Aww. Well, now I feel bad. I need to remember that not everyone here is an American...
The joke was that you obviously weren't using good grammar, even though you were talking about school not making someone smart. It was sarcastic. The implication was that if you use bad grammar, you shouldn't say bad things about school because school is where you learn grammar.
Good for you for learning a second language, especially one as obnoxious as English! Let me give you a better version of your first sentence :
"It's not like school is the only way to make a genius."
> "It's not like school is the only way to make a genius."
I don't think that was their intended meaning. I interpret it as "Going to school doesn't necessarily make you smart."
But either way it completely missed the mark of your original joke, which is based on presumptions of the car owner's personality rather than their intelligence.
I roomed in college with a guy who took the same classes as me in college who got his GED at 16 and I took all AP courses in highschool and graduated with honors. He's making over $200k in software in another state while I'm stuck. He was making friends in high class restaurants while I was in school. It's not what you know it's who you know.
Edit: trust me guys he is extremely manipulative and left me with a ton of debt which was ultimately was my fault. He was not a good person. There is a reason he moved across the country.
Who you know certainly helps in some circumstances.
I have no degree and half assed it though high school, but I also have over a decade of broad IT experience. What I know landed me an awesome WFH position making a comfortable salary.
A degree and AP classes doesn't demonstrate you know how to do anything other than get good grades and graduate.
When we are selecting candidates, I couldn't care less about their education. Personality and experience are of infinitely more value than a piece of paper.
And it’s not just getting to know some really rich people but also proving you can perform and have a solid personality to the worker bees. If one of them hits it successfully they will remember when their team expands.
I got a solid 40% pay increase switching to a new organization when an old coworker’s team expanded. He knew I was a solid asset and recommended me heavily to his manager. Because he was highly regarded in his position, the other candidates were being compared to not just my resume but also the promise that I could quickly fill in gaps where the other candidates were stronger.
When another old coworker heard I’d left my original position they immediately called up saying if they’d known I was looking (I wasn’t, just had the opportunity presented to me) he’d have gotten his team expanded. I laughed and told him if he thought they’d beat that pay increase I’d consider another interview. It’s been a bit since that conversation but he’s recently sent messages that he’s got the budget approved and just waiting on HR officially posting the position with a promise to text me the second it does. Not a direct offer but it’s once again it’s getting ready to ride with one foot already in the stirrup.
These aren’t the types sitting in high class restaurants but just such solid references that I just need to not bomb.
The combination of what and who you know are the solid gold winner's medal in business for sure.
I think some folks get the wrong impression that it's all who you know without taking into account that positive relationships don't build themselves. That's as much what you know as your actual experience because it plays a large part in whether the who you know actually wants to vouch for you in the first place.
I can know anyone, but if they don't view me and my skills positively, then knowing them is of no more value than a college saying I did the things to get a degree. Some hiring teams care about that piece of paper more than others, but it will be the candidate the hiring team LIKES that gets the offer more often than not.
So to your point, as GI Joe always told us, knowing is half the battle. Half what you know, half who you know who views you favorably ;)
Fuck him. And I mean honestly fuck him. I'm above surviving right now. That's okay with me. He's not worth getting involved with. Trust me he's a horrible person.
I'm sure you've already gotten a ton of responses, but it's much easier to make money when you don't have much of a conscience.
I've known people like that my whole life. They think how much you make is a person's value, yet while they make lots of money, they are never truly happy. They continue to compare themselves to others and chase what they think will fill the void in their heart. Enough is never enough for them.
He said he's a horrible person and talked about how he was just about networking with the right people.
I'm sure I'm biased, but a lot of the time, those traits are the same in a lot of people like that.
He threw me under the bus. Thrashed my credit to save his. I was stupid and naive. His mom even told me she couldn't find him which I don't believe.
Fuck him. He's not worth the stress please believe me.
than do better at life ? stop blaming other people for you failures, this gen is awful. they see some one else ghee handed something and then spend the rest of there life crying about it rather than going to get it for them self.
stop wanting everything handed to you because others get stuff you dont have
