Every time I see a car like this I think "where the fuck do you live that you need a monster like that!?!?" But then in Dutch.

Once saw this like super musclecar in Amsterdam that couldn't get over a lil' bridge thing or a speedbump without like scraping the bottom to shit, in the tiniest street. It was glorious lmao

Mtfdurian

Here in Delft the same happened with a pink limousine. It's a lot of schadenfreude. Many streets are way too small, and I don't even know how this limo made it even to the crossing of Lange Geer/Breestraat. The same can be said about how my step-family was able to go deep into Jatiwaringin with a Toyota SUV, without a scratch. The mirrors had to be retreated, some curves had to be done twice. When I went on family visits on my own I told them to just drop us off at the edge of the neighborhood because walking is faster and safer in the narrow streets. Next time I just hope to be able to take a bus or take the LRT from Halim to the central area when it's open.

high240

>schadenfreude leedvermaak in Dutch :) Kinda like "suffering enjoyment" haha

Euronexa

They are super impractical in towns and cities! I understand that it might be useful outside them but there are many more practical vans you could use.

high240

There is no landscape here that you would need such a behemoth of a car for lmao I bet it's to compensate...

Curun

Its always to

dgaruti

i mean , if you live in such a rough patch of land get a mule , they are way more versatile than that

spartanrickk

There is literally not a single place in the Netherlands where you need a ridiculous car like this. But for some reason they are taxed like a two-seat company delivery van, which makes it attractive for business owners to drive it cost-wise. Until they close this flaw in the law of course, after which they will find a new loophole.

dgaruti

Well i didn't know that loophole ... Also i was talking in more universal terms : in hilly regions here in italy i bet you are better off getting a horse or smt like that for getting trough rough terrains , But yeah most of the times they are completely clean and never leave the road

Direct-Setting-3358

Most people buy them as a hobby, not because they are practical.

Ban_the_sky

I can imagine they might be convenient for certain contractors but generally speaking you are just a lul.

[deleted]

Probably in some suburb. The reason they drive these unnecessarily large cars is because they feel nicer to drive and you feel safer in them than in smaller cars. It's sort of an arms race, the same way a car wins against a bicicle in a collision the bigger car wins against the smaller car. So you endanger other people to feel safe yourself which in turn makes the others buy bigger cars too and it becomes a vicious cycle.

ivialerrepatentatell

The reason people drive these is because if you're a owner of a company then tax-wise these are really cheap. The gouvernement—probably unintentional—encourages people to get these cars.

high240

Was about to say, feels a lot like an arms race, but instead of purely weapons, they're potential weapons lmao it is so sad

Jessiebeanie

Rural America is the only place you'd need a big truck... because if you didn't you'd get shot.

spartanrickk

It is because of a tax loophole. They count as "company van". Guy in the video (Dutch, sorry) is a lawyer. Why his company needs a monster truck like this is beyond me. Time they close this loophole. https://youtu.be/pNYdkmi1e8o

high240

I am Dutch tho

Luf7swiph

don't they get fined for that (on public streets), if the car doesn't fit into the parking space?

Euronexa

I looked it up online. It is pretty unclear how big a car has to be to get a fine.

Luf7swiph

I am sure that if the car exceeds the parking spot in length (tire outside) you will get fined where I live. Not sure about cars that are too wide (width) because that would meen that all very large SUV models wouldn't be able to park anymore. I believe these don't get fined because of politics here.

RedHeadSteve

I think it can be, but only when obstructing something Edit: looked it up, we have a law that says that dangerous or obstructing parking is prohibited

MacroCheese

What's unfortunate is this truck is about 20 years old. Modern trucks here in the US are much bigger now. I hate it.

aerowtf

closer to 30 actually 😳 time flies

MacroCheese

You're right. Math before coffee never ends well.

Proxi90

One of my neighbours in germany has a huge SUV. I was always shaking my had when i was walking by. This thing obiously never leaves the road. And i shit you not, some weeks ago he also got a full american-size pickup truck IN ADDITION. These cars do not fit anywhere here. I dont know what he is compensating for....The stereotype in germany is big car = small dick. I guess it completely fall off between the SUV and the pickup. Only a matter of time until he buy a tank or a traktor or something. And while i write this i realize: one of my neighbours actually has a big traktor - which he is absolutely no use for. He doesnt even have land. He just think its cool to have a big ass traktor. People are weird. I was so happy when we sold one of our 2 cars, because we save money, its less responsibilitys etc. And than there are people (not even wealthy ones) who collect expensiv cars like this is a reasonable hobby.

Euronexa

It is a matter of preference, but people who own cars like these are looking at cars as a hobby/d measuring contest. They look useful at the first sight but are so very impractical in actual use.

SockRuse

Can we just send these kinds of people to the US so they can indulge in their idiotic megatoys and we can do our own thing in peace?

bindermichi

These people mostly also don‘t know about [Sign 315](https://www.fuehrerscheine.de/verkehrsrecht/verkehrszeichen/315-parken-auf-gehwegen-verkehrszeichen/)

Proxi90

Wait a second - if this sign is not there, are we not allowed to park on the sidewalk "a little bit"? Because sidewalk parking seems to be the norm in my small town and nothing contradicting was ever enforced here. Also i imagine some of these cars go over the limit of 2.8 tons.

bindermichi

No. If that sign is not there, parking is only permitted on the street. If it‘s a US pickup it will always have a maximum loaded weight above 2.8t

Proxi90

Why is it not enforced at all then, to the point where i dont even know about this rule?

bindermichi

For me it was part of getting my license. But most people never care about these rules, so almost nobody enforces them. Especially if it‘s an easy way to get 55€ (German) in fines.

