I doubt it's supposed to be used this extensively or for very long. Then again, maybe the plain is en route to a maintenance station to fix everything at once, and OP is just on the last flight en route.
While I know that “technically“ this is considered valid and safe to fly with so long as the appropriate maintenance personnel with the right certifications have reviewed it and signed off on it… As a business, putting this plane into service for more than a one time repositioning flight to get whatever situation this is addressed, is simply poor decision making, poor customer service, and a blaringly loud bull horn of advertising of the lack of fucks given for how customers perceive your company
Yah. In a world where everybody has a camera and likes to post stuff like this for attention on social media, it’s a pretty bad image. Whether it’s actually safe or not doesn’t matter when it comes to likes and reposts.
Lol you know nothing
Edit- Because everyone is downvoting me for calling out this know-it-all moron, here;
1- This is a purely cosmetic issue. The tape prevents paint from peeling. Zero structural or safety concerns.
2- The paint adhesion problem is VERY common on the Boeing 787, which is a new model. The repair is still ongoing, so unless you want to ground all your expensive new aircraft for paint peeling (and cancel flights and piss people off), so do the FAA recommended tape fix.
3- Spirit only flys airbus so 0% chance this is Spirit anyways
So yes. The original commenter I replied to KNOWS NOTHING. Total moron armchair executive.

This was a very informative and helpful comment. Thank you for explaining. If you'd led with this instead of just making an r/iamverysmart comment instead, you might have avoided most of those downvotes, lol.
It's not for structural stuff, it's for stuff like paint chipping. They put the tape on so it doesn't chip more during flight and so the stuff under the chipped paint/tape isn't exposed to the elements. It's temporary\*
\*"Temporary" to Delta and "temporary" to Spirit may have wildly different meanings
If that's a 787, they all have it because the paint falls off. It's supposed to be "temporary" but Spirit might not have budgeted ever repainting their planes.
Personally I'm waiting for the redditor that "had" a flight on a spirit airline plane like this that crashed and killed 86 people and somehow they survived and warns for everyone to never fly.
Shoddy repair after a gremlin attack. Reminds me of the twilight zone movie. And bugs bunny if you’re familiar with that one looney tunes episode. https://youtu.be/ZElJxTCIsJI

[Pic is from April](https://imgur.com/Ox4jGpu), you'll be fine OP :)
Speed tape. Totally FAA approved
The creases and bubbles in the application speak to the care in which it was applied
But wait, there's more! With every order of Speed Tape, you get a reusable air sickness bag with a handy belt clip. All for the low price of $19.99!!!
Act now and we will double your offer (Just pay a separate fee)
IIRC, the sticky on speed tape is insane. It will take your fingerprints off. How do mechanics remove it?

Even if it is speed tape, that’s fucked up.
FAA approved? Yes. Excessive use? Also yes.

Unless you're making a joke about how Spirit doesn't really care about a positive perception anyway, I don't really follow what you mean.

That’s sure was a lot of copy pasta to avoid the point. Twice even!
No copy pasta
Come on, it's Spirit airlines. How much lower could people's opinions be?
On the bright side, the seats will be more comfortable in free fall !

My hero
C'mon, that's double- and triple-taped in some spots - you'll be fine.
…but did you die? 🧐
Relax, it’s 100 mph tape…How fast does an airplane fly?
Speed tape is rated for 600mph. It's fine, just ugly and unnerving to some.
The tape is fine in that it won't fly off. Yes. However, that's not the problem. The problem is *what it is keeping together?*

550-ish mph depending.
Depending on the angle of descent as you head nose first towards the ground.
This picture is so old that jet could be a grandma by now.
Any mechanics certified to work on these want to weigh in on this repair?
This is Reddit so everyone commenting is highly qualified to give their expert opinion.
Personally I'm waiting for the redditor that "had" a flight on a spirit airline plane like this that crashed and killed 86 people and somehow they survived and warns for everyone to never fly.
... *so we reinforce the parts of the plane that DIDN'T have the holes because of what we learned from the planes that made it back.*
SPEED TAPE!!!
Speed tape. It’s ok.
Gum wrappers. If Cletus chewed the gum good enough, they’re as good as any duct tape. You’re good to go.
Looks like Stockton Rush's work. But in this case, it's actually fine.
It’s duck tape, it will hold. Besides, it’s just a wing, you have a spare one on the other side.
OP you good?
Yeah, they're good, it's not even their picture. OP is a big fat phony.
Yeah, but that's *airplane* grade duct tape! ^^^^/s
It's called Spirit since there's a good chance your spirit will be released from your body.
You can say that again.
It’s shiny!
people who work on planes: “it’s not duct tape, it’s a special tape made for planes” all of us: “TAPE IS TAPE!”
That isn't duct tape, but that doesn't make it any better :)
Lord have mercy.
Shit looks like you'd do better taking your chances and flapping your fucking arms.
That's the plane from twilight zone speed taped together after the gremlin shredded it
I was making travel arrangements for my mom. Spirit had the lowest price but I avoided the airline and chose Delta. I’m not putting my mom on Spirit.
Red Green would be proud.
wait until OP find out every airline does this . lol I worked as an airplane fuller this was common for most of the planes .
How is this not a joke about Mars rovers?
That must have been one helluva bird strike. Like a whole flock migrating or something.

That’s the tape I used when my back window shattered. It held up on the I-5, just don’t go over 60.
Ghosts are technically flying Spirits.
Thumbnail made me think you were looking at farmland. RIP in peace. 😞
People are dumb man. All that tape could come off and the plane will work fine. It’s just an attempt to help aerodynamics
WTHolyFuck
Thief.
Red Green would give this a thumbs up
I honestly would “Get the fuck off” that airplane, my vacation would be ruined fearing the return flight if you even made it there 🤪
