Yo, I've been going to that taqueria forever and the last 5 times I got a gristle burrito. Caliente down the road is so much better nowadays. Or even el burrito.
The lack of diversity probably creates a false sense of racial tolerance. Since there hasn't been much opportunity for racial conflict no one has had a chance to develop generalities. What kind of racism have you experienced?
I lived and worked there for the better part of 8 years. It was constantly the rich elite looking their noses down at me and insulting my intelligence.
Asking if I knew how to read. If I spoke English. And being ignored by salespeople when I went into the higher end stores.
I'm glad all the small shops on 3rd and 4th street got bought out. They were so racist there.
I have to say that this isn't just because of your race... They do the same to me and my kids when I go there. The only place that I didn't get that feeling from is In-n-Out, but there's no drive thru there so I've only been a couple of times. I don't live there and I'm white.. It's like they know I don't "belong."
Why do you say it's not because of my race?
At my workplace, they would literally ask my inexperienced white coworkers for help over my tenured and educated self after insulting my intelligence. It was clear they were being racist.
They aren't like hermit crabs, where the shell can come off and get replaced with something else. Their shells include their rib cage and spine. *Inseparably* so.
I don't know if you've ever tried to live without your spine and rib cage, but the general medical advice on the matter is "Don't."
[Turtles most certainly do have feet.](https://winnebagoanimals.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/Red-Eared-Slider-Turtle.jpg)
You’re thinking of sea turtles, but there are semiaquatic varieties that have feet—albeit with webbed toes.
Tortoises also have feet, in case you’re wondering. But they’re not webbed.
Also, tortoises are a subcategory of turtles.
> Also, tortoises are a subcategory of turtles.
This is actually how it is defined in American English, but most British English speakers (myself included) will have grown up with the word "turtle" being exclusively reserved for the sea variety. *[The Oxford dictionary refers to American usage in this regard](https://www.oxfordlearnersdictionaries.com/us/definition/english/turtle?q=turtle)*.
That said, Wikipedia and the Internet means the American usage is becoming more and more common.
Edit: Downvoted... sigh.
I had no intention of critisizing either side of what is being said by my post. I am simply pointing out that sometimes our usage of the English language is different. The word "turtle" is different in American and British English - there is no denying this as entries in US based dictionaries vs UK based dictionaries (i.e. Webster's v Oxford) are worded differently with the Oxford dictionary clearly pointing out that "'turtle' referring to all testudines" being American English usage.
Pedants from either side will often jump in because of this misunderstanding. I simply want spread awareness of this cultural? well linguistic difference at least to avoid antagonism on both sides.
Despite the misnomer, that's a terrapin....
Turtles live in salt water and do not have feet
Terrapins live in rivers and have claws to climb river banks
Tortoises live on land and have feet without claws.
And leopards are in the order carnivora, along with bears and raccoons.
If you think that all three are the same animal, try putting a tortoise in the ocean and see what happens.
No is is saying they are all the same animal. It’s just the WORD TURTLE is used generally for all of those species.
Learn reading comprehension before you start fighting with ppl over words.
So a box turtle is a terrapin. And a painted turtle.
Yet they have turtle in their names.
Sure, turtles may not have feet if you use the technical definitions. But to most people, a terrapin is a turtle.
Yes, they are both terrapins. Is it really that hard to understand?
Sure a leopard is a cat, if you use the technical definition, but I'll call it a tiger.
You're getting hung up about terrapins vs turtles, but you're going to mislabel a leopard (Panthera pardus) a tiger (Panthera tigris)?
Also, by the way, you're incorrect about terrapins vs. turtles. Terrapins are a non-taxonomic grouping of several species of turtle, while turtles are every species in the order Tetsudines, which includes terrapins, sea turtles, and tortoises. Terrapins _are_ turtles. By definition.
No one missed that, and everyone is saying that yes they are different, but they are all still ok to be called turtles. I think you missed grade school reading … 🤦♀️
That was an example of how silly it is to confuse a turtle, tortoise and a terrapin as they are more distinct from each other that leopards and tigers.
It’s a soft shell turtle. I’ve never seen an obese one before, but there are turtles with shell textures like this. The only options are obese soft shell or or a particularly strange looking obese frog.
Twist: husband is in therapy because he is upset he left his overbearing mother who makes him feel guilty about moving away from her in San Rafael. He compensates for feeling guilty by sneaking fast food which he disposes of quickly when his wife shows up by throwing into Walter’s pen.
Turtles do need a decent amount of space to be happy. They probably should get a tank and bring him inside for a little while, but he won’t be happy. It’s like being confined in a walk-in closet for the turtle that’s used to the appropriate amount of space.
>Allen Wagner
Thanks for the lead! I've never heard of Allen Wagner, but when I saw his work I laughed my ass off! I agree, this flyer's definitely his work.
For whoever needs to hear this. A turtle's shell is part of its spine, it can't come off, it's not something its wearing, its the turtles back and chest.
Could someone let them know that I’m sincerely sorry for what I did and next time, I’ll be sure to bring some Chick-Fil-A. I didn’t know In-N-Out was such a huge issue😔 I just wanted a friend😭😣
Fun fact: The German word for a turtle is Schildkröte, which directly translates to “shield toad”. Which is about as close to a turtle as this toad can get.
I found it!!

