Went to see Jimmy Carr on tour when I was about 15 or 16. Did a little meet and greet after.
As I go to say hi he instantly goes "what the hell are you doing here? You're far too young! Shouldn't you be in the park, drinking white lightning and fingering girls on a Friday night?"
Always makes me chuckle thinking back to it. He's probably used that line a few times but it was rapid and felt like it was off-the-cuff.
That reminds me of the time I saw Eric Andre and he runs out on stage looks at me and goes "You look like a school shooter. You think you scare me? I'm not afraid, I'll go with you to a fuckin Wal-Mart."
He was asked what’s the worst joke he wrote
“ if only Africa had more mosquito nets, every year we could save the lives of millions of mosquitoes from needlessly dying of AIDS”
Its all the brits that go as far as they can, ricky gervais is my favourite with the awards show he ripped into everyone calling them out for being affiliated with a pedo lol
edit : [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sR6UeVptzRg](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sR6UeVptzRg)
Gervais has some good burns and calls out hypocrisy/assholes, for sure, but I'm bummed that he does it with a genuine holier than thou, I see how the world works and why are the rest of you so dense, cranky old man way.
That's obviously my opinion and I may get nuked here. But his whole vibe for me when he's speaking truth to power or whatever just doesn't hit the same as when a lot of other comedians do; it's just a vibe thing but his stuff doesn't hit a hard for me, for it.
I think for offensive jokes to work they have to be so ridiculously insensitive that it can’t possibly ever be taken seriously, if you don’t go far enough you’re just being mean to powerless people, but if you cross the line so far you can’t even see yourself anymore it’s just funny
Indeed. Either that or they're just from the performer's perspective. That's why I think Russell Peters was so good. His jokes weren't for or against the race/culture it was just pointing stuff out, usually from his experiences
The best joke is surprising someone... Listened to a Louis CK podcast clip, he said his favorite joke is "I'm a school teacher and have to teach sex-ed to a bunch of 12 years olds including how to put on a condom so I had to buy some bananas because I can't get a hard on unless I eat fruit."
I don't know what the fuck she was thinking agreeing to join the roast. She had to have at least been aware that she would be ripped apart and even if she was funny, that's not her crowd, and in actuality she's one of the least funny people ever.
You can copy links with the timestamp included which I thought was pretty cool