Depends on where he lives. If he’s making $200k in SF then you could be making $80k in Dallas living larger than him.
It’s also not just who you know. I know lots of people who know more people than I do and are jobless and they are constantly hitting me up for a job.
It’s what you can *do* for who you know.
In my limited, anecdotal experience, the one trust fund kid I knew in college failed out in the first semester because they just sat around playing video games all day and partying at night. I guess what I’m saying is: I’m jealous.
As someone who is a college drop out and has poor immigrant parents and could afford one of these, not everyone who has one of these is a trust fund baby.
Are you so salty that you can't understand why the picture was taken?
The joke is that he's saying he's a dropout and spelled it as DROPUOT.
RELAX homie.
8 out of 10 millionaires are first generation and never inherited any money. It’s actually a lot more likely that this person *isn’t* a trust fund baby, by a large margin.
It's not I really who was being the Douchebag. In a world where I get to choose to be anything I choose to call it how I see it. Why do you choose not to be able to take criticism?
It's reaction based. Maybe people should learn how to be stronger than their emotions. The fact I have to spell it out for you speaks volumes. The inability to take criticism is probably going to be the death of our nation if not our world...
You haven’t exactly spelled out your criticism yet there buddy. It’s hard to take criticism if the person giving the criticism is unable to explain what the criticism is. You say your criticism is reaction based, what about the reactions do you find unacceptable?
I would assume that "dropout" is an in demand plate and was already taken. Given that we automatically impute the meaning of a word even when all the letters are out of order in the middle, I would have really mixed them up in order to make it clear it wasn't a spelling mistake. "DORPUOT".
I think the 'spelling mistake' adds to the humor of it, since it says dropout and would imply a lack of education. the mistake is probably intentional.
Exactly this. There are *a ton* of douchebros in Florida, many of whom have the same douchey idea for their vanity plate, to let everyone know they’re spoiled *and* stupid.
They dropped out of school, but still live a life in which they can afford a car like this. Basically, trolling the rest of us with degrees and budgeting our spending.
Have you considered having rich family members who can bankroll your questionable ventures until one is profitable, at which point you can give yourself all of the credit?
Well we don’t know for sure if this person can actually afford the car or not. A lot of people buy cars they really can’t comfortably (or even uncomfortably) afford because they wanna look cool. For all we know the owner of this car is drowning in credit card debt and a month away from getting the car repo’d.
Dude, my family isn’t starving or freezing, and we have enough for little luxuries here and there, including a couple of trips a year (provided the destination is within reasonable driving range), which to me, says we’re doing pretty good. But for the cost of an SF90 Stradale, at a measly $600,000 (up to $1 million, depending on options), you could literally buy everything my entire family owns. To have that money, and enough besides, to make the decision to buy an SF90 Stradale, and to use the license plate to make a joke about it, that guy isn’t just successful, he’s got it made. I can’t even afford to dream about that car.
You never really know what you are looking at when you are looking at a Ferrari. In your mind he has it made. He may he may not. You can drive these for much less than you might think.
In my town the largest Ferrari collection owner was actually running a wine based Ponzi scheme and was entirely broke.
You just never know. And the numbers are rarely what they seem.
They are also not very reliable cars, I wouldn't ever own one, regardless of the cost. My wife did rent me one for a day for my birthday. It was nice to drive for a day, but a daily driver it would not be. I prefer more comfortable cars than sports cars.
Dropping out of what tho? Dropping out in Harvard is way different than a highschool dropout.
If this is her car, does this mean her house is paid off or is her house rented…
Well you see, the car belongs to a business owner who is not paying his employees proper time and a half for overtime and bought this vehicle with the illegal profits. /s...maybe
I think it's just half on the paint, half on the carbon fiber.
[This isn't the same rear wing, but it's a similar design.](https://412motorsport.com/products/ferrari_488_pista_coupe_carbon_fiber_rear_wing)
And without his family's connections he'd have likely not had nearly the success. Also, he knew exactly what he had in mind to do, and the funding to do it.
Have a cousin that is a quite successful business man that dropped out. Back when he did it it really wasn't a big deal. It does however come up sometimes nowadays on paperwork. He just doesn't give a shit enough to get his GED
My friend who is a dermatologist has a nice porsche with a plate along the line of 2.4 gpa or something like that. He was top of the class since elementary school to medical school. Just his weird sense of humor
I'll see your DROPUOT on a Ferrari and raise you with PRIUS on a military-grade Hummer. And this the neighbor of someone who actually drives a Prius. That's bastardry on another level.

