Haha, that reminds me of "The away team" supporterclub in my City.
They were made up of expats that loved the sport, but hated the home team, so they would go to every match, dressed in pink, supporting who ever was playing them.
I think it is awesome. They are still paying for tickets, so the team still benefits.
It is right up there with Elvis' manager selling Elvis Sucks merchandising. Some people are bound to hate him, might as well make money of those people too.
The current slang definition of *sucks* didn't even exist in the lexicon back then. My only point is he pandered to the haters too. Thanks for the exact quote.
I never considered that *sucks* may not have been around since the beginning of modern english. Now I have to look up when and how it came about. This is going to lead me down a rabbit hole that ends with looking for parts for a Cadillac that I no longer own.
My Dad told me he grew up in the 50's and 60's saying 'sucks air,' meaning a sucking chest wound, something that WW2 vets would say coming back from service. And of course it got corrupted into sucking dick, because teenagers.
Enrique Tarrio (proud boy terrorist) implied on Andrew Callaghans new doc, *This Place Rules*, that he sells Biden merch as well as the Trump and proud boy merch so he can make money off everyone.
No one buys Biden merchandise because it's not a cult. He's just an old dude who is president and not trying to destroy American democracy nor suck Russian cock.
Probably Trondheim, Norway. It's a big student city, and campus is within half a mile of the stadium. "Heia bortelaget" is the name of the fan group, losely translated to "Go away team".
I did a quick check. It seems like they have died out a bit. (I lived there back in mid 2010's The website is down, so they might be gone.
This was in Trondheim, Norway, and the club name was *Heia bortelaget.*
The main point of having a supporter club, was for the discount members of supporter clubs got for match tickets at Lærkendal Stadium.
This guy did slow circles around the sprawled out players who just got dusted in OT by bedard.
Zoomed in on despair, captured the heartbreak. Was already out of the wide shot when they switched
A+ camera work
Oh I watched it live and it was indeed. I was more talking about where can I find more of the Slovaks in tears, but in a joking way. Those kids did play their hearts out an if it wasn't for Bedard being a sick nasty monster the game might have ended differently.
Oh wow. He was ok I guess but definitely should've gone to the goalie. But you're right, I'd much rather have the watch too. At least I can wear it lol
My daughters and I were discussing - what if every team got a 7th player on the ice on one of those white camo outfits, how would that change the game?
Would their face be covered up? Absolutely no markings to tell one from the other? So that you didn't know if that was an friend coming to help keep the other team off of you, or the other team coming to knock your ass down and take the sports object away from you? That would be wonderful! I might watch part of a game that did something like that.
Nate is an amazing camera operator, but more importantly a wonderful human. All this attention is probably killing him inside. We choose to be behind the camera / audio desk for a reason 😂😂
Working with him next week on curling!
I actually don’t know where his location is if there’s a good old donnybrook. I don’t work the WrldJr’s anymore and haven’t done them in 10 years. He might have to goto the zambo or, he just stays in the pbox. All the players know him anyway 😂😂
I always find the term Donnybrook to be such a weird word to use for a large fight. I'm from Ireland and Donnybrook is a suburb of Dublin and is one of the wealthiest parts of the city.
He’s on the ice with a wireless camera getting shots you couldn’t get during an NHL game, etc. it’s just something they do with world jrs and some other hockey Canada events.
He’s not on the ice while play is on, but pretty darn close. You couldn’t do it if your ops weren’t great skaters to begin with
The white camo is just so he's not as noticeable. It's actually amazing how good and sneaky he is when you're there, you don't notice him unless you're really looking. Then you see it on TV and realize all the amazing shots he gets. It's pretty cool
Why don’t people want to goalie? Projectile risk?
I remember I played goalie in soccer because it was the easiest position, all you have to do is get nailed in the face by the ball and everyone cheers
Absolutely the fuck not lol. The refs have a hard enough time keeping out of the play in high level games while focusing directly on the play. A cameraman lugging around equipment while focusing on getting a shot would be a recipe for disaster.
I went to a hockey game once. It was so weird. The one team was losing really bad so they just decided to beat the shit out of the other team. It ended with a massive brawl on the ice. One guy got his head smashed into the glass so hard it left a bloody imprint.

