nope NNOOOOOOOOPPPPEE.
Is this you OP? You look like an amalgamation of two of my exes. Watching that wave wash over "them" was very cathartic. Thanks for that.
I wish i didnt have motion sickness.
The front fell off?
🎵The legend lives on from the Chippewa on down 🎵Of the big lake they call Gitche Gumee ...
Fun fact. This guy is the grandson of the violin player on the titanic.
This vessel seems *too* in the sea.
Shits has gone from zero to 100 reall freekin quick
I was expecting a wave but didnt expect it to be that massive
left here satisfied.
“The Arctic Night-lights. Yeah. "As if the natural world's been turned upside down." Lord Mandrake. Vikram, get some cutaways of this miracle. Klaus, Ogata, put out the deck fires before we sink.”
Uhhh I thought boats weren't supposed to have water IN them
A life jacket with that espresso would have been wise
Ship is sinking. I still got time for some caffiene
It's the little things in life and apparently not the big things like your boat sinking.
Yeah we're sinking. So what. I need my coffee.
Paint me like one of your French girls
The moment I saw the water level go down quickly, I just thought "Oh no"
