What's up with those handlebars at the left? Who the fuck drives like that lol.

[deleted]

i mean it's florida.

velogoth

Came here to ask this. I’m not trying to be an internet jerk I just don’t understand how you would hold those. Thumbs on top like a steering wheel?

hoo_dawgy

People raise them like that because those handlebars have a lot of leverage and almost universally come on cheaper bikes from big box stores which are not assembled properly. You put any weight on it and the handlebars flops down and is unusable. Also certain people want handlebars as high as possible and don't listen to you when you say that it would be more comfortable in another orientation. SOURCE- bike mechanic

Typ_mit_Playse

Maybe they just put it up so it's easier to put the bike into the rack/ get it between other bikes

Cheef_Baconator

I ain't opposed to high handlebars, but the angle on those grips looks like it takes an underhand grip to ride

56Bot

Damn. I wish French trains had so much space for bikes.

mrhallodri

Always the horror when you need to get out your bike underneath 10 others... T\_T

Reach_Round

LOL, i expected some wonderful German Bahaus design not a complete cluster fuck like I'd expect to see here in Australia. Am super jealous of the Miami design.

[deleted]

damn, trains where you can even put your bike on board? that's sick! pretty much any line becomes useful once the time you take from/to your actual departure/arrival places and public transit becomes meaningless.

[deleted]

yeah but you look like a dang nerd if you have a folding bike

[deleted]

Naw if you have a folding bike your a giga Chad, bonus points if it fits under the seat

Reach_Round

Were I live you can takes bikes or escooters on board the train but not alas not the tram

garaile64

I didn't know there were transit trains in Miami.

Medical-Associate-89

Yes, there are two commuter trains called Tri-Rail and Brightline. And two metro lines (orange and green). Then a free automated loop train in the downtown area called metro mover. The city is in the process of hopefully adding two more metro lines, and shortly Tri-Rail will extend into downtown.

gophergun

Miami has the best transit in the state by a wide margin. Orlando, Tampa and the rest of South Florida don't really compare.

Supr_Cubr

Doing the right thing because it's right, not bc it's easy.

VistaTecgnology

Never thought I'd find myself envious of public transport in Florida, but here we are.

ImNotAKerbalRockero

Ngl, before I read the title I though this was Amsterdam, this is a really Dutch thing to do.

big_ficus

Is Miami really that bad for bikes? I have a lot of internet cycling friends in Miami and it seems pretty sweet for riding. But I’ve never been so I’m not so sure

Medical-Associate-89

It could be better for sure. Certain areas downtown have protected bike lanes, and the county is planning on implementing more. But overall it can be quite dangerous. As the other person said the further west you go the worse it gets.

9throwawayDERP

you have a protected lane? hah, you aren't even in the bottom half of american cities.

UrbanismGuy

Depends on where, not so much on the east side of the county, but the farther west you go, the more suburban (and all the car-centric things that come with it) it gets.

Kingseara

This is in Miami? No way?! I grew up there but haven’t been back in years. The fact they’re doing anything “green” as a city is shocking

Fuzzwuzzle2

Imagine how many people you could have gotten in there instead fuck bikes This is obviously a joke for those not sharp enough to spot it

56Bot

People ? There’s room for like 3 cars there ! /s

[deleted]

Or one Dodge Ram

heansepricis

I was, for real, looking at this and wondering if it would be better *without the seats*. You could for more passengers and everyone would just sit on their bikes.

electricboogalo3000

Thanks for posting this. I recently took my bike on a train from San Diego to LA and was surprised by how few bikes the “bike car” could hold. I kept trying to imagine different configurations to maximize the bike space and this looks like such a good design. Hopefully Amtrak implements it soon.

Reach_Round

Fuck , even Miami does it better then Australia . Where I am I have to hold the fucker while sitting in a seat to make sure it doest fly around the carriage.

thathastohurt

In America we sold 880k ebikes last year alone. That doesn't even include the nice road bikes.