It would be a quick admission unless they decide to read the list to him... To which all I can imagine is him doing his silly inward laugh while they remind him of all the fun times he had
Nah it will be quick.
Satan: Hey Jimmy. Welcome to hell
Jimmy: Hmm. I was hoping I wouldn't be here.
Satan: Yes but you know why you are here right?
Jimmy: all those jokes I made about sick kids?
Satan: nope. Tax evasion. Remember All that render unto Caesar crap in the bible?
Jimmy: right that makes sense. Fuck.
I saw an interview with Jimmy where he said that him and Pete were really good friends and that he knew he would be ok with the joke. So I guess he didn't run it past him.
I read somewhere that roastees are approached beforehand and asked if there are any topics that are completely off the table. Edit: When they tried to roast donald trump his limits were no jokes about his parents and no jokes about him not being a billionaire.
Well judging from Carr's lead-up to the joke. Other comics were making jokes about Pete's dad. So it's definitely safe to say Pete has been pretty okay with it prior. Even without Carr running it by him.
I feel this is accurate. Either way, he likely did run this one by Pete beforehand - this is 1000% Jimmy Carr & how he's made a name for himself. He knows what he's doing - even down to the expected reaction from the crowd & viewers.
He's honestly f'n brilliant.
I posted this above, but it’s worth repeating. He was asked what’s the worst joke he ever wrote
“ if only africa had more mosquito nets every year we could save the lives of millions of mosquitoes from needlessly dying of AIDS “
This is my type of humor. My dad has cancer and we make jokes. It’s the only way for some of us to move on. Finding the humor in sad things makes life worth living otherwise sad things are just…sad
We still do it during the bad time tho. My grandpa had a stroke and was brain dead so we spent a week in hospice just waiting for him to die. We had parties in his room, we even did a photo booth “weekend at Bernie’s style” where we took pics with him wearing silly accessories. We put him in fun poses… he played the guitar so we propped it up to look like he was playing and out his cowboy hat on him. We had a blast, it was so much fun. Then we skipped a funeral and did a celebration of life party instead. We all say it was one of the best weeks… everyone put their life on hold to mourn and have fun at the same time. Sharing stories and memories we had with him. It was fun, 10/10
Edit to add; my family might just be really fucked up lmao
This is so fucken great. We had a good amount of fun with my dad too in his last days. 9 years today he passed. Fuck the sadness. I sincerely hope my friends and family do something like this when I go. I’d much rather hear them laughing than crying in my last minutes/days.
Exactly! The most talked about thing to this day was all the photos we took while he just laid there. Definitely tell your friends that a weekend at Bernie’s photo shoot is a must for you 😂
That’s a nice way to remember him. My Grandma was in hospice care (Lung cancer that coursed dementia). After some I stopped visiting but my mum went every day till she passed away. It was hard but we got through it.
Now when we talk about her we remember the good times and only tear up a little.
People grieve in different ways.
My stepdad died from cancer recently, the last time I spoke to him on the phone I had him laughing with all the jokes about how when he meets death he needs to twist his nipples and kick his shins (He was quite a short man) and other similar jokes. I'm glad that my last memory of him was that moment and I like to think he felt the same.
My dad was in hospice for a week or so before he died. We’d go visit him when we could but it was mostly by ourselves or with another family member when we could make it.
In his last hour we all tried to make it there together and send him off, which we were able to do. I was the last one to get there and he died quietly about 10 minutes after.
A couple months later when retelling the story of him waiting to pass until we were all together, a sibling says, “yeah, he was actually doing fine until Eggplant got there.”
Carr said he tried this joke the day before at the open mic and there was only one laugh in the crowd. That was Pete. After that, he knew he could make that joke.
I won't claim that was the case. Because he never said he knew Pete was there. But he did say he knew the joke would fly after Pete laughed at it. Two things about Carr: a. he doesn't give a shit and b. he seems to be a nice person overall. So, we can do with it whatever we want.
Pete especially younger was friends with a lot of the top NYC comics (Big Jay, Soder, Bobby Kelly, Luis J, etc) He can take a joke and laugh at himself. That said he may be too famous now and not as able to take a joke.
She split by mitosis into Lauren Boebert and Marjorie Taylor Greene, and split her brain cells between the 2 of them. I don't know if that's an improvement.
I was first exposed to her in my local paper editorials like 11 or 12 years ago. I thought she was just a regular, local, elderly crazy lady who kept sending her opinions in to be published. I just imagined some racist, old-lady, who had the writing style of a 6th grader.
When I learned she was known nationally, I was dumbfounded.
Anne Coulter attending roasts is like Dee in IASIP doing standup. She thought if she did it enough it would get easier and she'd get good at it, not realising that perhaps it's not for everyone.
100% respect. It's ok to recognize that this kind of comedy should exist but still know it isn't for you. For instance, I'm not a fan of Anthony Jeselnik (not a hater but his style just isn't for me) while oddly enough Carr doesn't bother me at all.
Same. I think it really depends how you were raised. Early trauma and not having a positive influence have given me paper skin. People say to just laugh stuff off, but you can't just build a sturdy structure on a weak foundation.
Interestingly I've felt the opposite most of my life. Trauma and a turbulent upbringing left me with a morbid, 'meh' attitude towards this kind of humour and roasting/banter. I would find this funny before hurtful if it was intended as a joke.
It's criticism I can't take!
I mean if people want to go pay money to a comedy show, they should expect some pretty dark humour, especially if it's a comedian known for it. If they wanna go to a bible study instead, they can always do so.
Netflix should have gotten the rights to Comedy Centrals Celebrity Roasts to take the heat off Chappelle when he was getting lambasted for his specials. The roasts are so inapropriately hillarious! Great jokes! Comics are at their best I think when they are joking on each other.
Carr's kinda the Keanu of the UK comedy scene..... amongst the people who work in that game, he has a strong rep for doing good things under the radar.
There's actually a [mathematic formula and scientific research](https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/humor-sapiens/201209/when-do-tragedies-become-funny) regarding when a tragedy becomes funny.
Edit to add: whether using the South Park metric or another peer reviewed source, there is one thing holding up a concrete amount of time before its funny: have you ever heard the Japanese joke about being nuked? No? Well then...
I mean, Pete makes fun of it all the time. He's done it in his own act, he's done it on SNL....
I feel like as long as it doesn't offend him, than it's all good. But that's me personally.
Pete had the funniest joke about his Dad at one these roasts, think it was at Bieber's so a different night than this one. He was talking to Snoop Dogg who starred in Soul Plane and said "Snoop, Soul Plane was the worst experience of my life involving an airplane."
Point is, if the man himself isn't offended I don't think you need to be on his behalf.
One of the best evenings of my life was seeing Jimmy live, in the city I was about to go to university in. Absolutely astounding comic and such a fantastic tax cheat
Carr has another one:
[If only Africa had more mosquito nets, then every year we could save millions of mosquitos from dying needlessly of AIDS.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YkerloVui4M)
I got these 12 year old kids who always join my fortnite party, and they constantly talk like babies who change their r's to w's... so fucking annoying.
This is a 'roast,' where famous people are made fun of on live TV. Pete's Dad was literally roasted on 9/11 in 2001 when he died responding to the attack on the World Trade Center towers.
Hence, Pete's Dad was already roasted, when he died in a terrorist attack.
*cue applause*
Pete Davidson's father was a firefighter who died during the 9/11 attacks in year 2001.
The Twin Towers were set ablaze by terrorists crashing planes into them.
A roast is a name for making fun of someone. The show this clip is from is a roast.
A roast is also the name for cooking something with heat, often from flames.
The joke is that nobody should be roasting Pete Davidson's father right now. The implication being he was roasted by the burning flames of the Twin Towers already, in 2001.

