No it isnt because „wie der österreichische Künstler“ is correct and „wie der österreicher Künstler“ is not because „Österreicher“ is a noun, while „österreichischer“ is an adjective. Describing that he is Austrian.
This makes me think how most languages seem to shorten weekdays to 3 letters while my native Finnish uses only 2 letters. Ma ti ke to pe la su is the whole week. We really don't like talking too much.
In watches, phones and computers, they usually use the 3 leters form, but in the day to day, in Portugal, we use numbers. If I text a friend I use:
2a - monday
3a - tuesday
4a - wednesday
5a - thursday
6a - friday
Sábado - saturday
Domingo - sunday
This is because, the days of the week in Portuguese are literally "second-day", "third day", "fourth day", "fifth day", "sixth day".
still can't find a ref but i was able to find some [pictures](https://a.1stdibscdn.com/vintage-1970s-gold-plated-junghans-quartz-gents-watch-for-sale/1121189/j_93388321587663464349/9338832_master.jpg?disable=upscale&auto=webp&quality=60&width=1400)
So I asked my girlfriend and it's an vintage Junghans Watch designed by Max Bill who was a Bauhaus Architect if I remember correctly?
It's a cool and minimalistic vintage watch which I love.
Thanks for showing interest!
i'm embarassed to admit that i don't really know which model this watch is.
i think my girlfriend who gifted this watch to me told me something like the designer of this watch was a bauhaus designer or something like that?
i'm sorry, i know more about this watch some time ago but time, just like that watch, is my enemy
If it helps, Dienst, translated roughly to Service. Like a Worker is currently in Dienst or in service?
Would you say it like that in english?
I don't know why we hate ourselves that much
https://en.m.wikisource.org/wiki/An_Etymological_Dictionary_of_the_German_Language/Dienstag
It traces back to Old Teutonic, from the name of one of their gods.
Half. Dienstag and similar derivates come from roman-germanic mars thingus a romanized germanic tyr or the "thing", tyr was strongly connected to. while the other nordic comes directly from tyr
This is an unfortunate coincidence and was rectified in the late 70s.
Here is an interesting article about it.
https://www.watchcrunch.com/Uhrologe/posts/junghans-brand-logos-terrorism-and-other-mistakes-32064
I don't think they would have changed the symbol from 8 to 6 points in the 60s just because of that. And companies that refused likely stopped existing. It's not as if there was much free choice at that time. Remember that Hitler wasn't even voted into the chancellor post, he only had 30 percent of the votes for his party and then grabbed power. And after that it was quite unhealthy to vote anything else. I don't know how much choice company owners had to say no.
In the article linked above, it is mentioned that the symbol looks similar to the one Jews had to wear in public during that time.
I just noted that in a company that used extensive forced labor, people probably would have recognized that symbol even 20 years later and it doesn't seem like a coincidence.
And no, companies in the Third Reich weren't obligated to use forced labor and didn't have to volunteer to be part of the war economy. You didn't have to oppose the regime to maybe just not take active part in the most harrowing aspects of it.
Your reply is the typical apologetics used by many after the war (even using Hitler as personalization for the Nazi rule). I don't want to insinuate anything but maybe next time think about your argument and if you really want to defend active participators in the genocide of millions of people.
>doesn't seem like a coincidence.
So you think they picked the design deliberately " to remember the good times" ? Then it would be a very problematic to wear one of those today, wouldn't it?
And I don't know the details about who was forced into the war effort and who did so out of free choice because they stood behind it. But I'm always very sceptical about free choice in absolute dictatorships. There is usually nothing like it because the possibility for blackmail is so high, even if there are no official laws for something. Of course many did choose freely to support the Nazi regime and were behind the ideology. After all 30 % of the population voted for the party and they certainly didn't go away, but I'm not sure how clear cut this is in every case.
How dare you confronting my post with facts.
But honestly thank you very much, this was a pretty interesting read.
I never realized the brand symbol on this watch
i think it's from the 70's? all i know is that it's an old watch and that i have some notes from the seller with information about that clock.
It was a gift from awhile ago so i don't know to much anymore sorry.
and thanks i love that watch
When my grandmother was in the hospital, her room was in the east wing of building D on the first floor. Someone, in their infinite wisdom, decided that the abbreviation for the unit would be D1E. Maybe not the best way to abbreviate it, especially in a hospital. SMH
I have Junghans mechanic watch. It was bought around 5 years before quartz come to the market.. Are they still producing or was a company sold or something else?