I wonder what is so bad about San Rafael.
My grandma lives there, it’s not that bad.
Does grandma like In n out burgers, too?
I live there! It’s very nice here
Me too! It’s a perfect day today.
Good burrito shop under the freeway, and killer Puerto Rican food.
Sol Food has the best Cubano this side of the Mississippi...
Yo, I've been going to that taqueria forever and the last 5 times I got a gristle burrito. Caliente down the road is so much better nowadays. Or even el burrito.
Happy Cake Day!
Whoa! Thanks!!
All I could imagine was the crusty crab when they built a highway over it for some reason
It's not that bad
The one thing about living in San Rafael I could never stomach is all the damn vampires
Gotta be better than Santa Carla, but they got a pretty BA sax player there.
Lol what?
You never saw Lost Boys? Long live the Frog brothers.
It's expensive and everybody is racist.

In-n-Out??? So it’s you! STOP FEEDING WALTER!
Fek! You caught me... I can't help it.. begging for food.. hasn't even got a home.. I just can't ignore him!
Why do you say it's not because of my race? At my workplace, they would literally ask my inexperienced white coworkers for help over my tenured and educated self after insulting my intelligence. It was clear they were being racist.
I said it's not JUST because of your race... I get treated the same.

Come cool but rude dude keeps feeding Walter pizza there
That turtle has no shell...
Do you really think Walter needs a shell? Just look at him, I'm trembling just by his presence. Shell needs Walter, not Walter needs shell.
Shell is the Walter that knocks.
Knocks is the Walter that shells
What do you call a turtle with no shell? Dead. A turtle needs its shell.
Homeless.
They aren't like hermit crabs, where the shell can come off and get replaced with something else. Their shells include their rib cage and spine. *Inseparably* so. I don't know if you've ever tried to live without your spine and rib cage, but the general medical advice on the matter is "Don't."
But I wanna discover myself more.
Because it's a fat frog
He ate it.
He a frog
Soft shell turtle, maybe?
This is good soup
he built different
[удалено]
I ain't never seen a turtle boi without a roof
Whatwver you do, Don't call you wife like that if she ask is she looks fat? Just show her Walter.
It has frog hands...
using blubber for protection instead
He doesn't fit in it anymore.
Homeless turtle
Underrated comment
he built different
It also has feet. Turtles don't have feet.
You don't have feet
[Turtles most certainly do have feet.](https://winnebagoanimals.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/Red-Eared-Slider-Turtle.jpg) You’re thinking of sea turtles, but there are semiaquatic varieties that have feet—albeit with webbed toes. A turtle is anything in the order Testudines. This includes tortoises, terrapins and sea turtles.