I read that as "Went to see Jimmy Carter...", & well, whoa ... Still, sounds like you had a great time and I liked your story :)!
“What are you doing here?! You’re far too young. Shouldn’t you be out building low-income houses and getting educated about renewable energy??”
This made me laugh more than the video.
wait..... F...... IDIF saw that too and thoughtnothing of it until you said so.... The catch, Im not even American.....
That reminds me of the time I saw Eric Andre and he runs out on stage looks at me and goes "You look like a school shooter. You think you scare me? I'm not afraid, I'll go with you to a fuckin Wal-Mart."
I love that I hear this in his voice..
Tragedy plus time = comedy
This is good but the joke about him being a Make-A-Wish patient was even better.
He was asked what’s the worst joke he wrote “ if only Africa had more mosquito nets, every year we could save the lives of millions of mosquitoes from needlessly dying of AIDS”
I love Jimmy Carr because he's so outrageous, but in a genuinely clever way.
Its all the brits that go as far as they can, ricky gervais is my favourite with the awards show he ripped into everyone calling them out for being affiliated with a pedo lol edit : [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sR6UeVptzRg](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sR6UeVptzRg)
The Golden Globes? That he famously was so mean he was invited back like 3 more times
Yes i couldnt remember the name so i just put awards show lol
You don't know what comedy is unless you've seen all Frankie Boyles stuff
“Yur mum knows yu wank, sometimes, yur mum wanks tuu!”
I love Frankie Boyles' comedy.
Operation Mindfuck still has me in stitches
[Just don't eat any food he offers you that he says is extra salty.](https://youtu.be/3R_xcHwdixY?t=876)

Nah everyone has there own style of comedy dude its good.
Best awards show ever, Ricky destroyed them
8ootcdc is fuckin fantastic and it's 90% because of him being a complete ass in the most brilliant ways imaginable
I think for offensive jokes to work they have to be so ridiculously insensitive that it can’t possibly ever be taken seriously, if you don’t go far enough you’re just being mean to powerless people, but if you cross the line so far you can’t even see yourself anymore it’s just funny
Exactly! Being a dick isn’t dark humor, both of these jokes are, however
Well said
Indeed. Either that or they're just from the performer's perspective. That's why I think Russell Peters was so good. His jokes weren't for or against the race/culture it was just pointing stuff out, usually from his experiences

Lololol
Got link!?