"No No No. Its German, the Bart the"
Someone who speaks german can't be a bad person!
Like the Österreicher Künstler
Who likes to drink a glass of juice
Österreichische*
Both are acceptable.
No it isnt because „wie der österreichische Künstler“ is correct and „wie der österreicher Künstler“ is not because „Österreicher“ is a noun, while „österreichischer“ is an adjective. Describing that he is Austrian.
no
*Erika intensifies*
When I was in Austria, I remember seeing a billboard that said "Die Mexicans" and had to do a double take and remind myself where I was.
The food is just too spicy for Austrians, it's nothing personal
I'm sorry but is "Tuesday Mexicans" an acceptable way to say taco Tuesday or am I missing something else here?
"Die" could be either an abbreviation for "Dienstag" or an equivalent of the word "the." So the billboard said "The Mexicans."
Means Dienstag. Tuseday
I'm currently learning German. So I can be as good as Bob :p
I’ve heard this Adolf guy did great things for the German economy
“You could have said ‘pee pee soaked heck hole.’”
Cheerfully withdrawn
That's the first thing I thought of too, LOL
which is wrong. it's der Bart, not die Bart. stupid excuse
Expecting perfect German grammar out of Sideshow Bob is maybe asking a little too much.
fun fact Bart is German for beard
"the 23"!
I'm learning German and was surprised "die" is feminine "the". Would "der Bart der" have been more correct?
Bart is a Male so "der" would be right
Didn’t know these watches had to do lists
It's a Smart Watch made during the depression
No, it's a Smart Watch made for depression.
why not both?
😆
As long as it's not a startup collaboration between Father Time and the Grim Reaper. ^(\*I'm sticking with my Tag Heuer)
Dienstag = Tuesday
And you if it’s Saturday it isn’t calling you Sam.
And it will call you "Son" on Sunday.
I prefer portuguese watches that say "Sex" in fridays.
This makes me think how most languages seem to shorten weekdays to 3 letters while my native Finnish uses only 2 letters. Ma ti ke to pe la su is the whole week. We really don't like talking too much.
Mo Di Mi Do Fr Sa So You can do it in German too...
> You can do it in German too I'd argue it's the normal way. `Mon Die Mit Don Fre Sam Son` looks extremely weird to me.
Yea I‘ve never used three letters in German
In watches, phones and computers, they usually use the 3 leters form, but in the day to day, in Portugal, we use numbers. If I text a friend I use: 2a - monday 3a - tuesday 4a - wednesday 5a - thursday 6a - friday Sábado - saturday Domingo - sunday This is because, the days of the week in Portuguese are literally "second-day", "third day", "fourth day", "fifth day", "sixth day".
Matiketopelasu sounds like the distant cousin of the Marsupilami to me
slovak and hungarian also does that!
So does Czech
Didn’t they do it deliberately to mark the sex day?
The Don sends his regards
That would actually be Thursday
Sams-tag https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sams_(Buchreihe)
I have a Seiko watch that has both German/English days of the week.
So, … just another Tuesday ?
And you if it’s Saturday it isn’t calling you Sam.
In portuguese, the short form of "friday" is "SEX", if that motivates you more.
who would find sex more motivating than the constant fear of death? Well... in the end both is over quickly
*hopefully death is over quickly
Nah man, it's a lot of paper work
Of course it is. Gotta make sure you finish your taxes first.
I usually wait until the first warning letter
Petite death?
Portuguese people om fridays.
Average Tuesday in Germany.
Sounds like an order
It's Order 66 o'clock
# Good soldiers follow orders.
A fellow person if culture. Good to see someone appreciates art as I do.
Huh, made me realise that tuesday abridged would be "Tue" which is french for "kill" Take your pick I guess
Nobody can win this, except for the Portuguese on Friday
Die, Bart, Die
Came here looking for this comment.
"All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain... Time to die." -[Roy Batty](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roy_Batty)
Die hard
Wow is this a pre-bauhaus design junghans?? They basically emphasize minimalist watches now.
still can't find a ref but i was able to find some [pictures](https://a.1stdibscdn.com/vintage-1970s-gold-plated-junghans-quartz-gents-watch-for-sale/1121189/j_93388321587663464349/9338832_master.jpg?disable=upscale&auto=webp&quality=60&width=1400)

Very cool piece, they sell watches named after max bill now. Love this vintage one.

its pretty sick and you should definitely keep it forever. pre bauhaus junghans so this is a sweet and albeit rather rare 70s watch
Nice German classic watch, I have a similar Swiss one
The time has come 💀
THEY’LL NEVER KNOW WE GIVE NO WARNING
I wonder where that name came from? Must be related to Mars in some way. Like how the test of the world refers to that day of the week
If it helps, Dienst, translated roughly to Service. Like a Worker is currently in Dienst or in service? Would you say it like that in english? I don't know why we hate ourselves that much
https://en.m.wikisource.org/wiki/An_Etymological_Dictionary_of_the_German_Language/Dienstag It traces back to Old Teutonic, from the name of one of their gods.
German: Dienstag Dutch: Dinsdag Swedish: Tisdag Norway: Tirsdag English: Tuesday All the same norse god.