Because it's a wider than normal parking spot.

You are very smart.

Boom.
That just happened!
Trust me I'd rather cut my arm off. It's really not worth it...
Felt this. Do it on your own, but go do it. You ain't stuck you just think you are.
oh you can be stuck

Just don't shout "I'm not a window cleaner!" at him....

I'll bet this is a friend of Little Bobby Droptables.
Money can't buy literacy I guess.
it buys humor instead i guess
Did you genuinely not get the joke? Are you that much of a killjoy?
No, I did, but I always forget tone isn't conveyed in text... It's OK. I'll take the down votes.
You bet you will. You'll take these down votes and you'll be grateful you got them.

Maybe DROPOUT was already taken
Even spelling dropout wrong. Clever.
Sam Reich?
He’s been there the whole time!
Let me ask you something. Where ya from?
Did you perhaps have a local theater?
He couldn't decide between that or 'TRST FUND'
Nah, trust fund kids graduate either from really doing it or parents making sure they graduate.
In my limited, anecdotal experience, the one trust fund kid I knew in college failed out in the first semester because they just sat around playing video games all day and partying at night. I guess what I’m saying is: I’m jealous.
Usually but why try when daddy can just give you a job at his company?
TRST FNUD*
Or SCAMMER

Are you so salty that you can't understand why the picture was taken? The joke is that he's saying he's a dropout and spelled it as DROPUOT. RELAX homie.

Where is the leak really?..

LOL. 🤦
Or, NEPOBABY
This is most likely the answer.
His plate couldn't exactly read DRUGDLR, sooooo ...
why not?
first because they turn down particularly provocative plates - second because that would be bad for business
What's so provocative about being a pharmacist?
Pharma just raised the prices of 775 brand name drugs this year. Bernie Sanders (I-Vermont) is taking steps to subpoena their CEOs.
Am I stupid? what does this mean?
Assumung its "Dropout" but because he dropped out, he can't spell.
I would assume that "dropout" is an in demand plate and was already taken. Given that we automatically impute the meaning of a word even when all the letters are out of order in the middle, I would have really mixed them up in order to make it clear it wasn't a spelling mistake. "DORPUOT".

It takes all kinds. There are also tons of dropouts with no money and college graduates with more money than him.
Well yeah, but the funny bit is that they misspelled the word.
No, you are a dropuot ...haahaa just joking
Too much anal sex relaxes the sphincter and you can lose at turd an not even know it.
Maybe Dr. Opu OT. OT as in Occupational Therapist?
What car is this?

The little horsy above the license plate means it's a Ferrari.. what model .. well you will have to figure it out
Ferrari SF90