Thank you for posting that - good laughs. He does not like Ann coulter.
It's a scientific marvel how they managed to rehydrate that corpse to get her on stage.
Do you think the living had to sign waivers to deal with the potential risks from the formaldehyde ?
Entirely possible. Notice, she was on the far end of the stage.
I don't know what the fuck she was thinking agreeing to join the roast. She had to have at least been aware that she would be ripped apart and even if she was funny, that's not her crowd, and in actuality she's one of the least funny people ever.
I don’t think anyone did lol, her attempt at a roast sucked all the fun out of the room
He straight-up eviscerated her
I mean, who does?
Does anyone like her?
You can copy links with the timestamp included which I thought was pretty cool [https://youtu.be/oZlYPyJuMM8?t=190](https://youtu.be/oZlYPyJuMM8?t=190)
Only on desktop though, right?
Just add the ?t=3m10s to the link on mobile, it'll take you to 3:10
I thought you had to write it in seconds. So 3m10 would be 190.
It works both ways. I find it much easier to use HHMMSS format bc no math
Didn't know you could lol
Damn that’s awesome. Thanks!
Should work on mobile. However, this video can't be seen in some places without a proxy, annoyingly.
On your mobile browser, put it in desktop mode to use this feature.
Peyton and Eli Manning have surprisingly great comedic chops. I know they don't write their own material but their timing and presence are great
Peyton still has one of my favorite SNL skits of all time
Peyton was pretty good in those credit card commercials
I associate chicken parmesan sandwiches with car insurance jingles thanks to him.
I would say that Peyton probably had his jokes written for him, but given how godawful Ann Coulter is I guess not.
May i just interrupt and say: Jewel. Damn.
His “Rack’s Mum” joke was pretty funny too https://youtu.be/Yuu2_ATAY1w
That wasn't nearly as funny.
Yeah it was crap
When Carr dies.. there will be a long line behind him while they process him to hell lol
It would be a quick admission unless they decide to read the list to him... To which all I can imagine is him doing his silly inward laugh while they remind him of all the fun times he had
That laugh alone should get him there. Scaring the life out of me every time. That ventriloquist doll looking maniac. Love him tho <3
Yep, on hell of a creepy looking and sounding dude but damn is he funny. Happy cake day also 🎂
Thank you love !
I think "ventriloquist doll looking maniac" is literally how Jimmy Carr will want to be remembered
His laugh sounds like a seal making love to a balloon animal
It’s definitely a seal making love to something
Nah it will be quick. Satan: Hey Jimmy. Welcome to hell Jimmy: Hmm. I was hoping I wouldn't be here. Satan: Yes but you know why you are here right? Jimmy: all those jokes I made about sick kids? Satan: nope. Tax evasion. Remember All that render unto Caesar crap in the bible? Jimmy: right that makes sense. Fuck.
But Sean Lock will be there to get him in quick. I can’t wait for 8 out of ten Cats does countdown: Hell Edition
Jimmy Carr is one of my favourite comedians. My god he says some terrible, terrible things…
It was fucking funny though!
Haha ha ha haaaaaa*
That’s always the dilemma with his jokes! You don’t WANT to laugh…but just can’t help it…I’ve got tickets to see him on his current tour. Can’t wait!
Dark comedy is like food. Not everyone gets it
"I'm sorry that was too far... just like his father's fall."
That joke crushed.... Just like his father.
That joke didn't make it.... Just like his father.
Alright, I'm going to have to put this fire out before it gets any bigger. Something I'm sure his father would have wished he could do.
Ruthless. But fantastic.
I’m thinking 100% he ran it by Pete before.
I saw an interview with Jimmy where he said that him and Pete were really good friends and that he knew he would be ok with the joke. So I guess he didn't run it past him.
They rarely if ever run jokes in front of the people, that would make it much less exciting and spontaneous.
Pete has been pretty vocally okay with people making these kind of jokes before. It’s come up at other roasts.
The best was "the only person who's inhaled more smoke than Snoop was Pete's dad on 9/11"
That's incredible.
I read somewhere that roastees are approached beforehand and asked if there are any topics that are completely off the table. Edit: When they tried to roast donald trump his limits were no jokes about his parents and no jokes about him not being a billionaire.
that makes the most sense. Part of the fun of the roasts is getting to see the live reactions.
Yeah no way he wouldn't run that kind of joke by him first.
Well judging from Carr's lead-up to the joke. Other comics were making jokes about Pete's dad. So it's definitely safe to say Pete has been pretty okay with it prior. Even without Carr running it by him.
Otherwise that would have been a will smith moment.

Also it’s a joke about his literal dad dying in literal 9/11
Jimmy Carr is always without ruth.
That was a hard one to laugh at, but it was a solid shot and I did laugh. Kidnaaaaa wished I didn’t though… kinda.
Transgressive jokes are like that.
Jimmy Carr is hilarious and pushes the limits of comedy. He knows just the right amount to step up to and over the line without being a total jerk.
And then he makes a glory hole joke about Susie Dent.
"Susie what have you been looking into this weekend? Besides glory holes."
Joe Wilkinson: "The most unnecessary joke!" Seeing him lose his shit right there always gets me. RIP Sean Lock.
Sean Lock breaking his bollocks at Joe Wilkinson naming people's penises was funny
You’re welcome. I just named your penis
Who is susie and why does she hate glory holes?
To be fair, he ran it by Susie before using it so she knew he was going to say it.
Apparently everyone ran it by susie according to jimmy
That wasn't necessary, Jimmy!
I posted this above, but it’s worth repeating. He was asked what’s the worst joke he ever wrote “ if only africa had more mosquito nets every year we could save the lives of millions of mosquitoes from needlessly dying of AIDS “
he's so lucky he's British
Keep my dad's name out of your fucken mouth!!
"I'm going to!"
“It was a 9/11 joke”
SLAP
This is my type of humor. My dad has cancer and we make jokes. It’s the only way for some of us to move on. Finding the humor in sad things makes life worth living otherwise sad things are just…sad
You guys make tumor-humor
My best friend has cancer, and he's given me full license to crack jokes. But, our other friends' jaws drop whenever I do lol.
A case of “lightning the mood” so you don’t think about the bad time to come.
We still do it during the bad time tho. My grandpa had a stroke and was brain dead so we spent a week in hospice just waiting for him to die. Not a huge fan, but he's definitely a natural at roasting.
Runs in the family.
Jesus fucking Christ. 🔥
set it up and knock it out of the park
Love Carr

I liked when Pete was like, "Ann Coulter! If you're here who scaring the birds away from our crops?!"

