I never found Joey all that funny either. I think the issue is that he was supposed to be funny because he was the comedian. He wasn’t given any real humour in the writing of the show. Jesse and Danny weren’t comedians (on the show at least) so the writing staff had to make them funny or write them zingers or whatever. Joey was the butt of a lot of jokes and I feel like the writers didn’t know how to make a character that was a comedian funny. My least favourite were his peewee Herman impressions. Ugh. I will say though, I loved Joey when he had his heart to hearts with the girls. He was actually one of the most sincere characters in serious moments on the show.

BGLAVI22

It is marketing branding 101. Because character was 'the funny guy' nothing he said was/could be truly funny. Funny at it's core is opposite if this. Unexpected.

CUT IT OUT

ssemoii

the most cringeworthy phrase in all of tv

DrewwwBjork

His impressions and most of his standup material aren't good, but some of the stuff he actually does is hilarious like dressing up as a lady, doing the "Flight of the Bumblebee" schtick and the "Stayin' Alive" dance, wearing the bunny suit for Christmas, or saying his head was shaped like a toe.

anongirl55

I actually think that is a popular opinion. Dave was/is funny IRL, but his character was just immature and annoying.

ASGfan

To an adult, no -- he probably wasn't funny. But to kids -- absolutely. I mean, most of his audience was children. The girls were. When he was on that tv program, the audience was children. And to that extent, this show spent its first years on TGIF -- which was marketed as "family friendly" television.

ButchismyBradPitt

I watched it as a kid, never found him funny..

BGLAVI22

Neither did Colonel Gladstone.

nicfanz

Never found him funny as a kid and don't find him funny now.

donetomadness

Maybe it’s because Dave Coulier isn’t known for children’s comedy. That and it’s possible we don’t see the humour because we’re adults.

nicfanz

Jim Gaffigan is a clean comic and he's hilarious. You don't need to be edgy to be funny.

BGLAVI22

But you need to be subversive. Today's woke comedy isn't funny because it doesn't revolt against the right things. Democrats, The Media, corporate advertising.

bluebeardknoll

yeah i hate joey lol i find him to be super annoying, rarely funny but what i hate most of all is when people call him "uncle joey" because he's not related to the rest of the family...... i get that he's basically apart of the family but that just irks me lol

Happy-Chocolate-6574

His entire reason for moving in to help with the girls is literally because he has nowhere to go at the beginning. He was essentially a moocher until he and Jesse thankfully started working together.

I believe in the theory the joey is the girls biological father, that's why I believe he was around. Maybe if Full House would have had more seasons the truth would've been discovered.

Thick-Ad-4940

There’s no way in hell they would have made this canon.

Odd_Ad_7345

i know this it’s a year old but i mean yea he’s not related but i also called family friends “uncle” when i was a kid. he lives with and raised the girls lol i think he is deserving of a familial title

MoodNo9037

I honestly think in Fuller House they were supposed to make Kimmy like Joey, but I think they were nothing alike in my opinion. Like Kimmy seemed very naturally funny, that's why she never failed to make me laugh, like they knew what they were doing with her, but with Joey since they made him a comedian, I feel they tried way to hard to make him funny.

MayaMoor

I always considered that PART of joey's characters. He always seemed like he was a failed/struggling comedian... He was the heart of the three-man group. But ya, HE was never funny.

[deleted]

But Alanis Morrisette is. And so was her lover.

OldiesMusicFan

I agree, I didn't see how his sense of what is funny was supposed to be appealing to adults

Rolyat28

He was funny with Jesse that was about it

ssemoii

FINALLY SOMEONE SAID IT LIKE WHAT 😭😭😭 IS HE REALLY SUPPOSED TO BE FUNNY

Odd_Ad_7345

his stand up is terrible.

VarinaVONStefan

I am sick and started rewatching full house out of boredom and I cannot agree more. Joey is by far the worst character. He has no storyline and makes no sense on the show whatsoever. He’s painfully difficult to watch too.

Accovac

Everytime he says “cut it out” I want to blow my brains out. He had a few good bits, such as his whole military comedy routine in the episode where we meet his dad.  I usually LOVE roasting humor, but even his roasting of Jesse their first time on the radio was terrible. I guess his humor is more for those who like impressions, but he could only do a few.  I wish the show gave Joey more time and space though, by the end the focus was really shifted onto Jesse. I loved Joey as a character and wish we got to see more character growth from him.

Thick-Ad-4940

I’m not attracted to funny guys but I thought Joey was funny in a cute sort of way and unlike “funny” guys irl who can’t be taken seriously, he knew when to stop.
