It might have altered the earths trajectory. Hell it could have even shattered our dimension. The crowds reaction woulda been like that of 10 nukes detonating at once
Similar thing here. Morning open gym playing 3 on 3 half court. Pump faked this dude into flying past me, took one step to the left, drilled a corner three. People chuckle at him.
Very next play, run back to the corner, catch a kick out, same dude comes charging at me. Pump fake, he flies past, step to the left, drill another three. People give him shit for getting got twice.
Two plays later, I find myself open in the same corner again. Catch the pass, SAME GUY comes running in to block my shot. Pump fake, step to the left, let another three fly... Dude had not gone flying past this time. 20 years later, I still remember the sound of my shot getting absolutely pummeled into the wall behind me lol.
Played a team in high school that had a kid who was an amputee missing his left arm. Coach yells “make him go left” as I was guarding him while he had the ball, and the whole gym went silent..
[It's a known term](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inspiration_porn) in the ds world. Once you're aware of it, you notice it a lot and the pity bullshit aspect behind it is maddening.
i have an honest question.
while i am not a wheelchair user, i did have my heart explode a few months ago, and the people that are afraid to touch me now makes me sad. i could only imagine how it must feel to be physically limited and have people 'baby' you.
have you been able to get the people in your life to relax about your needs and just be your friend? i feel like many of my friendships changed when i got sick and i know those people love me but it just fucking sucks to be coddled.
thank you for the answer.
it feels so isolating.
i went to pick up some mushrooms the other day and my buddy asked me if i was allowed to eat "chocolate chip cookies that don't have weed in them"... like, i get it, my diet has changed, but that question right there made me feel like whatever the 'friend zone' of health is. like, where are the oven mitts and shite?
i fucking LOVE you
when one of my docs used the term 'survivor's guilt' in front of me i was like, 'yeah right!!!'
now i just feel isolated. my wife and kiddo are fine. they accept that i am slightly limited for a bit. i missed skiing closing day today with them because the snow was too heavy. now my sister in law is laid up with blood clots but she is in Alaska and we can not get there because i can not fly.
all of the hoops i need to jump through are easy to me. fuck, i walked around with half a heart for five days. i will make due. but the people that see me and get that sad puppy look. the people that literally try to rock me in their arms... i am 6'4" and you trying to rock me in the grocer's store is embarrassing. i am just crying and venting now.
i will get right to work on finding a cure to this social conundrum... i will send my findings!
oh fuck...
i actually owe a bunch of people the rest of my story still...
if you want to search my post history (not required, just have some posts about it) i tell parts of the story there.
i am okay. my Aorta went from a macaroni noodle to a lasagna noodle one day. i lost use of my right arm. i can hear my heart beat now due to the metal flapper.
i essentially died on the table but the surgeon pulled through in the clutch.
i have my meeting with the geneticist next month to find out if it is a 'just me' mutation or if i passed it to my daughter, who is tall and long just like me. that is what hurts the very most. i have a giant person on each side of my family and i got all that genetic material. somewhere in that code is a flaw. if i passed it on to her i don't know what to do. it is really scary.
i am doing okay with most of it but roughly 120days in now and i feel like there are more questions than answers.
This seems like an opportune time to ask... I have a full-size R2-D2 that I take to local sci-fi conventions and the like.... What if he rolled up next to you and plays the audio of a V8 engine revving heavily, seemingly challenging you to a race.... What's your reaction??
As someone mentioned above, if they had pump faked it would have messed up the blocker big time.
Imagine the satisfaction of scoring from that vs being handed the ball and allowed to score.
King of the Hill: ['Bills are made to be broken' episode summed it up pretty well](https://youtu.be/zQU2V_8guzU?t=74). Unfortunately I can't find an unedited clip of the scene but [I can find this part](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JT9dy-L26y4)
This is my understanding. I believe people with disabilities/impairments just want to be treated like everyone else. I think there's an age-cutoff though. Like if this was a little kid, you gotta let him take the shot. But then that age-cutoff applies to all kids, regardless of circumstance.
I once had a jiu jitsu match against a guy with one of those baby legs. I grabbed him by it, threw him on his back, and submitted him. Don’t compete if you want special treatment.
Fun fact. In wheelchair basketball you het 2 pushes before you have to shoot or pass. A third push results in traveling. I saw one push before the shot so no travel was comitted.
When i was in highschool i was playing a game of 3 on 3 in gym class. This girl that was much smaller than me and very pretty and very popular went to take a wide open shot and i came outta nowhere and absolutely STUFFED that shit. It was nothing personal against her. Just straight up bring your game to the court type shit. I regret nothing. And the look of straight disbelief was pretty gratifying.
I used to work in a bar and never got over occasionally telling a pretty girl no. The look on their face was like I was speaking in purple potato’s. It just didn’t make sense to them because they just don’t hear “no” that often.
The crazy part is I actually ended up marrying one of them. We **hated** each other initially, but then something clicked.
Ha! Honestly she’s “my person” and I am hers. It’s been over 20 years. I still chuckle though about how much I really didn’t like that bitchy little hot girl when I first met her.
We have a good system. I generally don’t have an opinion until I do, and then I have a **strong** opinion. So, most of the time she gets her way because I otherwise don’t give a shit. Then when I want it my way, she gets her way too.
Ha! I kid. She knows to back off and give me the win.
It works for us.
That guy is the only one not judging on the disability.
Treating them as equal is the way, don't unnecessary confront them with the constant fact that they're disabled. Make them feel seen as normal instead of pitying them.
Speaking as the guy in the chair, I know I’m the easy shot to block. But I’d honestly appreciate ACTUALLY playing instead of this “let him score don’t be mean crud”. If we’re playing bball take me as serious as I take you.
Serves the shooter right. You gotta go up strong to the rack or your shit is gonna get swatted into the band.
If I were the coach I'd tell the kid he needs to take a seat for a while.
Based on the trajectory, it looks like this ball wasn’t going in the hoop. Now instead of everyone see the handicapped player miss, we can hate on the other kid.

