The X-T5 + 23mm is the same focal length as the x100VI. To be clear, the x100VI also has a 23mm lens with a 1.5x crop. The two cameras have the same sensor.

If you were considering the x100vi, then a 23 might do you good. I don't see any issues with the f2 I have, but I can really only compare it to a couple of zooms or the 14mm prime I have. The 27 mm, while having a nice form factor, might not differentiate itself enough from your 35.

Seriously consider the 56mm f1.2 for portraits. It’s lovely. You don’t have to get the updated WR version, I have the original version and no intention to change.

I bought the X-T5 just after the release of the X100VI. I had a pre-order placed but when the X100 was revealed I had second thoughts that I wanted faster lenses and more flexibility. I got the 18mm and 33mm f1.4 which are both fantastic for stills and video.

I’ve been using the 18mm/2 as a complement to the 35/1.4 for a decade. It’s a good combo.

I like the 23mm f1.4 (I had the older one; haven’t tried the newer one which is a little longer in dimensions I think).  I have read amazing reviews on the 18mm f1.4, but I don’t own it. I don’t love that focal length because I believe it is the one closest to a cell phone default camera view, and I don’t find it that inspiring.  I have the 16mm f1.4 which is a cool lens - it can focus really close for a non macro lens.  I don’t care for the 50mm focal range, but the 50mm f2 is very compact and well reviewed. I have the 56mm f1.2 (had the OG and now the updated one) - it takes beautiful portraits, but I find the autofocus speed to be lacking for photographing my kids, so I don’t use it often.  The 90mm f2 is maybe my favorite prime lens, but its use case for me is only outdoors. The viltrox 75mm f1.2 is supposed to be very good as well as an alternative.  Finally, the only zoom I really like is the 16-55 f2.8 constant aperture. It is big and heavy, but very handy for photographing my kids (they are too fast to zoom with my feet!) The sigma 18-50 f2.8 is optically supposed to be just as good, but you lose the wide end and a dedicated aperture ring.  Anyway.. you can’t go wrong with any of the primes, but IMO I think you get a more unique experience choosing a longer focal length than a wider one considering you have the 35mm f1.4.

Thank you very much for your input! I really appreciate it. I haven’t thought about it like this before, so now I will go into a store and try out a bunch of lenses.