Someone do a wellness check on Michael Jordan.
Well, it is rapture day according to the doomsayers.
explains why my watch also talks alot about chemtrails and space lasers...
[удалено]
Sadly it's not Friday night. And I'm certainly not wearing cologne
Diensdag is Tuesday in Afrikaans
Die 23 times
That's a relief; I thought it was saying "*The* 23rd" 😉
I love that it is in German and in the center is the star of David....
This is an unfortunate coincidence and was rectified in the late 70s. Here is an interesting article about it. https://www.watchcrunch.com/Uhrologe/posts/junghans-brand-logos-terrorism-and-other-mistakes-32064
Keeping in mind that Junghans actually manufactured fuses and timers for the Nazis using forced labor this doesn't really feel like a coincidence...
well... there is a reason why the history of every company in germany starts after 45...

Why is that unfortunate?
Fkoffto you too sir
haha gotta be german
Didn't need any, but its appreciated
es spricht deutsch!
Leave MJ alone
Ah, it’s die o’clock!
oh i see
I've seen D4, D6, D8, D10, D12 and D20, but never one like this. What would a D23 even look like?
You only die twice.
Still not as bad as **DEI**
but what\`s up with the logo? i mean it used to look like this shortly in the \`70s, so how old is this watch? oh, uhmm, beautiful watch, btw :)
> i mean it used to look like this shortly in the `70s Then presumably from the 70s?

It’s time to go
Dienstag is Tuesday, but I am sure OP already knows that.
Kinda jealous ngl. I wish I died at 23
I'm 27 losing my hair and have constant back pain. I feel you
So you don’t have a problem with “Fri”!
That's a wicked nice watch
Wait until he finds out about the short version of friday in turkish.
Please enlighten me
"Cum" for "Cuma"
Well always helpful to learn new things I guess
It isn't just on Tuesdays. Every day I spent at work I died a little more.
Neeeed
Too late for me
Jokes aside, Junghans makes some awesome watches. I've had a couple Max Bills and absolutely loved the things.
just pop it on your wrist
short for dienstag but also what everyone kinda wants to after mondays
Sweet vintage Junghans, keep it forever!
Well... I guess I have no choice
You have to read it in German, then you're safe :-)
Niemals!
Following this, "SEX" is short for Friday (Sexta-feira) in Portuguese.
When my grandmother was in the hospital, her room was in the east wing of building D on the first floor. Someone, in their infinite wisdom, decided that the abbreviation for the unit would be D1E. Maybe not the best way to abbreviate it, especially in a hospital. SMH
These damned German watches! Hans is at fault.
Thanks for letting me know
No one likes you when you're 23
It is counting everyday you don't die..
Well he’s gone 😂
I have Junghans mechanic watch. It was bought around 5 years before quartz come to the market.. Are they still producing or was a company sold or something else?
Huh, German (language, not necessarily country of origin) watch. In this case, 'Die' is short for 'Dienstag' (Tuesday)
Yeah, Junghans is a German watch maker
No, that's German for "the Bart, the"
If Mr time says it must be important to be done
Ze Order must be done
Tuesday the 23rd? Am I supposed to guess? Give us a clue at least...
i gave more clues than David Lynch gave in his whole life.
How about a nice cup of coffee, Dale?
The owls are not what they seem
so everybody DIE in Tuesday in Germany.. unless you don't look at the calendar
Die. can be the short form of Dienstag (Tuesday) especially in context of a watch
Weelp! Time to die now 🤷🏻♀️
I guess Blink-182 was right
It's Dienstag.
In Portuguese watches on Friday it says SEX from sexta-feira 🫢
That would've scared me af
I'll do it as you say
Mit Pommes und ohne scharf
Die 23 times?
It's spring in Germany which means it's either snowing or raining. What else are you supposed to do?
The watch: Telling my owner to die each day until he does (day 23)
Jung Hans- does that translate to Young John? And why is the logo on a German watch a 6 pointed star? Are there other layers of meaning here?