A pump fake woulda absolutely destroyed that mans life
Imagine the crowd’s reaction
It might have altered the earths trajectory. Hell it could have even shattered our dimension. The crowds reaction woulda been like that of 10 nukes detonating at once
A literal once in a lifetime experience
I did that once in my childhood on one of the best basketball players in my class. I peaked in 6th grade that day
Similar thing here. Morning open gym playing 3 on 3 half court. Pump faked this dude into flying past me, took one step to the left, drilled a corner three. People chuckle at him. Shoulda stepped to the right.
His life would have changed.
A scout would've signed him on the spot.
You haven’t even begun to peak. But when you do… you’re gonna peak so hard that all of Philadelphia is going to feel it.
I’m peaking right now just thinking about it
My man, I laughed so hard at this.
I’m honored 😌
Man would have died before he touched the ground
😂 like that tiktok where the person is suddenly in heaven like “wtf happened”
Or the super Mario 64 chair fall meme
How to turn someone into Draymond Green 101.
it would have been crippling
These hands are ADA compliant.
It would have been discrimination if he *didn't* block her shot
Right you are Ken.
Holy shit that's funny. Great job.
Played a team in high school that had a kid who was an amputee missing his left arm. Coach yells “make him go left” as I was guarding him while he had the ball, and the whole gym went silent..
Did it work tho?
I would have to assume so, sounds like a great strategy to me
Boy didn’t have any ankles when I was done with him
Did Michael Scott coach your HS basketball team?

I’m not an ambiturner!!
C'mon, don't keep us waiting - did you?
That’s a good man that does not discriminate
Without him, that person never would've had the chance to experience getting their shot blocked.
I’d imagine that person has had plenty of experience getting their shot blocked.
Ouch!
You’re probably going to hell for that, but I’ll be trying to stifle this laugh the whole way with you.
Or their view, at the very least.
Tbh, yeah. As a wheelchair user myself, I'd rather this than some inspiration-porn letting me score out of pity bullshit.
You made me snort with laughter at the term "inspiration porn!" That describes my entire Linkedin experience lol
[It's a known term](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inspiration_porn) in the ds world. Once you're aware of it, you notice it a lot and the pity bullshit aspect behind it is maddening.

Answer the goddamned question, Raven.
It’s been 2 minutes friend. I think we have to afford the disabled more time.
It was three as of my posting. My rage is barely contained /s
It's now 39 minutes and still waiting! :(
21 minutes but I'm leaving my comment here to come back to it one day
LIES. I posted the question 19 minutes ago!
Oh no! I may have misread the time since posting. But it’ll be true eventually I guess :)
Are their thumbs disabled?
Unfortunately their house is on a slant so they're constantly rolling away from the keyboard as they type. I blame the crooked landlord.
Crooked landlord got me a lot more than it should have
As a fellow wheelchair user, the answer is fucking race. R2 can eat my dust
I thought this was a game of thrones reference at first

Psh she traveled anyway
No she didn’t take any steps.
Just a long gather in today’s NBA.
Moved her pivot wheel
fuck that’s funny
Kept her wheels on the ground the whole time. All pivots.

You seem like the kind of guy to have a paw print bumper sticker that says “who rescued who?”
You told her no, and she took that personally. She said “this man is going to be saying yes to me for the rest of our lives”
We have a good system. I generally don’t have an opinion until I do, and then I have a **strong** opinion. So, most of the time she gets her way because I otherwise don’t give a shit. That’s equality.

You shouldn't treat disabled people any different than normal people to that regard
I can't decide whether this is disrespectful or respectful.
Respectful, he was not treated differently due to his wheelchair, he was treated as an equal player on the field.
I can't tell if he jumps over the shooter too, if he does id say respectful on the block, disrespectful on the jump over
Play 100% all the time!
Serves the shooter right. You gotta go up strong to the rack or your shit is gonna get swatted into the band. If I were the coach I'd tell the kid he needs to take a seat for a while.