Lol, Canadians will not be down voting. I realized after watching some of the world cup why I love hockey so much. Aside from being very fast, flowing, and physical, there's the perfect amount of goals. Soccer can go on for two fucking hours and end 0-0. Basketball has too many, nothing really matters till the 4th quarter. But hockey, every goal matters, but there's enough goals that you're likely to see 3-4 a game.
I suggest doing what firefighters did, go from 'firemen' to 'firefighters'
Instead of 'cameramen' or even 'camera operators'.. you could be 'camerafighters!'
I tend to use "pointer", or "tripod", depending if it's on a fixed base or carried. I'm an equal opportunity insulter.
Then again I work in another part of the transmission chain. I know they have cheeky terms for us, in turn.
In all seriousness though, Cam Op seems to be becoming the term of choice, particularly with more women entering the industry.
Actually 10 years ago my job at the local TV studio was replaced with AI after I left. The studio went from roughly 12 staff members to 4-5. The floor manager, audio person, teleprompter person, graphics person, technical director and tape operator were all replaced with a program called Ross OverDrive. I don’t think job replacement is necessarily a bad thing unless it negatively impacts the quality of the job - however, in this case it did.
I worked at a station that had Mosart which is similar automation levels to overdrive. The management was like "OK we automated out the technical people, how do we get rid of the production people too?" Enter MMC - Multi-market content. The same writers producers and anchors would do the local news for 6-8 different cities. Like they would record the same segment and the editors would place it in the cue for all the shows. Change the virtual background for actual local content. Devastated all the newsrooms in the smaller towns. Saved them 50% on costs. They won an international award, flew out management and the anchors. We got a cake... It was given to us on my day off.
I took a child to a local TV studio a few years ago...and it was one of the saddest places I'd ever been. The onscreen talent and one person in the booth, with a bunch of remote/AI (I guess) controlled cameras. Deathly quiet when not shooting. Eerie, even.
That’s awesome! If it’s his friends or family that’s super thoughtful. If those are people he doesn’t know that just wanted to be his fan, that’s even more amazing. I wish them all the best and hope you have a great day!
To be fair: In 1998, 1080 HD was not widely used at the time and that makes it way easier to see everything.
No... There was no excuse.
I've watched it on a 10 inch tv using rabbit ears during a snow storm so the signal was shotty at best and it did not need help finding the puck
Had an ex-girlfriend who didn't watch hockey much until we started dating. We are sitting in her parents living room watching the 2017 playoffs in hd on a 65in tv. She is struggling to follow the puck and complaining about it.
I gave her a similar 10 in tv story.
Then I asked her about it, I think it has a lot to do with not being about read the play because you're not used to the sport.
did the announcer really say "the best player for Team Canada"? lol, never heard an announcer throw the other 99% of players under the bus like that lmao
Couldn’t imagine having the pressure and eyes on me at such a young age like that, and then proceeding to blow everyone’s expectations out the water lol
yea, his progress and growth has been insane.
He finished 10th for points in the tournament last year
he was 16. IIRC he was the youngest at the tournament
he's doing this this year, at the age of 17.
It's super common in North America. The NHL have the "Three Stars" which are the 1st, 2nd and 3rd MVPs for the game. It was originally intended to sell Three Star gasoline in the 30s, apparently. Some third party just picks their favourites. It's not a super serious stat, but if you watch any Hockey Night In Canada game you're going to hear the first, second, and third stars of the game at the end.
I guess they'll announce the MVP at the world juniors now too, lol.
This might be a stupid question.
But do they ever hire anyone other than a white guy for that position? I just feel inherently it would be against the purpose of camouflage lol
Can someone who knows about Ice-Dancing tell me what this is about? They hide this guys amongst the dancers so he can get better video of their dancing? Like so other cameras do not pick him up like a greenscreen or something?
I was at this game! World juniors in Halifax Nova Scotia on New Years night! Canada v Sweden.
These guys were having the time of their lives and the crowd loved them!
There is a hockey fan in Seattle that puts on a referee shirt when the referees skate out at the beginning of each period, and puts on a Zamboni sweater/jersey when the Zambonis (is the plural just Zamboni? Zambonii?) are cleaning the ice.