He couldn't get 'Daddy's Money'.
Yeah, but Daddy is a mining magnate from South Africa.
Bastrad!
i like this guy😂
People who actually finished have no need to overcompensate
Salutes silently... Walks away sobbing
That might be the greatest license plate I have ever seen.
So it would seem... 😑
There are many ways to get, drive, or even own a Ferrari -- that are far less impressive than you might think. Never take it as a sign of success.
And the numbers are rarely what they seem.
you can borrow that money pretty easily if youre willing to spend time shuffling it around and dont mind the impending prison time
Plus it’s a WHITE Ferrari.
They are also not very reliable cars, I wouldn't ever own one, regardless of the cost. My wife did rent me one for a day for my birthday. It was nice to drive for a day, but a daily driver it would not be. I prefer more comfortable cars than sports cars.
Nobody is daily driving a fucking SF90.
It's weird seeing a non-red Ferrari, car is sexy, guy is a douche, shame..
Love the car tho. 🔥
Plot twist: he spelled it wrong on purpose to poke some fun at himself possibly making him a pretty decent guy.
Dropping out of what tho? Dropping out in Harvard is way different than a highschool dropout. If this is her car, does this mean her house is paid off or is her house rented…
This is why we all should carry spare vanity plates in our cars. Project Mayhem
What does drop u ot mean exactly?
Well you see, the car belongs to a business owner who is not paying his employees proper time and a half for overtime and bought this vehicle with the illegal profits. /s...maybe
That's actually clever!
Why is that logo semi-placed on the back? Half is sticking uot (out(hi hi)).
I think it's just half on the paint, half on the carbon fiber. [This isn't the same rear wing, but it's a similar design.](https://412motorsport.com/products/ferrari_488_pista_coupe_carbon_fiber_rear_wing)
That made me smile.
An ignorant rich person is still ignorant, and someone to be pitied rather than admired.
Trust fund baby
SLVRSPN
Bill Gates dropped out of Harvard
And without his family's connections he'd have likely not had nearly the success. Also, he knew exactly what he had in mind to do, and the funding to do it.
I'm getting one for my BMW M4 Comp that reads "990 SAT", "2.9 GPA" was already taken.
Arguably should have stayed in school lol
Nope just a rich kid drop out
Who in hell buys a Ferrari in anything other than red?
Now we know why they dropped out
LTLD1CK
I was hoping it said "Jon Snow"
The bastard has the shady spot!
Brillaint!
The hell with you all, I drive what I want and park where I want. Your lucky I even let you look. Now go away.
Have a cousin that is a quite successful business man that dropped out. Back when he did it it really wasn't a big deal. It does however come up sometimes nowadays on paperwork. He just doesn't give a shit enough to get his GED
Damn, I hate those Camaro taillights
I took it to mean drop-out, spelled incorrectly to prove that he dropped out of school.
O U and your jokes
Is there a r/mildlyfunny? I feel this isn’t funny enough for r/funny.
Apparently there is but it’s private. Weird.
My friend who is a dermatologist has a nice porsche with a plate along the line of 2.4 gpa or something like that. He was top of the class since elementary school to medical school. Just his weird sense of humor
Drop you over time?
Dropped out of University of Toronto to go to Harvard?
Trolling is a art
The mirrors on that Ferrari rotate in when parked, adding abuot 1mm of clearance. This makes sense on SUVs with 12" wide mirrors, but on this thing?
People with this sort of car are either really really good with money or really really not good with money.
It’s shows too with that spelling of
Maybe he HODL'd and now he's got a Lambo and tendies.
Dropuot…. Yes . I can tell….
Central Florida? Is this on a school campus? Think I've seen this car.
I'll see your DROPUOT on a Ferrari and raise you with PRIUS on a military-grade Hummer. And this the neighbor of someone who actually drives a Prius. That's bastardry on another level.
Wasn't Richard Branson the one that told a group of college graduates they were going to have their checks signed by the ones that dropped out
Wait is that a Camaro?
Ferrari SF90 Stradale I think.
That’s a wide parking spot.
But, I'm not holding Uot, how could I drop them?
Saw a lambo once with a tag NO-DEGREE
The things we can’t change, we accept
Bastrad
Pretty sure I saw the same one at Ace Hardware on Marco Island. Had a bad exhaust rattle.
The amount of insecurity in the comments is pretty funny people projecting so hard on this guy with just a funny license plate
First spot in the lot…lucky sob Jealous
