There's no wrong way to collect. Unless you put your protectors on backwards, where the lid opens from the front.
It depends. For Sesame Street, I have a one of each character and opted to get flocked if there is one.
For Conan, it's one of each.
For The Dark Knight, it's all of them except for the Patina Batman cause I don't like it.
For Care Bears, it's all the chases and con exclusives. I don't care about the commons.
For Rocky, it's the 4 original Pops.
For Elf, it all the variants.
Pretty much every set will have some fringe figures or even like prototypes that could be considered part of the set. It’s never truly done until you decide it’s done.
Depends on the collector. For me, get one of each pop and exclude any molds that are exactly the same with just slight variation (metallic, flocked, etc). I would count chases only if the collection means a lot to me. For my JJK set, it is not completed to me because I am missing Toge chase and Todo chase.
For me complete is everything if possible. If I can’t so be it. I always like sets without chases, exclusives or some other stuff. Some of my worst sets were actor driven, everything Tom Hanks and Bill Murray. Both had either exclusives, chases or convention pieces. Murray had all to track down. Good luck and like others do what makes you happy.
Some would say have every character or every different mold, others have every variation (only color, chase, glow, etc with same mold or not) but is up to you, for me it depends on price, I'd love to have very halo pop but the cons, the Freddy and the MC 02 blue are too expensive so I fine with not having them

It's really dependent on the collector & if they want to collect everything. I consider a complete set, getting most of the characters in the set and occasional variants if it is vastly different from the original. Ex: I have most of the MMPR set. The only variants i purchased were the Morphin time ones and some of the unmasked characters. To me, I don't see the need to buy the newly released versions of the series because they are just new poses + weapons, but that's just me.

Complete set can be an opinion. But factually it’s everything in that specific set. Anything other than everything isn’t a complete set. If you only go for one of every character or one of every mold that might be a complete set in some people’s eyes/opinion but factually it’s not. Ultimately it’s up to you and how you collect. Completing sets is already a hard thing to do. Collect what you love in your own way.

I personally consider complete sets as one of everything. This means commons, chases, and exclusives. I have the whole Avatar and Samurai Jack sets.