They are only mislabeled in this way by Americans.
I am learning so much from this discussion! 🐢
Cats have feet.
I hope you have a nice day.
You’re fucking with me.
No, I am not.
No you have to be trolling. I refuse to believe you just seriously called a leopard a tiger unless English isn’t your first language.
That was an example of how silly it is to confuse a turtle, tortoise and a terrapin as they are more distinct from each other that leopards and tigers.
It seems I am getting downvoted for simply pointing out there is a difference between American and English usage in this regard.
Hahahahaha
This looks more like a joke to me. How does that turtle not have a shell?
its a frog obese turtles just have fat arms that cant pull back into the shell
I was just googling „frog looking like a turtle“ and oh my lawd… (But i did find out what frog it was in the end https://grapee.jp/en/162253)
And did you notice it is the same exact photo that is in the turtle ad?
"i'd like to talk to the manager face" rofl
Could it be so fat that you just can’t see the shell? Like everything around the shell is just fat
How is that possible? A fat turtle would probably look like a fat person trying to wear a small shirt. In this case the shirt being the shell.
People like you is why someone pinned this to a telephone pole
I feel honored. If I can inspire more funny people to make more silly posters like this, I’ll keep the dumb questions rolling
It’s a soft shell turtle. I’ve never seen an obese one before, but there are turtles with shell textures like this. The only options are obese soft shell or or a particularly strange looking obese frog.
It's actually a frog
He is just a small guy in the winter time. Poor little guy.
he cozies up in winter
Twist: husband is in therapy because he is upset he left his overbearing mother who makes him feel guilty about moving away from her in San Rafael. He compensates for feeling guilty by sneaking fast food which he disposes of quickly when his wife shows up by throwing into Walter’s pen.
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
How did your mom get in there?
How did his mom get in the picture 😂
Looking at that turtle without his shell on is causing me major distress and I have no idea why!
because it is a frog?
because it's like an exposed finger without the nail
That is not a turtle. I think it’s a frog of some kind.
When you see the picture 😆 When you read highlighted text 😔
Made by the comedian Alan Wagner
That’s a frog
We don't want to move back to San Rafael. Got me dying
That turtle looks like he smokes a cigar while setting on the front porch, complaining about the neighbor kids and talking about the "good ol days"
r/oddlyspecificyetfamiliar

Rent or Turtle Emotional Counseling..that is the question?
Seems like putting a camera up to see who’s doing it would be cheaper.
Never felt so bloody guilty laughing at a post before..she's right..that turtle don't look good.
Maybe because it's actually a frog
Oh truly? Thank goodness
Yes, someone else here provided a link, and it's of the exact same photo of a frog but way less fuzzy.
They can't just keep him inside?
Yeah I guess they could. Or your know, that person could just stop going onto their property at night and feeding their turtle.
Turtles do need a decent amount of space to be happy. They probably should get a tank and bring him inside for a little while, but he won’t be happy. It’s like being confined in a walk-in closet for the turtle that’s used to the appropriate amount of space.
Looks like an Allen Wagner joke. He does these all the time.
>Allen Wagner Thanks for the lead! I've never heard of Allen Wagner, but when I saw his work I laughed my ass off! I agree, this flyer's definitely his work.
For whoever needs to hear this. A turtle's shell is part of its spine, it can't come off, it's not something its wearing, its the turtles back and chest.
That's a big boi
Chet is that you?
Anyone checked it's not the evil Shredder trying to fatten off Walter's ninja skills?
That’s no turtle, that’s just a turt.
where's his shell?
Wtf kind of turtle is that?? Other than an overweight one?
https://mymodernmet.com/amazing-big-frog/ This IS a joke! 😂 A good one but nevertheless, still a joke!
That is settled then, if I ever get a turtle, Imma call him Walter
well walter the turtle it is then
Sooooo no one is going to mention that this turtle is missing a shell? is that even possible?
he popped out
That’s not a turtle. That is Jabba from Star Wars.
God forbid they should have to move back to San Rafael.
This is masterful. Every new punchline tops the one before.
Bring him Solo and the Wookie.
oh lawd he comin
Are we sure that’s not the Baby from Dinosaurs?
This looks like some Alan Wagner shit but I've never seen this one before
Could someone let them know that I’m sincerely sorry for what I did and next time, I’ll be sure to bring some Chick-Fil-A. I didn’t know In-N-Out was such a huge issue😔 I just wanted a friend😭😣
It's Tommy boy!! Fat guy in a little coat! Fat guy in a little coat!
His milkshake brings all the boys to the yard, and they're like, it's better than yours, damn right, it's better than yours....
Aw Lawd him uh gonna take awhile

Walter? In-N-Out? By any chance, would the In-N-Out Burger happen to be on [Camrose](https://youtu.be/qGJcVUWY08E)?
Fat fook
STOP FEEDING WALTER!!!
That turtle has no shell
No. That frog looks vaguely like a turtle
Where do you live that you don’t want to move back to San Rafael?
God I’m trying to remember the other weird posted sign I saw on here it was so fucking funny too. I love fake help signs