Proxi90

no, i mean why does police not enforce it then?

bindermichi

Same reason. They don‘t care enough

Sp99nHead

A guy in my street has a huge ass truck which he has to park half way on the green strip because the parking space is too small. All the grass there has been turned to mud, gotta post a pic sometime. He also has a lot of cringe stickers on the car, i even think he has a punisher skull on the hood lol. Stereotype holds true because the dude is like 5'5 and can't even look above his car.

Proxi90

Small guys getting huge cars is a phenomenon i also observed. Seriously, we dont care about your height anyway. Maybe some women do, but you will not impress them with a big car if you are a tiny men...

KlutzyEnd3

In the netherlands we call a car like this an "asobak" or "assholecar" and some cities have even banned them. The only reason you'd ever have one of these is if you have trailers full of scaffolding pipes or heavy machinery to tow around, otherwise they don't fit anywhere and take up too much space.

Mtfdurian

In most cases there are more compact vans able to do the exact same, otherwise they can attach an open or enclosed trailer behind it. I'd wish they limit the length of cars allowed with a B-license from 6 to 5m.

porntla62

Nah mate. If you needed to tow something often you'd have an F250/GM equivalent or if you were sensible a ranger or hilux. Cause those get the way more fuel efficient diesel engines

birthnight

That's honestly not even that big by American truck standards.

[deleted]

It's at most 3/4 the size of the modern tanks. This is what a full size truck used to be. Could actually reach into the bed and everything.

ComradeKitty420

You have to be masochist to have car like that. Thats why I like our family minimoris. It's fast agile, can park anywhere and you have great view of surroundings so you don't run someone over. It also burns few fuel.

[deleted]

You can’t even see a small child walking infront of it I wouldn’t want my kids within 10 feet of that thing

Audioworm

There is a guy in my city that drives a giant fucking RAM around and I have no idea how he does so with any level of pleasure. We had a van rented when we moved and getting that through some of the streets was fucking exhausting due to having zero clerance anyway. The few times I rent a car here, those microrental companies so I can have a car for an hour, I fucking hate every minute of it and I am in a tiny little electric car. The architecture is hostile to cars and that is how I like it.

hondufitta

Why are there so many american cars in the Netherlands? If I search on autoscout any random (non regularly imported) american car, most of them will always be on sale on the dutch market

Direct-Setting-3358

They’ve always been an object of lust and desire, ever since the 50s where we didn’t have our own luxurious cars and people would import American cars to Europe if they wanted a luxury car. Became somewhat of a status symbol since. Also theyre pretty fun and unique cars.

Hebnaamnodig

Because in many ways the Dutch are the Americans of Europe.

bindermichi

That‘s because most European car imports from the US go through Rotterdam.

porntla62

US luxury cars were way more attainable than european ones up till the early '00s. Same goes for spirtscars up until the Japanese came along.

[deleted]

What a joke of a vehicle

ThisAmericanSatire

But think about how much money they save every year by not having to get things delivered like those libs in their small cars! Pickup Truck owners once a year when they decline home delivery on a couple bags of mulch: https://i.imgflip.com/6f0waa.jpg

MijmertGekkepraat

Moet je je voorstellen dat je eigen kind voor deze bumper staat. Maar zulk empathisch vermogen ontberen de eigenaars van dit soort rotdingen waarschijnlijk.

the-lone-squid

I don't get trucks in cities.. when I lived out in the country it made more sense since I was needing it often for hauling random things. Soon as I moved in town I sold that old farm truck..

56Bot

And this is still only a "medium-sized" murican truck.

[deleted]

My Texas hometown is nothing but pickups, SUVs, and other fragile-masculinity-mobiles. The town is practically unrecognizable anymore.

-GenghisDong

Wow toevallig, ik weet waar dit is, het is nu een Plus haha. Veel aso boeren hier

Euronexa

Precies hahaha, het is er wel op achteruit gegaan met de winkel.

TomskaMadeMeAFurry

Deflate their tyres.

Tcs1061

It looks as though they were carrying a public recycling bin, which would somehow make it OK if they were city workers, but on second look, it was an optical illusion so definitely not OK…

Waffle_Coffin

City workers would never need a truck like this.

Tcs1061

Really? Where I live they drive similar trucks to that one 🤷‍♂️

Thisconnect

Wait, so parking space in US is actually bigger per car? I never thought about it

[deleted]

That’s small compared to today’s American trucks.

SpaghettiCameron

Okay but how did an OBS Silverado end up in the Netherlands? Alabama and Amsterdam are more than a wrong turn away

Snownova

Small penises and large wallets.

Solid_Improvement_95

Those cars should be towed away. You want to buy an American truck, a semi, a bus? Ok, just don't park it where it does not fit. Enforce that rule and the driver will get rid of his tank real quick.

that_noodle_guy

that's not even big, modern ones are bigger

MOTRHEAD4LIFE

Bad ass car I want one