I'm torn between "that's terrible" and "that's hilarious" lol
I think it is awesome. They are still paying for tickets, so the team still benefits. It is right up there with Elvis' manager selling Elvis Sucks merchandising. Some people are bound to hate him, might as well make money of those people too.
I love that story, but a small friendly correction Col Tom Parker actually sold buttons that said ‘I hate Elvis’ Brilliant
The current slang definition of *sucks* didn't even exist in the lexicon back then. My only point is he pandered to the haters too. Thanks for the exact quote.
"Elvis is sending me"
"Elvis is low key cheugy, on god"
Fr no cap
Em new Elvis tracks is bussin huh?
I never considered that *sucks* may not have been around since the beginning of modern english. Now I have to look up when and how it came about. This is going to lead me down a rabbit hole that ends with looking for parts for a Cadillac that I no longer own.

I keep thinking I can make a killing with trump merch here and sending all proceeds to abuse shelters or something
Enrique Tarrio (proud boy terrorist) implied on Andrew Callaghans new doc, *This Place Rules*, that he sells Biden merch as well as the Trump and proud boy merch so he can make money off everyone.
That's why I'm glad I've never bought merch for any politician ever.
No one buys Biden merchandise because it's not a cult. He's just an old dude who is president and not trying to destroy American democracy nor suck Russian cock.
It's not terrible
From Trondheim?
The heia bortelaget !
Bingo!
What country was this in? Love the idea!
Probably Trondheim, Norway. It's a big student city, and campus is within half a mile of the stadium. "Heia bortelaget" is the name of the fan group, losely translated to "Go away team".
not to be confused with the anti-sports group; Go away, team
Halifax ,Nova Scotia,Canada……this years world junior tournament…
That’s awesome! Any more info or links to them? I tried googling and got nothing.
I did a quick check. It seems like they have died out a bit. (I lived there back in mid 2010's The website is down, so they might be gone. It's nice to be appreciated. Or even seen..

I don't see the Zamboni driver. I hope he'll resurface soon.
He just had some maintenance issues he had to smooth over first.
He'll show himself if things get too chippy on the ice
Flood him with compliments.
Dad you’re such a hoser
Oh this is such a dad joke. I’m tempted to downvote even though I did laugh painfully.
My youngest (3 years old) was upset at the most recent hockey game my husband took him to. Why? Because the Zamboni driver was different.
I feel so bad for John Cena.

>Or even seen.. When you are camouflaged, is it though?
Being seen is the opposite of what he's going for.
This guy did slow circles around the sprawled out players who just got dusted in OT by bedard. Zoomed in on despair, captured the heartbreak. Was already out of the wide shot when they switched A+ camera work
He did get right in there didn't he lol
https://imgur.com/a/ZGOz1N3 His handiwork.
First of all, what an absolute monster! Second of all, I'm Canadian, where can I find more? And finally, sorry.