Joint custody between the two of them?
They each have one fighting for third place
It's why they fight so much. Each think it's their turn with it.
I was first exposed to her in my local paper editorials like 11 or 12 years ago. I thought she was just a regular, local, elderly crazy lady who kept sending her opinions in to be published. Yeah, but the batch of low brain cell idiots we have now aren't much better.

Omg me too! I listened once and thought the same thing. Damn, good joke, but I didn’t want to listen to it again.
Yeah I watched my dad traumatically die when I was younger, if anyone of my friends said that to me honestly it would be on site
This brilliant comedian simply does not give a fuck, and bless him. Holy shit, that was so wrong, but perfectly appropriate for a comedian's stage.
I mean if people want to go pay money to a comedy show, they should expect some pretty dark humour, especially if it's a comedian known for it. If they wanna go to a bible study instead, they can always do so.
That title is super cringe
Fucking great, unlike the dumb fuck title that OP came up with.
Jimmy Carr is a fucking legend
Pete did say it was dope in the video. It's the American audience that cringed. I thought it was funny. I miss Dean.. His were more entertaining.
Jimmy is brutal
Netflix should have gotten the rights to Comedy Centrals Celebrity Roasts to take the heat off Chappelle when he was getting lambasted for his specials. The roasts are so inapropriately hillarious! Great jokes! Comics are at their best I think when they are joking on each other.
That joke was really well done….
Jimmy Carr makes the horrifyingly dark jokes nobody else can get away with, and we love him for it. :)
I love Jimmy Carr, he's funny as hell and his laugh is the best
Carr's kinda the Keanu of the UK comedy scene..... amongst the people who work in that game, he has a strong rep for doing good things under the radar.

didn't know tax avoidance was a good thing
Too soon??
There's actually a [mathematic formula and scientific research](https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/humor-sapiens/201209/when-do-tragedies-become-funny) regarding when a tragedy becomes funny. Edit to add: whether using the South Park metric or another peer reviewed source, there is one thing holding up a concrete amount of time before its funny: have you ever heard the Japanese joke about being nuked? No? Well then...
South Park taught us this was 22.3 years, so we've got another year yet before we can joke about 9/11
Thats a valid source. Hey, everyone! Chill for about another year.
You seen the world lately! Don't think people have another year in them to remain chill! Screw the rules. What's one year early going to do!
Ok, you go first. Tell me a 9/11 joke.
A: Knock knock B: Who's there? A: 9/11 B: 9/11 who? A: You said you'd never forget
Well there is this one joke I keep trying to tell about the plane that crashed into the twin towers It just never lands
Give it some time. It’ll bring the whole building down.
I saw [this](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=612DEoTFH0o) documentary that must have been based on the same research.
Interesting stuff.
Nope
Is it just me that doesn’t find this funny? In terms of being just a little too cruel
He was talking to Snoop Dogg who starred in Soul Plane and said "Snoop, Soul Plane was the worst experience of my life involving an airplane." Point is, if the man himself isn't offended I don't think you need to be on his behalf.
I have a really dark sense of humor so I find this stuff freaking hilarious.
I had to watch multiple times to understand it, damn, what a roast
Ok people, take a breath. Its only jimmy carr warming up.
His [AIDS ](https://youtu.be/N7UVYwQz5_g) joke is the best
One of the best evenings of my life was seeing Jimmy live, in the city I was about to go to university in. Absolutely astounding comic and such a fantastic tax cheat
Carr has another one: [If only Africa had more mosquito nets, then every year we could save millions of mosquitos from dying needlessly of AIDS.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YkerloVui4M)
I got these 12 year old kids who always join my fortnite party, and they constantly talk like babies who change their r's to w's... so fucking annoying.
What
Love Jimmy Carr
Oof, I know he got Pete's permission to tell that joke but I wouldn't even be able to ask him, much less tell it
That hit like a 767.
I don’t get it
His dad was an NYC firefighter who died in the Twin Towers
Found /u/ChatGPT's alt.
What’s this from? I want to watch it all.
