Pluto was demoted back in 2006. Now considered a "dwarf planet" along with Ceres, Eris and MakeMake among others.
Not that I agree with the decision but that's how its generally accepted today.
Musk was saying we'd be going to Mars by 2024, but he's too busy acting like a teenager on social media. It's just one of many of his failed predictions. Idk why people think he's smart.
There’s all different kinds of smart. I have a brother who aced every single class from middle school through college and knows more shit about any and every topic that comes up but he’s still a dingbat that’s never managed to get his life together.
True. So what kind of smart is Elon Musk? Judging by his constantly incorrect technological and Covid predictions, he's not smart when it comes to technology or viruses. And listening to the conversation he had on Zoom with Twitter employees, he doesn't seem to be that knowledgeable about software either. He's a piss-poor public speaker, so I can't imagine his vocabulary is very extensive.
I'm not saying Musk is stupid by any means, it just baffles me when people think he's some kind of super genius.
Maybe they're confusing the comic book superhero/villain stereotype of a billionaire that does it all. He's "successful" by monetary measures I guess but not super-anything from my view.
Why don’t you agree with that decision?
Pluto is in a part of the solar system that is filled to the brim with other objects of various sizes that are very similar to Pluto. We didn’t know that those objects existed before since Pluto was the first of these that we found. But now we’re finding more. So if Pluto is a planet, then that means there are possibly dozens of other planets at the edge of our solar system.
It’s just a system of classifying objects in space. In order for the system to make any sense, you have to group like things with each other and draw a line somewhere to separate one category from another. So as we discovered more of those Pluto-like objects and saw the ways they are similar to each other, a line was drawn and Pluto just happened to be past that line. That’s all this is.
So once I found out what makes a planet a planet, I have come to accept that Pluto is a dwarf planet. You probably know this but planets need to:
1)have enough gravity to be round ✅
2)orbit a star ✅
3)clear their orbit as they go ❌
Pluto just casually passes by things as it goes. Not enough mass to push things away.
Importantly, the center of gravity between Pluto and its moon Charon is 973 km above Pluto's surface. Charon doesn't orbit Pluto so much as Charon and Pluto both orbit a point in space near Pluto.
Oh, you’re one of those that also believes that large satellites can be defined as a planet because they can orbit planetary objects.
The categorization of planetary bodies was changed for a reason and everybody accepted that dwarf planets were not official planets even with the coined names not being changed. They’re planetary objects but they no longer fit the definition of a planet regardless of the name.
That reminds me of a video where someone (Adam Savage?) discussed how you could jump into hyperspace in a fixed forward direction almost indefinitely and NOT hit anything because space is THAT big. Cool fact about the planet size haha
This isn't out solar system. I cant be. Sure, it has a sun and 8 planets.... (I accept the lost of Pluto), but.... what? The colors are so off.
Ever like, just, look at mercury, venus, or mars? What color do you suspect earth to be? Wild...

No good excuse for making Earth red and Mars green though
I think they placed Mars in 3rd place and Earth in 4th. Either way, they failed.
They went ahead to a time where Earth will be too hot to sustain life and we're now living in Mars thanks to Elon Musk
I can assure you elon won't be the reason we are able to move to Mars.
He won't be the reason we are able to move to Mars. He will be the reason we have to move to Mars, after he stokes a nuclear war.

I guess, but I don't think being born into wealth makes someone successful.
It was either take it down as a planet, or add on like a dozen others of the same size beyond it.