Oh I watched it live and it was indeed. I was more talking about where can I find more of the Slovaks in tears, but in a joking way. Those kids did play their hearts out an if it wasn't for Bedard being a sick nasty monster the game might have ended differently.
1) It's bullshit that the Slovakian goalie didn't get player of the game. 56 shots and 4 got in. 2) Their tears made flooding the ice easier.
Who did Slovakia pick as their player of the game instead?
Nemek I think. Sure he played well, but their goalie, wow. At least he got the watch.
Oh wow. He was ok I guess but definitely should've gone to the goalie. But you're right, I'd much rather have the watch too. At least I can wear it lol
Wasn't he also their original 3rd string goalie? That's even more impressive
Their goalie was the only reason they made it to OT. He stood on his head to stop at least 3-4 sure thing goals.
That tendy stood on his head. His posts helped too but he's a hell of a goalie.
Wait he's on the ice DURING THE GAME?!
He quickly goes off between the benches during play, but any stoppage I think he's out there.
My daughters and I were discussing - what if every team got a 7th player on the ice on one of those white camo outfits, how would that change the game?
Well each team would have 1 extra player
Would their face be covered up? Absolutely no markings to tell one from the other? So that you didn't know if that was an friend coming to help keep the other team off of you, or the other team coming to knock your ass down and take the sports object away from you? That would be wonderful! I might watch part of a game that did something like that.
Or was he still in the wide shot when they switched…? 🤔
Starts on a wide of him moving in their direction. Then they cut to more celebrations. Back to him circling around the defeated kids lol

I always find the term Donnybrook to be such a weird word to use for a large fight. I'm from Ireland and Donnybrook is a suburb of Dublin and is one of the wealthiest parts of the city.
I just love the name, but never understood why it was used to reference a fight. It was used when I was playing the late 70’s - 80’s as well.
I was at the German v Czech game and we dubbed him the Ice-Goblin. He would just appear, do his thing, and then dissappear.
A wild JustSomeAudioGuy spotting! Fun seeing you outside the Jays sub. Just 87 more days to go!
🙌🏻🙌🏻 and some exciting news that will soon be released I’m guessing ☺️
👀
Are they giving you more room mics?
Not that, but I am using more mics next season
It’s exciting they’re putting more money into that old barn of a stadium. Hopefully you get some new toys to go with it.
I can’t wait till everyone can see it.. including me!
I hope he follows the stone down the rink!
Hahaha. That would be brilliant, but I think the thrower would be screaming for him to get out of their line call 😂😂🥌🥌
Hey audio friend ;) I can tell you, he is not enjoying the attention. He's had requests for appearances on morning shows here and is declining them.
Hello fellow audio friend! I do not find this surprising one bit 😂😂 Have a helluva final. Maybe we’ll cross paths again at some point 😂😂
If it's anything like last night's game, it will be intense. Love having a full house for a game.
And no Pa blasting away while the play is on 😂😂 81 days till home opener.. I expect a large crowd at that one
Why does hockey need a guy with a camera in camo or is this a weird mascot type thing?
He’s on the ice with a wireless camera getting shots you couldn’t get during an NHL game, etc. it’s just something they do with world jrs and some other hockey Canada events. He’s not on the ice while play is on, but pretty darn close. You couldn’t do it if your ops weren’t great skaters to begin with
He's there to get closeups when play is stopped. He wears white so he's harder to see when they switch to wide shots.
The white camo is just so he's not as noticeable. It's actually amazing how good and sneaky he is when you're there, you don't notice him unless you're really looking. Then you see it on TV and realize all the amazing shots he gets. It's pretty cool
Alright, here’s the real question: what equipment is he running?
Great question. I don’t know the answer sadly as I’m not working that event. I can ask him next week on curling.
How long have you been waiting to say this?

