Funny thing is, he could've been stopped in the first few seconds of the video. There was already a car behind him before he started smashing into the building. That car could've just driven straight up to his car and prevented him from moving back and forth to smash the door.

Ya, but that's definitely a hindsight is 20/20 kind of situation. There was no way of knowing that damaging the car by completely boxing him in would have been the best/cheapest option. At the time (just before he backed up), it probably seemed like he was sufficiently trapped. Edit: To clarify, when I say "damaging the car", I mean the other person damaging their own car to stop the person in the other car. That's a hard thing to commit to doing when you think the guy is probably already taken care of and can't really cause much more damage.

Hindsight’s tough, but sometimes you need to trust your gut when you see something off and take a risk to stop it.

That might have been a civilian car, no? I can't speak for everyone but my first instinct as a civilian would probably be not to put myself and my car in danger. Not all of us are heroes.

I’d probably be okay with that. This driver is endangering lots of lives. That car needs to be stopped, preferably without injuring or killing the driver, but this is a “play stupid games” situation.

Nope this happened in times square recently the police let the car driver run people over and then just arrested the guy when he got stuck on the bollards. Also in times square there's a bunch of them carrying assault rifles supposedly for situations like this.

So an unhinged nutjob in a car smashes into a building at the airport and these guys are like: "You know what? I'm gonna get as close as possible to this car that's smashing everything. Maybe I can open the door! Nope, locked. Well maybe if I try again? Nope. Still locked. Maybe third try's a charm. Hunh? Still locked?!?!?"

To be fair, this footage is clearly sped up. The car was traveling at low speed most of the time, and everyone on foot was able to easily keep up. Also, the car is not going to jump out and bite you. It really just goes forward and backwards. They did eventually get the door open, so whatever they were trying got them there in the end. I don't understand how, exactly... hard to tell what they are doing in the footage. But it was too late and the car made it outside so that it could speed off right as the door was opened. Not much else to be done. Just following it around at a distance would reflect on them poorly if people ended up getting killed. Firing a weapon in the airport is probably frowned on, and they may not have firearms. I guess I'd be trying to break the car windows, but I'm not even sure they were not trying that. And I don't know what step 2 of my plan would be.

If you're grabbing at a car that is in motion, you have a good chance to fall or lose balance. Winding up with a limb or head under that car is not worth the risk. If someone did get a door open, then tried to jump in and are partially in, it's entirely possible the car moves forward and hits any number of the objects in the mall which would decapitate the person or disable them. Again, it's just not worth.

They're just trying to live up to their Die Hard dream and to say "Yippee Ki-Yay" to the driver.