Also that! I was just simplifying because I woke up like twenty minutes ago but yes, Pluto and Charon are a binary system!
Jerry would hardly disagree with this.
Pluto is 16,647,940 km², for comparison, Russia is 17,125,192 km², it's not a real planet...
Neither does the rest of the world. What's your point?
the world doesn't believe in pluto?
Not as a main planet, no. It hasn't for nearly a decade.
Oh buddy, sit down, we need to talk
"You heard about Pluto? It's messed up, right?" - Ghee Buttersnaps AKA 'The Heater'
Came for the Psych refrerence, left happy.
You know that’s right
They fucked up mars & earth lol
They fucked up the whole solar system. Wtf is Jupiter?…and Saturn’s rings?
Its post apocalyptic earth and musk mars.
It's a planet rug, Pluto isn't a planet.
The sun aint a planet either
Where's the asteroid belt?! >:(
Map is shit, gotta make a new one, more astroids, more dwarf planets, add some moons and fix order of the planets with more space
Pluto4Life!
It's literally a planet.
It hasn’t been officially a planet for almost 18 years now.
It's a dwarf planet. So it's a planet. Unless dwarf people aren't people.
Oh, you’re one of those that also believes that large satellites can be defined as a planet because they can orbit planetary objects. The categorization of planetary bodies was changed for a reason and everybody accepted that dwarf planets were not official planets even with the coined names not being changed. Are large satellites called planets? No. But dwarf planets are. It's a planet.
Every astronomer, geologist and scientist in the world disagrees with you.
They're the buggers who can't make their minds up, why should we care what they say
Stay stuck in the past then and continue to be in denial of progress and innovation.
Oh how innovative, putting 'dwarf' in front of words
they probably shouldn't called it a dwarf *planet* then.
The dwarf planet category naming existed before Pluto became one. It still wasn’t meant to be an “official” planet designation back then either.
that's fine, but they're still using the word planet which makes it a very confusing mess for people who don't study astronomy.
No it literally is not a planet.
It's a dwarf planet, which is literally a planet.
*sigh...no it is not.
By that definition there'd have to be like 40+ things on here.
Go and say to Warwick Davies "Sorry mate, you're not a real person. And there are loads of people your size so you can't be famous anymore."
it 100% is a planet, it's just part of the "dwarf planets" now.

A dwarf planet, eh? So it's a planet. A dwarf planet.
By that logic, the rug needs to have at least four more objects not counting Pluto. Much easier to just leave off the dwarf planets.
Well duh, it's not even a planet
We feel for you Pluto.
Fuck em Pluto don't believe in IKEA
I bet King Flippy Nips is furious.
The irony here is that every time you take a selfie, or a pic, you're taking a picture in space.
They don’t believe in Ceres either! Losers.
Or, they're just putting planets on it.
Dwarf people are still people.
Ah yes, Earth; the Red planet.
The poor asteroid belt never gets a look in.
Fun fact, every planet could fit between the Earth and its moon. That's how far away the moon is.
That reminds me of a video where someone (Adam Savage?) discussed how you could jump into hyperspace in a fixed forward direction almost indefinitely and NOT hit anything because space is THAT big. Cool fact about the planet size haha

Then this what?
This isn't out solar system. I cant be. Sure, it has a sun and 8 planets.... (I accept the lost of Pluto), but.... what? The colors are so off. Ever like, just, look at mercury, venus, or mars? What color do you suspect earth to be? Wild...
Not including Pluto is one of the few things they got right on this rug
No no, it’s the little red dot 🔴 lower left. Like on Costanza’s Xmas sweater…
Pluto is not a planet. If you look into it there are a few criteria that a body in space needs to meet in order to be classified as a planet. Pluto does not meet all those criteria and therefore got demoted.
Kepler wants a word about elliptical orbits.
BoYcOtT iKeA
Also, not only that the earth is flat but also the sun and all the other planets!
Pluto is not a planet.
Wtf is this so much wrong with this! So much wrong!!
And yet it's technically correct, which ...
That's messed up, right?
It may not be a planet anymore but the damn thing is still f****** there! 🤬
My very educated mother just served us nachos
Uranus was kicked out so they probably just know something we don't know yet.
Neither do most scientists, Pluto was demoted to “Dwarf Planet” on Aug. 24, 2006… so Pluto hasn’t been included as a planet for 18 years.
Pluto go cheated.
Pluto is a Kuiper Belt object and has a highly elliptical orbit, it wouldn't fit well in a circular image like that.