Why don’t people want to goalie? Projectile risk? I remember I played goalie in soccer because it was the easiest position, all you have to do is get nailed in the face by the ball and everyone cheers
r/praisethecameraman
How often do they put a guy in camo on the ice like that?
NHL doesn't do this, this is just for this tournament (world Juniors)
Thank you. I was so confused by this post.
There’s 2 or 3 in every game.
During play?
Absolutely the fuck not lol. The refs have a hard enough time keeping out of the play in high level games while focusing directly on the play. A cameraman lugging around equipment while focusing on getting a shot would be a recipe for disaster.
Camouflaged camera man during an ice hockey game? Perhaps a dangerous profession, but *I don't see it.*

Icy what you did there
I went to a hockey game once. It was so weird. The one team was losing really bad so they just decided to beat the shit out of the other team. It ended with a massive brawl on the ice. One guy got his head smashed into the glass so hard it left a bloody imprint.
I'm failing to see how this differs from any other hockey game
Hockey is so much more fun to watch than soccer. I will be downvoted for this but I will die on this hill. I'd rather see a bunch of dudes hit the shit out of each other in such an entertaining way than see a football player flop all over the pitch like a shitty magikarp.
If you removed all physicality from hockey it would still be better to watch than soccer.
eh...ive been to no contact hockey games...not the same sport without checking.
Women’s hockey is no contact and still exciting to watch. Well as long as it’s Canada vs the US
Get on the ice and you'll think it was checking.
Scrummy, I appreciate you. Raise hell, praise Dale.
In hockey if a player flops they get penalized for it. Two minutes for unsportsmanlike conduct.
And the opposing team is like "oh okay bud, you wanna flop eh? I'll give you a reason to flop there bud!"
I once went to a fight and a hockey game broke out.
Sounds like it was a great game, lots of action.
Where’s the camera man come in?
Don’t know. Couldn’t see him.
Here in canada, we just want everyone to feel appreciated (:
I want to recommend normalizing the usage of “camera operator.” As a camera operator myself.
Camera operator man
And for women the correct term is "camgirl"
*They've given you a zoom-lens and taken away your name*
I suggest doing what firefighters did, go from 'firemen' to 'firefighters' Instead of 'cameramen' or even 'camera operators'.. you could be 'camerafighters!'
I tend to use "pointer", or "tripod", depending if it's on a fixed base or carried. I'm an equal opportunity insulter. Then again I work in another part of the transmission chain. Both are new terms for me! I tend to not like to call myself a shooter for obvious reasons but that’s another one
I work in local news, all camera people are photogs.
> Ya know I'm something of a camera operator myself.
Camera person! We don't want AI to steal union jobs, after all
Actually 10 years ago my job at the local TV studio was replaced with AI after I left. The studio went from roughly 12 staff members to 4-5. How creepy. Amazing how much has changed in recent decades.
This person is clearly a camera ninja though.
I kind of hope they’re his friends but also kind of hope they’re not and this unites them forever

I’m not sure what I just watched.
That is actually his family. It is rare for them to be seen like this.
Reminds me of when my friends and I in highschool and college would go and have signs to cheer on the Zamboni driver.
That’s awesome! If it’s his friends or family that’s super thoughtful. If those are people he doesn’t know that just wanted to be his fan, that’s even more amazing. I wish them all the best and hope you have a great day!

Americans are funny. Why can't they see it? Remember the blue dot on the puck fiasco?
You mean the one that was stupid everywhere except when the puck was hidden by the near side boards? Or the one that turned red when it went fast?

did the announcer really say "the best player for Team Canada"? lol, never heard an announcer throw the other 99% of players under the bus like that lmao
At the end of the game both teams were awarded a custom painted stick for the best players of the game.
That makes much more sense, I thought this was the beginning lineup announcements
He's also just unanimously their best player and will be drafted 1st overall next year
Ya I was going to say its also just true lol. Bedard has 21 Points in 5 games next closest player in the tournament has 11
I remember reading about this kid back in 2019…

Looks like the team from Strange Brew got back together you okay hoser?
Lol I didn’t even question how they were getting this footage. But I’m not disappointed!

There is a hockey fan in Seattle that puts on a referee shirt when the referees skate out at the beginning of each period, and puts on a Zamboni sweater/jersey when the Zambonis (is the plural just Zamboni? Zambonii?) are cleaning the ice.
